Chapters It was a normal day once again in Equestria, everything was going really fine around Ponyville, and the School of Friendship, most people were going about they're day just fine, nothing too big to talk about. There hasn't been any major problems recently that should be concerning.
As the camera pans into the sky, we see two familiar dragons flying through it, and trying to keep up with one another. And that was Spike and Smolder. They were currently flying through the skies and were trying to help Spike get a better hang of his wings which he recently had grown.
They flew down through the forest and were trying to avoid any oncoming tree that could harm them.
"Keep those wings bent Spike! Don't let the winds force you back!" Smolder advised as they were trying to avoid hitting anything in their way.
"Got it! I think I'm almost there!" Spike replied while he was spinning himself around some trees and he kept on flying through them to avoid being harmed.
Spike kept flying through the forest as fast as he could, making sure to avoid being hit by any obstacle coming his way, Smolder was flying right besides him, and she shot a few fire blasts at anything that almost harmed them.
"There! Let's stop at this pond for now Spike!" Smolder announced as there was a large pond in the forest that they could rest at. Spike quickly flew down next to her and they both landed on the ground swiftly, Spike sighed in relief and felt glad to be able to get the hang of his wings, it felt so great to finally be able to have them, and it felt so cool to use it.
"Man, that was really tiring, but it was also fun. Thanks for helping me learn to fly better Smolder, it's really great to be able to fly properly now." Spike said gratefully while he stretched them out a bit.
"No problem Spike, sure beats you repeatedly slamming into stuff like before right? All it takes is to keep them bent down, dragon wings and pony wings are different with how they work to fly. And this is dragon 101 for anyone who gets wings at this age." Smolder replied which made Spike chuckle a bit.
"Yeah, that's true, I couldn't even keep them closed properly before, at least I know how Twilight felt when she got hers." Spike replied as he sat down near the pond to think to himself.
Spike had a lot on his mind recently after he got his wings, despite how great it felt to finally have them, it just told him how much older he was getting. And yet, despite how much he's had thanks to Twilight and everyone else, there's still been a question he's had in his mind deep down, one that's been with him for a really long time..
Smolder took a closer look at Spike's expression, and she saw something was wrong with him, she's seen it before in her friends, and it's no different for him.
"Hey Spike, you doing alright?" Smolder asked while she sat down next to him near the pond.
"Yeah.. I'm fine, it's just.. to know that I've gone this far into my life by now, and finally growing wings. It's shown me just how long time has passed since I was hatched by Twilight, all we've been through together, and all she and the mane 6 have gone through, knowing how much time has passed, it makes me just think over things I.. haven't really talked about with the others before.." Spike admitted which was giving Smolder more concern.
"Really? What do you mean.. you were hatched by Twilight?" Smolder asked as she wasn't informed of this before which made Spike realize that suddenly, and how important that may be for her to know.
"Right.. you haven't been told it yet, to make things simple, I was hatched by Twilight when I was an egg, my egg was said to be found by Celestia somewhere by itself, the answer was never given. And she had Twilight try to find a way to hatch me, despite the circumstances of what she had, she was able to hatch me with her magic, and it's the reason I'm even here today.." Spike admitted which made Smolder have a look of surprise being told that.
"Wait.. your saying your egg was left alone? That.. that shouldn't be possible. No dragon abandons they're eggs like that, even if there's a reason, they shouldn't just leave it alone, if there were any problem that forced the parent to have to leave it, they'd at least give it to a proper dragon who could raise it when it hatches." Smolder pointed out with a bit of an upset look.
"Yeah.. but even if that were true.. to know I was left alone.. without proper reason.. it's.. a question I've had in my mind for so long.. and no matter how long I've questioned it, I've.. never properly known who my parents were.. even with being raised by Twilight.. I've.. always wondered who they were.." Spike answered with a sad look while he looked at his own reflection.
Smolder felt really bad to know that, despite her concerns on how Spike's egg was acquired still being in her mind, to know he went through almost his whole life up to this point, without ever meeting his mother or father, it really makes her wish there was any sign they could have to find them.
"I'm.. really sorry to hear that Spike, but to let you know, we all have it rough in our lives. Sometimes there's a question we won't have answered, but eventually, we just have to move on with our lives. Your a good dragon Spike, even when you were raised by Twilight, your one of the better dragons I've known next to my brother, and let me tell you, there aren't that many kind dragons out there when I lived in the Dragon Lands." Smolder assured while they both kicked back to think over this.
"Thanks Smolder, it's just hard to accept the fact I've never known my mother, or father. I don't even know if they really even loved me.. and if they didn't.. why did they even have me? Is there.. something wrong with me Smolder?" Spike asked while he looked at himself.
"Don't think about yourself like that, there's nothing wrong with you. While you may be short and weak to some dragons, to me, your a kind person who looks out for others. I'm sure if your parents ever met you, they'd be glad to have you as their son, even if they had a reason to leave you alone." Smolder assured while she patted Spike's shoulder.
Spike sighed sadly hearing that, and knew that despite all he's questioned about himself, sometimes it's best he should just move on from it.
"Your right, I think I was just overthinking things.." Spike thanked while Smolder was starting to stand back up.
"It's alright Spike, I'm sure things will get better though. You ready to head back to Twilight's now? I'm sure she's eager to know what you've learned with flying by now?" Smolder asked which was probably true.
"Yeah, that sounds good, let's get going then.." Spike replied as he was getting up too and they were about to head back.
But just before the two of them could leave, they suddenly heard a loud roar that could be heard through the whole forest, they could see some birds flying away from a certain spot with fear, and that was something that scared them both.
"W.. what was that?!" Spike asked with fear on what that sound was.
"I don't know, but it may be trouble, we should check it out Spike!" Smolder quickly replied while she was already flying to where the sound came from.
"Wait! Hold on! Shouldn't we get Twilight and the others? This could be dangerous!" Spike warned while he was trying to keep up with her.
"I know, but that's why we should see what it is at least, let's just stay close to eachother, and make sure not to be spotted by this thing, alright?" Smolder asked which made Spike gulp in fear from hearing it.
"Okay then.." Spike said nervously as they flew closer to where they heard the loud roar just a few seconds ago.
Spike and Smolder flew through the forest as quickly as they could, that roar came from just a couple miles away, and they could see it lead to a large open area in the forest too, Spike and Smolder quickly landed in the trees, trying to hide themselves from what made that sound.
Smolder made a quiet gesture with her claws, and Spike quietly nodded back in response. They both turned to peak through the leaves to see what that sound was, and to their shock, they found an entire pack of Timberwolves down in the middle of an open area, there was over 20 of them, and they were all down and badly beaten up.
"Whoa.. what happened here?" Spike whispered to Smolder who didn't know how to respond.
"I don't know.. but whoever did this.. they're strong.." Smolder whispered back while they kept hiding the best they could.
But as they tried to hide, they could hear another roar come from just nearby, as well as the sound of heavy footsteps, Spike and Smolder both gulped and made sure they wouldn't be seen by whatever this creature was. And as the steps got heavier and shook the ground, they suddenly saw another Timberwolf be thrown out of the darkness extremely roughly, it was so fast, it was able to hit the very tree they were hiding in, and the impact was rough enough to make them lose they're balance.
"Oh man!" Spike screamed as they both fell down on the ground after the tree collapsed from the impact.
Both of them groaned while they tried getting back up, but they quickly regained focus once they saw another Timberwolf right next to them, but thankfully this one was beaten down just like all the others. And they were concerned on what caused this.
"W.. what happened to these guys?" Spike asked with worry for what's happened to them.
"I don't know.. but I have a feeling we're about to find out.." Smolder said nervously as they could hear heavy footsteps coming from the bushes.
They both got closer together and kept they're guard up for whatever's coming out of them. But as the footsteps were slowing down, they could finally see what was coming out, but to their surprise.. the creature that took all these Timberwolves down wasn't that scary as they thought it was. While this figure was wearing a hood to hide it's face, it was pretty tall and looked slender, yet showed a good amount of muscle under it, the figure was almost as tall as Celestia. But what they did notice about this creature, is that it looked like.. a dragon..
"Um.. who.. who are you?" Smolder asked the figure who didn't notice them yet, it was so busy with those Timberwolves, it probably didn't realize it may have caught the attention of others.
