Caramel sat in her office cubicle going over a case file, she was a small-time case worker and she covered mostly cheating spouses or an occasional meth ring. However, today she was sitting with a Las Pegasus detective.
Case offer
"Caramel I'm at my wit's end, we've covered every angle possible and frankly we've got nothing concrete."
"According to the evidence you've had blood tests run and found a lethal amount of cocaine and there were signs of a deal gone bad. The second body that was recovered at lacerations suggests suicide. I also read that huddled in a room off to the side your main witness had signs of being raped. I don't think there is anything I can do."
"Please Caramel take a look...I don't know why but the evidence and reports aren't sitting well for some reason."
"Fine, I just so happen to be free at the moment and if my boss gives the green light I'll take a look at the crime scene." Caramel found herself on the next flight to Las Pegasus and wondering if this could be her big break. Caramel didn't have a badge so people would be more willing to talk hopefully and she luckily had a license to carry a gun so she made sure to keep it loaded.
Crime Scene
After a five-hour flight, she was in Las Pegasus and Caramel was at the crime scene and nothing had been moved. The detective who talked to her, Detective Iron Shackle greeted her. "Here's all the information you'll need and me and the boys will leave it to you."
"Thanks, I will let you know if something turns up." Caramel began looking at the Intel in the folder that was given to her. Caramel was walking the crime scene when she noticed at her feet a small air vent. This vent had been camouflaged with strips of carpet. Caramel photographed it with her phone and lifted the vent. Inside was a scrap of paper and a burner phone. Beside these items was a hard drive. Carefully picking it up and with a pair of gloves, she pulled out her new cheap laptop and plugged the hard drive in.
"Detective Iron Shackle I found a burner phone and hard drive with a piece of paper with a burner phone come back to the crime scene. I'm checking the hard drive now." Caramel plugged in a USB hard drive of her own and copied the files. With the burner phone, Caramel dialed the phone number.
"Deputy Sprout, you're early I won't be able to push that next load of cocaine and marijuana this fast. Besides I have to help with this investigation you damned motherfuckers created." Caramel was scared now, if the sheriff's department had moles could Detective Iron Shackle be in on the action. "One other thing, Iron Shackle knows that the apartment is off. I heard him tell Hitch that he was going to get outside help. Wait a minute...who the fuck is this?" Caramel quickly hung up packed her stuff in her backpack and looked for an exit. The crime scene guards kicked the door open and fired their pistols at Caramel. Caramel drew her revolver and regretted not packing her semi-automatic instead. Caramel returned fire and while trying to reload a round tore through the desk backing and entered her side. with six more shots loaded, she stood up and managed to kill one guard and the other guard fired another shot into her left side just above the first shot. She fired her last shot before crumpling from the pain and seeing Iron Shackle shoot the guard in the back four times.
Hospital
Caramel told what she had found on the hard drive, Caramel copied all of the Word documents and pictures but left the videos. The videos were video recordings of the owner raping girls! The owner had a thing for cutting and other disgusting fetishes. Caramel never knew how perverted people could be. Caramel felt sick with those things still on her mind. Caramel felt forced to trust Iron Shackle about Deputy Sprout being dialed into the burner phone. "Look kid, I got you into this mess and I'm personally gonna guard you every night. You know enough that someone will want to kill you. Sprout might be a middleman. I'll let Twilight Sparkle know and her friends as well; in addition, I'll be letting Zipp and Pipp know too. Twilight, Zipp, and Pipp are royalty and they'll need protection now since they were the ones who recommended you to me. Yes kid, you're on their radar...your grades had set a target on your back because you're apparently a skilled cryptologist in your spare time. Speaking of Cryptology I have this piece of paper I found. The list of words is random and of course, is in the format it was typed on a computer we assumed it naturally capitalized the first letter of every line we don't think it means anything."
"You kept it because it could've been potentially a clue or piece of evidence."
The word list was as follows:
Kilometer
Indigo
Lina bean
Lute
Trampoline
Whiskey
Ice
Longboat
Iris
Gnome
Hotel
Tango
Caramel looked at the list and then at Iron Shackle, "This list in this format could pass as just a list but notice the format spells out a phrase. The phrase reads 'K.I.L.L - T.W.I.L.I.G.HT' Someone has ordered a hit and we need to move!" The window to Caramel's hospital room shattered and Iron Shackle fell over with a bullet hole in his head and blood and brain matter were everywhere. Caramel hit the floor. Caramel found Iron Shackle's phone and dialed the one name she recognized in the call history.
"Hey Moon Dancer it's me your old Cryptology Club comrade get Twilight Sparkle to safety and can't explain right now."
"You were on speaker and she heard you.....is someone shooting at you?" A bullet just missed Caramel's head and she bolted for the door only to get her left hip shot for the third time. "Yes! Iron Shackle had given me the word list and the killer knows."
"Twilight sent Zipp and Rainbow Dash to get you and Spitfire is roughly four minutes out. Get to the ground floor and survive." Caramel hung and used the fire exit to head to the ground floor. Gripping her revolver she was ready to start shooting. At this time Caramel missed her cubicle and small-time job. Caramel while studying to be a private investigator bragged about her dreams of making it big - now she didn't want it. Somewhere above her Caramel head a metallic sound of a door opening and then closing. a few steps later one door opened and then closed below her. Caramel silently screamed.
"Damn it!" She paused when she heard the person above her, "Hey Zipp I'm tracking a blood trail the sniper had left the rooftop, I'm hoping I'm tracking Caramel's blood. Iron Shackle couldn't be saved." A voice below Caramel responded, "Copy that Dashie!" Caramel saw a pink and blue mohawk just the next floor down and a name plate that read 'Zipp Storm'. Caramel lost consciousness and fell down the stairs. "Rainbow Dash I got Caramel now get the fuck down here so we can leave!" Zipp grabbed her phne and dialed a number.
"Hey Sunset bring the car around and keep out of sight we're coming out with the package. The trio soon were at the hospital receiving dock where a car was waiting for them. Caramel opened her eyes for a split second and saw a girl in a black leather jacket and reddish orange copper colored hair. Caramel thought to herself, 'This must be Sunset'. Caramel woke up in a room with medical equipment around her and a very displeased looking princess pacing around. Caramel recognized Celestia instantly and tried to stand but was pushed back down and then noticed Luna beside her.
"Steady there, you've must have learned something important enough to have somebody want to kill you. This is progress for this two week old case. At any rate we have been trying to figure out if the crime scene was a distraction or not because it's set up seemed to perfectly laid out - down to finding the rape victim. This attack confirms it and we'll need you to lay low."
"Pardon me your majesties, I'll keep working this case....but first I'll need a semi automatic pistol and a sub machine gun and if it's not too much trouble can I get my jacket lined with kevlar?"
"We'll make sure all your requests are met during your investigation." Caramel saw that beside Pipp was a sheriff who's badge had the name 'Hitch' inscribed into it. Caramel decided to withhold information until she can figure out who to trust.
