Smoke stacking high on the horizon
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
Black charred bones beneath our feet.
Wail. Scream. Beg. Bleat!
The equines fall, a failed retreat.
Unicorn horn, pony feather. Earth pony hide?
Turned to leather!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!

Craven eyes glued to the sky, against the blue they think we’ll fly.
But on our bellies, we crawl over the hill. Through the forest—
We find our kill!

Unicorns stand atop their towers, watching the horizon for many hours.
Towers of wood, thatch, and stick.
Burn them up, nice and quick!
Running with our wings folded back, we spear them, gut them, their entrails black.
Blackened hue of greenish bile, for our mercy they beguile.
But we dragons, we are strong! We see through the lying throng.
For when we step across their border…?
We shall not provide them quarter!

Magic arrows rain from above, guided by a mourning dove.
Through the chest of the weak they pierce, but we dragons?
We die fierce!
With our fire we bellow to the sky, burning the wings of pegasi.
Down they spiral, to the ground they go, hitting hard into death throes.
From their bodies, smoke billows…
Burning flesh, fresh on our nose!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!

Across the field, we see their town, arrogant ponies still milled around.
Buying goods and flowers and fruit, bits in hoof that we will loot.
Stupid ponies, were they deaf? Did they not hear the screams of death?
Screams and wails of a lung’s last air, glassy eyes, upward they stare.
A sound that curdles more than milk.
A gurgle burgled from their ilk.
A gurgle, wheeze, stridor, pop.
A gurgle with our spears we stop.
With our spears, below their face, we plunge them in an act of grace.
Tearing through the last survivor’s neck…
Over to the town we trek!
The lowly townsfolk, they are next!

Just as we step foot in town, only then their alarm does sound!
A sense of chaos springs abound, the townsfolk galloping all around.
The chaos wellspring spouts and flows. A thirst for blood begins to grow.
My young drakes, you want their meat, but do not put them between your teeth!
I don't care if you give them a rattle, but remember,
Ponies make good chattel!

Stay still my dragons, something isn’t right.
Where are all the guards to fight?
Was that it?
Just one squadron?
A rag tag group, barely fit for their pauldrons?
A rag tag group, slaughtered outside the town…
Where was the challenge to be found?
The town was now an eerie quiet. Quite the contrast to our riot.
I sent some scouts to look around, but there was no one to be found.
From the shops to the orchard, the townsfolk feared that they would be tortured.
So, instead, inside they hide. Each house a present, and they the prize.
But rounding them up is no easy task. We must plan on how to do it fast.
Come, my men, let us gather at the oak.
There we will plan to put them to the yoke.
Wait… but what is that I see?
A pony lives inside the tree?
Eh, no matter, follow me.
Soon we will begin our looting spree.
Soon we will… oh? Are those my wings? Have they been plucked right off of me?
…

Magic burns beneath our feet!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
The slow ones fall as we retreat!
Shooting needles of pure anger, as if launched from a troupe of rangers.
Tiny, glowing purple webs. They stick to our flesh causing it to bleb!
Acid raining from the sky—
All-mother’s mercy, we don’t want to die!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
Caustic balls pelt us like sleet!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
We scramble through the field of wheat!
Back across the field we run, fleeing with tails to the sun.
Through the field, then the sea of dead.
Our legs fueled by our dread.
But the corpses… they begin to twitch!
This is not a mage, she is a witch!
Clicking, clacking, popping joints. Gaping wounds from our spear points.
The fallen ponies and our brothers, their milky eyes cause us to shudder.
The ponies watch, but they stay back.
That wretched witch, she sends our dead to attack!
The bloodied corpses stumble to a stand.
They shamble towards us, nothing in hand.
But when they come close to us, they stop.
Their scales and skin begins to boil and pop!
Boiling, popping, fleshy nodes… I think can tell how this will bode.
Hit the ground, they’re going to explode!
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
Fragments of bone and earthen peat.
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat!
Ivory shards dig into our meat.
Somehow, some way, I survived.
I am determined to make it out alive.
On my belly, I crawl to the wood.
I pass by our camp where we boldly stood.
But, with our foolish pride, we burned down the countryside.
We burned the land from over and under.
We burned up all the forest cover.
The grass and bush were burned to ash.
And now I'll be found in a flash.
And in a flash, yes I was found.
A fizz-pop of magic—
“Turn around.”
Crunch. Boom. Snap. Heat.
My body is broken. This is defeat.

Today I return to the All-mother’s teat.