The figure looked a bit surprised seeing two other dragons here, and it began to spoke in a soft tone while it calmed down.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to cause a huge ruckus here, I was just.. going somewhere to find something important to me, those creatures ambushed me when I was minding my own business, and they needed to be taught a lesson for it.." The figure said with a growl, but what was weird, is that the voice sounded female.. and there was something about her to Spike, that felt.. familiar?
Spike and Smolder looked at eachother with surprise hearing this from her, even though they don't know who this person is, if she has a reason to be here, maybe they can find out why.
"It's.. alright I guess, we can understand it, these guys can be a lot of trouble when in packs, but.. how did you manage to fight them all off like that?" Smolder asked with surprise for her skill.
The figure only scoffed a bit and pushed aside the wolves while she walked to them, clearly not bothered by the amount there were.
"I've had many years to train myself up after an.. incident happened so long ago. I barely broke a sweat when fighting all these things, and even if there were 50 of them, I wouldn't have much trouble with them at all." The figure said with a prideful tone.
This did confuse Spike a bit since it isn't normal for any dragon to just come here, even with her wearing a hood that they covers her body, with the features they see like the long tail, and wings on her back, it's easy for them to tell. But why this person was here is the real question he wanted to ask.
"Um.. alright then.. but.. why are you here? I don't think most dragons can come here without a specific reason, is there something your looking for?" Spike asked which got the figure to turn to him.
"Yes, it's for something.. very.. important..." She said right before she noticed something familiar about Spike. The figure suddenly had a look of shock the closer she looked at him, and the more she stayed silent, the more concerned Spike and Smolder were getting.
"Um.. Ma'am? Are you.. alright?" Smolder asked as the figure wasn't saying anything, she was in complete shock of seeing Spike, there was a special reason she came here searching for him, and to know he's really here and.. almost fully grown shook her heart..
"Is it.. really you..?" The figure asked with shock which confused Spike hearing it.
"Uh.. I don't really know.. have we.. met before?" Spike asked in a confused tone which made her remember something important.
"Right.. you wouldn't recognize me.. you were only.. an egg when I last had you..." The figure said softly which surprised them both to even be told that.
"W.. what do you mean by that? How.. would you even know what my egg looked.. like..." Spike asked before they both realized something important, something that could be the only reason she would be able to know that.
"No way.. are.. you?" Smolder asked while pointing at her a bit, the figure sighed softly and knew what she had to do, and with that one sentence, the figure slowly went to her hood and pulled it up for them to see her fully, and when they did, they both gasped with huge shock seeing her full looks.
She looked almost exactly like Spike with her appearance, she had a much darker shade of purple scales, a sharp light green spine and underbelly, she had clear battle scars from former fights she's gotten into, and she had emerald green eyes that were exactly like Spike's. Spike and Smolder were in complete shock of seeing her, because after all this time.. Spike's finally met her..
"Are.. Are you... my.." Spike asked as he couldn't even finish that question. The dragon only looked down at him with tears seeing him fully, they looked exactly alike, it was clear as day, she looked so sad, yet so happy seeing him after who knows how long. She only came down to her knees and looked at Spike even closer, trying to make sure this is real, and not a dream.
"It.. really is you.. my.. my precious.. child..." She said with tears before she suddenly grabbed him and pulled him to her chest so she could hug him tightly. She held him so tightly to the point she didn't wanna let go of him, she was crying heavily over finally being able to find what she's lost for so long, even Spike was in tears seeing this, after all this time.. his.. mother is still alive..
"It's.. really you.. your.. my mother?" Spike asked with a look of hope while she looked down at him and was taking in every second of this moment she had.
"Yes.. it's really me my child.. I'm your mother.. I know your my child.. I can feel it.." She answered with pure honesty which made Spike only cry even more from it.
"It's.. really you.. mother.. your really here.." Spike said with both sadness, and joy from finally being able to meet her, even if they don't know fully about how she lost Spike's egg in the first place, a simple answer like this, to know if she's even alive it all, it gave Spike such joy and relief he hasn't felt for so long..
Smolder had stepped aside to let the two of them process this, even she couldn't hold back some tears to see this, she hasn't felt proper affection from her real parents in a long time, since she got her wings, she was mainly on her own with her brother to be the only one to support him. But here, seeing how much Spike's mother really does still care for him even after this, it made her feel so relieved to know she's still alive, and was searching for him after all.
After a few more minutes of hugging, Spike was finally let go a little and was put down, the dragon looked so happy to finally have found him again, and she was taking heavy breaths from all of this happening so fast.
"M.. mother.. may I ask.. what's your name?" Spike asked hoping to know what she was called.
"Of course my.. son.. my name is.. Crystal, and I can't believe I've finally found you.. my little Emerald..." Crystal introduced while she was still crying from seeing him in front of her.
"Emerald.. was that meant to be.. my birth name..?" Spike asked curious if that was the case.
"Yes.. it was something your... father suggested to me when we had you.. and it was the best name he could've come up with.." Crystal said with a wholesome look which only made Spike cry a bit more hearing that.
"If.. that's the case.. what.. happened to my father.. why did I.. end up alone?" Spike asked with hope there was a good reason for it. But Crystal was starting to look really tired after being asked that, she must've had a lack of sleep when trying to search for him.
"Your father.. oh my sweet child.. I'm so sorry.. he's.. he's... gone..." Crystal said with tears before she suddenly passed out from all she had to process. This surprised them both and they quickly went to check on her to see if she's okay.
"Mother? Are you alright?! Please answer me!" Spike begged while she tried waking her up, but she was out cold from passing out, and it may have been from the huge fight she had to handle just a few moments ago.
"Hey easy there Spike, she probably was tired from all the traveling, and fighting she just had to do. She probably just needs some rest.." Smolder assured while Spike was breathing heavily over what he's just processed.
"What.. what did she mean when she said my father was.. gone? Is there.. really a good reason for why I was left alone? What.. happened with her?" Spike asked with tears while he tried helping her again, Smolder sighed sadly hearing that, despite how much she wanted answers too, this.. Crystal was really exhausted, and they need to help her recover in order to get answers.
"I don't know, but I'm sure what she's said with finding you, I think it's a good reason. But she needs help recovering, let's take her back to Twilight's and get the others, I'm sure we all would like to know what exactly happened with you." Smolder suggested which Spike thought was a good idea, she clearly needs help after all she's had to do to find him.
"Right.. come on.. let's get her back home, think you can help me with carrying her back?" Spike asked while he tried picking up Crystal's body, she was really heavy with how large she was, and it didn't help with how small Spike was right now.
"No problem Spike, come on, let's get her back to the castle, I'm sure it'll be better once we know the full story from her." Smolder assured while she picked up her body too, it was easier to carry her together, and they both raised they're wings and tried carrying her back to Twilight's castle without dropping her.
"I really hope so Smolder..." Spike prayed as he looked at his mother one more time, she looked really beautiful when he looks at her, she seems to have a lot of interesting stuff to her, and hopefully soon, Spike and everyone else will know why Spike really was left alone when he was an egg..
Author's Note
Hey guys thanks for reading this! So starts my next Spike meets his mother story, Mother Knows Beast. This story will basically be an improvement over the episode Father Knows Beast. An episode I think we all can agree was awful with how it was a huge lie to a question we've had for so long. It's my most hated episode in the show for me, and I hope that with this story, we all can see what could've been if this episode was about Spike meeting his mother and what he could go through after it. I'll have characters like Smolder and Ember be more involved in future chapters, I hope you all liked what I did here, and look forward to more of it in the future!
After Spike and Smolder had this run in what could be Spike's long lost mom, they headed back to Twilight's castle quickly to help her recover so they could get some answers with the others there for support. Spike still had a lot to process knowing that this is actually his mother, there wasn't anything to say she wasn't, she looked almost exactly like him aside from a few extra battle scars.
He just couldn't believe it, after so long, going through most of his life without ever even knowing if she was alive or not, she just suddenly turns up, looking for him. It made Spike just wonder on how this all really happened, if she really does still care for him, how did she lose him when he was an egg? What happened to his father? And where was she after so long?
Spike just didn't know how to feel about this, he felt both happy, sad, worried, and anxious about all that's happening, even with Smolder's support along with everyone else, he doesn't know if it'll be better until he properly gets answers, and something tells him, that he soon will.
Twilight was currently in the library again looking over some more books for studying, she was still waiting for Spike and Smolder to get back after they went out to help Spike practice with his flying, she didn't know what was taking them so long, she may just be a bit impatient, but something's starting to worry her, and she doesn't know why.
