Hero of Magic
Chapter 5: Covenant
Previous ChapterTwilight was nervous, this was her first time in the field. Her modified Mjolnir MK IV was difficult to get used to. John looked at her through his visor “Struggling with the armour.”
Twilight frowned looking over her dark purple armour with blue visor “Partially, but also this is my first field mission.”
John nodded, “It will be fine.”
Sam looked at him “So we’re doing this?”
Kelly nudged him, “Of course we are.” The four of them turned to the exit of their transport, a Pelican. It opened as the four of them, each carrying a warhead dove toward the enemy ship, the Unrelenting. They used their thrusters to board the damaged ship.
Twilight frowned as they looked at the damage, “That MAC (Magnetic Accelerator Cannon) did it’s job well. Let’s follow it up.”
The four of them pressed onward, John held a MA37 assault rifle, Sam BR85HB Battle Rifle, Kelly and Twilight both had M90 Shotguns. They fired their weapons at the Skirmishers that stood in their way.
Twilight frowned, “We can’t keep wasting ammo.” She pulled a grenade off her built and tossed destroying Skirmishers. Twilight found that point blank shotgun blasts were enough to deactivate the shields. During their charge through the ship tearing through Skirmishers, Sam’s suit was punctured by their plasma fire.
They made their way to the ship’s power source and placed the missiles around it. Sam looked at his fellow Spartans “I can’t escape, my suit has been compromised.”
Twilight shook her head “Nonsense, I’ll get him off here.” She then turned to John and Kelly placing a glowing hand on the former’s shoulder “If you can get back to the Pelican or the Commonwealth before those explode, the rest will be handled.”
John nodded “Alright, stay safe you two.”
John and Kelly escaped from the ship, Sam frowned “You could die here alongside me. Why risk it.”
Twilight raised an eyebrow “I can leave at any time but you’re a friend. I don’t leave friends behind because it is convenient.” The duo turned their attention back to the Skirmishers trying to deactivate the bombs. Twilight and Sam kept fighting until the timer hit zero, Twilight put her hand on Sam and they disappeared with a pop.
Twilight and Sam appeared next to a panting John and Kelly “I got this lug back here safe and sound.”
Dr Halsey glared at Twilight “You are our most important asset. We don’t have another like you, if you died out there our entire operation could be compromised.”
Twilight growled “I don’t leave allies behind, that’s not how I work. You better get used to it.”
Sunset manifested herself between them “Dr Halsey, Twilight is an Equestrian. Friendship was something that was of the core tenants of our society and she takes it very seriously. I was rather terrible at it, which made me a good killer of enemies. However, for someone to work in joint operations, caring for those beside you is important. Not every alien is going to want to punch you in the face.”
Dr Halsey frowned “Aren’t you meant to be on Reach?’
Sunset gave her a cheeky grin “I am, I can manifest in multiple places at once.”
A few months later, their squad was accompanied by another Spartan, Kurt. The team of five landed on the planet Alpha Corvi II. Their orders were to ignore the order of Ground Command and avoid contacting the local marines. Their landing was interrupted by fire from rebels. Kelly frowned, “We should just exterminate them.”
John shook his head “The Covenant is as big a threat to them as it is to us, if I can convince them we can work together.”
Twilight nodded “I would rather avoid bloodshed if possible, I’ve already spilt enough blood and I don’t like it.” John headed off to attempt diplomacy leaving the other four to wait there.
Sam frowned, “So we are working with the enemy?”
Twilight turned to him “They are not the enemy, not now. Your enemy one day may be your ally the next. A soldier needs to think bigger than themselves sometimes, is this the way to achieve the end goal in the most effective manner.”
It was not long before John had returned “We are going to work together. They will funnel the Covenant forces to us.”
Kurt frowned “You trust them?”
John shook his head as he sent up a drone “I’ll be keeping tabs on them.”
The team of five’s ambush alongside the rebels forced the Covenant into the mines. They were then informed that three more Covenant dropships were coming to their location. John crossed his arms “They had a strange device, I want to investigate and figure out what they were doing here.”
Whitaker, the leader of the rebels, walked over “The mines are a maze of tunnels with only one exit. We will cover you while you go in.”
The five member team moved in as a unit, Twilight found combat in the mines was tight and close quarters. During one particular engagement, she was pinned to the wall by an unusually strong elite. She grabbed something from the elite’s belt and cut him in half. She looked at what seemed to be a plasma blade of some form. Twilight took a deep breath as they pressed further into the mines.
While all this fighting was going on Sunset was co-ordinating evacuation events of civilians across the planet. With Covenant ships attacking across the planet, the evacuation ships couldn’t leave the planet.
Suddenly fighting broke out as Sunset felt a familiar energy pulse in space, she then heard a familiar voice echo “You need some assistance.”
Sunset grinned “Samur, I see the Makyr have changed since we last spoke.” A massive gilded warship that dwarfed the Covenant ships fired powerful weapons obliterating Covenant ships.
Samur grinned “With your aid we have recovered and we have strengthened ourselves. No more relying on others to do the fighting for us.” He then scowled “The Covenant, creations of the traitorous Forerunners who destroyed the Precursors. The Father wanted the universe to prosper and thus he worked to create the Precursors to do what he could not. Sadly their first creations destroyed that hope.”
Sunset frowned “I will talk to VEGA about this later. For now I will bail out the rebels while you defend this place.”
Meanwhile the Twilight and her friends emerged from the flooded mines only to see Covenant Forces bearing down on their Rebel Allies. That’s when they saw a Pelican dropship land, the pilot commanded them “Get on, Sunset is about to arrive and take care of them.” As the team of five left the planet, they saw a few Covenant ships explode before they left the planet.
