Chapter One - Starting the Weekend
Night One
“Hooooo boy… Okay, settle down, settle down…”
Shining Armor had his eyes closed as he took a couple preparatory breaths, needing a moment after taking a glance out the window. He had tried his best to occupy his time and remain busy for most of the day, but the Prince still found himself waiting like an antsy child. He had no idea how badly his heart was racing until he caught a glimpse of the stallion from his high vantage point. Shining nearly stumbled down the stairs while struggling to maintain a casual pace, not wanting to appear too hasty to any of his Guards or staff.
“Whooooo…” He let out a long, calming exhale while trotting down the lengthy stairs, which was thankfully unseen by any of the Crystal Ponies. There may have been a slight blush on Shining Armor’s cheeks, but that wasn’t too suspicious considering the expected guest. Even though it was fairly late in the day, almost close to evening, a couple of Shining’s personal Guards have just returned from the train station with his esteemed guest by their side. And just as he reached the bottom steps, Shining was smiling wide when he saw the main doors opening before him. “A-Alright then…”
Both Crystal Guards kept stern looks on their faces, but greeted their Prince with respectful bows when they entered the castle. Between them was an older unicorn stallion, whose blue coat and darker blue mane definitely shared similar hues to the pony before him. Shining smiled and rushed in, not giving the stallion a moment to speak before pulling him in for a tight hug. Neither of the Guards interfered, and just smiled happily when the older pony hugged Shining back.
“Ahhh, there’s my Highness! Heh heh~” Night Light, otherwise known as one of the “Royal Grandparents” to Princess Flurry Heart and the Patriarch of the Twilight family, was more than happy to give his Royal son a loving hug. Shining squeezed his Dad tight, ignoring his thoughts well enough to appreciate this moment as a genuine familial bond. After the two pulled back, Night smirked at his son and asked, “So, is Cadance doing well? I was kinda hoping to be greeted by her too~”
Shining sighed and rolled his eyes, still keeping a chipper smile when he replied, “Well, that was supposed to be the plan, but Flurry Heart kinda needed an ‘emergency cleanup,’ if you catch my drift.”
“Aaaaahhhh, gotcha.” Night Light gave a sympathetic shrug of his own. “Yeah, that sounds about right. I’ve lost count of how many times you or Twilight had to make us improvise or change our schedules a bit…” As he reminisced, the stallion chuckled and shook his head with a smile. “Aaahhhh… Hard to believe how much Velvet and I would end up missing those things.”
“Well, that’s why we’re here, right?” After giving his Dad a loving nudge, he motioned back to his Guards so they could be dismissed. The Crystal Ponies bowed politely and made their leave, allowing the Prince to have some proper time with his Father. Shining led his Dad back towards the stairs, and they trotted up side-by-side without any interruption.
“So, I take it that Mom didn’t want to make the train ride?”
Night Light scoffed a little before shooting his son a look. “What, were you wanting her to come up for this?”
He caught the cheeky tone in his Dad’s voice, indicating what he should’ve already known before asking. That caused Shining to quickly wince and avert his eyes. “Uhhh… No, not really…”
“Hmph~ Honestly, I’m glad you said that.” Night Light gave another chuckle to himself when he caught his son’s embarrassed blush. “I mean, given what we have planned, it’d be really awkward if you did--”
“Yeah, I get that, Dad! Ugh…” Shining cringed a little and tried not to bite his lip. After a brief exhale through his nostrils, he looked back at him to clarify, “So, like… is she still cool about all of this?”
“Pbbt!” Night Light raised a brow. “You think I’d be here if she didn’t? This was all her idea, after all.”
“Yeah, but that was two weeks ago…” As they reached the top of the stairs, Shining looked around to make sure nopony was eavesdropping. Despite how isolated the two appeared in such a spacious ballroom, Shining made sure to lean in and speak in a more hushed tone. “And uhhh… I just wanted to make sure before enacting any spells first, y’know?”
“Oh, you haven’t done that yet?” Night Light seemed much less nervous than his son, and just smirked while keeping a casual tone of voice. “Well, hopefully they don’t need much of a waiting time before they’re confirmed effective. We only have this weekend, remember?”
“Oh, d-don’t worry! She already talked with Twily to make sure they worked properly…” As soon as he mentioned his sister’s name, Shining shuddered a little with a more uncomfortable look. “Ugh, that was an awkward talk when she visited…”
“Oh, don’t tell me you bought up the plans with her.” Night Light paused at the top of the steps to stare at his son. “How much did you actually say?”