"Where are they? they should've been back by now?" Twilight asked curiously while she landed back down after flying through the place a bit, she didn't know if they were alright or not, and something was telling her that she should check to see if they're okay.
But as Twilight was about to leave in order to find them, the doors to the library suddenly burst open which knocked more books down upon the loud impact which surprised Twilight.
"Spike? Smolder?" Twilight asked with shock as she saw the two dragons running into the library quickly, they were both taking heavy breaths while they held something on their backs, it was a cloaked figure who she couldn't she the face off, and she was already worried the moment she saw this.
"Spike? Smolder? What happened? Is everything alright?" Twilight asked with worry while they finally reached her, Spike was trying to catch his breath after all the flying they had to do to get back here, and carrying his mother with him didn't make things any better.
"Twilight.. Smolder and I.. we.. we found someone.. someone.. extremely important.." Spike said in between breaths which worried her instantly.
"What? Who? what happened?" Twilight asked as she noticed the cloaked figure on their backs, but Smolder didn't want to waste time, and she went to just show her it.
"Just.. see it for yourself Twilight.." Smolder advised before she pulled off the hood for Twilight to see, Twilight had a worried look as she came up to this person to see it's face, but when she did, she gasped with complete shock with what she saw. She saw that this was a dragon that looked just like Spike, only that this dragon looked so much someone they'd never expect to meet.
"Spike.. is.. this?" Twilight asked with a concerned look as she saw Crystals face, Spike finally caught his breath fully again and tried calming down, but the sight of his mother being here is still something to process for all of them.
"Y.. Yeah, it is.. she's.. my.. mother.. we found her near the woods when we went out for a bit, she passed out possibly from exhaustion, having so much to process with finding her.. real son.. and it may be for other reasons too." Spike explained as he didn't know how to properly explain this.
"Yeah.. she said her name is.. Crystal, she said she really is Spike's mother, and looking at how similar they look, it could just be true that she really is.." Smolder added while she stretched her arms a bit too.
Twilight looked back at Crystal with worry, this was not how she expected her day to happen so suddenly, to know this could be Spike's real mother, it raised so many questions she had for her that she needed to know, but seeing how exhausted and somewhat injured she is right now, they need to help her first.
"I'll.. send a letter to Celestia and the other mane 6, we should all be here to meet her properly. Can you take her to one of our guest rooms Spike? I'll get some medical stuff we need to help her." Twilight asked which Spike quickly complied with.
"Sure thing Twilight.." Spike replied as he picked up her body again by himself, and before Smolder could even offer to help him, Spike quickly carried Crystal off to a spare room with all the strength he had, which did surprise her a bit from seeing it.
"Spike.." Smolder said with worry before she turned to Twilight, she was quickly writing a letter to not just Celestia, but the other mane 6 to come up and meet her here, this was an important moment for them all, and they should all be here for this. It only took a few more seconds for Twilight to finish up the letter, and she used a spell that sent it away in an instant, making Twilight sigh with relief from it.
"Alright, they should be here soon, it should give us enough time to process what's happening right now.." Twilight said as she was trying to calm down, and Smolder was getting more worried for them as things went on.
"Twilight.. I know you and Spike are worried about all of this, and believe me, I am too with this, but we need to take time with these things, try and calm down and properly plan this out, I know we have a ton of questions for Spike's.. mother, but we all need time to relax if we're gonna go through this, alright?" Smolder asked which Twilight already knew, but it's best she gets a little assurance right now too.
"Don't worry Smolder, I know. Let's just wait for the others to arrive, and we'll talk things out with this.. Crystal. She needs her rest too, and we need to plan this out.. come on Smolder..." Twilight advised as she was making her way out of the library to go to the main doors, Smolder just followed behind because there wasn't much she could do right now, she only hoped that when Spike's mother wakes up, it won't be some sick prank.
A Few Hours Later...
After Spike had helped put his mother in one of the guest rooms to help her rest, Spike had met up with Twilight and Smolder again to wait for the others to arrive. He was really worried on what to do right now, this all is just happening so sudden to him, he doesn't know how to process it. Twilight was right next to him as they waited at the main doors with Smolder right next to them, and they both saw how worried Spike is right now.
Twilight knew he had a lot going through his head, and she thought she should try and help him the support he needs to help him.
"Spike, I know this is.. a lot for us right now, but I'm sure when she wakes up, we'll all be able to talk about this in a natural way." Twilight assured while she looked worried herself.
"I don't know Twilight, this is just.. so much for me right now, I.. I never thought I'd even meet my real mother or father, and to suddenly meet my mother out there like this, knowing she really was searching for me.. it's just.. so much for me.." Spike said with worry as he sat on the floor to calm himself down.
"I know, it's.. rough for all of us right now, I never thought we'd have to go through this kind of talk so soon, but after all we've been through, it only was a matter of time before this would come.. do you.. think you can handle all of this Spike? I myself still don't know how to feel about this, but it's you I'm worried about the most Spike." Twilight replied while she sat down next to him, and Smolder just stood next to them to try and assist in whatever way she can.
"I just.. don't know how to handle this Twilight, to have this happen so suddenly, I never thought I'd really meet my mother after all this time.. given how long I've been with you.. I thought she was.. gone... I don't know what to feel about this either.. it's just so.. conflicting.." Spike replied while he looked at his own claws, Smolder sighed hearing this from them both and tried joining in on this to help them both.
"Guys, I know it's a lot, but we need to just take our time with this, when the others arrive, we should just try and take things slow and explain this calmly, we won't get anywhere if we just rush through things, alright?" Smolder asked once again since they were still having trouble with all of this, but it's understandable with why this is.
After hearing those words from Smolder, Spike tried taking some more deep breaths to calm down, despite how much he had to ask his mother, he needs to be calm about it, and he made sure to take that in the best he can.
"Your right Smolder.. sorry we're just.. going through a lot.." Spike said regretfully which she didn't mind at all.
"It's alright you two, let's just wait it out, I'm sure the others will be here soon." Smolder assured once again which finally calmed the two down.
But as they just finished up talking about this, they heard the doors open up suddenly, and they had an idea on why that was. They turned to the main doors ahead of them, and saw Celestia, Luna, and the other mane 6 had finally made it here. They all looked concerned on why they were called so suddenly, and judging by Spike and his groups own expressions, it may be for something worrying.
"Twilight, you called us here?" Celestia greeted while all of them came directly to them with respect.
"Yeah, I'm sorry for calling all of you here so suddenly, but just today, Spike and Smolder found something really important..." Twilight answered with a nervous look which concerned the whole group.
"Where were ya two? Were you out helping Spike get a hang on his wings?" Applejack asked looking at Smolder who nodded being asked that.
"Yeah, we were just near the forest by the time we were training, and that's when we ran into.. someone..." Smolder answered while she rubbed her neck.
"Really? Who did you run into?" Rainbow Dash asked while the three of them stayed silent, and they didn't know how to tell them who they met..
"Why are you all so silent, what's wrong?" Luna asked with worry while Spike looked down and sighed knowing he had to tell them this.
"The person me and Smolder ran into was my...." Spike couldn't even finish before a loud crash was heard followed by a roar from the distance which scared the group who heard it.
"Where's my baby?!" A voice asked with anger while it was stomping around the place to find her child, Spike's eyes widened in fear and they instantly knew who that was.
"Oh no, she's already awake! I'll be right back!" Spike shouted as he quickly went to calm his mother down while the mane 6 and princesses were just left confused.
"Wait.. did that voice say.. my baby?" Fluttershy asked with worry which made them all realize who they were trying to tell them about..
"Oh my.. gosh..." Rarity said with a gasp as they saw Spike running down the halls quickly to prevent any further accidents.
Spike quickly rushed down the halls in order to reach his mother who's most likely awake by now, but he didn't expect her to react so violently knowing that he's not here, it could've made her think it was some sort of sick prank or joke. And Spike needed to calm her down before something bad happens.
Spike soon turned another corner and he soon found his mother had finally woken up, she seemed to have burst down the door to the guest room she was put in to rest, and she was now looking around any other room she could find, she looked really upset at the sight of her child, him, not being with her, and Spike quickly ran up to her to calm her down.
"Wait! Mom, stop please!" Spike shouted just before she burst down another door, she quickly recognized that voice she heard and turned to Spike who was making his way to her, her rage slowly turned to concern and worry seeing him here, and he finally made his way up to her to calm her down.
