Maybe Clumsy Feet Deserve Love Too
Starlight Ridge. What secrets could such a magical place hold? Was the town anything more significant in the past than the near-ruins it is today? Where exactly do they get their hot cocoa from?
None of those questions lingered on the mind of our favorite purple unicorn (that existed in the modern day, not ten to twenty generations ago) Izzy Moonbow. Instead, chatting it up with her newest friend Comet, a clumsy, yet gold-hearted auroricorn from the north, was her greatest priority.
“Ya know, with the whole winged kitty thing that was here last time, I never really got a chance to hang out at your place, show you a REAL unicorn sleepover!” Izzy said.
Comet held up the Nova Charm near the Together Tree that held an evil-as-can-be purple alicorn within its roots, a magical portal opening up and revealing a glittery, snowy land beyond.
“Yeah, uhh, we can rest at my place! But…weren’t you gonna bring the rest of your friends too?” Comet replied, stepping through the portal and immediately slipping on the freshly fallen snow.
“Ahhh…I really have to learn to quit doing that, my feet are faster than my brain…” he sighed, a small grin on his face as Izzy stepped over him.
Izzy giggled at his little predicament, helping him out of the snow and onto the path to his hometown. “I WOOOULD, but Sunny has her smoothie stand to run, Pipp is at Zephyr Heights with her mom, and Hitch is on sherriff duty today. Oh, and Misty and Zipp decided to head over to the beach for the day.”
“W-well, that leaves just us two, huh?” Comet replied, gulping.
He had never been adept at handling mares’ company by himself, much less one he fancied like Izzy. Her naiveness, carefree nature, and her slight clumsiness was just…something that resonated with him. None of the few mares in his isolated slice of the world liked him, nor did they catch his eye like the lavender unicorn did when she arrived.
“A-anyway, uhh, here we are again, Starlight Ridge…not much to see here, I guess, but I’m gonna show you around anyway…WITHOUT any evil purple tyrants to hurt us this time.”
“Now that sounds SUPER to me! You can only kick so many baddies out of the place before ya get bored!”
“Soooo, you know our little cocoa hall, right? We just got a new flavor in! Chocolate, of course, and strawberry, and vanilla! All in one!” Comet said, pointing to the largest building.
Izzy rubbed her hands together at the idea. “Ooooh, Neopolitan? You guys are SPOILED, that sounds YUMMY!”
Comet chuckled softly as he walked around the few buildings of his hometown, showing them off in much more detail than the LAST visit.
“Hey,” Izzy said, “After this, you wanna go trip-skating with me?”
Comet’s heart jumped slightly. He knew that look on her face. He wasn’t quite sure how Izzy’s brain operated, but what he did know is that she wanted what she wanted, and she wanted it at that moment. “O-oh, yeah, sure, of course…we can go now, if you want?”
Izzy nodded vigorously, and off the two ran to the nearby ice rink. Thankfully, the excited unicorn was able to hold onto her friend and keep him from slipping along the way.
“Here we are, heh…so, do you-“ Comet cleared his throat slightly. Izzy had just taken off her winter boots, and was putting on a pair of nearby ice skates. He pretended not to notice anything, attempting to forget about what he was able to lay eyes upon.
“Ehem, uh, do you need help putting those on?” he finished, putting on his own skates.
“Nahhhh, don’t worry, my feetsies are allll nice and tight in there! Now c’mon, we’re burnin’ daylight! Well, night light? Aurora? Anywaaaay, let’s get to it!” Izzy replied excitedly, grabbing his hand and yanking him onto the rink.
Comet had truly never had such fun before. Despite his feet being as graceful as cement blocks, Izzy was more than happy to either slip up with him or keep him on his toes. He completely lost track of time while sliding around with his newest friend, and neither did he care how much had passed.
Upon slipping and falling once more into the strangely comfortable snow, the auroricorn put his head up, straightened his glasses, and put out his hand. "Ahahaha, whoops, sorry Izzy...I've really gotta get better at my trip-skating, I guess…”
Izzy snorted and grabbed his glittery hand to assist him, pulling him out of the snow. "Ahhhh psshh, you saw how I was last time, not like I'M any better on my feet...ooohohohooo, speaking of feet...mine are FREEZY, ya wanna get us to your place finally? Gimme that cocoa you promised?"
An Aurora Flare suddenly went off in the distance.
"I'm gonna take THAT as a yes! Let's get crackin', I can only trip-skate for so long before the Frosty Sh-er, I mean, the chills get to me! Sorry, can't say those words!" the giddy unicorn giggled.
