Dating a princess like Pipp was never going to be easy, you think to yourself. Considering that each of your dates must be posted on Ponygram for the whole of Equestria was awkward at first. The angry looks you get from stallions and mares when you walk around the town square doing your shopping. The constant cancellations due to an emergency at Mane Melody or at the Board Trot.
Yes, dating a princess like Pipp wasn’t easy. Yet when the days were to get long and you considered breaking it off; you go back to that date at the beach. Her radiant smile, her fluffy wings fluttering in the air as she tries to capture the right background for her next shots.The way her laugh just seemed to make the air itself sing along and at the end of it all she did something you didn’t expect. Turning off her phone and putting it in her bag. You asked her why and she just replied by leaning against you while you both sat on the same towel and letting out a soft hum. Her eyes closed as her head rested on your shoulder. You felt the compulsion to wrap your leg around her and pull her in closer as she slowed down her life to enjoy this moment.
And now it was your turn to return that kind of favor.
The day started out like any other. You woke up, got your mane back in style, got a bowl of cereal and milk to eat as you scrolled through your feed on your phone. It was an older model, the Saddlesung S10. Pipp once offered to set you up on the same plan she was on and even upgrade you to her model of phone, the Saddlesung S24, but you declined. You both were still roughly in the early stages of dating, far enough that you could visit her room at the castle in Zephyr Heights with only one background check rather than the usual five plus a drug screening. However, apart from cuddles and kisses on the cheeks; your relationship hasn’t gone much further.
Scrolling through, you saw the usual content that Pipp and her small tight group of friends posted. Hitch with pics of his baby dragon doing something cute, Sunny with either new smoothies she created or talking about some facts about the Equestria of the past. Today’s fact was that Twilight Sparkle once served as Headmare for a school of Friendship in addition to running Equestria as its one true Ruler. Zipp had some cool flying photos. Izzy was posting about her new creative work. Something that looked like it would take old food and turn it into new food though the video showed the prototype shooting a large amount of glitter from the output once she turned it on. Misty didn’t post as much as the others but she did take a pic of a cute butterfly on a flower. You decided to give that pic a hoof tap.
Though as you looked through a few of your other friends’ feeds, you slowly realized that you didn’t see any new posts by Pipp. Checking her social page on Ponygram you found that her last post was yesterday afternoon. It was strange. She usually had a video up around this time considering you were present during one of her late night editing sessions. You chuckle remembering how many times she asks for another one of her sister’s energy drinks as she worked herself to sleep cutting and splicing a new track she was about to release.
Thinking that she must not have anything prepared for the morning, you finish up your breakfast and go to the bathroom to relieve yourself and brush your teeth before it is off for a day of errands. First stop, a nice trip to the market for some produce and…
“Knock Knock Knock”
You pause staring at the door wondering who it could be. You weren’t expecting any company this morning and Pipp would send you a private message if she was coming over. You don’t remember any such plans as you reach the door and open it only to find Equestria’s other Princess Zipp standing there.
She looked a little worse for wear. Her hoof raised to knock on your door again and her mane mattered with a bit of sweat. Seeing that the door was open she quickly said “Hey is Pipp here with you?”
Blinking a bit, confused, probably showing on your face, you replied that no Pipp didn’t stay over here tonight and go on to add that you haven’t seen her since two days ago when you visited her at the Boardtrot.
“Okay then she must be in her room at the castle.” Zipp replied as she turned around and spread her wings. Before she has a chance to take off, you ask her what is going on. She turns around looking back at you for a moment before saying “Pipp has been missing since last night. I thought she came here to spend the night with you but it turns out she didn’t.”
You gasp in surprise. There was no way Pipp would just go do something like head home without at least telling her sister of all ponies. You quickly asked if you could come with her wanting to make sure that your marefriend was doing alright. You could see the brief hesitation flash in her eyes before nodding her head and saying “Alright come on. Hopefully it's just a case of homesickness.”
Zipp went on ahead being the fastest pegasus around and no doubt still worried about her sister and wanting to make sure she was okay. You quickly went back inside to grab your phone and then head out to Zephyr Heights. Along the way, you quickly looked through Pipp’s various social medias to see if there was something you might have missed. Upon closer examination, you start to notice that a few pics of yourself and Pipp had managed to reach the trending tab with a large amount of downvotes attached to it. Looking at the comments, you read through several users expressing their distaste, anger, and jealousy with several saying that you weren’t good enough to be with Pipp or that you were blackmailing Pipp into going on these dates. Some even go as far as saying you were just doing this to get into Pipp’s bedroom and have intercourse. You couldn’t help but snort at those comments.
