“Chocolates, Check! Flowers… Check. Hair and cologne! Ok, breathe” Alex said as he sniffed his armpits. He looked himself over in the mirror as he went over his checklist. His green eyes and tanned skin looked back at him as he ran his fingers through his shaggy ash-blonde hair smoothing any imperfections. Alex had casually crossed over into Equestria via his log cabins closet. Falling into a fountain outside a castle from a 1 way trans-dimensional portal wasn’t how Alex thought his life would change. Despite being arrested by waist high technicolor ponies Alex had been acquitted. Thanks to Princess Celestia, one of the rulers of said ponies.
Ever since their meeting Alex and Celestia developed a friendship that took even Luna, Celestia’s sister and Co-ruler by surprise. Celestia made Alex a personal attendant to her so they were in close proximity daily. With this Alex and Celestia found themselves engaged in all types of conversations. From History, to pastries, reading, and more. The castle staff however knew the duo for their endless escapades through the castle, and pranks on Luna and staff. The duo had grown close after 5 years of working together and Alex had found himself wanting more than just work and friendship. While reminiscing Alex had focused again to find himself at Celestia’s door.
“When the hell did I get here?” Alex asked aloud. Not expecting a response he jumped when he got one.
“About 5 minutes ago Mr. Alex. Is thou alright?” A familiar voice asked behind him. Turning Alex saw Luna staring at him with her head tilted to the side. Blushing, he tried to hide the flowers and chocolates.
“Ah Lu- I mean, Princess Luna, yes I am alright just uhh…. Thinking about stuff yeah StUff” Alex stammered out. Luna used her magic and levitated the flowers and chocolates Alex was attempting to hide and examined them. Alex swore he could see the gears in Luna’s head turn until he saw her eyes go wide.
“Dost thou mean to court thy sister?!” Luna asked enthusiastically, making the blush on Alex’s face grow more red. Taking a moment to collect himself Alex exhaled deeply.
“I-it was the plan, but now that I’m here I’m having second thoughts. Maybe I should ju-” Alex rambled on. Luna, tuning out his worries, closed his mouth with her magic and returned the flowers and chocolates.
“Nonsense, you will be seeing this through. We have not seen sister so spry in quite some time, and we think thou would be a good fit.” Luna said, trying to contain her amusement. Alex fought to keep his smile to himself. He didn’t want to get his hopes up for no reason but if what Luna said was true, he did stand a chance…possibly.
“Well if you don’t uhh… mind I’d like to court Celestia” Alex said, doing his best to make it sound like he was asking for permission. This made Luna giggle and turn to leave.
“Thee has nothing to fear, we already said thou would be seeing it through. We wish thee luck.” Luna said walking down the hallway. When the sounds of her hooves on the marble faded Alex exhaled and turned to face Celestia’s door once more. Walking up to the door Alex gave the door 4 firm knocks and waited.
“One moment please, I’ll be there in a moment” Celestia’s voice called. Hearing her soothing voice made Alex’s stomach churn. Maybe he could wait to share his feelings until he was feeling up to it. Not like he didn’t have time or anything.
“Yea let's just wait fo-” Alex mumbled to himself. However before he could walk away, Celestia’s door began to open slowly. Every fiber of Alex’s being screamed at him for being so slow to act. As he berated himself for being so slow, his conscious voice faded as he laid eyes on her. Seeing the alabaster Alicorn emerge from the room and stand in front of him his brain shorted out. Her amethyst eyes met his own and she smiled at him warmly.
“Ah, Alex hello. What brings you here today, aren’t you off this evening?” Celestia asked him before lowering her gaze to his hands.
“Ah y-yea I am but umm… Happy Hearts and hooves day Celestia” Said Alex a little louder than he intended too. The outburst made Celestia jump for a moment but she quickly composed herself and coughed into her hoof.
“Why thank you Alex. Happy Hearts and hooves day. Sadly I was not prepared to give you anything but I would invite you to enjoy a drink with me” Celestia said. She used her magic to take the chocolates Alex held out for her and motion him into her room.
