Clan: Adventures In Another World
chapter 4
Previous ChapterSparky whimpered as he continued to pull the blanket over his father. The little dragon had not calmed down at all since they got back to town. Hitch was still out of it. His body was currently in recovery mode. Whenever someone used up all their magic their bodies would go into a hibernation state known as recovery mode. It didn't matter if they were in the middle of a fight or halfway back home. Whenever a warrior was at their limit; they would be going down.
Sparky whined as he nuzzled his father neck. The little guy was trying to get his father to wake up. He gasped as he heard the door to their room open. Immediately, he moved his tiny body in front of his fathers face. He gave a small growl at Goose.
Goose chuckled a little while saying. “Easy, killer. I'm just checking in on both of you.” He saw the a baby glaring at him; while he did a quick scan of Hitch's stats. Hitch had most of his magic restored. But, he was probably gonna be out of it for the remainder of the night. He heard the little dragon whimper again as he covered more of his father with the blanket.
Goose shook his head before walking out of the room and back into the main area. As he stepped to the table he heard the front door open. He looked and saw Jack walking in. He noticed the scowl on his face and the small bag of Galleons in his hand.
Goose sighed before asking, “Fee?”
Jack answered, “Fee.” He sighed heavily before commenting, “We still need four more members.”
Goose nodded his head; he knew what Jack was talking about. For, awhile it had only been just the two of them. Just two clanless hunters. It was good for them since they learned how each other fought. But, there was a downside to this. The fees the clan masters had put up. They said it was a incentive to make others join clans. A way that would discourage any solo hunters. But, in reality, it was just a way to bleed hunters dry. The only way to avoid the fee was to join a clan. Or, you go through the process of making your own clan. A process that was very difficult.
Jack pitched the idea to Goose a short time after they started working as hunters. It sounded good. Both of them recruit six more members. Then, they start accepting any quest they could get. Each member raises their rank and skills. Then, the clan slowly works it's way to the highest rank. All of that was easier said than done. Recruiting was next to impossible. Many hunters usually wanted to join clans that were already started. That, or they were already part of a clan and had no intentions on leaving. They were lucky that Hitch and Sparky joined their group.
Goose sighed as he muttered under his breath. “More, like, Hitch and Sparky got tricked.” He glared at Jack for a moment. Yes, he agreed to giving Hitch the datapad. But, he had no idea that Jack had doubled it. Doubling, the act of having a parent and child joining a clan. It was a sneaky, underhanded, method of recruiting. Doubling isn't illegal. It's just really, really, really looked down upon.
Goose spoke to Jack. “You know if word gets out that you doubled our new recruit.”
Jack replied before he could finish. “It will hurt our rep.” He turned and faced him. “I know. I don't care.” He saw the annoyed look Goose was giving him. He groaned in slight irritation before walking over to the table and sitting down across from Goose. He continued talking. “Goose, Hitch has got to be the greatest thing to happen to this clan. He's a Beast Tamer for crying out loud. A Beast Tamer!” He asked him. “Don't you remember? Only one clan has the only two known Beast Tamers'.”
Goose nodded and sighed heavily. The only clan that had them was the largest and strongest one. The Gnorts Clan. He looked at the room Hitch and Sparky were in. If that Clan had heard about Hitch. They would stop at nothing to make him theirs. On top of that; they didn't allow children in their clan. That meant they would do something worse than Doubling. They would wipe his memory and then dump Sparky in an orphanage. He sighed again while resting his head on the table.
Goose spoke. “We gotta find others.”
Jack. “I know.”
The sound of a door opening caused both of them to become alert. They looked towards the sound and saw Hitch slowly walking out of his room. Sparky whined in worry as he gently pulled on his fathers tail.
Hitch spoke in a tired voice. “Hey, guys.”
Goose chuckled before getting up and walking closer to him. Sparky saw him approach his father and immediately got in between them. He growled in a threatening manner. Goose could only chuckle at the little dragon. The hatchling was protective. But, he wasn't ready for any battle yet.
Goose looked at Hitch and asked. “How you feeling Hitch?”
Sparky growled again only to whimper in worry as he felt his father pick him up. He turned to look at his father. He saw a gentle and loving look on his face. He whimpered again before he hugged his fathers neck. He felt him hug him back.
Hitch spoke. “Goose?”
Goose replied. “Yeah?”
He continued. “Where was that restaurant again? I could use one of those sandwiches again.”
Goose chuckled before opening the item box and selecting the food in question. He made the right call going by there earlier. And, it looked like Hitch was starting to understand everyone's drawback. Magic makes you hungry.
Jack smiled at the three before looking down at the table. They had four members in their clan now. At least they were half way there.
