Velvet 2
Prologue
Load Full StoryNext ChapterWater sprayed over the guardrail of the vessel as the SS Carcinova sailed through the choppy waters of the Luna Bay. At the helm of the ship, a two-legged figure stoically stared ahead, his eyes gazing out over the horizon as if searching for something. Merely a few months had passed since his journey to the griffon kingdom to share his collection of knowledge with other species at Princess Twilight's behest, but for him, the time had passed in a blur.
Always one to dive headfirst into his work, Liam found himself utterly swamped with a workload that simply could not be shared with anyone else. The few ponies Twilight had sent alongside him had tried their best, but it was all to no avail. The subject matter was simply too dense and too specialized for any of them to grasp. Even now he could still recall the coversation with the Princess of all Equestria echoing in his head.

"Remember, Liam," Twilight explained, with a heavy sigh, "It is of the utmost importance that this meeting goes swimmingly. We've made great strides to lift all of our neighbors up but the griffons have been a bit stubborn as of late. I wish I could go with you but I have my own issues in Yakyakistan that need to be dealt with. I've even had to call in Pinkie Pie."
"Hey, it's no sweat, Twilight. I can do this." Liam confidently replied.
"Are you sure? It's an awful lot to ask of any creature... I know this will be the longest break in contact you and Star have had, but I wouldn't ask it of you unless it was absolutely necessary," Twilight offered.
"Are you trying to convince me? Or yourself?" Liam snarked.
Try as she might, Twilight couldn't help rolling her eyes at her human friend, playfully slugging him in the shoulder, "I'm serious! If this goes well, we'll have brought the griffons into the twelfth century! It would be the biggest boon for our relations with them in history! Friendship would be spread to the entire Eastern half of the continent! I... i-it's a lot to put on one creature and I just want you to understand the seriousness of the situation before you just agree and charge headfirst into it like you always do with these kinds of problems."
Liam placatingly held up his hands, "I promise that I can handle it. Besides, you said you're sending Rainbow and a few other ponies that have friends in Griffonstone over too. I'm not totally alone here," he reasoned.
"Well, Rainbow is more... moral support than anything else. Science isn't really her realm of expertise unless it's the science of flying fast." Twilight admitted, sheepishly.
Liam snickered. "Twilight, you've got nothing to worry about. I've got this," he declared, firmly.
~
That conversation was over three months ago but Liam could still remember every detail. Committing himself to his work was nothing new, and while it was certainly tough work, it was nothing if not rewarding. Before he could get too lost in his memories, however, the doorway opened and a pony walked in, her face tinged with a green tint as she fought off yet another bout of sea sickness.
"I dunno... h-how you do it... it's so miserable out here." She mumbled, taking a seat and propping her head up on her hooves.
"I'm more excited about where we're going than how we're getting there, Misty." Liam replied, coolly.
Misty glanced over at him through her turquoise locks of hair, "How did you manage to stay so cool under pressure this whole time? You basically carried that entire conference all by yourself and even managed to cover Rainbow getting into trouble." She pressed, desperately looking for anything to take her mind off of the sea sickness she felt.
Truth be told, she was intimidated by the human to a considerable degree. Whether it was his imposing size, or the diligent way he worked, his mind never seeming to stray from the task at hoof, she couldn't say. Perhaps it was the glint in his dark eyes and the way he carried himself like an admiral addressing his troops at all times. Regardless, she found herself desperate for conversation but unable to find anypony else to have it with. Naturally, they were either sea sick as well or dealing with the sea sick ponies down below.
Left with only one option: talking with the most imposing creature on the boat, she'd decided to take it. Much to her relief, Liam did not bite her head off or do something to hurt her as her easily frightened mind feared. Instead, he looked to her with a gentle kindness behind his eyes.
"Well, I just thought about all the ponies back home and along with me that I'd be letting down if I didn't keep it together. That's what kept me from having a panic attack every other night, at least," he chuckled.
Despite herself, Misty couldn't help the small chuckle that escaped her lips as well, "Hay, with what you did, I expect a full party to be thrown in your honor, planned by none other than Pinkie Pie herself." She offered.
"You think so?" Liam inquired.
"You're friends with the Princess, who's best friends with the most renowned party planner in Equestria, and you're coming home after a three month long journey to help a neighboring country purely as a favor for said princess... yeah, I think you're gonna get a party or several." Misty chuckled.
Liam smiled at the praise. It wasn't often that he felt bashful about something like kind words over his work, but something about the gentle reminder from one of his crew made the words hit home all the harder. Feeling a smile tugging at his lips, Liam gazed back out over the horizon, seeing the impressive waves as the ocean rolled and crashed around them. Were the seas any rougher, they might've even had to to postpone the return journey.
"I'll be home soon, Star... can't wait to see you again." Liam quietly muttered to himself, gently running his thumb over a small pennant containing a picture of the mare who stole his heart.

"That bucker has been gone for three months! Three months!" Morning Star groaned, pacing back and forth in the small dwelling she found herself in.
The hardwood floors creaked under her hooves as she paced back and forth, no shortage of expletives escaping her lips. The past few months of solitude were made all the worse by the fact that she'd been in heat for the past week and a half, the fiery icing on her cake of suffering.
"When he told me about it, sure I was supportive. How could I not be? Princess Twilight was asking him for a big favor and even if she wasn't a close friend to both of us, she's literally my boss. Even if I asked him not to go, he still would have." Star continued, rolling her eyes as she finally sat down on the couch in the modest living room.
A set of hoofsteps steadily approached, almost as if to indicate that her guest was indeed still listening to her plight.
"I know I'm being a bit selfish here... but three months! I haven't been this horny since graduating boot camp! I haven't had any action in months and this heat is just driving me insane," Star bemoaned, finally holding her head in her hooves.
As the sound of the hoofsteps came to a halt, Star glanced upwards, finding that her guest was now standing just a few steps in front of her.
"So, you want to get some action, then?" She asked, her voice sounding like a sultry purr.
Star quickly shook her head, "No. I want to get some payback, and I think you're just the mare for the job."
Star could hear the wide smile that broke out on the other mare's face as she thought of the possibilities she could enact. After just a moment of tense silence filling the air, a pair of piercing slitted green eyes lowered down to her level. A fanged grin smiled at her as the blackened chitin of her guest licked her chops, her long tongue practically wrapping around each fang in a show of dexterity and ability.
"Tell me then, what did you have in mind?" Chrysalis inquired, her wicked grin only growing wider by the second.