“I-I-I’d hate to interrupt your evening Princess” Alex said backing up. Celestia puffed her cheeks out and pouted.
“I told you to call me Tia when it’s just us and I am not asking you to join me.” Celestia said annoyed.
“Oh then I’ll be se-”Alex said as he was lifted off the ground. Struggling he relented as he looked Celestia in the eyes.
“I am telling you. Your ‘Princess’ commands it” Celestia said, huffing in mock annoyance and walking into her room. Alex’s mind was crumbling in the doorway. Her playful tone always got to him to blush. Today she was doing something else to him.
“Ahh, alright Tia I’m coming you can put me down now” Alex groaned in embarrassment. He should do things properly and confess how he feels. If he bottled up how he felt about her any longer he wouldn’t be able to take it. If what Luna said was true, that glimmer of hope that Celestia felt the same way. It was enough for him to gather his courage and walk through the chamber doors.
Alex was not in fact ready at all to say how he really felt. As he sat down with Celestia at the coffee table in front of the fireplace in her room. Alex had been in this room several times and paid it no mind but today…today was different. Everything felt cozier than he remembered, but maybe that was just the brisk mid February weather. The rich earthy smell of burning wood a nice contrast to sweet honey wine he had. The feeling reminded him of home with his family when they'd go to the family log cabin and camp.
“Is the wine alright Alex? I can grab something else if it isn’t” Celestia asked. Snapping Alex out of his day dream of home. She looked as dignified as when she would speak with nobles and other ambassadors. The only difference was the genuine caring smile and head tilt that made him giddy.
“N-no you're perfect,” Alex froze for a moment, “ I MEAN IT’S PERFECT” he blurted out immediately after. Blushing like crazy he quickly raised his glass to his mouth and began to drink. God he needed to find a way out to compose himself but his brain was preoccupied trying to put together basic sentences.
“Alex, something seems to be bothering you please…tell me I am here for you” Celestia said softly before using her magic to bring her glass to her lips. Sipping her wine she closed her eyes for a moment before setting the cup down. She got up from her seat and moved around the table to sit next to Alex on the couch. Her inquisitive and caring gaze made him feel safe and the walls he had up began to crumble.
“Cel-...Tia there’s something important I’ve been meaning to share with you for a while” Alex said slowly. He wanted to pick his words carefully so at least if he got rejected it wasn’t because he misspoke.
“Take your time Alex, I am going nowhere this evening” Celestia said, leaning her head on his shoulder and sighing deeply. Alex took her up on that and stayed silent for a while. Alex felt as her chest rose and fell with each breath she took. Her warmth radiated from her relaxing him as he gathered his thoughts. The two stayed as they were for a while, neither really wanting to move and ruin the moment. Finally Alex found what he wanted to say and cleared his throat. Celestia sat up and faced him looking him in the eyes.
“I …like you Tia” Alex said meekly. Celestia smiled and hugged him.
“I like you too Alex, you are a wonderful friend” Celestia said. Alex’s heart sank as he broke the hug and shook his head.
“Not what I meant, I mean … I Love you Tia. I want you” Alex said, staring at Celestia. There, he said it and with no room for misinterpretation. The alabaster mare was taken aback by the confession.
“A-Are you sure?” She asked quietly, looking at him. Tears formed in the corner of her eyes as she tried to not bear hug him right there.
“It's been five years Tia. It would have been all too easy to dismiss me and move on with your life” Alex said, wrapping his arms around Celestia once again. She relaxed into the hug and hummed nuzzling into his neck.
“But you didn’t. You helped me, spoke with me and became my best friend. And after all this time I finally have the words to say how I feel.” Alex said, pausing.
“There’s more,” Celestia inquired playfully. Her excitement couldn’t be hidden and this made Alex laugh and shake his head before he spoke.
“It's that I have come to love you in ways you have never been loved, for reasons I can't remember, and definitely longer than you think you deserve.” Alex said quietly into Celestia’s ear making her shiver and her coat stand on end.
“I-I for once am at a loss for words Alex,” Celestia said, slowly lifting her head from his neck to face him. Alex's heart was beating out of his ribcage, his hands were getting sweaty, and his mind was racing.