“Don’t worry, Cadance was careful not to say too much. Although uhhh…” Shining’s face cringed a bit when he paused briefly. “... I’ll admit Twilight looked very happy when they finished talking, so I can only assume she knows Cadance’s part in all this.”
“Well, technically speaking, everypony will know that part soon enough…” Night Light followed his son as they walked towards a large, metallic elevator at the end of the hall. Two Guards were posted at the entrance, since it was meant for Royals and esteemed guests only (as well as any differently-abled individuals). Of course, the two just nodded when Night Light entered the elevator with Shining, not saying a word. The stallions remained silent until the doors were closed, and the elevator began to make its ascent to the higher floors. With the motors whirring above them, Night Light was able to lean in with a smirk and whisper into Shining’s ear, “What’s really important is that they don’t connect her with me~”
Shining Armor closed his eyes with a long, knowing sigh that came out as more of a whinny. Night Light chuckled when he pulled his head back, able to see how deeply his son’s blush became with that remark. After a couple seconds, Shining merely rolled his eyes and nodded begrudgingly. “Yeah… Yeah, I understand that point very well, Dad…”
Night Light took that moment to lean in and give Shining a supportive nuzzle from the side. That was enough to get Shining to smile a little, but it was clear that he was trying not to feel too flustered. When the elevator finally stopped, there were no Guards to greet the two on the private floor. All that was in front of them was the short, but lavish hallway which led straight to Shining and Cadance's private quarters.
Shining exited the elevator first, with Night Light following and looking around. “So, didn’t this used to be Sombra’s bedroom?”
“Ehh, more of a harem than anything else. It took us months to get the smell out during renovations.” Shining looked back at his Dad with a smirk and added, “Don’t worry though. The bed itself is not Sombra’s. The one that was here kinda… broke when we first moved in~”
“Oh, it broke?” Night Light tilted his head with a smirk of his own. “Heh~ Should I ask how it broke?”
“Well that depends: Do you want to hear about your son’s exploits?~” Shining was standing at the doorway by that point, and paused to give his Father a coy grin and a perk of his brows. It was obvious that Shining wanted to try and fluster him a little, but Night didn’t appear too perturbed. In fact, all that the older stallion did was huff and shrug his head playfully.
“Well, considering what we have planned for this weekend…” Before Shining Armor could turn the doorknob, a yellow aura of magic wrapped around it to keep the door shut. Shining glanced back at his Dad, who walked up closer behind his son with a more determined grin. He narrowed his eyes on Shining, and leaned in close to catch him off-guard. “Yes, Shining Armor. I do want to know~”
Shining reeled his head back a little, and grew wide-eyed in response to his Dad’s direct stare. The younger stallion couldn’t help gulping nervously, while his eyes darted back and forth a couple times. “Uhhh… heh heh heh… G-Good one, Dad…”
Night Light leaned back on his hind-legs, which allowed him to stand bipedally and tower over his son. He reached out with a foreleg to brace himself against the wall, and kept a devious smirk while looking down at Shining. The Prince blushed even more profusely, not expecting his Father to get in this close. The scent of his sweat was lingering faintly through his fur, which made Shining purse his lips and nearly tremble. “Mmmm… Uuhhhh…W-What are you--”
The doorknob clicked audibly, interrupting the two when they turned their heads. It seemed that the bedroom was already occupied, and was just unlocked by whomever was inside. Shining and Night looked back at each other for a moment, with the latter sighing and stepping back on all fours. Shining needed a second to breathe out, but he was still blushing hard by the time he turned around. “W-Well, uhhh… Seems like she’s already here! Heh heh…”
Shining opened the door, and smiled when he saw a familiar face waiting by the bed. Princess Cadance was lying on her side at the edge of the mattress, and made sure to remain in that position when the two stallions entered. Her smile widened upon seeing the two, and she lit up her horn so the door could be shut behind them. “Hello there, Shining Armor… Night Light~”
With the way she was staring at both stallions with such a sultry look, Night Light ended up blushing just as deeply as his son. The two dorkily averted their eyes and chuckled meekly, which was enough to make Cadance giggle with a hoof over her mouth. “Ohmigosh, you two look SO alike! It’s adorable~”
“C-Cadance, come on…” Shining tried to wave his hoof in dismissal, but he appeared much too sheepish to keep his wife from giggling. Night Light looked equally as flustered, but he was able to shrug his shoulders before speaking up.
