In his home Theodore Roosevelt Jr is reading the newspaper as he relaxed from another campaign in war. The long list of titles and jobs he held, now has Russian General on it as well as mercenary general, seeing how he did earn a reward from the campaign. He wasn’t on the front line like he would had like but with his tactics and experience in leadership he had the Klabautermanns of Russia running like a well oiled machine.

Besides the American Klabautermanns using Washington’s sword, he also personally was rewarded for a job well done with a chest of gold coins. The coins are Roman aureus coins that he has already split among his family, keeping some for his personal collection. The American soldiers that were with him, were also paid in Roman coinage. Some of the black soldiers even stayed in Russia to serve under the new empress Sunset. And with how well they were treated while serving the empress, they decided to stay where they are treated well.

From what he’s hearing Sunset is doing her best in attracting people with skills and knowledge that her country needs to improve. Hiring teachers for the new schools she’s having built, libraries, hospitals and other public services that her country badly needs. Having her Klabautermanns build the infrastructure her country needs and hiring local workers for smaller building projects, while having farming machines imported to feed her people.

The new royal scientist Tesla with the full backing of Sunset, has been building his towers, that work in providing power and communication to the entire country. Which caused the naysayers who said that his inventions would never work lose credibility. Seeing how word got out that Sunset wanted Tesla for those very inventions that the people in business did what they could to stop as it would cost them money.

He then thought to the American Klabautermanns who are still refusing to serve a country that doesn’t see many of them as equals because of them being women and their race. Resulting in the entire nation’s navy force gone as all the warships and transports are gone, till civil rights and equal rights become law of the land. The racist politicians and those in power are fighting tooth and nail to stop any equal rights and refuse any kind of deals. (1)

The Klabautermanns in turn are supporting the people for equal rights for women and non whites. With the police scared to try to break up any protests as Klabautermanns frequently disguised themselves in the crowd. Resulting in warships appearing and hordes of copy Klabautermanns overrunning the place. Entire white mobs have been broken and beaten by the Klabautermanns, with the people apart of the mobs being crippled for life, with homes and businesses being destroyed.

The Klabautermann said that they’re just playing by the same rules as the whites have been doing to non whites. Pay evil unto evil is their motto, they’re not going to treat the racists any better than they treat others. They do avoid killing but they do rip the arms off of people so that they can never use their arms to harm others ever again. Forgiveness is only for those who earn it and not people who will never feel guilt for what they have done.

The Klabautermanns made it clear that they’re not humans and while some are white the white warships aren’t going to be turning on their sister ships. That includes the Confederate warships who are a mix of whites and non whites. They do not sugar coat what they do. They are murderers, killers, and sinners, and in no way, shape, or form are they the good guys, even if what they do is good. They’re soldiers who if they’re ordered to raze an entire city full of children, they will follow that order. But only if the one giving the order is worth serving, and the United States isn’t worth them serving under.

It’s a big headache and Wilson is no help at all in solving the problem. It makes him wonder if he shouldn’t run again, but he made a promise that he wouldn’t. He can only hope that someone will be able to solve the mess, before something happens. For without a navy, there is nothing preventing anyone with a navy from throwing their weight around with US shipping and territories.

Roosevelt looks at an article of the American Klabautermanns showing up in other nations. The six frigate sisters with a group of other ships are in the United Kingdom staying on HMS Victory and giving her a repair job while they’re at it. They’re also helping to identify anything magical as they can sense if something is magical.

The countries that have visiting American Klabautermanns are using them to find magic objects, in agreement to allow them to stay in said country. Which is known thanks to the American Klabautermanns not being shy about talking about it. Or why they left their country in the first place, and said countries are trying to have them sign up to serve in their country’s navy. Giving the United States, egg on their face.

“The government is going to have to get its act together before the Klabautermanns are all gone,” Roosevelt said to himself.

Since coming back he has been looking into finding magic. Using his government connections he’s been able to create a new government department, Spookhouse to handle magic, which he’s helping to build up thanks to having first hands experience in working under Sunset. Who also gave him pointers in what to look for when she learned of Spookhouse while he was still in Russia. (2)

Without the Klabautermanns the Untied States can’t defend its interests or make advancements in magic. With those racist fools rather ruining the country then making any sort of deals. They need to be taken out of office before anything could be done and get the American Klabautermanns loyalty.

1 - Like in real life the racists in power fought any changes to the law where non whites would be given equal rights and support highly racist laws. And if the nation suffers for it, they would stick to their guns till they’re out of power.

And I am an American and I’m not going to paint a make believe past and history of how things were just because some people can’t stand the truth of how things were that bad. And the setting is in the past when it happen and not a make believe past, where non whites in the United States weren’t treated badly.