Comet, on the other hand, was happy to lead Izzy to his humble home. The Aurora Flare, thankfully, did not reveal quite the idea he was so excited about. Something he hadn't quite been able to face up to for his entire life.
The demure sparkly stallion wasn't quite sure if he should be thinking such...things...things about one of his very new friends, things that might put such a beautiful unicorn off. Even one as carefree and understanding as Izzy. He decided to put such thoughts away, and simply focus on being a welcoming host to his friend.
"Ahh, hehe, o-of course Izzy, right this way! Catch me if I fall?" Comet laughed. The tightening of Izzy's hand around his told him all he needed to know. Even though he knew he could never get closer than friend-level with any mare, especially his own people, he nonetheless enjoyed the warm feeling of Izzy's grasp for as long as he could.
With his heart racing a million beats per minute, he made it across the town square to his house, holding the door open for his lovely unicorn friend to skip inside. Grinning playfully and letting out a giggle, he announced, "La Villa, Comet!" while gesturing his hand through the doorway.
Izzy snorted in response as he stepped in with her. "Hey, that's MY greeting line!"
"Hehehe, err, sorry, I didn't realise..."
"I know I know Commy, you're sooo easy to mess with! You can steal it if you want, we're friends here! Now, about that Neopolitan hot cocoa?"
The gentle stallion nodded, eager to please his new guest. He had scarcely had mares in his house, alone, with him, much less one from such a beautiful exotic land, and was determined not to mess anything up. "Ahaha, a promise is a promise...Violet Frost says it's gonna be the hot flavor for the next century! Now, where did I put those..."
The cabinet full of cocoa was quickly searched, Izzy tapping her boots on the floor in anticipation. Despite Comet's earlier vow to forget about himself being able to...be closer to his newest friend, he found himself slightly flustered. Each tap of Izzy's blue snow boots was infectious to the shy stallion's mind, as if what was hidden inside was trying to call to him. Seemingly to remind him of what he couldn't have, because it was too weird to be fascinated by such things.
Despite the challenges Izzy's tapping were causing him, Comet managed to find the elixir of the gods, so to speak, and immediately set to work to prepare a hot cup for them both.
"Aaalright, so it'll be a couple minutes, then we can have the tastiest cup of cocoa ever!"
"Soooooo since we got a few minutes," Izzy began as Comet took a seat across from her at his kitchen table, "didja know that your sparkle right now is SUPER high?"
"Sparkle? O-oh, hehe, I remember you saying that stuff about your other friends...whaddya mean though? Is that good?" Comet stammered, a small blush forming behind his hexagonal glasses.
A skeptical look crossed the face of the crazy unicorn, and Comet slowly recoiled as her head leaned further inwards, as if she was inspecting him. "I'm just throwin' that out there, Commy, you got a big ol' magenta sparkle! Ever since we stepped through the portal!"
"W-well, that's a bit random, isn't it...Oh! I think the cocoa's ready!" Comet said, getting up out of his chair and tripping on one of the legs. He quickly turned off the stove, pouring a cup of the sweet nectar for both himself and for Izzy, and sat back down across from her.
The auroricorn wasn't quite able to meet her scrutinizing gaze. He took a sip of his hot drink, shaking slightly, until Izzy's boot tapped onto the shin of his own winter boot. He froze for a moment and looked directly into her eyes. Had she somehow figured him out? Had she seen how much more he wanted...needed that little touch again?
"I-Is something wrong? Izzy? Is it the strawberry part? I SWEAR I added in the right amount this time!
"Oh, no no no, I'm sorry Comet, the cocoa is fanTASMIC! You look super scared though, am I scaring you? Oooh I KNEW Misty told me to work on not staring ponies down..."
Comet straightened his glasses and gulped, snapping out of his little shock and shaking his head. "N-no, I'm fine, I'm fine...s-so, uh, my sparkle? What does it mean?"
"Ehem, well, I once saw that shade of magenta sparkle coming off Misty the second time she came over for a Bridlewood sleepover...I think that means you wanna go sit by the fire now! Get toasterific! Warm the tootsies! Ehehe, unicorns, we can see that stuff..."
A bead of sweat dripped down Comet's head. Warm the tootsies? Did she mean...
"Oh, uhm, yeah, let's keep this cocoa train rollin'! C'mon! Living room!" Comet said, excitedly, his heart racing. His friend wanted to sit with him in front of the fire? How much better could life get?
It wasn't long before that's exactly what happened.
