Beyond The Rainbow
Found and Lost
Load Full Story.-Beyond The Rainbows-.
A couple of Pegasi was spending the conclusion of their sweet honeymoon at Neighagra Falls, famous for its beautiful sights. The night sky caressed the sight of the crescent moon that foreshadowed the stretched ocean, far beyond the compromising sunset. It was the last day this colorful pair had to enjoy in the gorgeous region, and thus, reasoning enough to take a long walk together.
“What a wonderful sunset, isn’t?” said the mare.
“Indeed it is, but I think we should be getting ready to head out” commented the mane colored stallion, Huey. “It’s almost midnight.”
Suddenly, the female companion, Aurora, perked her ears up; she was reminded of an inquiry she had been carrying for a while
“I wanted to ask you something honey.” She had gained his attention instantly. “Should we think about having...?” The mare stopped talking, something had caught her attention.
“Having what, sweetie?” the male companion asked.
“Hey did you hear that? It...Sounds like a...a baby, right over by that tree.”
“Weird. I think we should check it out.” The husband strangely responded in shock, and soon enough, they quickly flew to the base of a huge, distinguishing tree and saw a little brown baby Pegasus staring at the couple uncomfortably. The two adults gave each other a glance of uncertainty.
“Hey, did somepony lose their baby?” Huey’s voice prolonged its existence throughout the forest with the concerning question.
“I don’t see anypony close from here, not even in the sky. Who knows how much time this little cutie’s been here?”
“...Well, we can’t leave our little buddy here, it’s getting dark” He decided for the couple in their abrupt decision.
Aurora and Huey ended up coming back from their ‘eventful’ honeymoon with a baby colt with an assumed age of about eighteen months. The mare convinced her husband that they would keep the child as a son, and they decided to assign him a name
Spectrum, given the name by the father of the stallion.
One day, Spectrum’s artificial mother came back from the doctor-
“Honey, I’m back with have good news... and a baby”- she was telling him the truth. She was pregnant.
“Great! Since our honeymoon? You didn't look pregnant, not even five months ago” – replied Huey with a more noticeable volume. “I’m so thrilled!”
“You’re gonna have a little sis Specty!” Aurora told the two-year old pegasi.
A few months later, Spectrum was waiting for his parents to come back; they went to the hospital so quickly that they didn't wish him their “good nights”. He couldn't wait and fell asleep with a loud yawn.
The next day he woke up in his bed, and his father, was waiting for him to make an appearance from out of his room, He took Spectrum to the hospital with him, and he was waiting with his father outside for quite some time.
The doctor finally called Huey with a bit of excite in his body language and the way he told his father the news in words that he could not yet comprehend.
“Stay here Spectrum, I’ll be back soon”
The adult physician took Spectrum inside the building, where he wouldn’t have to stand around in the sudden drops of light rain that soon came.
Half an hour passed when his father call him to come in.
He entered the room, and saw everypony in the room surrounding his mother, who lay weak in a sheet covered bed, holding what looked like a festive-like object at first. But, upon taking further steps that exhumed an unexpected delight, it had been instead been defined as a creature with multicolored hair.
“Come closer Spectrum”. Suddenly, he felt a little, uneasy, and the feeling only gradually increased.
Meet your sister, Rainbow Dash.”
Later, Spectrum and his parents returned home, including the new member of the family, Rainbow Dash.
She had been the talk of the town ever since the party left the hospital; capturing everypony’s attention. The entire neighborhood was talking about this new colored filly--there is only a Twenty percent chance of birthing a rainbow manned child, so the commotion that was obvious, even to his parents, was entirely understandable.
Accompanying this regional excitement, there was but one exception to compromise it-
Spectrum himself.
Only a little while after the birth of the wonderful filly, his parents seemed to dwidle their time away from him and give it to Dash. It was almost as if he wasn’t there, even though the fact of the matter clearly provided his physical appearance.
Four years have passed already, and the couple continued to pay more attention to the Rainbow Dash. Spectrum had been feeling lonely for the longest time, it seemed to him. Ever since the couple had found him deep in some woods, he had the privilege of ignoring that exact emotion. But now it was going to linger for the longest time yet again.
