//-------------------------------------------------------// A hot day in Maretime Bay -by BronySonicFan- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The one where Izzy and Hitch go to the beach //-------------------------------------------------------// The one where Izzy and Hitch go to the beach Hitch may be an earth pony who has lived in a coast town his entire life. This implied that, by living in a place like this, when the heat hit in summer, he would already be used to such a climate and could continue his work as if nothing had happened... Well no. That's not the case. Hitch hates the hot days that hit Maretime Bay. The horrible sensation of feeling all his fur soaked, added to the unbearable sun that appeared all day long just to provide unbearable heat to the town, clouded his judgment completely. Hot days were nothing new to the Sheriff, but no matter how much time passed, he just couldn't get used to them. To make matters worse, since Sparky had joined his eternally exhausting routine, he felt 10 times more tired. And now that summer had arrived in Maretime Bay, his exhaustion had reached levels he never thought were even achievable. Fortunately, on summer days he could take as much time off as he wanted. It didn't mean that he left aside his job as Sheriff, no; but at least he could take a break and relax as much as possible, since sometimes he couldn't help but get strict and claim some breaking of the law when he walked to "relax." Right now, Hitch was heading towards the Crystal Brighthouse, not only hoping that he could finally take a break and let the air conditioning of the Brighthouse make him feel like he was in heaven, but he also needed a break from Sparky. Although he was always very hyperactive, these hot days he has been worse than usual. Usually, Zipp or Sunny would lend a hoof by taking care of him for a while so he could take a break from his hyperactivity. Pipp, after the first and last time she offered to take care of him, simply refused to do it again, much to Hitch's dismay, although he didn't hate her for it. However, for some reason he didn't understand, no one could keep Sparky still for that long the way Izzy could. It didn't matter what she did: Izzy was the only one capable of exhausting Sparky's energy and making him obey, as well as putting up with everything the little guy did. Hitch found it curious and... attractive... how Izzy could do in a couple of hours what took him and the others a whole day (or sometimes even two, if Sparky didn't sleep all night). It was admirable what Izzy could do, even though Hitch himself sometimes underestimated her. The latter was understandable, since Izzy wasn't the most... let's call it "attentive" in certain aspects, but when it came to searching for crystals, creating useful artifacts, and even talking about unicorn culture in general, no one could surpass her, not even Sunny, who had been studying unicorns for years before meeting Izzy. All in all, Izzy was a one-of-a-kind mare and, at least in the Sheriff's opinion, very pretty. Well, all of her friends were pretty, even Zipp... in her own way... But there was something special with Izzy, something that Hitch found much more striking than with any other mare. Anyone can think that, for Hitch, the prettiest of his friends was Sunny because he had known her for years; Zipp for being the one he fools around with the most and spends time with, even while on duty; and even Pipp for being... well... Pipp. But that was not the case. For Hitch, the prettiest of all was without a doubt the unicorn of the group. Of course, he would never say it out loud, but he also wouldn't dare lie if the question was asked. After all, he's terrible at lying. And what about Izzy? Well, for her, summer is both fun and totally sucks. On the one hand, too much heat meant a day at the beach, pool, a spring, or even a hot tub. But, on the other hand, the heat was unbearable, especially because of how soaked it left her mane, as well as her fur, which disgusted her. However, what she really hated about the heat wasn't that: It was feeling exhausted. Now, many of you will surely think that feeling exhausted on a hot day is normal, and that she shouldn't worry, right? Well, when you're someone hyperactive like Izzy, who needs to do something with her energy, feeling exhausted was a worse punishment than living alone for the rest of her life... ...Well, maybe not on that level, but it was still horrible for her. Stay at home all day doing nothing? She would rather watch a snail race, no matter how long it takes the runners to finish the race. To make this worse, today was not only hotter than normal, but the Brighthouse's air conditioning had broken, which only increased the heat inside the place by 1000%. And you think that's all? Nope, because today, just today, when the heat is much more scorching than hell, Izzy is on her own, since Sunny, Zipp, Pipp and Misty went to Zephyr Heights to attend to other matters with Queen Haven and Alphabittle. So, today she finds herself alone in the Brighthouse, with the air conditioning broken, and suffering from extreme heat that only drives her laziness over her hyperactivity and creativity. I mean, she could go and fix the air conditioning