After returning to Ponyville, Rainbow Dash sighed blissfully while sharing a group hug with her best friends. Her, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy and Applejack had joined in a circle and put their hooves on the left shoulder of the adjourning pony. They grinned concomitantly at each other. Silence fell over the best friends for a moment before Rainbow broke the reticence.

“I was absolutely surprised that you all wanted to come visit me at the Wonderbolt Academy. Who’s idea was that?”

“Pinkie’s.” Twilight supplied. “She lamented every day while you were gone, Rainbow. Pinkie missed you deeply.”

Rainbow and Pinkie Pie held unbridled eye contact. The speedster felt deeply touched that one of her best friends had such an extreme longing.

“It’s true.” Applejack added. “She kep’ checkin’ the mailbox ev’ry thirty seconds aft’r yer letter, Rainbow. That pony was stubborn as a mule an’ didn’ budge.”

Pinkie giggled and affirmed the anecdote with a nod. The ebullient, jaunty pony bounced in place and spoke in a singsong voice.

“I stayed put so I could be the first to read any other letters.”

The high-spirited pink mare became despondent as she regarded Dash sadly.

“But no others arrived.”

Rainbow hastily explained that she was caught up in the academic activities and didn’t intentionally ignore any of them. The last thing she wanted was for her friends to feel undeserving of an updated letter.

“We know, darling.” Rarity added while smiling joyfully at the speedster.

“So I had the bestest idea ever, Dashie! I gathered the girls and we took a fun trip to come visit and deliver a care package!”

Rainbow smiled at the touching gesture and eccentric nature of the pink party pony before replying.

“Instead of the twister, I wish I was there to welcome you.”

The six ponies had a collective giggle at Rainbow’s words. The reminder of the sudden cyclone was risible. Fluttershy stepped forwards and stuck a squished cardboard box into Rainbow’s hooves.

“Open it, Rainbow. It’s from all of us.”

Rainbow stared at Fluttershy momentarily before her eyes flickered to the box. The unknown possibility of the contents made her excited. Dash slowly peeled the masking tape from the top of the box. It stuck determinedly to her hoof. Despite furiously shaking her appendage, the speedster couldn’t dislodge the sticky object.

Chortling, Twilight cast a disappearing spell on the tape and it vanished. Rainbow shot her a grateful look. In response, Twilight gave a tacit nod.

With the tape removed, Rainbow propped the box open and peered inside. The item on top was a letter that was folded neatly and placed in the center. Rainbow took the note carefully in her hooves. Unfurling the creases, she began to read.

Dear Rainbow Dash,

We’re all so proud of you for being accepted into the Wonderbolts Academy. We’ve known you for nearly four years and your repeated desire to become a Wonderbolt has been ingrained in our memories. Seeing you get closer to that dream has filled us with pride, joy, adoration and desire. While your earnest boasting occasionally gets irritating, we know you’ve got the skills and bravado to back up your claims. Your constant ostentatious displays of derring-do is something we’re all proud of. Despite our desultory frustrations at your showboating demeanor, we value who you are and we’re honored to have such a confident, loyal, speedy and brazen pony as our best friend. Continue chasing your dream, Rainbow Dash. You may be the fastest pegasus in Equestria, but we’re running directly behind and supporting you each hoofstep of the way. Keep being awesome!

Your best friends,
Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack and Rarity

Rainbow read the note slowly. Tears welled in her eyelids by the end of the letter. She blinked them away and gazed lovingly at each of her best friends. Her heart swelled with appreciation for the compassionate gesture.

“Thank you, girls. I know I seldom show emotion like this and hate being sappy, but that note was genuinely heartwarming. I appreciate the support and feel like the luckiest pegasus in the world to call you five my best friends.”

The six element bearers gave another collective group hug. Squeals of happiness and affable giggles were uttered. The tenderness and fondness between them was palpable. Silence hung over the group for several seconds before Rarity spoke.

“There’s more, darling.”