“Intercourse? Really? By Haven we haven’t even so much as spent the night in the same room.” You think to yourself. Sure Pipp has come to your house when the Lighthouse was being too chaotic for her and yeah she did stay the night there. In fact a few of the pictures online were of Pipp entering your house as if to prove you had sex with her. “Idiots” You think as you turn the screen off and focus on the large de facto capital of Equestria. They don’t know that when Pipp does that you allow her to sleep on your bed while you sleep on the couch. Your house is a lot quieter compared to her residence at the Lighthouse after all and you do make sure to feed her something light before she flies back to have a full breakfast with her friends.
Zephyr Heights was always big, you mused as you quickly made your way towards the castle. Along the way you could feel the stares from the vast majority of the pegasuses that were there. It was no big secret that a majority of Pipp’s fanbase were from her hometown and no doubt seeing the pony who was dating her was causing their jealousy to flare up. You ignored them as you hurried along and soon you found yourself at the gates of the castle.
Once inside, after another background check, you quickly followed the hallways and corridors until you found yourself at the royal wing of the castle. You could see the guards and the maids busying themselves and soon enough the door to Pipp’s room was there. You could also see that Zipp was there pounding on the door.
Coming up to the door you hear Zipp asking through the wall “Come on Pipp. How come you are hiding in there? Talk to me.”
“Go Away!” A loud but familiar voice responds beyond the door. “I’m not coming out for the rest of my life.”
“Pipp you can’t stay in your room all the time. What about your salon? What about your fans?”
“My Fans?!” Pipp almost shrieked as something sounded against the door like she threw something at it “I don’t want anything to do with my so-called fans.”
Coming up alongside Zipp as she let out a defeated sigh; she turned her head to look at me and asked “Do you know what she is talking about? I’ve never seen her get this upset and she keeps talking about how her fans don’t care about her.”
You look up at the ceiling as your mind thinks it over, an old habit from when you would stare at the clouds during a test at school. You cast your mind back the past few days and the content that Pipp had posted. Her last few shots were of us being together during a day date ending with a picnic. You remember the comments were mostly positive though with the usual haters that show up. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.
Then you remembered how Pipp during that date was going on about a new feature being added to Ponygram. One that would make it easier for subscribers to send messages to their favorite content creators. She went on about how it would help her connect closer with her fans and being one of the top influencers on the platform and royalty, she was easily selected as one of the early testers of the features. You could recall her showing you the messages she was getting from other influencers. Wasn’t that system supposed to be implemented yesterday…oh.
Looking down and back at Zipp you asked “Do you mind if I talk to her?”
Zipp tilted her head a bit in confusion but nodded her head. Giving her a thanks, you move up to the door and gently tap on it before saying “Pipp it's me.”
You almost didn’t hear the gasp before Pipp responded with “You’re here?”
“Mmhm. Zipp told me you didn’t come back to the Lighthouse and she checked if you were staying with me for the night. We both were worried about you.”
Pipp didn’t reply but you almost could hear a whimper before her voice returned “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you worry.”
You smiled even though she couldn’t see it as you replied “I’m your coltfriend. It's part of my job to worry.” You reach down to the handle and to your surprise you find it unlocked. You guess that Zipp didn’t want to invade her sister’s privacy. Keeping a hoof to the door you asked “Can I come in?”
The response took almost a full minute during which time you heard some rustling before she finally said “Okay.” The tone sounded much more subdued compared to the vocal outrage she was having with her sister a few minutes ago that you hesitated a moment. Looking back at Zipp, she gave a nod of her head before you turned back to the door. Taking a deep breath, you open the door and step inside of Pipp’s Royal Bedchambers for the first time in your life.
The first thing that you noticed was that despite the sun shining through the closed off curtains; the room was oddly dark. Looking around, it was hard to make out shapes at first until your eyes started to adjust a little to the low light. Your first gaze was over to the bed where you could see a lump was formed in the middle. You guess that is where Pipp was hiding from the outside world. It was hard to make out colors but you could see a lot of pillows and even several stuffed animals resting on the bed as well. You will have to remember that when you get the bits to buy her a gift. A quick look around showed one door that was opened a bit to reveal a bathroom, another door that was closed but you guessed was a walk in closet. A large dresser with a mirror for when she had to do her mane and make up and of course a large desk that probably once had all of her equipment before she moved into the Lighthouse.
You take a step forward and close the door behind you. Taking another step and you feel something bump into your hoof. You look down and to your surprise you find Pipp’s phone. Putting two and two makes you realize that the thump on the door you heard earlier was said phone which shocked you. As far as you knew, Pipp treated her phone with great care.
You picked up the phone and took a closer look at it. The custom made case she had around it did its job of taking the brunt of the throw and you saw that the phone still turned on and its screen lit up. Seeing no other damage to it, you start to walk towards the large bed and sit down on the edge of it. You place the phone on her nightstand and say “How are you doing Pipp?”