“Ah, I said it finally. I'll be ok now, if you don’t feel the same way- mmph!”Alex said before Celestia planted a kiss on his lips. The kiss was firm but gentle and it cleared his head of any assumptions. It also cleared his head in general as Celestia broke the kiss and looked at him giggling. Alex had leaned to keep the kiss instinctively but Celestia put her hoof up to his lips.
“I’m glad I no longer have to hold myself back, I wondered if you thought of us as just friends. I have never been more overjoyed to be wrong,” Celestia said practically beaming at him. Her smile was wide, loving, and most importantly it was directed at him for him and only him. Alex brough his hand to Celestia's cheek and with his other hand he grabbed the hoof on his lips. He leaned in for another kiss, this one more passionate and deep than the first. Celestia returned the kiss with as much enthusiasm as Alex, the tears in the corner of her eyes fell. Alex broke the kiss when he felt her tears.
“Did I do something wrong? Are you ok?” Alex asked bringing both hands to hold Celestia's face. Seeing the concern on his face Celestia laughed and shook her head.
“I am perfectly fine, just like I said before, happy but that doesn’t do this feeling justice” Celestia said. Alex wiped her tears and kissed her forehead and let go of her face.
“Ok, g-good sorry I’m just super nervous and a-all” Alex said, stuttering a bit. Celestia fought another fit of laughter before getting up from her spot on the couch and walking towards her bathroom.
“I’ll be back in a moment, don’t run off now” Celestia said playfully. Alex just nodded as he watched her walk the sway in hips , captivating him. He didn’t know if it was him or was Celestia’s tail moving more than usual? Celestia looking over her shoulder smirked and entered the bathroom.
“Everything will be ok, I think?” Alex said under his breath. Hearing the door to the bathroom open Alex looked at Celestia who was sauntering over to him. The half lidded gaze she gave him as she got closer to him made his face go red. When Celestia got to him she gave him another kiss, this one more forceful and hungry. Their tongues battled for dominance as they got more and more into the kiss. Celestia broke the kiss slowly, a trail of saliva connecting their mouths for a moment longer. Alex's breathing was shallow and the crotch of his jeans was getting a little tight.
“I still have yet to give you your Hearts and Hooves day present, My not so little Alex,” Celestia said quietly, her words dripping with desire. She had feelings for Alex as well, she couldn’t tell when they had bloomed. However, being with somepony or someone that genuinely valued her time and hobbies was something that she hadn’t experienced in a long time. Celestia had received his feelings, and she was going to reply earnestly, Veryearnestly.
Luna awoke to a panicked knocking at her door which she was less than thrilled to hear. Groggily getting up, she trudged to her door.
“This better be important or we shall send whomever to the moon” Luna said, rubbing her eyes. Luna had expected to talk with her sister before she went to sleep for the morning. However she had seen neither hide nor tail of her older sister.
“Sorry to bother you, your majesty.” A guard said, standing to attention.
“Just get on with it,” Luna commanded.
“The sun has not risen ma’am. It’s 0900 hours ma’am,” The guard said without flinching. Luna rolled her eyes and walked into the hallway.
“ Dismissed!,” Luna said to the guard as she turned the corner
“Sister hath probably passed out from her exciting evening. Here we thought sister would come running once they finished conversing” Luna mumbled as she got to her sister's door. Knocking on the door, Luna waited for a response. She waited, and waited, and waited and…
“Oh for sisters sake!” Luna said, annoyed that her sister could be so careless as to forget to raise the sun. Opening the door Luna looked around the dim room. Couch cushions, pillows, and blankets were strewn across the room. Then the smell hit Luna as she scrunched her nose.
“Sister it is a pigsty in here what…” Luna said before pausing. She looked at the bed to see Alex and her sister in a rather compromising situation.
“Oh. Oh my…” Luna whispered as she backed towards the hallway before gently closing the door. She would let her sister be, just this once. She would raise the sun on her behalf and later they could have a long chat about how she got to where she currently was.