"Mom.. A..." Spike tried to ask if she's alright, but Crystal didn't even let him finish before she suddenly grabbed him and pulled him into a tight hug.
"Son, your okay! What happened? Where are we? Are you hurt?!" Crystal asked with a worried look while she was inspecting all over him for any injuries.
"No.. mom... I'm fine, your in my friends home, a castle. Me and Smolder brought you here to recover after you blacked out, we just didn't think you'd.. react like this once you woke up.." Spike answered which made her realize what she did, and she soon had a look of guilt as she realized what's happened.
"I'm.. I'm really sorry my Emerald.. it's just.. I didn't want to think it was a dream, I wanted to believe I really found you in those woods, and to know it's all real.. it just.. gives me so much relief.. I'm sorry for the way I reacted.. I.. tend to freak out when things like this happen.." Crystal admitted which Spike could understand.
"It's alright.. mom.. I know your just worried for me.." Spike replied as he started to tear up, and he soon hugged her back after taking it all in.
Spike still couldn't believe it, this was his real mother, right in front of him. She looked exactly like him, there was no mistaking it. To know she's still alive after all these years, and really was searching for him, it fills him with such joy and sadness he's never felt in his life. He felt happy to know she was really out there searching for him, but was sad to know how long she was gone, and he didn't know why it took so long for her to find him.
"Emerald.. are you okay?" Crystal asked with a worried look while Spike looked up at her with tears in his eyes, he could see tears coming from her too knowing she's really found him, and he just couldn't believe it's true.
"I'm.. okay it's just.. I can't believe it's really you.. you really are alive.. I.. didn't think I'd get to meet you after so long... I thought.. you or my father may be.. gone.. and I'd never get answers to what happened with you.." Spike answered sadly which made her feel awful knowing how much he's missed her.
"I know my child.. I know.. I could hardly believe it myself.. but now that I have you back.. I promise I'll answer all the questions you have.. It's the least I can do to make up for how long I've been.. gone.." Crystal replied with a regretful look as well.
As the two dragons were hugging eachother, they soon heard footsteps approaching them, and they soon regained focus again and turned to see that Twilight, Smolder and the others had caught up with them. All of the mane 6 and princesses were shocked to see Crystal here, and given they're resemblance, it's clear on who she is, and they couldn't believe it.
"Spike.. is.. everything alright? Who is this?" Twilight asked while everyone looked at Crystal, she herself wanted to know who these ponies are, and it's best that they finally start explaining things.
"Girls.. I want all of you to meet.. Crystal.. she's.. my mother. Crystal.. this is Twilight, and her friends, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie. And the two large ones are..." Spike was introducing each person to Crystal, but she already knew who Celestia and Luna were with what she's heard of them
"Celestia and Luna, princesses of the Sun and Moon." Crystal answered respectfully which surprised them for a moment, but they did feel a bit glad knowing she knows who they are.
"So.. do you.. mind having us ask a few questions? I'm sure you have some for us as too, it's best we all try and talk this out." Celestia asked which everyone could agree too.
"Yes, I believe that is a good choice. Is there a place where we can all talk over this?" Crystal asked while she looked around the large crystal castle around them, and Smolder knew where to go.
"There's a place where we can talk, come on guys." Smolder insisted while she was walking down the halls to the meeting room, it was the perfect place for them to talk, and everypony and dragon quickly followed behind to answer things.
Spike could see Crystal was concerned on all that's happening right now, and he didn't blame her, while they had a lot of questions for her, she certainly has a lot too. And Spike only hoped this would turn out well at least.
"Hey.. mom.. are you alright?" Spike asked nervously while she was keeping her focus on the halls ahead of her.
"I'm okay.. son, I just need time to think over this, I'm sure we all do." Crystal replied which Spike could agree with.
"Yeah.. we all do.. just know that I promise it'll be alright in the end mom, we'll talk this out, and hopefully we'll decide what to do next." Spike prayed while she looked at him one again, and hoped that was true for them.
"I hope so too my child, I have ideas of my own, but we must discuss this at once.." Crystal replied while they were heading through the halls, Spike didn't know how they were gonna handle things now that Crystal is here, hopefully she can understand why Spike was raised by ponies, and they all can understand how he got here in the first place. Spike just hopes what comes next, it'll all turn out good in the end..
Author's Note
Hey guys thanks for reading this! Sorry this chapter felt short or like if things were just starting up, but I'm trying to make sure to pace out how things will go along with this story. I do plan on making things longer going forward, but I was just wanting something nice and small before we get to more important stuff starting with the next chapter, so I hope you don't mind it, I just hope you like what's happening so far, and look forward to more of it!
After Spike, Crystal, Smolder and everyone else went to the Cutie Map room to talk things out, everyone's been waiting to hear about how Crystal lost Spike as an egg. This was a very important moment for them all to be at, Spike was still trying to process the fact that his mother is alive and has been searching for him. But he still wants to know how she didn't find him for so many years, everyone here does.
No one expected this day to end up like this right now with all the stuff they've had to do at the School of Friendship, or anything else they've had to do before they were called here. But as they all sat in the room, looking over Crystal as she tries to figure out how to properly tell what's happened, everyone was waiting as patiently as they could to stay calm like this.
Spike was sitting right next to Crystal to help calm her if she needs a moment to relax, Crystal was taking some deep breaths so they could finally start talking about what happened.
"I.. know you all have a lot of questions for me, it would make sense. From the looks of it, I can tell you are all a family to my child at this point." Crystal said calmly while finally breaking the silence.
Everyone looked at eachother and thought about what they could say before turning back to her, Crystal was completely calm and ready to explain what separated them in the first place, and they were ready to begin this topic. And Celestia was the first one to reply to begin things
"We.. know this is a lot for you too, but I would like to say it is nice to meet you Crystal. And I'm sorry for any concerns you may have right now." Celestia said respectfully which the others nodded in agreement to.
Crystal looked at all the main 6 and princesses, and despite what she knows about Celestia and Luna, she still has some stuff to think over right now.
"It's okay Celestia, I know my sudden arrival is shocking to most, but I assure you all, I'm not an imposter or anything like that. I am Crystal, your friends mother." Crystal introduced in a polite tone while she sat down calmly.
"We can see that by now ma'am, but why don't we start with some questions just to get things going, if that's alright with you?" Rainbow Dash asked while she sat next to Twilight.
"I am open to whatever questions you have, and I know there's a lot you need to know." Crystal replied as Spike prepared to finally learn what happened to him as an egg.
Twilight was the first one to ask these questions, and she tried not being rude about it.
"Well, to begin things, why don't you start by explaining to us, if you were searching for Spike for a while, why did it take so long for you to find him here? Where do you live exactly?" Twilight asked as she may live in the Dragon Lands like every other dragon.
"Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, even though I've been there plenty of times, I've never seen a dragon that looks like you before." Smolder added while crossing her arms still.
Crystal knew that was the first question they were gonna ask, and she already had answers for what they will ask later, but for now, she has to explain why it took so long to find him.
"While I may among other dragons, I live far off the coast of the Dragon Lands, to some large islands that are home to many different types of dragons, some are able to live underground or in the mountains like most, but some dragons have villages like this one where I live." Crystal explained which was very interesting for them to know.
"Wait, are you talking about the Seasonal Islands that are miles away from the mainland's? It'd take days to fly from there to here, is that what took you so long?" Smolder asked as she had known some stuff regarding this before.
"Yes, I live in the Tropical Forests of those islands, we tend to keep things to ourselves, and news that comes from the Mainland isn't really something we get concerned about, the only type of news we do get when it's time, is the announcement of a new Dragon Lord, or if there are more willing to live on the islands. Dragons that live on the Seasonal Islands are far more civilized then the one on the mainland, because they live in lands of lava and rock, it's more simple for them." Crystal explained as she looked at the map of Equestria, and she trailed her claw to show how far off they are from the Seasonal Islands.
"How come we've never heard of this place before? How did the Cutie Map not even know about this place?" Twilight asked with surprise while she looked at the map.
"It may be due to how far off they are Twilight, I myself haven't even been there." Celestia answered while they turned to Crystal again.
"So your saying there's multiple different types of dragons on these islands? Far more then the ones we've seem like Smolder here?" Applejack asked while Smolder finally sat down too.