Grinning excitedly, Rainbow turned her attention back to the care package. A square, wooden item was laying inert at the bottom of the box. The inside perimeter of the wooden object was black and had an elongated piece sticking out of it. Curious, Rainbow grabbed it and pulled it to her head to get a closer look.

“What is this?”

Twilight chuckled at the confusion.

“Turn it around, Rainbow Dash.”

Complying, Rainbow saw that it was a photograph of herself and her five best friends. All six were grinning happily while posing with each other. Rainbow and Rarity were loafing. Pinkie and Applejack had a hoof on Rainbow’s shoulders while Fluttershy and Twilight had a hoof on Rarity’s shoulders. Rainbow and Rarity were nuzzling. All friends were in close proximity to each other.

Rainbow clutched the photo tightly and brought it to her chest. The speedster felt the eyes of the other five on her. She closed her own eyes for a fleeting moment before opening them gently and beaming happily.

“You’re all honestly the best friends a pony could ask for. I wouldn’t be who I am today without your influences. Screw my pride. Girls, I love you all.”

The sudden sentimental admission made Twilight and Applejack chortle. Pinkie beamed while Fluttershy blushed. Rarity squeed.

“We love you too, Dashie.” Fluttershy said.

“Sure do, Dash.” Twilight stated. “Even if we sometimes quarrel, we’ll forever love and regard you as a best friend.”

Pinkie, Rarity and Applejack supplied their own endearing thoughts and Rainbow gratefully thanked them all.

“So, Dashie, what’re you gonna do with your three day break, huh? Is it time to throw you a welcome home party?” Pinkie asked.

“Or, we could head to the spa, darling. All that exercise and vigorous work schedule must have your muscles aching. The spa works wonders, darling.” Rarity supplied.

“It’s nearly two in the afternoon, Rainbow. I could go for a late lunch if you're hungry?” Fluttershy piped.

“Ah’ve got a huge tankard with yer name onnit, sugarcube.” Applejack boasted.

“Perhaps a relaxing re-read of Daring Do and the Marked Thief of Marapore?" Twilight suggested.

Each of Rainbow’s friends attempted to goad her into one-on-one time. Rainbow thanked each for their proposals but shook her head.

“Aside from Twilight’s, I did suggest those activities in my letter. Though, now that I’ve got a small break from my vigorous training regime, I’d love to just enjoy an afternoon snooze without Spitfire screaming in my ear that I’m ‘indolent.’ Captain Spitfire pushes us to the threshold of exhaustion. We’re ponies and need to rest.”

The other five collectively nodded in understanding knowing Rainbow’s desire carried validity.

Twilight was the first to speak.

“Fair, Rainbow. We’re certainly not mad. Though, we’d love to spend individual time with you before you return to the academy on Friday.”

“Yeah!” Pinkie added. “Especially with the party. I can’t throw a welcome back party within the next three days and then host another after your month in the academy is over!”

Pinkie gasped excitedly. She bore a large grin and shifted her eyes in turn to each of her best friends.

“Unless….”

Applejack chuckled at Pinkie’s exuberance before glancing at the speedy cerulean pegasus.

“Ah don’ mind. ‘Sides, ya know yer always welcome ‘round mah farm, Dash.”

Rarity was the next to offer her understanding.

“Aloe and Lotus run the spa daily, darling. It’s quite alright if we go anytime.”

Fluttershy put a comforting hoof on Rainbow’s shoulder and smiled affably at her friend.

“Get some much needed rest, Rainbow Dash. We know where to find you before Friday.”

The speedster smiled warmly at each of her friends in turn. Gazing at their smiling faces caused the boastful pegasus to grin widely.

“Thanks, girls. I’m so lucky to have wonderful friends like you. Before I return to the academy, I will do each of those activities. It’s a promise.”

The five friends formed a line. Rainbow hugged each of them goodbye before regarding them collectively with a wave. All fellow element bearers reciprocated the waving gesture and watched Rainbow soar into the sky.

Scootaloo was happily chatting to her best friends, Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle during recess that Friday. The vivacious orange pegasus had eagerly been counting the days until Rainbow’s tenure at the academy ended.

