Chapter 3 A pony in my head

"Where am I?" The quiet mare's words trembled. Her back was facing anon, he didn't need to see her face to know what she was feeling.

Fear, she shook in fear. Her whole body trembled, as she was stuck watching out of the window. She was terrified, lost and alone. Anon couldn't even imagine what she was going through. Being transported to a entirely different world without having any say in it.

Seeing her being this vulnerable made something inside of Anon click. He had to push past the slight fear of the alien in his bedroom aside so that he could be the thing that she needed right now, comfort.

Anon shifted uncomfortably next to his bed. Something in him told him to give her a hug, but he wasn't sure why he felt that way.

'Fuck it, here goes nothing.'

"Hey, how are you holding up?" The mare's shaking didn't stop but the flick of her left ear made him think she heard him. "Do you need some space? I can leave the room if that's what you want." Her head shook, answering his question. "Would you like a hug?" He really didn't know where this sudden urge came from but he felt like it was the right thing to do.

Then she did something he didn't expect, the reserved yellow mare turned away from the window and practically jumped into his arms. This had the side effect of him falling on his ass. Luckily his bed was in the way so he could catch himself before he fell. Now Anon sat atop his bed, holding the yellow mare in his arms.

His arms wrapped around her like a blanket, as she rested her head against his chest, burying her face deep into him.

She was soft, warm and fluffy. A warm feeling enveloped his chest as he hugged the mare. But this wasn't about him, it was about the still shivering and scared mare in his arms. He rubbed circles in her back softly, eliciting a small shaky hum from her. As time slowly ticked away her shivering lessened. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"I-I don't know where I am. Nothing about this place is familiar to me, and I just want to go home." The yellow pegasus looked into Anon's eyes. He could see that the aquamarine eyes held back tears like a dam holding back a colossal body of water.

Anons mouth curved into a sympathetic smile. "Hey, no need to cry." Anon wiped away a tear that got through a crack in her defences. "How about you tell me what happened just before you got here? We could see if you have any way to get back." Anon had never tried to cheer up a lady before, much less a mare so he was very inexperienced with this situation, but he thought that he was doing good so far.

Fluttershy took a few seconds to collect herself before answering. "I-I was going to visit my friend Twilight at her castle, but when I got there she was busy with some kind of science experiment, then there was a flash of white, and that's all I remember." Another tear rolled down her cheek which was wiped off by Anon.

"This Twilight, is she a scientist?" Fluttershy answered with a nod. "And she might have brought you here by accident?" Another nod. "Then she can probably bring you back to your world. I know that's a very lame answer but I don't think I have any dimensional portals in my apartment."

"Can't anypony else help?" Fluttershy's watery eyes glistened in the sunlight that beamed through Anon's window.

Anon rubbed the back of his head and chuckled awkwardly. "Well, about that. I don't think anyone else here should see you. Sorry."

"Why not? Your kind seem like you have the technology for it, why couldn't you help me?" It looked like Fluttershy had oceans being held back in her eyes. She was on the brink of crying again.

"Whoa whoa. I'm not trying to keep you from your friends, It's just-" As he looked into those tear filled eyes he couldn't help but think if he should hold the truth back a bit. She looked so innocent, it was a thing he really didn't want to shatter with the knowledge of what people might do to her if they found her out. After a few moments of deliberation he sighed. "I'm going to be brutally honest with you. Humans aren't all that-" He paused for a moment, as if he was looking for the right words to say. "-well, they aren't all that nice. Especially towards something they don't understand."

Fluttershy blinked in confusion. "But you're nice, so far at least."

Anon sighed again. "There are a few exceptions, but if you were to walk outside right now, there would be mass panic in the streets. People would try to capture you and then you'd be taken to a lab to be a test subject for the rest of your life, and that's the best case scenario." Fluttershy's expression turned from saddened confusion to that for slight fear. "But if you just stay out of sight then you should be completely fine. We'll wait for your friend to somehow bring you back and everything will go back to normal."

"W-what if somepony finds me?" The yellow mare started visibly shaking in fear, she shook so much that it was almost comical. Anon might have chuckled, only if this wasn't happening right in front of him.

Anon laid a hand on her back in a comforting manner. "No one will. You just stay inside my apartment and you will be perfectly safe. Just don't go near the windows."

"O-ok." She wiped her eyes with a foreleg and gave Anon a small smile. "Thank you. For letting me stay here."

