As you reach the elevator, you turn your head to the left and you swore that you caught the briefest glimpse of red and blonde hair rounding the corner where the stairwell was. As you reach out with a finger to press the button to call the elevator, you notice the sign taped to its door: Out Of Order.
You grumble under your breath and make your way to the stairwell. Fortunately your room is on the second floor, so you don't have that long of a climb.
You shove the keycard into the little slit on the door. The locks makes a little 'whir-click' and the little light above the keycard slit flashes green. You press down on the door handle and walk inside. The room isn't bad, in fact it's kinda nice. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, the carpet is a strange pattern of burgundy and green, and the bedspread is that bland pattern that comes with all major chain motels.
Of course back in the day when this was still called The Old Stable Inn, you and your buddies used to always talk about getting a room here, bring some girls and then do stuff with them, but none of you ever got up the courage to do so.
You chuckle to yourself at that memory as you place your suitcase of the luggage rack in the closet. "We were some stupid fucking kids. Even if we did bring a couple of girls back to the room, we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves." Of course that didn't stop a couple of the guys from lying about doing so. Even though you all knew they were lying and the name of the girl they supposedly brought to the room changed often, you all still cheered and whooped for their fake conquests because y'all were some dumbass kids.
As you walk over to the AC, the phone in your pocket rings. You pull it out and check the name and number. It's your ex-wife, Maggie.
Reluctantly you press the button. "Yes, Mags, what do you want?" You try to keep the vitriol out of your voice and fail.

"Look, if I've said it once, I've said it a million times. You remarried, that means legally I don't have to pay you any more alimony."

You step out of your car in front of a little dive bar called The Smashed Grape. At least this place hasn't changed.
Walking in to The Smashed Grape, the place still smells the same, like cheap beer, cheaper wine and rot gut whiskey. Somewhere someone probably is writing a country song about this place.
Behind the bar is Berry Punch. Wait...that can't be Berry, she was in her forties when you left. Must be her daughter, Ruby...something. Fuck, you can't remember her name. She was a couple of years behind you in school is all you can remember.
You walk up to the bar and can't help but note how much she looks like Berry Punch.
"What'll it be, sir."
You pause for a moment to think. "Do they still make Sweet Apple Special Reserve."
She nods and that's when you notice her nametag: Ruby Sentry. Was it always Ruby Sentry? "I'll take a bottle. And do you mind if I ask a dumb question?"
"If it's to ask me out, I'm a married woman."
You wave your hand in front of you. "No, no, no! Nothing like that. I think I used to go to school with you. What's your maiden name?"

A look of realization comes across Ruby's face. "Hoe. Lee. Shit! I used to have such a big crush on you back in school, but I never could get up the gumption to even say hi. You in town for the reunion tomorrow?"

Ruby reaches into the cooler behind the bar and pulls out a longneck bottle, filled with an amber liquid and a familiar label on the front. She places it on a coaster on the bar.
When you reach for your wallet, Ruby waves it off. "This one's on the house."
You twist the cap off the bottle and take a swig of the hard cider. The taste brings back memories of all the times you and your buddies got in trouble for stealing several of these longnecked bottles from your parents' or their parents' fridge. Good times, good times.
Ruby steps back to the swinging door behind the bar that leads to the kitchen. The small of deep fried bar food wafts into your nose. "Hey Flash!"
A familiar voice shouts from the kitchen, "Yeah?"

You've heard in the news that countries like Iran, North Korea and Sudan are considering coming to the negotiation table so they can get magical tech.
You take another swig of the bottle. "So...what's everyone been up to?"
Half an hour later, your wallet is several tens of dollars lighter, your belly is full of hard cider and greasy bar food. Your head is spinning from a combination of the stories of your friends and too much booze. "I gotta get back to my room." You stand up and wobble a couple of times.
"I gotcha, buddy." Flash walks around the bar. "Where you staying?"
"You know where The Old Stable Inn used to be, but now it's a Red Roof Inn?"
An indeterminate amount of time later you and Flash are standing outside your motel room door. "This is me."
Flash spins your car keys by the ring on his finger. "Your car's parked in the lot. You get some rest and I'll call you in the morning to get your keys back to ya."
"How're ya getting back to the bar?" You sound so pathetic right now, but for the life of you, you can't stop yourself from sounding like that.
Flash slaps you on the shoulder. "I'll catch a cab. Good catching up with ya Arnold, now get some sleep."
As Flash walks away, you lean up against the door, pressing your face against the cool wood while you wait for the world to stop spinning just a little bit.
"Sir? Are you okay?", a familiar voice speaks from behind you.
"Huh?" You lift your head to look in the direction of the familiar voice. That red and blonde hair that looks a little like bacon, those teal eyes, that amber skin. "Well, standing out here won't help it. My room's a few doors down the hall."

Now you're a pony, which isn't all bad. Apparently you have wings and are called a pegasus, one of three pony races...subspecies?...tribes? But hey, your wings are close enough to hands that you can still do what you used to do with hands.
It's great that your wife is as insanely hot as a pony as she was as a human. She's also the co-ruler of Equestria and an alicorn to boot. All-in-all, life's pretty good.
