In Ponyville, all is quiet. Not a sound to be heard besides the crickets chirping in the night as Celestia has yet to raise the sun. One pony, however, is awake. Stirring among the silence, a certain purple-coated unicorn had been keeping herself busy throughout the night. Twilight Sparkle didn't dare make a sound, she didn't even breathe. She held her breath as another drop of luminescent concoction dripped into the bigger beaker. The quiet drops were ringing in her mind, the snoring of her closest friend keeping her sanity at bay. You see, Twilight had been slowly losing her mind as more and more work piled on. She hadn't been in Ponyville long, maybe a little over half a year. Despite the friends she made, Princess Celestia continued sending her new work. More friends to make, more lessons to learn, it was becoming too much. Twilight was sure in her magic abilities, and she knew she could do this. She would make a potion so that she didn't have to make friends anymore. She wouldn't need to slave over friendship lessons or sending letters to her princess. She swallowed, her throat dry as the last drop fell from the test tube, the color changing from green to pitch black. The bookworm grimaced, reconsidering her decision now that she was staring face to face with the result of her tireless work. Twilight doubled down. She wouldn't let the physical appearance of her potion deter her from a life of unending knowledge. She knew she'd be forever thankful for her choices, but admittedly, she was scared. With another sigh and shake of her head, the room glowed pink with the light from her horn. The potion levitated, the cool glass meeting Twilight's lips. Her eyes were slammed shut, downing the entirety of it within a few moments. The bottle crashed to the ground, shattering into a thousand shards as she screamed. What was happening? Was this what eternal knowledge felt like? All she knew was it hurt. The pain was beyond physical comprehension. One couldn't express in this language or any other what kind of all consuming pain this was. Her throat seared, and for a moment Twilight fully believed that the potion had burnt straight through her esophagus. She desperately tried to take a breath, begging for anything to relieve her from this hell. Her mouth was on fire. Tears ran down her face as she laid on the ground, rolling around in a feral haze as she clawed at the ground with her hooves. 'Make it stop, please make it stop' she thought to herself, blood now spilling from her muzzle. The acid in the potion had now eaten away at her teeth and tongue, the roof of her mouth bubbling as it deteriorated. Twilight's last thought was of her friends. She thought of each one of them, the regret of her actions was more than she could bear as the pain engulfed her, her shrieks drowned out by a ringing that she couldn't place. Her vision was going white as she vomited time and time again, now not knowing where she was or what was happening, only pain. Spike rustled. After rubbing his eyes from what felt like the worst nightmare of his life, Spike had a growing discomfort in the pit of his stomach. When he finally fought his way out of bed, he pulled out his earplugs and heard nothing. Usually Twilight was up at this time, flipping through books or busily scribbling down new spells or lessons she had to get done. However, he was met with silence as he stared down into the main space of the library. It was dark, he saw nothing. Spike climbed back into bed, feeling more anxious than before. His eyes darted to his friends bed, empty and made, with the corner of the blanket hanging down as if Twilight was about to go to sleep, but something changed her mind. That image lingered in his mind as he wondered. His daydream was cut short, however, as he heard quiet giggling coming from the first floor. He sighed with relief, running downstairs to meet the friend he'd considered family. His entire life he'd spent with her, she was truly his best friend. Who'd been by his side everyday of his life, no matter how much pain he gave her. "Thank goodness you're okay. I was getting worried, you're usually..." Spike stopped in his tracks. The smell of blood attacked him as his vision began to clear. The giggling only got louder as he approached the unicorn. He swallowed hard, begging silently for the smell to be dinner gone wrong. "I-Is something funny? Twilight, why are you giggling like that...?" He blinked again, his vision now clear but his mind was left in utter confusion as it refused to process the scene before him. Glass was everywhere, now stained dark red as blood spattered the walls and floor. Books with pages torn out laid scattered across the room with bite marks along the spine. The glass seemed to be scattered further after the initial break, and unfortunately Spike's theory was confirmed as his eyes finally landed on the purple mare. Her coat was covered in pieces of glass, blood pouring out from what seemed to be endless wounds on her body. Her back was towards the small dragon, the giggling now becoming a horrific shriek as she slowly turned to face her once dear friend. "Please... stay back!" Spike yelled as Twilight turned and launched herself at him. The light of the moon shone through the window of the library. The dragon could now see crystal clear and his brain began to catch up to him. The previous bookworm pony was covered in blood, her hooves both damaged and red. Her mouth was bleeding, the scent from her rotting flesh causing him to blink back tears as she pinned him to the floor. Twilight was laughing hysterically now, an eerie gurgling sound accompanied the shrieks of laughter as Spike stared into her eyes for the last time. He opened his mouth to scream but never got the chance as Twilight's teeth sank into her dragon friend's neck. She tore back mercilessly without an ounce of hesitation, beheading him at once. ⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆ Author's Note wowow!!! my very first published fanfic :,) and to think, horror? but i was too inspired by this story!! so i had to write it up. i really hope you guys enjoyed the prologue!!! it was so so fun to write omg like kinda scary and im not sure if i captured the terror enough but pls tell me what i can do to make it better too!! dont forget to watch the original vids too @sea_bunniezzz on TikTok! love u all so much <3
