Chapter 38: The Spirit of Oblivion Ruinous, Part 2 - The Last Sunset

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna glared at Ruinous as he threw aside the Bearers of Harmony he defeated.

Ruinous: *chuckle*  I KNEW if I kept on taking out the soldiers, I'd eventually get an audience with the generals.

P.Celestia: Can it, Ruinous!

P.Luna: Thy treachery shall be rewarded with thy demise!

Ruinous: *laugh* Let me guess: The two of you are going to try to rescue your subjects by defeating me.  I must say, this kingdom is full of weaklings with huge ideals and tiny capabilities.

P.Celestia: Believe me, WE have far more capability to fulfill our ideals than you think!

The princesses glare at Ruinous, horns blazing and ready to fight!

Ruinous: *sigh*  Such a classic stance..... *gets ready to fight*  Very well.....

The two princesses and Ruinous fly up, each side shielding themselves from the other's attacks.  They clashed multiple times in mid-air, the princesses grunting under the power of Ruinous' attacks.

P.Celestia: Your foul deeds will not go unpunished!

P.Luna: You'll pay for hurting Twilight's friends!

Ruinous: Believe me, I will do worse to the two of *throws a black plasma ball at each princess!* YOU!!!

The balls missed the princesses, but exploded behind them, making them go into a minor corkscrew.  It was enough of a distraction for Ruinous to charge between them, nailing them with a shadow blade from his wings!  The two grunt, their shield a bit lessened as they glare at the Spirit of Oblivion.

P.Celestia: I thought we banished you 2,000 years ago.  How could you have returned so fast?

Ruinous: The answer is simple: It's because I wasn't.

P.Luna: What nonsense art thou speaking?

Ruinous: It's not nonsense.  When we met the last time, it was only the two of you and a couple others against me, the strongest force in the world.  I MUST say, I am impressed at how well you were able to use two Elements of Harmony at once, Princess.  But not even YOU could control the Elements of Light and Hope at the same time powerfully enough to stop ME.

P.Celestia: Princess Shimmer.....

Ruinous: *chuckle*  Easy prey indeed.....  All I had to do to ensure my return was to take out ONE of you, so that I may someday return to take out ALL of you.....

P.Celestia: ......You dark MONSTER!

Ruinous: Why, Princess!  You flatter me!

Ruinous strikes a pose similar to when Applejack's gearing up to use her move!  The princesses gasp as a dark version of Applejack's Apples of Truth attack flies at them, just barely putting their shields up as thick as they can.  Ruinous' attack still hit hard, horrifying both princesses.

P.Luna: NO!

Ruinous: *looks back at the bodies of the other ponies*  Well now.....  This is a rather unexpected bonus.....

Ruinous laughs as he rises up, flying full-speed at the two princesses.  They barely got out of the way of a Sonic Shadowboom attack - a dark version of Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom!

P.Luna: Didst thou..... corrupt the Elements of Harmony?

Ruinous: Precisely.....  And now, with their power, I can now destroy the two of you!

P.Celestia: It won't matter what you did to anypony in a while, Ruinous. WE can still protect our people - from YOU!!!

The two princesses fire a beam from their horns at Ruinous.  The beams twist around each other, making a helix as they flew towards the Spirit of Oblivion.  The attack strikes the dark stallion, knocking him back a bit and making him growl.

Ruinous: You will not WIN!!!

Ruinous counters with a dark version of Rarity's Gemstone Blizzard!  The two attacks collided in the middle, both sides struggling to gain the advantage.  Ruinous growled, slamming his front hooves down and intensifying the attack.  Slowly, the barrage of dark crystals pushed closer to the princesses, Equestria's rulers straining to stop the forward advance.  After a long struggle, Ruinous' attack began impacting the princesses' shield, weakening it bit-by-bit!

P.Luna: SISTER!

P.Celestia: HOLD STRONG!!!

The two slam their front hooves down, firing their helix beam again.  Ruinous snorted and took off, the princesses' attack flying under him, throwing shadow balls at the princesses on the way up.  A shadow ball struck each princess sending them staggering almost into the wall.  They were prime targets for a dark version of Pinkie Pie's Party Time attack, dark blasts emerging from presents thrown at them by Ruinous.  Despite still having their shields up, the princesses were much slower to rise to their hooves this time.

Ruinous: Your friend was once like this.....  Your precious bearer of Hope.....

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna glare up at Ruinous.

P.Celestia: Princess Shimmer would NEVER tolerate us giving up!

P.Luna: We will not betray her memory!

P.Celestia and P.Luna: RAGE OF EQUESTRIA!!!!!

The princesses fire their ultimate attack at Ruinous, a beam of golden sunlight and a beam of silvery moonlight twisting around super-fast!  The super-powerful helix beam flew right at Ruinous, the evil pony countering with a beam of pure darkness.  The two beams collided in the middle again, the princesses giving all their power to pushing back Ruinous' attack.  Little by little, Ruinous' attack started winning the battle.  The princesses gasped in horror as they saw the dark beam come closer and closer until it shattered their shield!

Ruinous: And now..... YOU..... BOTH..... WILL..... EXPIRE!!!!!

Picture the Elements of Harmony's rainbow attack colored black and corrupted and that's Ruinous' next blow against the struggling princesses.  The attack caught both of them simultaneously, slamming them hard.  Both princesses wail out in pain, struggling to stand up even through this.  However, they slump to the ground, landing with a thud, their crowns flying off and rolling to the steps of Ruinous' castle.....  Neither even moved as Ruinous landed near their crowns.

Ruinous: *evil laugh*  *LOUDER evil laugh*  *He rears up and smashes both princesses' crowns with his front hooves!*  FINALLY!!  EQUESTRIA IS MINE!!!!!

The evil laughter of Ruinous reverberates across the sky.  As Princess Celestia was no longer able to control it, the sun fell from the sky like it was made of lead.  Ruinous cackled evilly as he raised a sun with swirling red and black on it, the skies reflective of pure evil.  Canterlot Castle was his next target.  Equestrian guards all over gasp, some making a futile attempt to fire back.  Ruinous growls, firing a huge red-black orb at Canterlot Castle, corrupting it and the guards trying to defend it.  Ruinous flies to what was Princess Celestia's throne room and lands, assuming his position as the new ruler of Equestria and heralding it with another evil laugh.