"I'm sure you'd do the same if I were to somehow appear in your house." Anon smiled at her.

Now that the situation was handled Anon realised that Fluttershy was still sitting on his lap. he cleared his throat. "Uhm, Fluttershy. Could you get off my lap now?"

"Oh, sorry." A slight blush covered her cheeks as she got off his lap and sat down on to his bed. Anon wasn't going to question the fact that he could see her blush through fur.

"How about I give you a tour of the place that you'll be staying in for a the foreseeable future?" Anon stood up and spread his arms wide apart. "This is the bedroom, as you can see." He opened the door to his living room that doubled as a kitchen. The place was still full of pizza boxes, empty beer cans and dirty clothes. "This is the living room and kitchen." He winced at all the trash littered around the place. "I would have cleaned if I knew I'd have guests." He walked to his sofa and sat down. "At least I do have a TV and a PC so we shouldn't be too bored." He then pointed towards a closed door opposite to his bedroom. "That's the bathroom." Then his finger turned to the identical door next to the bathroom. "And that's the front door. You probably shouldn't go through there." He then turned back to face his guest. "And that's the tour. So what do you think?"

Fluttershy offered him a polite smile. "It's lovely." Her hoof accidentally kicked a beer can that rolled across the floor and stopped at Anons feet. Seeing Anon's gaze linger on the can, Fluttershy waved it off with a wing. "Oh don't you worry, I've seen Rainbow Dash's room when she first moved out. It was way more dirty than this." She chuckled slightly at the memory, but her smile slowly turned to that of a slight frown.

Anon patted the spot next to him on his sofa. "How about you tell me about your friends? If you're fine with it."

The next hour passed quickly as Fluttershy told Anon all about her friends and their adventures in her world. The tales held Anon in place like some sort of shackle, he couldn't really do much more than listen to his new friend and sometimes laugh at the very absurd things that happened to them.

The story Fluttershy had been telling was cut off by a deep grumble from both of their stomachs. Fluttershy blushed and Anon chuckled.

"I'll order some food." Anon was pulling his phone out of his pocket until he realised something. "Wait, what kinds of food do you eat?"

"Oh, well. I like salads."

"Wait, you're a herbivore right?"

"Uhm, yes. Why do you ask?" Fluttershy cocked her head to the left, like a puppy. Honestly it was absolutely adorable.

'So, she's a herbivore. Would it be bad if I tell her that I eat meat? Would she think that I might eat her if I told her that I enjoy meat?' After a few seconds of deliberation, Anon decided to just be honest with his new house guest. "Is it a problem that I eat meat?"

Fluttershy blinked and answered. "No. I have many friends who are carnivores and omnivores, so I'm used to seeing them eat. I just prefer not to look at them when they do though." She gave Anon a sheepish smile.

"Phew." Anon wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. "I was afraid that you might have thought that I would have eaten you or something silly like that."

"Why would you have thought so?"

"Well, I don't want to blow smoke up my ass but we humans kind of are the dominant predators in our world. So I could kind of see you thinking something like that as a possibility. But we'd never eat something that could actually talk. At least I wouldn't, I'd feel too bad about it."

"Well It's good to know that you won't eat me, I feel safer already." Fluttershy giggled.

The next few hours passed with both Anon and Fluttershy exchanging information about both of their worlds, and some information about themselves. Fluttershy had learnt that Anon was an avid "gamer" and the watcher of cartoon shows. She didn't know what those were but she was happy for him nonetheless, while Anon learned that Fluttershy was an animal lover and that she loved the outdoors. Something that made him kind of sad knowing that she'd have to spend the foreseeable future stuck inside his apartment without any other company than himself. Soon though it was time for him to head to his last night shift of this week. He'd said bye to Fluttershy and to not open the door to anyone before he left.

Now he was stuck inside a small room watching security cameras for the rest of the night. It was quite boring but he didn't really mind it all that much. He usually just listened to music while relaxing and ever so often glancing at the camera feeds. But this night was a bit different, he was waiting for his shift to end so he could check up on Fluttershy. He wasn't sure why but the small butter pegasus hadn't left his mind even once during his shift. Every time he wanted to change his course of thought it would always steer back to the small alien in his apartment.

"Hmm. I wonder if she would let me pet her." Anon couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to give her some ear scratches and head pats.