“Three more days! Rainbow will be back in Ponyville Monday and I’m super excited!” Scootaloo said while jumping buoyantly.

Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle laughed at their friend’s effervescence. Each felt glad to see Scootaloo in high-spirits again. She had been crestfallen for the first two weeks and it had dampened their time together. Now, Scootaloo had chipperness again and the other two fillies were relieved.

“Ya know, Scoots. Ev’r since ya’ll join’d Applejack, Sweetie Belle, Rarity an’ Ah on that campin’ trip, Dash an’ ya seem real inseparable.”

“Yeah!” Sweetie Belle agreed. “I remember you had hoped that Rainbow would take you under her wing and be like your big sister. Seems your wish came true!”

Scootaloo smirked gleefully. Sweetie’s assertion was only half right.

“Well, something like that! Yeah! Rainbow and I have a great bond that I’m thankful for. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!”

Apple Bloom smiled at her friend’s animated demeanor. It was a relief to know Scootaloo was blithesome again.

“Putting the topic of Rainbow Dash on hold.” Sweetie Belle stated. “We need to plan activities to do this weekend to get our cutie marks.”

“Ooh! How ‘bout somethin’ simple like crochetin’, puzzle solvin’ or makin’ lemonade?”

“Those are lame ideas, Apple Bloom. Our cutie marks would be for adventurous stuff like canyoning, spelunking, or cannoneering.”

“Those sound dangerous, Scootaloo. Adventurous, yes, but dangerous.”

“Aww, don’t act like a scaredy pony, Sweetie Belle. What’s life without a bit of danger, right?”

Apple Bloom quickly interposed herself between her two best friends.

“Well, Ah’ll try anythin’ once, ‘specially iffin Ah’ll get mah cutie mark.”

“Really, Apple Bloom? You’d do spelunking? The only caves I know are in the Everfree Forest and I am not going back to that creepy place. There’s sure to be creatures that live in those caves.”

Scootaloo blew a discordant raspberry in response to the unicorn filly. The orange pegasus itched her snout before inquiring what Sweetie Belle had cerebrated.

“Fine, Sweetie Belle. What would you suggest?”

“Something in the middle. Adventurous, but not outright dangerous. Things like snorkeling, mountain climbing, or acrobatics.”

Scootaloo rubbed her chin while mulling those possibilities. Like Apple Bloom, she’d attempt anything once to get a cutie mark.

I suppose an acrobatic cutie mark would be pretty cool.

The young pegasus nodded in agreement. She looked between them and grinned emphatically. There was crusading to do, and Scootaloo knew, with her friends by her side, they’d support each other’s endeavors and get their cutie marks.

“Let’s meet at the clubhouse later. We’ve got all weekend for crusading activities.”

“Yeah! Ah’ve got some chores ‘round the farm ta do lat’r. Bu’ aft’r that, Ah’m free fer explorin’ an’ crusadin’.

“Same for me. Rarity isn’t taking me shopping to Manehattan for another few weeks. Crusading time this weekend!”

“Awesome! School ends at three. How about we meet at five o’ clock?”

“Yeah! I’ll be there, Scootaloo.”

“Plenty o’ time b’fo supp’r. Ah’ll see ya’ll at five!”

The recess bell rang and the three fillies joined their schoolmates as their class headed back inside the facility for more learning.

Hours later, after a lengthy nap, Rainbow Dash flew to the town square. The speedster stared absentmindedly at the throngs of ponies who bustled nearby. It had been nearly a month since she left her hometown and she deeply missed the scenery.

She observed the familiar sights. Ponies were selling produce, food, crafts, knickknacks and other ilk. The town hall was teeming with the mayor’s entourage and other political ponies. Multitudes of townsponies were ambling or meandering through Ponyville; some having amiable chats.

Dash turned her head to observe the happenings occurring by the schoolhouse. A large clock plastered below the roof alerted the cerulean pegasus that it was five minutes of three. Rainbow pondered what her fillyfriend had been up to for nearly four weeks. Her heart panged as she thought about Scootaloo.