“Well, hopefully that won’t make things too weird for either of you…” He looked back at Cadance with a more subdued smile, and lowered his head while blushing. “And ummm… Velvet and I are really, really thankful for you agreeing to this.”
“Well, of course I would be!” Cadance pulled herself out of bed, and walked right up to Night Light to give him a friendly hug. “And please don’t act all worried or embarrassed for my sake, alright? Shining and I already talked it all out, and we have no issues with doing this for you two.”
Night Light hugged her back, and was smiling graciously when they pulled apart. Cadance took that moment to lean back in and kiss Night Light on the cheek, which made him blush even deeper. Shining was blushing a bit too, and he had to look away while readjusting his hooves. Of course, his head perked up when he heard Cadance ask, “Isn’t that right, honey?”
“Oh! Uhhh… Y-Yeah, totally…” Despite his chipper response, Shining still looked nervous when he looked back at his Father and wife. Seeing the two side-by-side, the realization was enough to make Shining’s muzzle skew worriedly. Nevertheless, he quickly breathed out and tried to smile more naturally. “Heh~ Sorry, uhhh… this is still a lot to process.”
“Hey, how do you think I feel?” Night Light tried not to scoff while looking between the two ponies. “I mean, this is technically my first time too. At least, with somepony other than Velvet…”

Despite how weird this was for everypony involved, he knew that Night Light was likely more hesitant than either of them. Shining thought it over for a bit, and decided to ask, “So, did you or Mom talk about rules or anything? Like, I don’t want to break any boundaries or anything.”
“Hmph~ I think we’re already doing that, hon…” Cadance said that with a rather sly smirk, as well as a perk of her brows. Shining sighed and scratched the back of his mane, while Night Light looked away from her with a bashful smile of his own. The Princess made sure to add, “However, Shining does make a good point. Did Velvet mention anything that could be a ‘Hard-No’ for this weekend?”
“Actually, no.” He looked back at her with a surprised smile and shook his head. “In fact, she straight-up told me to do whatever it takes to make it happen. So, uhhhh… yeah~”
He smiled rather nervously, and tried not to look back at his son to see his reaction. The Prince winced a little from that revelation, but he could only shrug his head in silence. Meanwhile, Cadance responded with a chuckle of her own. “Well, I suppose that makes sense. If she’s not able to have foals anymore, I can’t blame her for wanting the best chances~”
“Well, I’m really grateful to hear that. Ummm…” Night Light paused and looked at both ponies with slight apprehension. After taking a deep breath, he decided to ask, “So, uhhh… How about you two? Do either of you have any… ‘Hard-Nos’ to bring up?”
Cadance and Shining glanced at one another, but didn’t say anything. Instead, the two gave each other a knowing look, with the Princess giving a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders. While she smirked faintly, her husband blushed a little and eventually breathed out. “Uhhh… I-I don’t think we do,” he couldn’t look back at his Dad while giving that answer, but he made sure Cadance could see the affirmative shake of his head. “Did… you have any, honey?”
“Nope!” Cadance was beaming proudly, and made sure to look back at Night Light to add, “As a Mother myself, I completely understand the importance of you and Velvet wanting another foal. And since you two made it very clear that artificial insemination is out of the question…”
She glanced back at Shining for a second, and saw him give a small nod in approval. She grinned much more confidently, and turned back to Night to add, “As your Daughter-In-law, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be a surrogate for you and Velvet~”
To prove her point, the Princess of Love leaned in without warning and grabbed hold of the stallion’s head. Night Light was trembling a little as he tried to stand upright, but that was easier said than done when he knew his own son was watching him. “Well, at least now we can move forward and make this work…” Cadance turned back towards her husband. “Honey? You have those spells practiced?”
“Y… Y-Yeah, I do…” Shining sighed with a shake of his head, and then stepped forward to continue with this arrangement. Before he could light up his horn, he muttered to himself, “That was a very awkward conversation with Twilight…”
He first went up to Cadance, and gave her one final kiss on the lips before illuminating his horn. Night Light stepped back a few steps, and watched as his son closed his eyes and lowered his head. Cadance took a step back as well, and held her breath as she stood with her eyes closed in preparation. Shining’s magenta-hued magic circled around his wife like a sphere, completely encasing her within the bubble for a second or two. However, that magic then quickly pulled inward on all sides, encasing around the Princess and disappearing through her fur. The last of the glowing magic could be seen just beneath her tail, before a sudden zap hit her nethers and made her gasp in shock.

Both stallions rushed in and helped her up, but Cadance’s knees were buckling hard as she struggled to stand upright.