"Yes, there are. But that's one of the reasons it took so long for me to find my child. These islands are far off from the main parts of the Dragon Lands, it would take multiple nights to fly there, with a few breaks in between smaller islands. It's a long journey to go from my own home to here." Crystal explained which was fascinating to everyone.
"Interesting... to know there are many other dragon types out there.." Twilight said with fascination while she was writing that down for research later.
But while it was interesting to know this, everyone was ready to hear the real story about what happened with Spike's egg, and how she ended up losing him in the first place.
"While.. this is very fascinating to learn Crystal, I think we'd all like to know the truth about.. how you and your child was separated years ago?" Luna asked politely while Crystal reflected on that awful day, it was the worst day she'd been through in her life, and it made her feel nothing but regret for losing so much because of it.
"Mom, are you okay?" Spike asked with concern while he saw a tear in her eye while she tried to explain what happened.
"If you wish to know, then I will tell you all I can. Years ago, when I was very young, I had been engaged with my own mate, who was called.. Flare. He was.. one of the best things that ever came into my life.." Crystal said with guilt as she took out a small photo she had, and it showed her and Flare together with a egg that looked exactly like Spikes, which further confirmed that she was his mother.
"That's.. my.. father?" Spike asked with worry while he took a closer look at him, he had dark purple scales, with a similar spine to Spike's, and he had emerald green eyes that are just like his and Crystals, they looked almost exactly alike to put it simply.
"Yes.. it is.. he was the best thing that came to me when I was alone. Me and Flare met when I was going through the Dragon Lands one day to get supplies, he and I met at a market area that was farther into the main lands, which made it a long way to travel. But we met when we were looking for some stuff for our homes. There was just something about him that told me he was.. who I was needing in my life, and he felt the same way.." Crystal said with guilt as she put the photo away so she could explain this fully.
She took another deep breath before looking at everyone else so they could hear everything.
"I was born to a family of fighter's in the Seasonal Islands, my family wanted to keep them safe from any threats that could come from it, I was born and trained when I was but a hatchling, I was barely at Emerald's age when I started to train, once I grew my wings, they tasked me with multiple ways to make myself a skilled fighter. I spent many years of my life growing more skilled as time passed, but once I felt like I was strong enough. I told my family I'd want to go out on my own path, and they were glad to agree with it, my mother and father may be a bit.. strict at times, but they care for me, and let me tell you.. when I.. lost my egg, they couldn't have felt more regretful for what happened to me.." Crystal explained as she looked out the window for a brief moment.
"And.. how did that happen exactly?" Rainbow asked again which made her remember that last moment she had with Flare.
"We were attacked by wild beasts within the Everfree forest, we went there for hunting one day when we were out to spend time together, but we were ambushed by far too many Timberwolves, despite our best effort's.. Flare suffered really bad injuries, and during the fight.. I lost my egg during all that was happening. I was too busy trying to save Flare before I.. realized it was gone.." Crystal said with regret as she had tears in her eyes while recalling that day.
"I didn't know what to do, I was too lost in my thoughts to figure out what I should do first, Flare was in a horrible state that needed to be treated, but my egg would've been found by those beasts too, I couldn't decide what to do. I soon lost myself and just went berserk on all those Timberwolves and beats surrounding us, and before I realized it.. it was.. to late.." Crystal continued as everyone kept listening to this with a regretful look too.
"By the time I finished dealing with those beasts, Flare was already in a state that he couldn't recover from, I didn't know what to do, I tried bringing him to the Dragon Lands again to get someone to heal him, but.. he was too injured, he was clawed relentlessly, they're marks could be seen in places you never would think of.. and.. he just wouldn't have been the same if he did.. and.. he.. couldn't take it anymore.. he.. died in front of me.." Crystal finished while Spike was in complete shock of hearing this news, knowing his father is.. really gone..
"M.. mom.. I'm so sorry.." Spike said with sorrow as he tried comforting her, but she tried holding back her tears from what had happened.
"He was everything to me, when we had you Emerald, we hoped that we could be a family together, maybe one day you'd get to meet my own family, they would've loved to meet you. We.. spent so much time together, hunting, flying through the Dragon Lands, learning more about eachother's lives, he was just.. the perfect person for me.. he was kind.. fun, and really caring, and.. that's not something you see in most dragons in the main lands, they're always so rough, acting like they know everything when they barely do, and are just aggressive. I never found anyone like him ever again, and I didn't want to, he.. was just all I could've asked for.. and.. when he died.. I.. just couldn't get over it.." Crystal explained even more while she hugged Spike tightly suddenly.
"When he passed.. I quickly made my way back to the forest to hopefully find you, I had held out hope that wherever you went, I'd be able to find you before any of those.. monsters did, but.. when I made it back to where that battle happened, I couldn't find you anywhere.. you were completely gone, and.. I thought they killed you.. before you were even born.. it.. it broke me son.. and the only people who helped me was my family, but.. it was a day.. I'd never forget.. it was just.. the worst.." Crystal finished as everyone looked at her with guilt.
They all felt really awful knowing this happened to Spike when he was an egg, but especially knowing how tough it was for Crystal, Smolder knew how tough it was for dragons to lose they're children for reasons beyond they're control, and it's a feeling of guilt that can never go away..
"I'm.. really sorry to hear that Crystal, to know you had to go through that for so long, we wish we could've found a way to help you.." Twilight said with guilt while Crystal kept hugging Spike who didn't let go either.
"Thank you.. but.. I need to ask, how did you raise my child? Did you.. find his egg somehow?" Crystal asked with interest while looking to them, and Celestia tried her best to explain what happened, and it was hard knowing how it went for her now.
"I.. can explain this. I had found Spike's egg when I was on a walk through the forest, it wasn't too far from where you were from the sound of it, but I found his egg after it looked to have been rolled down a hill, it wasn't damaged at all thankfully. But I was left wondering how it could've ended up there, I tried finding out where you were, but since you were most likely trying to.. save your loved one, I soon came to a decision to take it back to the castle with me." Celestia answered which surprised Crystal a lot hearing it.
"Why.. why didn't you take it back to the Dragon Lands and deliver it to a hatching ground? Eggs that are usually found alone tend to be brought to that area for another to adopt, it was the first place I went to after I couldn't find my egg, so why didn't you do it?" Crystal asked as she was starting to look a bit upset knowing this.
"It.. was because I had given it to Twilight here for a little project, she was tasked with trying to hatch the egg with her magic, I.. needed that egg for it Crystal, something just told me that it was the better option, and thankfully, Twilight managed to fully hatch him when she used the right spell, and she's raised him ever since." Celestia answered while looking a bit guilty for telling her this.
Crystal soon turned to Twilight with a bit of an angry glare, she knew how dangerous it was for using magic like that on things so valuable, and she wanted to make sure nothing bad happened during his process.
"You mean to say she hatched my child with her magic? Knowing that there would be a great risk the egg would've been shattered or broken as a result? Leaving the child unable to be born?" Crystal asked with a slight growl which was making everyone nervous.
"I.. read every book we had on how to use proper spells, I was making sure not make a mistake during the time I had it, I promise I was being as careful as I could with it, I knew how dangerous it was, but I managed to hatch him without any issues, I promise it." Twilight assured while still looking worried about how she'd respond.
Crystal soon calmed down a bit again after hearing that, she then turned to her son and took a closer look at him to see if there was anything wrong.
"Are you sure about this son? Your certain she didn't do anything that harmed you when you hatched?" Crystal asked as she stretched him out a bit to make it crystal clear.
"Y.. Yeah! She hatched me perfectly! There's nothing wrong with me mom, trust me!" Spike said as she soon put him down, and sighed with relief knowing nothing went wrong.
"Forgive me, it's just that things like this can risk breaking a dragon egg when we least expect it. I'm grateful you were able to hatch him, and raised him like your own, as long as he was taken care of properly, that's all I can ask for.." Crystal said gratefully which made all of them sigh in relief.
"At least she didn't freak out over anything.." Smolder thought to herself as most dragons would've definitely been mad knowing this.
Spike took in all this news the best he could, he finally had his mother here with them again, his birth mother, and knowing what she's been through and what caused him to be separated, it just made him feel regret for what's happened. But now that they are here, maybe there's a way they can be a family again.
"I'm really sorry you had to go through all this mom, we all are. But.. now that we're here, what do you think we can do now that we're together again?" Spike asked with worry while Crystal thought over it.