herself, even make it better than before, but Pipp would kill her if she put a hoof on the machine without supervision, and although she wanted to ignore Pipp's comments, her laziness wouldn't allow her to move anyway. What a day to feel hot and lazy at the same time, right? She would rather be doing literally anything else right now, anything, but not be alone in the Brighthouse doing nothing. She could be, as I said before, fixing the air conditioning, or even working on some unicycle project that needed her attention. Or even maybe, she could be taking care of Sparky. She loved taking care of the little baby dragon. It was so fun to watch him run around and use up his energy while he had fun, which every child should do, at least from her point of view. However, Sparky wasn't the only thing that could cheer her up right now, to tell the truth... Just then, the Brighthouse's doorbell rang, which made Izzy's ears perk up, but then, the unicorn mare squealed excitedly like a filly, and she quickly ran out of the room, where she was, to run to the front door. Although her body begged her to stop, or at least slow down a little, Izzy continued moving quickly in the direction of the entrance. When she arrived, she opened the door quickly with a smile, hoping to meet her friends, since she believed that they had returned sooner than they promised. However, she found something much better, as her smile widened. On the other side of the door was the sixth and last of her best friends: Hitch Trailblazer himself, with Sparky sitting on his back. Izzy's eyes lit up, and a slight blush appeared on her cheeks, although her smile remained just as wide. The truth was that Izzy had a certain... fascination with Hitch, for a couple of months. She would get a little nervous, her cheeks would turn red, her heart would pound, and she would feel strange things in her belly when she was with him, as if butterflies were flying inside her. She had talked about those feelings to Sunny, although she didn't mention who was causing her reactions, and what Sunny told her was that she was falling in love with whoever it was that was causing her to feel that way. Of course, Izzy knows little to nothing about love, much less romance, but to be honest, she didn't mind being attracted to Hitch. Yes, he was handsome, and yes, he was strong... However, those superficial qualities weren't what attracted Izzy... it was the stud's honest way of being. At first, when she met him, she thought that he was very strict and upright when it came to following the law, and yes he is, but... He also turns out to be someone who is shy in certain aspects, as well as very helpful, whether he was acting like Sheriff or not. All of this was what Izzy found attractive about the stallion, but of course, she kept it to herself, since not even Hitch seemed to suspect anything about it. "Hitchy!" Izzy greeted the stallion happily, wrapping him in a hug as usual. "Heya, um, Iz..." Hitch greeted back somewhat shyly. It's not that he minded being hugged, but... with Izzy, there was always something strange. He felt butterflies in his stomach every time Izzy was more Izzy than usual. Maybe it was nothing, although he knew that he only said that to deny reality. "Hey, um... Aren't the others home by any chance? I was hoping we could do something together to calm this disgusting heat..." The sheriff explained, once Izzy let him go. At some point, Sparky moved onto Izzy's back, without either pony noticing. "Well... The others went to Zephyr Heights for the day..." The unicorn responded. "I'm alone today, and please don't ask me for anything related to the air conditioning," She added, before looking at both sides and approaching more to Hitch to whisper. "It's broken..." "And you haven't tried to fix it?" Hitch asked, a bit confused. "Ugh, yes! But this heat won't let me!" Izzy complained sadly. "I feel too lazy to move..." Even if Izzy was acting like a filly right now, Hitch still smiled and found her attitude adorable. Suddenly, however, an idea occurred to Hitch. "Hey... since the others will be out... How about you, me, and the little one on your back go to take a break in the sea, eh?" Hitch suggested with a smile. Izzy's eyes lit up again, but her smile returned too, wider than ever, as she nodded non-stop over and over again. "Hitchy, you are a misunderstood genius!" Izzy declared with a big smile. Hitch blushed a little at the compliment, but still smiled at the unicorn. In the end, the three decided to go closer to the sea to be able to face the heat. Hitch and Izzy were sitting on the seashore, while Sparky had fun running out to sea, only for the waves to push him back, causing the baby dragon to laugh as he did the same thing several times. Seeing that it was simple and innocent fun, Hitch miraculously didn't panic, so he let Sparky have fun, but he never stopped looking at him. Well... this was a half lie, because the mare next to him made him look at her constantly on certain occasions. Of course, Izzy noticed when this happened, but Hitch immediately saw Sparky again, although with his cheeks slightly swollen and with a slight blush, but of course, that seemed cute to Izzy. "So, Sheriff. What's up on your life? Any adventures