Son of the Moon: Heart's Warming

Canterlot City
A light layer of snow like any winter was covering the city of Canterlot with ponies of all races preparing for the final adjustments for Hearts Warming Eve, the streets were still bustling with people who were making their final preparations for the winter holydays. It was the same in the case for Princess Celestia’s personal students who on that day decided to go out on a walk in the city to enjoy the time.
“It always brings a smile when you see ponies preparing for the Heart Warming Eve.” Harry said with a smile while watching all the activity that was happening.
“Indeed it is, my parents were also happy when they met you. They were very happy for the fact that I now got a friend, but it was even better when they met you personally.”
“I know and to tell the truth I was also glad that they didn’t start to treat me like, heh you-know-what.” Harry said, despite nearly 2 years passing since he was announced to a crowd to be a Prince of Equestria he didn’t yet got used much to the idea, also neither did he got used to the spot light.
“I didn’t even tell them that, not to mention the fact that you always try to avoid the spot light.” Twilight said with a chuckle.
“Hehe I know that. I just don’t think to be necessary to boast around all the time about the fact that I am part of the royalty, brings jealousy and animosity.”
“And that is the reason ponies like you, you never boast around and this brings you a lot of appreciation from others.” She said looking with sympathy to him.
“If only my mother would know that I am here.” He said with a sense of sadness in his voice.
“You think about her sometimes, don’t you?” Twilight asked.
“It is indeed, it is off and ironic since I don’t even know her. But even with that with what aunt Celestia told me about her and also read I can’t help but miss her.” He said looking to the falling snow from the sky before feeling a hoof on his shoulder.
“I am sure she would be proud of you, no matter what you are kind, responsible, intelligent and would always help others. Those I believe are qualities of a true prince.” Twilight said with an encouraging smile which he smiled back.
“Thanks Twilight.” Harry said as they walked on reaching the front of the Canterlot orphanage where several ponies had gathered, the green unicorn looked at the event before going in to ask a white coated unicorn nobles that was present.
“Excuse me, what is going on?” Harry asked.
“It is a charity gathering; we are donating for the Canterlot orphanage. You should do the same if you want.” He replied in a respectable manner.
“I wish first to know had been given already to the orphanage?”
“Up until now, money for maintenance and food.”
“What about toys for the foals?”
“That I don’t know, you should talk wither with the organizer or the administrator, they are upfront.”
“Thank you.” Harry replied respectfully taking out his personal purse with bite coins along with Twilight and waited till they reached the table set where the organizer a grey unicorn stallion was, besides a female brown earth pony.
“Thank you all for your donations. They are really appreciated.” Said the mare with a smile before Harry and Twilight had arrived.
“Good day, how are donations coming?” Harry said levitating some coins in the donation box.
“They are coming quite in good number if you are interested to know. We got enough money to take care of all the foals and for their education.” Said the stallion with a smile.
“Wonderful, I wish to ask however if they would need something more to put a smile on them for Heart Warming Eve?”
“Up until now everything is going quite well, but if you are curious we might have need for new toys. Some of them are old.”
“And what kind of toys could they require?”
“Well it would be great for every pony to receive a new plush toy most of them are old and some do require them.” Explained the mare.
“I see, thank you.” Harry said giving half his money before leaving with Twilight.
“I have an idea on how to help them.”
“And what do you intend to do?”
“I know personally how it is to not have parents and I wish for them to at least receive a toy for the Hearts Warming Eve. As it happens been a prince it gives some advantages which one can use.” He said with a smirk and Twilight knowing what he was intending to do could only agree.
24 December 997 PNMM
Canterlot Royal Palace
Princess Celestia was going through the last check regarding the decorations for the Hearts Warming Eve celebrations by all accounts she was very proud of everypony for their part taken regarding the celebration and the court. And she wasn’t alone, she was helped by her niece Princess Cadence.
“Those are between the most enjoyable activities when preparing for the holydays.” She said to her.