Even if he was raised well here, there was still much he needed to learn to be able to handle himself, Crystal wanted to make up lost time with him, and knowing her parents would be very happy to know her child is alive, it made her come to a conclusion that would be best for them all.
"I.. want to take my child home with me.." Crystal answered which made everyone concerned hearing that.
"What do you mean by that?" Pinkie asked as Crystal was standing up and took Spike's hand in a gentle way.
"I want to take my Emerald back home with me, to the Seasonal Islands, I know it's far off in the Dragon Lands, but it's a place that he and I can spend time together at, and we can finally spend time together as mother and son again.." Crystal replied with a bit of a stern look while she explained this.
"You mean you want him leave us for a while? To know more about his kind and grow closer to you again?" Twilight asked with worry while making sure this is what she's meaning.
"Yes, it's as simple as it sounds. I know you all care for him very much, but I need to show him what he's been missing out on, I'm his mother, I.. want to show him what more there is to our kind, and.. I want him to meet my own family, they'd be so happy to meet him.." Crystal said softly as she looked down at Spike who was shocked hearing that.
"You really wanna take me to see your home?" Spike asked again which made her shake her head as she's answered this already.
"Yes, I want to take you to my home. I know you and your friends still have a lot you want to learn about me, but I want to reconnect with you my Emerald, we'll come back to your friends when you've gotten used to everything. But this is just so we can make up for lost time, so I can start raising you as a dragon. There's much you can learn from coming home with me, and I think it will be a great opportunity for you to start growing more too." Crystal answered as she looked at the others who were starting to stand up too.
They still had they're concerns with hearing this, they didn't know if Spike would be okay or not, but with how Crystal's described it, she may handle things just fine.
"Spike, are you certain you should go with her? Why not try to spend time with us here?" Rarity suggested as she tried buying for more time, but Spike thought over all of it, knowing what Crystal went through, spending time with her as mother and son sounded like a great idea.
"I.. think it's best I go with her girls, I know your all concerned for me, but this is what I've been waiting for most of my life, I know you've all cared for me, but I'd just like to spend time with her again, it'll be fun for us right?" Spike asked looking at Crystal again who nodded to confirm it.
Smolder could see he was wanting to do this a lot, and she tried putting everyone's worry's to rest.
"It'll be fine guys, if Spike wants to spend time with his mother, we shouldn't get in the way of that. Besides, she said she'll bring him back when they've spent enough time together, so we shouldn't have to worry about a thing." Smolder assured the others who felt some relief hearing that again.
"Well.. if it's what Spike wants, then I say we should let him go with her, you can spend the night at the castle before setting out tomorrow, how's that sound Crystal?" Luna asked with a small smile which Crystal liked the sound of.
"That sounds really nice, me and my baby have a lot of time to make up, so it's best we get ready for the long trip." Crystal said with a smile as she grabbed Spike's hand and started to walk out of the room with her again while Spike was still trying to process all of this.
"Um.. okay mom, we'll see you later guys!" Spike shouted from the distance before a door slam was heard, and the main 6 and princesses were left alone while trying to think over this still.
"Do you.. think they'll be alright Twilight? You sure she'll take care of him out there?" Applejack asked with concern while Twilight hoped that would be the case.
"I think she will Applejack, let's just give them the time they need, I mean how long could she want to keep him with her for exactly?" Twilight asked with a nervous look which made Smolder smirk a bit hearing that.
"Ooh, how long exactly was it since you've raised him Twi? Like 12 to 13 years?" Smolder asked with a smirk which made Twilight curious a bit.
"Yeah, why?" Twilight asked which made Smolder chuckle a bit.
"Maybe it'll be years with him before she brings him back! She did say she wanted to make up for lost time after all!" Smolder joked which surprised all of them hearing it.
"What?! Are you serious?!" Rainbow Dash asked with shock while Smolder just started laughing while walking out of the room.
"I'm kidding! I'm sure it won't be TOO long!" Smolder replied as she made her way out of the room while the others were trying to figure out what that meant.
"What do you mean by that?! Smolder!" Twilight screamed as she chased after her while Celestia and Luna shook they're heads seeing this, they just hoped that Spike and Crystal could reconnect with eachother, there's a lot for them to process, and hopefully this will let them understand more about Spike's family and home..
Author's Note
Hey guys thanks for reading this! Very sorry for the wait on this chapter, but I was trying to find something that would be interesting to explain Crystal's own origins on how she lost Spike, I don't want this story to feel like just a repeat of My Mother, while there are some parts of this story that will be similar to it, I don't want things to feel like it's the same story.
I'm going to try and go more in on the Seasonal Islands that I've brought up, I'll try to make them as interesting as they can be while also helping flesh out Crystal's family too, I'm not the best with character descriptions or personality's right now, but I'll try to get better at them as I go on with my story's. I'm going to make this story simple for the most part, I don't plan on any big conflicts for this story, just a nice story where Spike reconnects with his mother.
But if you guys have ideas on what I can do with the Dragon Lands, and with character's like Ember and Smolder, please let me know, I'm wanting to try and make this story the best I can, and if there's stuff so far that feels reused or could be changed, let me know and I'll try to blend it into the story better. I'm wanting to make my story's the best they can be, and I hope you can understand it. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you look forward to more!
After Spike and Crystal left the others to prepare to leave for a possibly long trip, Spike and his mother went to his room to start packing things up for the trip he's going to be taking with her, it's going to be quite a while before he comes back with her, but as long as it gives them time to reconnect, Spike will be okay with it.
He still can't believe he's finally learned the truth about his parents, with how long it's been since he hatched, he never thought he'd really find out who his parents were, it was one of the biggest mysteries in his life, and now that he finally knows, it just feels so strange, he wished his father was still alive to be with them for this reunion, with how great of a person he sounded like, they all could've been a great family together, but it was torn apart just due to unfortunate events.
But now, they have the chance to reconnect and grow as mother and son again, while Spike's been through a lot with Twilight and everyone else over the years, some time to relax with his mother and seeing where he came from is like sounded nice, while he still has to figure out how to break this news to both Thorax and Ember, as long as they understand what happened, it'll all turn out well.
Spike and his mother were in his room, packing whatever supplies he wanted to bring for this journey their going on, Crystal was a bit slow at the moment due to needing to rest before the trip, she can fly for weeks on end as long as she has proper supplies, and now that she's taking her son with her, she has to prepare for whatever will happen during it.
"Are you sure you want to bring these.. comic books with you on this? The Seasonal Islands can often be unpredictable, and they could be ruined if we end up dropping them?" Crystal asked with some concern as she saw some comics called the Power Ponies being put into a large bag Spike was bringing along with them.
"Don't worry, I can keep track of things, I often had to manage stuff like this all the time when Twilight couldn't, even before we lived in this castle, I often had to do more of the work around our home while she had to do her studying." Spike replied with a confident look while Crystal was curious to learn more about this.
"What do you mean by that?" Crystal asked just wanting a bit more info on that.
"I mainly just did a ton of chores and stuff around the place while Twilight was too busy to do it herself, willingly just to let you know. I actually liked being able to manage all of that when I had to, even for someone as young as me, I've become far more organized then most Dragons out there, just look at my room!" Spike pointed out as Crystal looked at his room and could see where he was coming from.
It was extremely well organized with proper clothing put where they need to, books and comics placed nicely on some shelves he had in it, as well as the blankets of his little bed being nicely laid out, if just this room can look so nicely done, she can only imagine how he handles the rest of the castle when he needs to do it.
"You've never felt overwhelmed by all that work, have you? A lot of work like that can be extremely tough for someone so young?" Crystal asked with worry after understanding it, but Spike gave her an assuring smile that it's nothing to worry about.
"Don't worry, I've managed this for years, I rarely ever feel overworked, but even when I do need a break, Twilight lets me rest for as long as I need it, I'm not just a servant to her mom, even though I am known as her #1 assistant." Spike said proudly while he took a few books and threw them into the bag while she watched on with concern.
Hearing all of this worried her in ways, while she's glad to know he can handle himself during situations like this, the fact he's had to do this from such a young age concerned her. It's likely just her protective instincts telling her this, but she is a bit worried on how he'll handle their own home, it's very different from Canterlot, the dragons there are far different and unique compared to the ones in the mainland's, and even if he can fly, he still barely looks like he's able to properly hold out in a fight, and it only worried her even more the more she thought about it.
"But.. mom, I was hoping to ask you something..." Spike suddenly said which shook her out of her thoughts to keep her focus on Spike.