lately?" The unicorn asked after a while, to which Hitch smiled at the mare. "Doing the duty of a sheriff, as I always do," The stallion replied proudly. "Oh yeah? Like what, Mr. Trailblazer? What kind of sheriff duties did you do?" The tone of her voice, the nickname... caused an awakening in him. His tail swung to the side, and the stallion fought the butterflies in his stomach. Was this flirting? It could not be anything else... Hitch knew he liked Izzy, but that was it. He didn't give much thought or thought to it. He was a sheriff with important duties and also a father... and probably also a hero in Equestria. Hitch could only respond with a cheeky laugh and scratching the back of his neck. "Well... Posey called me today to answer... Something about an infestation of creatures in her garden." "Oh?" Izzy blurted out, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you were a sheriff, Hitch. Not animal control." "Can animal control have a pony that talks to animals? I don't think so," Hitch responded as he got closer to her, sticking his tongue out at her. Now that they were so close, some tension was rising between them. "And you took out the creatures?" "Of course. Have I told you I'm good at my job?" He smiled proudly and showed off his badge. "Ha!" Izzy scoffed, rolling her eyes. "You don't even need to tell me, I can see it through that big ego of yours!" After saying that, Izzy tried to take his badge, just for fun. "Hey!" Hitch snapped, clicking his tongue a couple of times. "Get away from my badge! I know how much unicorns like sparkly!" Both ponies started laughing together. The stallion took the time to observe the mare next to him. His position remained: She was the most beautiful of his friends. He continued to laugh and looked down, before pulling something out of his sheriff's belt. "By the way... Posey thanked me by giving me these," He gave Izzy a small bouquet of purple petunias, and Izzy held them up with a gasp. "They are beautiful!" The unicorn exclaimed happily. "I'm glad Posey has changed her ways and is getting so good at gardening," She added with a smile, extending the bouquet back to Hitch. "No, keep them. I really don't know what to do with them." In a way, he lied. Giving these flowers to Izzy was the reason he picked them in the first place. But, you know... The cool sheriff has to pretend to be cool to try to woo a very adorable unicorn who probably didn't even feel the same way. Crushes are so silly, right? Izzy, however, was dazed, with her mouth half open, she stumbled over her words. Why was it so different when he gave her a bouquet of flowers instead of a fan? "B-But they're yours!" She pointed out. "What's wrong, Miss Moonbow? Are you hesitating? I'll probably change my mind and take them from you––" "NO. I ACCEPTED YOUR GIFT AND I LOVE IT!" She responded quickly, hugging the flowers tightly, causing the stallion to giggle. Izzy took this opportunity and smelled the flowers, capturing the incredible aroma they had. "They're incredible... thank you, Hitch," Said the unicorn with a huge smile, and a slight blush. "I knew you would like them." Izzy looked into his honey eyes with a cute, tender smile, making Hitch's heart skip a beat. The more comfortable they were with each other, the closer their tails got as well. Hitch blushed partially and coughed, trying to get rid of the feeling. "You're welcome," He continued coughing. And after that, Izzy let out a giggle, before taking one of the petunias and placing it on her ear, then carefully placing the rest to the side, using her magic. As she did this, Hitch stared at her again, only now he was gawked at the image of her. For some reason, he felt hypnotized by seeing Izzy with the petunia over her ear, which not only matched well with her mane and her fur, but also matched well with her eyes. His cheeks turned crimson red again, but at no time did Hitch stopped looking at her, not even when Izzy finally noticed the stud staring at her, as if she were the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. Well, that was the case, let's not fool ourselves. "Hitch..." Izzy called out, now also somewhat enthralled with the stallion. "Hmm?" Izzy slowly approached Hitch. Despite being somewhat tall, she was still shorter than the stallion, so she almost had to stand on tiptoe to approach him... And then, she removed his badge with a hoof, before running a few meters away from the stallion. "Catch me if you can, Hitchy!" It took Hitch a while to realize what happened before he shook his head and smiled. The first thing he did, instinctively, was pick up Sparky and put him on his back, before looking at Izzy with a confident smile. "Stop in the name of the law, thief!" The sheriff shouted, before starting to chase the unicorn. Izzy squealed and ran away as she laughed, now levitating Hitch's badge with her magic and taunting the stallion as she ran. At some point, she tripped on the sand and fell backwards to the ground, while Hitch's plate landed right in her face. Izzy shook her head for a moment, before her face was covered by Hitch's, who looked at the mare beneath her with a mocking smile, before removing the badge from her face and putting it back in his belt. "Well, miss, it seems that