Squirt. I’ve missed you dearly.

Lyra and Bon-Bon were walking side-by-side. The two gazed at Rainbow Dash and concurrently waved.

Rainbow reciprocated with a smile before glancing back to the clock. It was now three p.m.

The doors of the schoolhouse burst open and energetic colts and fillies ran excitedly out of the facility. Dash turned her attention to the vivacious commotion. She recognized Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle as they were the siblings of two of her best friends. Then, with her heart thumping, Rainbow noticed Scootaloo exit the school and gallop off. The orange pegasus was traveling in the opposite direction of the speedster.

Time to give that filly a nice surprise.

Kicking off the ground, Rainbow hastily took to the skies and followed Scootaloo. Trailing behind, she grinned while watching the filly canter. Curious of the young pegasus’s destination, Dash kept her distance. Every time Scootaloo turned down a road or zipped through an alley, Rainbow mimicked the movement. After a few moments, Scootaloo stopped outside a licorice shop. The filly eagerly entered the establishment.

Playfully shaking her head at the younger pony’s sweet tooth, Rainbow waited for Scootaloo to emerge. Thirty seconds later, she flew to a nimbus cloud and slumped to a supine position. She remained inert for several moments before she heard the door open and the sound of her fillyfriend bidding adieu to the shopkeeper.

About time!

Rainbow Dash sat up and watched Scootaloo shove two sticks of licorice in her muzzle. The filly chewed happily and squealed as the strawberry flavor brought life to her taste buds. Chuckling, Rainbow silently flew to the ground and stood behind the young filly.

“Y’know, with your fondness for sweets, I hope you’ve been brushing thrice daily, Squirt.”

Scootaloo immediately spat the pieces of the candy on the ground. Her ears twitched as she recognized the familiar voice of her marefriend. Slowly, she turned to face her. It was as Scootaloo expected. Rainbow Dash was standing only feet away and grinning at her.

“R-Rainbow Dash?”

The cocky pegasus stifled a snicker at her fillyfriend’s behavior. She understood why her lover was surprised to see her. In response to the query, she puffed her chest and coolly flipped her hair.

“Duh, kid. I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m back earlier than I told you, huh?’

“Uh-huh! Don’t tell me they kicked you out?”

Rainbow put a cerulean hoof over her chest in faux pique. She blew upwards and felt her coiffure bristle from the airflow.

“No way! Course not! I’ve been stellar and awesome at the academy, kid. Captain Spitfire gave me a small break. So I’m here in Ponyville this weekend.”

Hearing that, Scootaloo’s eyes widened. She shot her marefriend a coquettish and sultry look of yearning desire.

“You. Me. High cloud. Alone. Now.”

Rainbow grinned at the seductive tone of her lover. She nodded eagerly to Scootaloo and turned around to let the filly straddle her back. Once the orange pegasus was carefully supported, the speedster became airborne. Dash found a cirrocumulus cloud and landed gently on it.

Scootaloo detached her hooves from Rainbow’s nape and jumped down. The white cloud was soft, spongelike, and comfy. She grinned as her hooves stepped over the tufts.

Rainbow looked in all directions of the vicinity to affirm they were in solitude. She relayed this to her lover and the orange filly happily smirked at the news.

“I missed you, Squirt.”

“I missed you more, Rainbow! Let me show you how much!”

Understanding the implication, but wanting to play along, Rainbow feigned innocence. She put a hoof to her chin and tapped it, gesticulating a deep pensive demeanor.

“Huh? You want to show me, babe?”

“Yeah! Lay on your back and get your beautiful self comfortable, Dash. Then I can demonstrate my words.”

Rainbow giggled to herself as she obeyed her fillyfriend. Her back made contact with the soft spongy cloud and Rainbow sighed comfortingly. She stared up at her lover and beamed at the filly.

“There! All do-”

Rainbow was cut off. Scootaloo had straddled her and was lying on the speedster’s chest and belly. With a gentle touch, Scootaloo held her hoof under Rainbow’s chin while lowering her head. Their hearts thumped in unison as their lips puckered eagerly to meet the other’s own.

