In the 30th year of the 5th era, the Craviist nation came out of a bloody war for independence with a disease-ravaged people and land. No civilian authority could maintain order in the face of it, and so the Sanitarii regiments were born. Fighters specialized in culling anything from hordes of undead to administering aid to the sick. The 107th Khantaran Demons are one such regiment of Sanitarii, and of them, the best and worst are sent to Cheap Company, led by an incompetent and held together by that incompetent's executive officer.

In Equestria, the infection out of Everfree has ravaged the Northeast. The spread is out of control, and all hooves are being called upon to ensure the survival of any and all life. The Burn Teams are the latest line of defense: Royal Guard magii teams equipped with flame-retardant clothing, sanitation gear and the understanding that even one sick pony might bring the death of an entire town. Ruby Beacon and Field Surgeon (esquire) are the new commanders of one team, a nameless band of weary-faced veterans with little else going for themselves.

The world as it has been known is doomed, and with the light of their souls flickering, these men, women, mares and stallions will give it their all to see to it that they go down in a ball of all-consuming fire, or die trying.