Huey and Aurora soon enrolled the two into the Young Flyer’s School up in Cloudsdale; the only reason Spectrum was a part of their decision was because they trusted him to bring her back safely, every day. Everypony else’s main question concerned how it felt to be brother of a Rainbow Pegasus, and the crowd would literally swarm him in most situations.
“It doesn’t feel like anything.” he said. “You forget your reason for living and that’s that.” However, Spectrum only thought about improving his flying skills. He never truly meant what he said, and he also figured that other ponies could see him as a member of society again.
A day after his birthday, which was only a few days after his new goal to regain public appeal, his father called for his presence–
“Spectrum?” Huey started. “Come here, please. We need to talk”.
“I’m coming!” Spectrum replied in a rush before being called again; he later saw his parents waiting for him in his bedroom.
“So... I mean Spectrum, its really hard to tell you this, but your mother and I think you need to know.” Spectrum quickly shot them a concerned look.
“We’re not your parents, Spectrum. We found you some number years ago” Huey continued.
“.... Ok.... I think I kind of knew that. I’m not any kind of blue, and I’m not rainbow either. I don’t even look like you, but now I’m sure I don’t belong to this family, even as a visitor.” Spectrum responded with only a few tears on his face.
“There’s more, Spectrum. One thing me and Aurora—my wife, have been thinking, and it’s hard but it’s the only decision we could come up with.” At this point, the truth was coming at a closed course. Piercing, but somewhat blanketed.
“We… inscribe you to the boarding school. With your sister going too, we can’t afford you both.” Spectrum’s eyes widened dramatically.”
Tomorrow at the first hour I’ll take you there.” implied Huey, who was gesturing his direction to the door. The pair walked away from him, leaving him with his sudden fate and leaving the room. Spectrum was devastated; the simple fact that he couldn't stay in his home had him sunk to the depths of sadness and uncertainty. But deep inside of his conscience, he was happy too. Just because his life wasn't even close to as glorious as it was since Rainbow Dash was born didn’t mean that he shouldn't pursue a way to reclaim that glory.
And that glory was flying.
“Okay, I’ll make this a good change; just keep moving forward from now.” Spectrum thought with determination. The first things he did upon thinking on impulse was gather a few things, putting them aside from everything else by putting them in a bag and go to sleep.
“What a beautiful feel; the wind in my mane...” Suddenly a pegasi flew across Spectrum’s side. “Beat me in a race if you want to be friends with me!”
It was only a voice. A sort of muffled voice.
Spectrum opened his Emerald green eyes. It was just a dream... “Whoa...” he said to himself. “Weird.”
“So you are awake.” His father was seen across his bed, right next to his open bedroom door. “Come on let’s go”. The colorful stallion firmly ordered this of Spectrum.
“Where’s mom, I want to tell her bye.”
“We don’t have time for that.“
“I’m not going if I can at least say good bye to my sis too!”
“Make it quick.” Spectrum silently hastened his path to little Dashie’s room and saw that she was asleep.
It was literally morning, at its finest first rays of sunshine highlighting her beautiful face.
“Goodbye little sis. I hope I get see you again someday.” Spectrum wasn’t expecting tears to pile up under his eyes. “I’ll remember that mane everywhere so I’ll definitely remember you. Maybe...you could remember me as your brother and-“
“Enough.” ordered the stallion with a rude essence in his voice. “Let’s go.”
“Well we are here...” Spectrum mourned with a sad tone. He had low spirits ever since he had been told of his fate, and even with the resolve he had created, his conditions now made that goal difficult.
“I’m really sorry son. Trust me; I would have this outcome be different if times weren’t so hard right now.” Spectrum swore he saw a single tear expel from each of Huey’s eyes.
“I’ll miss you, I really will.” With those last essential three words, Huey left the little colt inside the entrance to the School.
“I’ll miss you too...dad.” Now, Spectrum was even more than alone.
He had been abandoned twice, left for dead twice. Spectrum’s mentality insisted that the world had shunned him from existence; to forever remain a wandering soul in search of a body, and a place he can call home. But most of all, Spectrum wanted, more than anything, the acceptance of other ponies. He had it in his grasp for a few years, true, but it had just now been taken away from him.
Soon after pondering this, Spectrum succumbed to his urge to sleep. He curled into a ball and fell into a well deserved slumber.