The kiss that followed was nearly on par with the first between the lovers. It was evident that absence had made their hearts grow fonder. Scootaloo and Rainbow lovingly sighed from the romantic display as they looked at each other. Mare and filly were unequivocally in love with the other.

With a playful bat of her eyelashes, Scootaloo flirted in a kittenish and amorous manner. In addition to the display, she spoke to her lover.

“Y’know, I don’t think I’ve fully shown you how deeply you’ve been missed, babe.”

“What are you waiting for, Squirt? An invitation? Lean down and kiss your girl, babe.”

Scootaloo’s heart did somersaults at Rainbow’s eager command .The filly knew Rainbow was showing amatory passion and wasn’t making demands in a dominating way.

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t forget who’s in charge though, pet.”

Rainbow blushed deeply while wrapping her hooves around Scootaloo’s neck. She loved when the filly displayed dominance. Knowing the younger pony was the top in the relationship caused unbridled pleasure. Dash gazed up longingly at her lover and stared deeply into her vibrant purple irises.

“I never forgot, Mistress Scootaloo.”

“Good girl, Dashie.”

Scootaloo leaned down again and brushed the speedster’s lips with her own. The filly blushed crimson from the display. Being separated from her lover for almost a month was incredibly taxing.

Rainbow squealed excitedly after her owner kissed her. The speedster’s gaze continued to focus on her fillyfriend. Dash blushed with more fervor as she realized Scootaloo had heard the meek squeal.

“Cute and precious. Just can’t help yourself around me, can you, pet?”

Dash bit her lower lip to stifle a moan while shaking her head horizontally. Scootaloo knew how to push her buttons and the filly wasted no time getting right back into the kinky talk and excitement.

The younger orange pegasus laughed at the display and bent down a third time. Instead of a lip smooch, the vivacious filly canoodled her lover on the cheek.

“We’re decently isolated up here, but it’s plausible that a pony could discover us. Come to the clubhouse in the eastern secluded part of Sweet Apple Acres.”

The invitation to join her fillyfriend for a secluded escapade was an easy decision. Falling victim to her salacious desires, she earnestly nodded at the request. Rainbow craned her head upwards and kissed the filly’s snout.

Scootaloo grinned at the display and spoke to her girlfriend.

“You’re in for some fun, Rainbow Dash. Let’s go.”

Rainbow released her hooves from around Scootaloo’s neck. A second later, the young pegasus became erect. Dash stood a moment later and crouched to allow Scootaloo access to her neck. The filly tightly secured her hooves around the speedster’s nape and Rainbow accelerated quickly in the direction of Sweet Apple Acres.

The flight was mostly uneventful. They reaffirmed how deeply they missed the other. Hints of prurient exploits were tossed around by both lovers. Scootaloo told Rainbow how school was going, while Dash updated her fillyfriend about her progress at the academy. Hearing about Lightning Dust made Scootaloo grit her teeth.

“That bitch. Nopony talks to my marefriend like that.”

Rainbow was taken aback by Scootaloo’s blunt protectiveness and unfiltered language. It was the first time she had heard the filly swear. She zoomed around a cloud and asked Scootaloo why she was so irritated.

“She nearly made you give up your dream, Dashie. I don’t like her.”

The kaleidoscopic-maned pegasus chortled at her lover’s terse opinion. She appreciated the protection, though she assured the filly there was no need to get her feathers ruffled.

“I hated her too, Squirt. But, under the scrutiny and leadership of Captain Spitfire, I know Lightning Dust will be a great flier and future Wonderbolt. She’s talented and skillful, though she lacks discipline.”

Scootaloo was laconic for several moments before she broke the silence that lingered. As she spoke, she tightened her grip.

“So Lightning Dust won’t cause you any more problems, Dashie?”

“Nah. Spitfire basically told her that she’s on thin ice. Dust won’t push the envelope with Spitfire or cause a scene when I return. Besides, I’m sure she’s grateful that I defended her when Spitfire was about to disbar her from The Wonderbolts.”

