For eighteen years, Princess Flurry Heart has been nurtured by her loving family with the idea that she is the future of the Crystal Empire. She has been prepared to be the Princess of "Hope" for her subjects. She has been programmed and her destiny has been predetermined.

She has been the center of attention for so long, some thoughts have started to itch in the back of her mind. Is she good enough to rule an empire? Does that even matter? Her mother, like every other alicorn, is immune to aging. Why bother follow her family's steps then? These ideas have revolved in her mind and she wonders if there is more in life than being a leader or a good example.

As Flurry has come of age, her parents decide it is time for her first Royal task:
