It all started with an average Pinkie Pie-Cheese Sandwich combo party. And by average, that, of course, means off the walls. Ponies were screaming, lights were strobing, and the spirits were high.
Starlight watched from the side, nestling in a comfortable chair. In all reality, she couldn’t tell who this party was for. But she was invited, and it was rude to reject. She downed her up-teenth drink, the alcohol burning her throat.
The unicorn blinked, her eyelids heavy. She was ready to pass out in this chair, not to be awoken until the sun imploded. Starlight knew she was being dramatic, but that’s how she felt.
“Oh, Staaaarliiiight.” Someone sang to her attention. Starlight peeked her eyes open, seeing her delightful marefriend. Trixie hobbled, a dopey grin spread across her face. One good look at Trixie was all Starlight needed to know that she was absolutely plastered.
Trixie stood on her haunches, flinging her arms across Starlight. She planted a wet kiss onto her cheek, ending it with a sickly moist ‘pop.’
“Trixie has something to show youuuu.” She sang, nuzzling Starlight’s ear. Starlight huffed, leaning farther into her chair.
“Issit important?” Starlight slurred. She would stay in this seat until the party ended if it were up to her. To her dismay, Trixie gave her a hum of confirmation.
“Itss ssuper important.” Trixie’s words jumbled together. “Now, get off your laaazzzy butt.” She ordered, nudging Starlight from her seat. Starlight groaned, forcing herself up. Her ears buzzed from the blaring music.
“Let's go!” Trixie ordered, nudging Starlight’s rear. She hobbled in front of Starlight, having a little dance in each step.
Trixie led her marefriend for what felt like hours, but in reality, had only been a couple of minutes. Starlight's legs ached, and she was ready to drop where she stood.
“Just this waaaay.” Trixie giggled like a filly, ducking under a tent. Starlight ducked after her, flopping onto her stomach.
She grumbled. Whatever this thing was, it better be good. Trixie pointed, a grin spread across her face.
“Behold!” In front of them was a giant firework. Surrounding it were much smaller fireworks. On the side of the firework was sprawled ‘Property of Pinkie Pie. Do Not Touch.”
Starlight looked at her marefriend, awaiting an explanation.
“So your name is Starlight, right?” Trixie implored. “Well, Trixie thought, why not take her amazing marefriend to the stars! It matches your name, after all.”
If Starlight were sober, she would easily point out every flaw in this plan. Unfortunately, she was beyond drunk. Any ounce of tiredness was replaced with a newfound sense of adventure. Starlight let out a dopey giggle, skipping towards the death machine.
“Let’s get this thing going, I wanna see where my name comes from!” Starlight chortled, slapping the side of the firework. She messily climbed on it, her hooves clambering over the surface. The silence of space would be leagues above this overcrowded party. Trixie laughed, quickly following suit.
“Wait for meeee!” She called. Trixie nudged in front of Starlight, taking the reigns. Starlight wrapped her hooves across Trixie’s torso, nuzzling into her fur. Trixie placed her hat on Starlight’s head, following it with a peck on the forehead.
“Don’t want you to get cold; Trixie has heard it is veeery chilly in space.” She informed. Starlight sighed lovingly. Her marefriend was so smart. Trixie pointed to the twinkling stars, hope filling her chest.
“Trixie will take you to the stars!” Trixie announced. With a swift fire spell, Trixie ignited the fuse. The firework began to rumble, and the couple held on tight.
Soon, the pair were launched into the sky, their love nestling between the stars.

“Can you tell me again how this happened?” The officer asked, clicking the pen under her wing. Starlight sighed, her gaze wandering to the now-ruined party. Several items were either burnt or still ablaze.
“We…Trixie thought it was a good idea to launch us into space.” Starlight bashfully admitted. The officer lowered her sunglasses, raising a brow.
“On that firework” She inquired, pointing to the charred firework. Well, it didn’t really look like a firework anymore; more like a charring husk of coal.
Starlight sighed once again, putting her hoof to her muzzle.
“Yep.”
The pegasus cop murmured, jotting into her notepad.
“And that one firework set off the rest of ‘em?” She inquired. Starlight shrunk into her seat, wanting to hide away.
“Mhm.” She squeaked. The officer remained silent, continuing to write away. “In hindsight, it was a better idea,” She reasoned. Starlight was at least grateful that the sheer force of the firework had launched them off.
She shuddered, remembering the hiss of the firework, followed by an explosion. It was an…eventful 15 minutes. It was an honest miracle that no one had died.
The officer hummed, ripping a page from her pad. She held it above Starlight’s head.
“I’m going to need you to show up in town hall tomorrow to discuss your punishment.” She instructed.
Starlight blinked in surprise, her posture straightening. She snatched the paper, oggling it. She looked at the officer and then back at the paper.
“Really? That’s it?”
“Yep,” The officer started. “Normally, you’d be detained, but this is my brother-in-law's party.” She stated matter-of-factly. Starlight cringed.
“I’m so sorry.”
The officer shrugged. “Don’t be, I don’t quite like him.” Her gaze wandered elsewhere. “Now, for your friend…”
Trixie blurred past the pairs, hollering nonsensically. She hopped through the long-evacuated party, two cops following tow.
“You cannot contain the grrrrreat and poooowerful Trrrrixie!” She slurred, bolting across the ruined party. For a drunk mare, she was surprisingly graceful, dodging both officers with ease.
“She’ll need to spend some time in jail until she sobers up.”
Starlight groaned, burying her face into her hooves. Trixie stood on her hind legs, pointing her head to the sky.
“The great and powerfulTrixie will live forev-oof!”Trixie started, only to be tackled by a burly stallion.
“Got her!”