"What is it child?" Crystal asked with worry while she took some of his blankets and put them in the bag for the trip, and Spike only sighed before he turned to her and looked very concerned about some things.
"Are you sure you want to go there so soon? I know you want to spend time with me and all, but we can do that here. There's plenty of places and fun areas in Canterlot and the castle that I think you'll enjoy, I haven't even introduced you to Thorax and Ember yet, I'm sure they'd be very happy to know that I've finally met my birth mother after all these years. We don't have to go so soon, you know that right?" Spike asked as he hoped she could at least try to rest before they leave the place.
"I've handled long journeys like this before son, some dragons can't even leave the Seasonal Islands because of how far they are off the map, it would take years for one to simply prepare themselves for a long journey like this, but that doesn't mean we won't stop to rest at certain points before we depart, there are smaller islands and places in the Dragon Lands that I know of that will allow us time to rest. Trust me, I know when I need to rest or not." Crystal assured too while Spike hoped that was true knowing how tired she looked when he and Smolder met her.
"As long as your sure of it, I just don't want anything happening to you again, those Timberwolves you fought really wore you down, if we encounter something like that while we're out there.. I don't want to imagine what that could do to you.." Spike said with fear at the thought of what could possibly harm her again after what he's learned about her.
Crystal soon walked up to him and leaned down before placing a claw on his shoulder, she could feel he was stressed and worried about this, and it made sense. She didn't want anything happening to him either, but now that she's finally met him, she won't let anything harm either of them once they leave.
"I know this is hard for you child.. to.. suddenly have me come back into your life, after you were raised by.. Twilight and her family for years, I can understand why you thought that you were.. abandoned. It breaks my heart knowing that you had to go all these years, without ever even knowing if I loved you or not.. but please try to understand, no matter how long it's been since I lost you, I always loved and cared for you, even if I.. thought you were gone too.." Crystal said sadly as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a hug to try to help him.
Feeling this hug from her made Spike thing over things again, because despite this being the most shocking revelation in his life up to this point, knowing that she did care for him, even after all this time, he felt extremely grateful knowing that she was willing to go so far to find him.
He doesn't want anything to happen to her, and neither does she, but with the two of them back together again, he only hoped for the best now that they all finally know the truth.
"Thank you.. mom.. I just still can't believe that after all this time, I've finally gotten to meet you.." Spike said with tears as he turned around and hugged her back to help her too.
"Me too child.... just know that no matter what happens, mommy will always love you.." Crystal assured with a soft while while they looked at eachother again, and after remembering some things she had said before, he was curious to know just a bit more about her.
"Mom.. do you think we could meet your family once we get there? You said they'd be very happy to know that I'm alive, and that you found me again. But.. how will they react knowing that I was raised by ponies after all this time? Equestria has often been in danger more times then I can count, and if they knew about the dangers I was in, like Sombra, Chrysalis, Tirek, and even Discord, would they even be alright with me living here knowing just how dangerous things can get here?" Spike asked with worry as they looked at eachother, and she herself didn't know how to answer it either.
"I.. don't know child, they are very protective and supportive of me, but even after I got my wings, it took a few years before I could convince them that I could go out on my own. My mother and father did everything they could to prepare me for any dangers I could possibly face, and.. I have a feeling that when we meet them.. they might want to teach you similar things too." Crystal answered which worried Spike once he heard that.
"Do you think they may want to us to stay with them for a few years if we meet them? I know it's just for protection and everything, but if that means I may not see Twilight or my friends for that long..." Spike said with concern while Crystal looked down with worry as she can't answer it directly either.
" I really don't want that to be the case, but I do have a feeling that they'll let you visit your friends when you'd like, but with how long it takes to get to my home, that may only be a possibility.." Crystal answered which just made this more worrying to both of them.
"Let's just hope that doesn't happen, I'm still very excited I'll get to meet your family and see more of what our kind is like, I've only just begun to learn a bit more from Ember since she's been trying to make them change their ways, but the fact she has to force them to do it, it's just sad to know that's what it takes to actually try to do it." Spike said with some disappointment for what he's seen of most dragons outside of Ember.
"That's just how most dragons prefer to live their life Emerald, but once we get to the Seasonal Islands, you will see dragons far more civilized and developed then any of the dragons you've seen, it will be a different experience, but one that will help you see just how much larger the world really is." Crystal said with a more hopeful tone while Spike was interested to learn more about it.
"Is there really that much to see out there? Just how big are the Seasonal Islands anyway?" Spike asked curiously while she only chuckled upon hearing that from him.
"You will find out very soon my Emerald, once we leave tomorrow, we will have plenty of time to see all of what it has to offer. I promise." Crystal said as she looked out the window, and they could both see the sun was starting to set.
"I think it's best we rest for tonight, we have a long journey ahead of us tomorrow, and it's best we be prepared for anything." Crystal suggested as they finished packing what Spike's bringing with them for the trip, and after a little yawn, Spike himself felt ready to get some sleep too after such an eventful day.
"Yeah, I like the sound of that." Spike replied with a smile before she suddenly picked him up, and began taking him to her own room for a little rest while carrying his stuff with her tail like it was nothing.
"W.. what are you doing mom?" Spike asked with surprise while she only chuckled seeing his reaction, and soon went to her guest room to rest.
"I want to spend the night with you child, while we'll have plenty of time together late on, I just want to cuddle with my little baby tonight, any mother would do it with their hatchling once they were born, and I just want to experience that feeling.." Crystal said with a smile while she put Spike's stuff on the side, and even if it seemed strange to Spike, he felt it would be best to spend the night with her, just to make sure it doesn't feel like a dream when they wake up tomorrow.
"Okay mom.. as long as it helps make you happy.." Spike replied as she got into her bed and hugged him to her chest, and smiled while having a few tears in her eyes, finally being able to do this with her child.
"Thank you son, good night.. I love you..." Crystal said one last time as she started to fall asleep with him still left thinking over this, but after a while, he just decided it was best to sleep himself.
"I love you too.. mom.." Spike said with joy before he fell asleep with her for the night, and just hoped that going forward, they can all make up for the lost time together.
And as they slept the night away together, Twilight was currently on the balcony of the castle overlooking things, she was extremely worried on what this will mean for all of them going forward now that Spike's mother has come back into his life, while she's glad that Spike finally has met his real mother, what happens next is just what worries her most.
And while she kept looking over the view, she heard footsteps approach her, and as she turned around, she saw Celestia and Luna come out to her, likely to help her.
"Hey Celestia, Luna, it's a.. beautiful night isn't it?" Twilight asked with a small smile while the two walked up to her, and only smiled back as she just tried finding a way around this for now.
"It is Twilight, every night within Equestria, we always get to see a beautiful view like this, and every morning, and amazing sunrise." Luna replied while looking at her sister who was happy to hear that from her.
"That's our duty's after all, but what brings you out here Twilight? The others are already asleep by now, so what's keeping you out here?" Celestia asked with worry while Twilight looked down slightly and sighed knowing what their wanting to talk about.
"I think you both already know.." Twilight replied sadly before she turned back around to look at the view, and the two princesses did look a bit guilty for having to bring this up.
"We know your worried for him Twilight, believe me, we all are too. Having his mother suddenly come back like this, after years of never even hearing about what his parents were like, it's a lot to take in. Even if they've gone to sleep by now, the other Main 6 have had a lot to think about with this too." Luna said calmly while she put a hoof on her shoulder while Twilight was still lost thinking over this.
"I just don't know what to do right now.. Spike's been a little brother to me for so many years, and I'm just really worried on what'll happen to him now that he's going back to his home with his mother." Twilight said with concern while Celestia and Luna also had their own concerns for this.
"I can understand it's very hard Twilight, I.. honestly didn't think she'd come back after so long, I never heard anything about her when I found his egg when it was abandoned, but I always held out hope that we could all meet her one day." Celestia replied while Twilight held her hoofs on her face and groaned as there was so much to think about at this point.
"What if something happens to him out there while he and Crystal go to those.. Seasonal Islands? We've never even heard of them before, if their not even on any maps of Equestria, then how do we know their really what their said to be? They could be someplace completely different for all we know! Even if Ember and Smolder could go out to help him when possible, we don't know anything about that place, and what the dragons there are like! If their anything like Garble or his punk friends, or any of the other dragons we've had to deal with before we met Ember, I don't know what to do if something ends up hurting him while their gone!" Twilight said with huge worry while she was pacing around while the other two kept watching her.