Izzy grabbed her cocoa and skipped over with Comet to where his fireplace was, and he flicked the switch to get the flames roaring. She plopped herself down onto his sofa...and promptly kicked off her winter boots, causing the auroricorn to stop in his tracks for half a second.
He tried desperately not to notice the outlines of Izzy's toes gripped by a pair of socks that were one size too small. To ignore her cutie mark clearly hand-stitched into the soft looking cyan fabric on each one, and the glitter infused all over them.
"Ahhhh, I'm feeling super-better already," she sighed, flexing her toes to enjoy the heat, "C'mon, what're ya staring at my socks for? Sit with me!"
As she patted the couch beside her, Comet took her up on that offer, clutching his cocoa and taking a seat next to his unicorn friend.
"What, ya like my socks? I made 'em myself from scraps from one of Sunny's birthday parties!" she proudly stated, crossing her legs.
Despite his brain clouding up with images of what could be below those socks, Comet couldn't help but genuinely appreciate the artistry behind them, smiling slightly. "H-heh, you made those yourself? They look comfy..."
"Of COURSE they are, they keep my feetsies warm and snug! Now, arent'cha gonna join me or do they have to be all alone out here?" Izzy giggled.
"You...want me to take off my boots too?" he cautiously asked, despite him being quite used to removing any footwear in his home. However, having a mare around, his beautiful best friend, made things slightly more complicated on his end.
"Well how ELSE are ya gonna get cozy? Psh, c'mon Commy, you're soooo uptight! You gotta let loose a little! I mean, what's so scary about feet?"
"Ahhh...hahaha...I can't argue with that..." Comet replied, complying with his friend's orders, fumbling the laces for a few minutes before he managed to remove them. Izzy gave him a warm-hearted grin that made the butterflies in his stomach go wild, as she pointed down at his now-bare feet.
"There you go Commy, that's what I wanna see! Ooooh, you don't even wear socks? How do you ever keep your toesies warm like mine? And you guys get glitter on your legs and feet too? Oh hoofness, I wish that stuff stayed on ME when I went back to Equestria!"
Comet curled his smaller, slender toes, the glitter on his skin catching the low light. The gentle stallion crossed his feet awkwardly, unable to help but feel rather exposed under Izzy's watchful gaze, like it was inappropriate to have his feet out for her to see.
But at the same time, it felt...good, to have SOMETHING of his looked at with a genuine fascination by a mare. And the fact that the object of affection was exactly what he had longed for in his life...
"Hey..." Izzy's voice snapped him out of his thoughts. "Do you have any fabric up here? Sock-like? Stretchy? I could unicycle it into a pair for you too!"
Comet scratched his head. "N-not that I know of...it's alright Izzy, I do just fine without socks here...we auroricorns are built for this place, remember?
Izzy shook her head, wagging her finger at him. "Nuh uh! That's not gonna cut it! Your ol' auntie Izzy won't take that for an answer! Here..."
The excited purple mare reached down to her feet, promptly peeling off her homemade socks. As the fabric was pulled back, Comet's breath was caught in his throat. He had never seen such a beautiful pair of feet in his life.
The size of Izzy's bare foot was slightly larger than his own. The skin on her sole was flawless, like it had been treated with special healing snow. The lavender arches were revealed to be curved gently, and the toes looked flexible and delectable. None of what Comet imagined Equestrian feet to look like could have matched up to the reality in front of him.
And to top it all off, Izzy had grabbed his hand and placed the pair of her socks upon his palm. "There ya go, one pair of warm and fuzzy socks, from Izzy Moonbow herself! Hey...are ya daydreaming or something? Is there something stuck on my feet?"
"Oh, n-no there i-" the stallion began, but was unable to finish his sentence. Izzy's foot had been placed on his lap too quickly, and his face began to burn brightly. Something began to stir in his pants, betraying his thoughts to his unicorn friend.
"Waaaaait..." Izzy's eyes went wide, her exposed sole moving up and down Comet's lower body. This was it. He was about to lose his new friend, to her sole being pressed down at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Pffft, no one looks at feet 'cause it's weird, Have you even BEEN to Mane Melody? They get their feet all touched up and painted just so others can do JUST THAT! I got mine done a little while ago! Here, feel!"
Izzy immediately placed her left foot into Comet's hand, causing the already-blushing auroricorn to turn an even deeper shade of red. Even so, he could not resist holding his friend's foot with both hands, moving them up and down the length of her sole and her toes. To think all he had to do was ask!
"See? They're SUPER soft, thanks to Pipp herself! It's ok if you wanna touch them more! But..." Izzy grinned slyly, pulling away both of her feet. "On one condition."
"Wh...what? But...?"