“Well, you seem confident, Rainbow. I don’t doubt your words.”

They reached the clubhouse and Dash perched on the wooden balcony. Scootaloo dismounted from her marefriend and wrapped her fetlock around the doorknob. She grinned playfully at her lover. After Scootaloo made the entryway ajar, both ponies gleefully entered. The door shut softly behind them.

Immediately, the two lovers embraced each other again. Rainbow’s foreleg wrapped around Scootaloo’s nape and pulled her lover closer. Scootaloo stood on her tiphooves to raise her height and allow easier access to her marefriend. Kisses were thrown in rapid succession. Lips smacked. Moans filled the clubhouse. Rainbow and Scootaloo were ardently pecking wherever their lips met. Chins, cheeks, foreheads, lips, necks, and more were amorously kissed by the pair of lovers.

“I’ve missed you so much, Rainbow Dash.”

“I’ve missed you lots, Scoots. Thought about you everyday, babe.”

The vivacious filly blushed deeply at the thought. She fully believed her marefriend and knew the statement was true. Scootaloo’s cheeks were a deep tinge of pink and she nervously shuffled her hooves.

“So did I, babe. It’s great to see you. Lucky for me that it’s three days earlier than expected. I’m certainly not complaining.”

Scootaloo placed a soft orange hoof on Rainbow’s cheek and held it steady while leaning her head up and kissing Dash’s lips. The kiss was passionate, sweet, gentle, soft, amorous, and quick.

Rainbow’s knees buckled from the sensation and she released a moan from her muzzle. The sound permeated the younger pony’s ears and she grinned slyly at her lover.

“I see you still moan when your Mistress kisses you, pet.”

A small squeal escaped the speedster. She loved how easily she became putty in Scootaloo’s hooves. The prismatic-maned pegasus nodded affirmatively. Scootaloo knew what to say to make the cocky weathermare hot and bothered.

You’re such a bad filly, Squirt. I love it.

Scootaloo winked at Rainbow Dash. The younger pony knew the effect she had on her marefriend and enjoyed constantly reminding her lover who was in charge. Rainbow Dash was still the filly’s icon and hero, but the orange pegasus felt a rush of excitement when she could dominate and demean her.

“I can’t help it, Mistress. You cause a primal desire to awaken within me. Nopony else has the same effect on me that you do.”

The filly chuckled victoriously and leaned forwards. The action caused Rainbow to remove her hoof from around Scootaloo’s neck. Standing erect, Scoots quickly tackled her lover to the floor. Both were in the same position that they enjoyed on the cloud. Scootaloo lay on Rainbow’s chest and passionately pressed her lips to those of her lover.

In the midst of their deep, passionate, french kissing, neither pony heard the distinct sound of the clubhouse door opening. Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash were engaged in a contest of deep snogging and both were attempting to fight with their tongues for control of the other’s mouth.

A squeaky, high-pitched voice spoke.

“What is going on?”

Another voice, with a southern drawl, was also heard.

“Scoots? Rainbow? Why ya’ll kissin’?”

Rainbow’s eyes immediately went wide as she realized they had been discovered. Acting quickly, she attempted to save face by gently pushing Scootaloo away. However, the secret was out. The speedster waved affably at the two other crusaders and tried to dodge the question.

“Well, since your friends are here, Scootaloo, I should be off. There’s lots of stuff to get done.”

Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle immediately blocked the door and shook their heads.

“Nuh-uh. Yer not jus’ gonna leave, Rainbow.”

“Yeah!” Sweetie Belle said. “Apple Bloom and I want to know what’s going on. We just saw you both kissing.”

Rainbow swallowed the lump in her throat and shared a gaze with Scootaloo. There was no wiggling out of this one. The fillies had caught the lovers dead in the act and were wanting an explanation.

“Oh, shit.” Rainbow said.

Rainbow took a breath and prepared to explain, but Scootaloo stopped her.

“It’s alright, Dashie. I’ll elucidate.”