"Twilight, what Crystal said is true, while I have not heard of the Seasonal Islands at all, if Smolder and Ember do know about them, then she is telling the truth of what their like. We can understand your worries over this, but you should try thinking positively about this, even if it's going to be a while once they leave together, when they get back, there's so much more that we can all do now that she's come back." Luna encouraged while Twilight just couldn't understand it right now.
"I'm sorry you two, but I'm still just finding it hard to accept.. he's been with us for so long, and seeing him go like that, it's something I don't know if I'm ready for.." Twilight replied while looking back at them again.
"It won't be forever Twilight, they will return when they feel like it. But please try to understand, even if it it'll be a few years before they come back, what Spike will be learning over there will be extremely important. Not only will he be learning more about the different types of Dragons there are out there, but he'll also be reconnecting with his mother and her family, and what they'll teach him could help him greatly once he's ready to come back." Celestia encouraged too while Luna came in to support this.
"Spike may be extremely smart for his age, but he's also still very young, and is in need of support to learn how to handle things on his own, if his mother is capable of fighting off that many Timberwolves like how Smolder described, she could help him for the better, and that could be better for all of us too. We care for him just as much as you care for him Twilight, but we want what's best for him too, if he wants to go with his mother, even for a few years to make up lost time with her, he's completely allowed to do it." Luna added in while they both looked down at Twilight who was starting to see where their coming from.
"And don't forget Twilight, he'll still be able to send you letters and let you know what it's like out there, if he needs help, he'll just be able to ask, even if it's for something as small as some advise or help on how to give his mother support. She needs just as much as support as he does. We'll all be able to see him again soon Twilight, it won't be for the rest of his life." Celestia said once again as they kept looking at her.
And hearing all those words from the two made Twilight start to calm down, even if she's worried about what'll happen to him out there, he's been through just as much as they have with the threats they've faced. He knows what he'll need to do if he's in trouble, and if he needs help, they'll all be able to help him if he needs it, no matter how far away he is.
After thinking over all of that, Twilight only sighed again, and looked back up at them with a grateful look after hearing those words from them.
"Thank you.. I'm sorry for freaking out like that, he'll be able to look out for himself while he's out there, and if anything happens, we'll all be there instantly to help him, right?" Twilight asked hopefully as they all looked at the view again, and hoped for the best when he leaves tomorrow.
"Of course Twilight, let's just hold onto hope he'll be okay out there." Celestia replied one more time as they took this view in for a bit before finally deciding to get some sleep themselves.
After they had all went to sleep for that night, it had passed within what felt like only a few hours, and after the night passed, the sun had soon started to rise once again, and as the morning had come upon Equestria once again, everyone who got up got ready for Spike's departure with his mother, while they all wished Crystal could stay for just a bit to recover, if they're really wanting to go by today, they should at least be there for when they leave together.
Once the sun was high within the sky once again, Spike and Crystal had finished packing up whatever else Spike was wanting to bring with him, he made sure to bring as many books and essential items he wanted for the trip, and while he is worried about how it'll go with Crystal's own family, he's also very eager to see what else is out there, and what more there is to his own kind.
And after a few hours had passed, everyone had soon gathered at the front entrance of Twilight's castle again, all the Main 6, Celestia and Luna, as well as Smolder were all facing Spike and Crystal who had multiple bags on them, and were ready to get going for now.
"Well.. I.. guess this is it for now girls, me and my mom are.. really heading out, will you all be okay while I'm gone?" Spike asked with worry while everyone had their hopes he'll be okay.
"We'll be fine Spike, if anything happens, we'll be sure to send a letter to you, but don't let that distract you, just make sure to have a fun time out there with your mother." Smolder replied with a smile while crossing her arms again.
"She's right Spike, we'll all be here for you if you need it, but you should just try to go out there and have fun!" Pinkie assured too while everyone else nodded in agreement hearing this.
"Just be sure to have fun out there with your mother, and don't let anything try to stop that okay?" Fluttershy asked hopefully which Spike smiled at.
"This is gonna be a big change for you Spike, but while we're all happy that you'll be spending time with her, is there anything you need to do before you leave? Anything at all?" Rarity asked again, hoping they could spend just a bit more time with him before he leaves.
"I've packed all I need Rarity, I'll be fine. I promise." Spike assured while he went up to them, and gave all of them a hug as this will be the last time he sees them for a while.
"Take care of yourself out there Spike, don't let anything bring you down, your a brave little dragon, and don't be afraid to show that out there." Applejack encouraged while they all kept hugging him.
"Just make sure to let us know what exciting things will be happening while your out there, your not the only one who's really interested in hearing about what these Seasonal Islands are like!" Rainbow Dash said positively while they all looked at eachother, and smiled at eachother once again.
"I'll make sure of that girls, no matter how far away I'll be, I'll always have you with me no matter what." Spike said with a smile while Crystal smiled proudly hearing that from him.
"I'm gonna miss you Spike.. we all will.. but if you ever need to come back, don't hesitate to ask okay? You'll always have a place here with us." Twilight said calmly while she kept looking down at Spike who nodded hearing that.
"I will if I need to Twilight, you all just stay safe while I'm gone okay? I don't know how long we'll be gone, but we'll make sure to come back when the time is right, right mom?" Spike asked while looking at Crystal who nodded in agreement again hearing it.
"Of course, if anything happens to this place, I'll do my best to make it back here to help you all, it's the least I can do for you all helping take care of my child, I promise we'll come back once this has all been settled." Crystal assured too which they were all glad to hear.
"Thank you Crystal, you just be careful out there with him, none of us would want any harm to come to him." Luna advised again while Spike began heading back to his mother for them to leave.
"And please feel free to contact us if needed, we'll always be available if you need help too." Celestia repeated while Crystal smiled hearing that as she picked up Spike and placed him on her back.
"We will your highness, me and my child have a long journey ahead, but I promise you, I won't let anything harm him, but I'll also teach him what I know about our kind, and what I've learned over the years, and if your friend there wants to visit, just make sure she's ready for the journey." Crystal said as she looked at Smolder who only brushed that off.
"I'm not wanting to get in the way of your time together, but if I'm interested in seeing what those islands are like, I'll make sure I'm prepared." Smolder replied casually while they all just tried taking in these last moments together.
Even if it was hard to leave everyone so suddenly, he'll be able to see them again when he wants, but he also wishes to learn more about her, her family, and his kind, so whatever happens next, he's hopeful it'll all turn out well in the end.
"Well.. I guess it's time we get going then, I promise I'll be safe. You ready to go mom?" Spike asked as she started to raise her wings to take off.
"Of course, please make sure to hold on tight son." Crystal replied with a smile while they looked at everyone last time, and they all were waving goodbye for them.
"Please be careful Spike." Twilight said one last time while Spike only gave her an assuring smile again.
"You too Twilight. I'll see you all later, see ya." Spike concluded just as Crystal finally took off into the air at fast speeds, and everyone watched as she began making her journey with him to the Seasonal Islands, and everyone just hoped he'll be alright.
"See ya soon Spike." Smolder said proudly as they saw them fly off together, even if they all had their worries on what'll happen to him, as long as he'll finally get to learn more about himself and his family, they'll be alright with it. And they just hoped that they'll come back soon.
Author's Note
Thanks for reading this everyone! I am very, very sorry for the long wait on this chapter, I was just busy working on some other stories at the time, I couldn't find the time to update this one again, and seeing I didn't update it for the rest of 2024 really made me realize I had to update this story again soon. I am just extremely sorry it took this long to update again, I promise I'll finish this story at some point soon, and it won't take this long to update again, as well as making sure to update some stories I didn't update for the rest of 2024 too.
But I do hope that this chapter was good to you all aside from all that, even if I do felt like there was a bit more that could be done, this is still the start of the story, and there's a lot more I can do later on. It will draw similarities from a couple of my other stories, but I'll try to make the story the best it can be going forward.
While this story may not be much in terms of scope or stakes, I'm wanting it to be just a nice and heartwarming story about Spike reconnecting with his mother, it's a bit different then what else I've written at this point, and I hope your all interested in seeing where this goes in the future. Again, I am very sorry for not updating the story for the rest of 2024, but I'll try updating this whenever I can, I just hope that this chapter was good to you all, and you look forward to more of it! Thanks for reading this, and see you next time!