“Can’t deny this auntie, they are always bringing a smile.” Cadence said just when the royal secretary came in.
“Excuse me Your Highnesses but there is something that needs to address and I believe it would be a bit off for you.”
“What happened?” Celestia asked.
“Your nephew had oddly used a lot of his allowance money just yesterday I just came across his finances.” He reported making Celestia a bit annoyed especially that she knew who might have spent this much.
“Oh I see, I shall take action regarding this fact.”
“And yet it is very off since Prince Harry is not a great spender. He never throws money away.” Said the secretary confusing the Princess of the Sun.
“How exactly could this be?”
“Even I don’t know, yet numbers don’t lie not even Blueblood spent this much. It is very new if you ask me.” He explained which indeed was a surprise although Cadence knew that her cousin wouldn’t do something like this unless it would be something serious.
“Where is he?” Cadence asked.
“I heard he just left outside the palace with Miss Sparkle.” He explained.
“We shall go and find them to see what is going on.” Celestia said leaving the throne room with Cadence and then outside the Royal Palace before the 2 alicorns took flight to search the city for them. Searching the city would have been bit difficult if it wasn’t for the tacking spell Celestia had used to track him and find him fast amidst the crowds of ponies. They landed just across the street from where they were and Celestia could do nothing but be surprised by what she saw her nephew alongside her student were talking with the administrator of the Canterlot Orphanage after carrying a large bag that contained new toys who were given to the young foals till the last one foal received a toy while the little that remained bag was given to the administrator. Cadence could only feel her heart melting seeing all the little foals smiling for the toys they had received.
“We thank you a lot for this donation this will be remembered by all the foals here.” Said the earth pony administrator.
“It’s a gift from the Princess and the Princes of Equestria they considered necessary for every little pony to smile and have a happy Hearts Warming Eve.” Twilight said.
“I believe that, they have our thanks, we will also receive parents who intend on adopting some of them.” Said the organizer.
“I believe that some foals will get even more surprises this for Hearts Warming Eve, even if some would come later.” Said the administrator with a smile, looking at the children along with Twilight and Harry.
“Even if it will be late it shall be worth it.” Harry said with a smile before he and Twilight started to trot away smiling and proud for what they had done, and they weren’t the only ones at that moment who were looking with pride at them smiling. Later that evening after the day was concluded everyone was ready to turn in for bed however when Harry came into his room he saw something in his bed under the blanket.
“What is this?” He asked himself removing the blanket to reveal a small alicorn plush toy that was dark blue and had a cutie mark crescent it was in essence a figure of his mother, on seeing it he got confused at the sight of it, he didn’t knew who could have left it. He didn’t knew that his aunt was behind him.
“You had missed one when you and Twilight were donating to Orphanage. I believe you already know that it is like an image for your mother.” She said with a warm smile, startling him.
“Aunt Celestia, how did you know what me and Twilight were doing?”
“The secretary told me of your sudden high spending of your allowance, which despite been big you weren’t usually giving so much of it. And I also searched the city to see what all was about.”
“Maybe I should have told you what I intended to do.” Harry commented.
“No, no on the contrary, you did a wonderful thing. When me and Cadence saw what you 2 were doing it was in the spirit of Hearts Warming Eve you 2 should be proud of yourselves for doing something like this.” Celestia said nuzzling him.
“I did this because I know how it is to not have a family near you. And I believed that the little foals at the orphanage should at least have a smile for this holyday until they will get a family who would take care and love them. The same way you do.” Harry said.
“I know that, I know, and to tell you the truth your action is the action of a true prince. Your mother will be very proud of you as all of us are right now.” Celestia said before Cadence and Twilight came in with her own plushy Smarty Pants.
“You did a wonderful thing Harry.” Cadence said while each other embraced one another. By all accounts this holyday was between the most successful, for the young prince of Equestria this day, seemed between the most fulfilling, since in his heart he felt like his mother was with there, thanks to the present given to him by his aunt and cousin. With all intents and purposes he just made her and the others proud by his actions.
