Sunset lost everypony she cared about in a house fire, escaping from an orphanage to face the streets of Canterlot by herself after deciding she would rather be looking after herself.

Lyra's the filly of a rich family, dumped on the street after her family decided she wasn't going to live up to her family name. When Sunset finds the filly abandoned in an alley, Sunset shares some bread she stole with Lyra. Together, the two fillies find a way to survive together.