you tried to commit a crime against the highest authority of this town. What do you have to say in your defense?" However, even though Izzy turned bright red at the Sheriff's appearance and comment, she smirked anyway. She then used her magic to levitate herself and the baby dragon, which confused Hitch... at least until a wave soaked him entirely and caused him to fall on his back. The stallion coughed water and looked boredly at the mare, who landed and looked smugly at the sheriff. "I say you look handsome soaked, Hitch~" After saying this, Izzy kissed Hitch's nose playfully and with a slight blush, before making Sparky land on her back, and then she began a skipping trot back to the Brighthouse. However, Hitch sat in the sand, redder than a tomato, while he looked at Izzy dumbfounded, because he didn't see her action of kissing his nose coming. And above that, his face turned redder as he watched Izzy wag her tail as she walked towards the Brighthouse. Still, the Sheriff smiled mischievously, and then stood up to quickly trot over to Izzy and his dragon child. Once in the Brighthouse, both Hitch and Izzy repaired the air conditioning, now that they had finally cooled down a bit. However, repairing the machine was turning out to be a bit of a complicated job, especially when both of them couldn't stop looking at each other and making eyes at each other. They left Sparky with his toys in the living room so he wouldn't interfere with the air conditioning repair, although the truth was that the two also wanted to be alone for a while. Although they blushed as they stared at each other for a moment, they also smiled, before resuming their work with the air conditioning. After 2 hours, they finished repairing the air conditioner, and Izzy used her magic to levitate the machine back into place. As she did so, Hitch stood next to her, and smiled when he saw that the unicorn left the air conditioner perfectly placed in its place, while Izzy looked at him with a tender smile. "Hitchy..." The mare called out. However, before Hitch could turn to look at her, he felt her caress his head gently on her chest, causing the stallion to blush immensely, as well as causing his heart to skip a beat. Izzy, however, was smiling placidly as she felt Hitch's soft, beefy chest, also blushing a little, but completely happy to be doing what she was doing. "Thanks for the help with the air... And for inviting me to go to the beach..." Hitch's blush deepened a little, and his heart beat a little faster, but he still smiled back, so he laid his head on Izzy's and sighed happily. "I-I... Um... I-It was a pleasure, Iz..." Soon, however, they were both hit by a pair of pillows, causing their eyes to widen. Turning around, they found Sparky surrounded by several pillows, while he was laughing playfully after seeing Izzy and Hitch's reactions, with the latter frowning. "Sparky... That wasn't––" However, the Sheriff couldn't continue his scolding to the baby dragon, because he was suddenly hit in the face by a pillow. However, this one was surrounded with magic, since it was Izzy who hit Hitch this time. The stallion was surprised and confused at first, but seeing Izzy laughing mockingly as she levitated her pillow, Hitch smiled defiantly. He then threw the other pillow at Izzy's face, causing the unicorn to mistakenly let go of his pillow, which fell to the floor. However, the mare laughed anyway, levitating her pillow again and throwing it towards Hitch again, although the stallion dodged it this time. Then, the two ponies and the baby dragon started a pillow fight throughout the Brighthouse's living room, causing an immense mess everywhere, but the truth was that none of them cared. In the end, the three of them ended up lying on the floor, with Sparky in the middle of Hitch and Izzy, while the three of them laughed after their intense pillow fight. However, while Hitch looked tenderly at Sparky as he snuggled into the stallion's chest, Izzy looked at the sheriff and smiled. Then, she leaned down and gently kissed the stallion on his cheek with a blush, causing Hitch's eyes to widen, while he also blushed at the unicorn's action. However, as soon as she reached out and nuzzled her nose lovingly with his, any sign of protest or surprise left his body, and Hitch smiled contentedly, pulling both Sparky closer to his chest and Izzy closer to his face. Then, the 3 of them fell asleep, curled up and clinging like a family after a long, fun day. Soon, a message from Sunny arrived on Izzy's phone, stating that she and the rest were going to be gone a day more than they expected, and that they wouldn't be back until the next day. However, Izzy was too busy getting comfortable in Hitch's beefy hooves to worry about her cell phone notifications. After all, it wasn't just a hot day in Maretime Bay like any other: Technically she went on a date with her crush, she flirted and had fun with him, she got some beautiful petunias as a gift, and now she was sleeping peacefully next to him and the baby dragon that she was starting to see as her son. No doubt, it was a spectacular day... THE END Author's Note As I said: Izzy and Hitch as a couple are underrated, so I wanna try and change that. Constructive criticism is appreciated.