You had other questions of course but your first priority was making sure she was okay. Her response was “No not at all.” as the bundle appeared to wrap itself around tighter.
Reaching over, you start to pet the lump with slow careful strokes as you say “Did it have something to do with that new VIP message board you were talking about.”
The lump seemed to relax a bit, becoming more oval than circular as she replied with a simple “uh huh.”
“Were the messages about me?” You asked
“Uh huh.” was her reply.
Closing your eyes and taking a small deep breath you ask “Did they voice their hatred of us being together.”
Pipp didn’t respond except with a choke that sounded like she was trying to hold back her tears. Seeing her like this broke your heart a bit as you think about how best to get her to open up. Reaching for your own phone, you look through your own feed and pull up a post you made a few months ago. It wasn’t much, just a silly selfie photo of the two of you with your tongues sticking out. It got a number of likes as most any pic that had Pipp in it but you were more focused on the comments. Pulling them up, you placed the phone down where you believed was in front of her and said “Take a look at this.”
You watched as the blanket shifted a bit and a head poke out a little from the blanket. You kept quiet as you waited for her to fully examine the photo.
“I remember that. I didn’t want to post it because I didn’t like how I looked in it. Why did you?” She said as her face was still obstructed from your view by her blanket.
“I posted it because it is something that I wanted to share with my friends. I wanted them to see the cute silly mare I was dating after all.” You replied with a smile gracing your face.
She let out a soft hum before saying “I have over a million ponies following me on Ponygram you know.” You nodded your head unsure where the conversation was going but kept silent “One thing that always worried me was that I felt like I wasn’t giving my fans enough chances to talk to me. To really get to know me you know. It was why I was so excited about that new VIP messages feature.” She paused for a moment as her body seemed to shrink “I know there were a few that didn’t like us dating. Trolls always plague me now and then after all. Yet these were just normal trolls. They were some of my most vocal supporters and yet to say all of those things about you…about us.”
She buried herself back into her blanket and I could hear her soft crying. You felt your heart break a bit at hearing the sound coming from her and you struggled to think of what to say.
Still even if you couldn’t think of something you did know what to do. Getting yourself fully on the bed, you slide yourself under the blanket that Pipp was hiding in. You could feel a few wet stains from her tears on the mattress as he shifted yourself next to her. She let out a soft gasp as you wrap your legs around her body and pulls her head against your chest.
You recall a little joke among her friends that Pipp was the smallest out of all of them. A cute little mare with a big beautiful voice. You didn’t realize it until now that Pipp was just the right size for a full body cuddle. Her head resting against your chest as her legs wrapped around your body in a grip that didn’t want you to leave. Not that you had any plans to. Your hoof easily reaches down and stroking her mane gently as you let yourself be used as a stuffed animal and a towel.
In time her crying dulled into small hiccups as she caught her breath. It was then that you said “Would you like to know what I think?”
She pulled her head back and looked up at you with her eyes open. You smile as you cup her cheek gently and say “I think that social media is both a blessing and a curse. You are able to keep in touch with friends who live so far away and yet it is so easy to say the dark things in your heart when you can hide behind a phone screen. When we started dating and you expressed your desire to share it with your followers; I knew that there were going to be those out there who appear to support us but in reality hate me for achieving something they desire. That said.” You pause as your hoof wipes a bit of tears from her eyes. “Our relationship is not one to be measured in the number of hoof likes, followers, and trending. Our relationship, like all those before, after and now, is one that we share together. The public moments we show the world and the private moments where the world is just us. That means for as long as you would have me; my goal is to get to know you more. Not just the social media icon or the pop star or the princess or even one of the saviors of all the magic of Equestria. My goal is to get to know all of Pipp Petals, the pony whose kindness and confidence shines like a star.”
Pipp seems to want to tear up again as she presses herself against your chest again. In a soft voice she says “I may be a pop star princess but my voice makes me strong. When my cutie mark comes to life my confidence helps me soar.” You blink as both of your cutie marks seem to glow and a magical projection of them appears in the air. You watch as the two seem to spin together in an almost dance before you feel something warm pressing up against your lips.
The taste of Pipp’s lips against your own. It was the first time you two have kissed like this and you find the sensation to be blissful. Her mane pressing up against your muzzle gives you deep whiffs of the many scented bottles of shampoo that she would use to keep her mane the way it was. Her lips tasted like eating a small cherry fresh from the vine. Her eyes closed tightly with the remains of tears still lingering on the edges while your eyes must have been wide open now.
The kiss lasted for minutes as you relaxed and pressed back against her own lips. Air seemed like a non issue as you both took the time to explore the contours of the others lips. Neither of you opened your mouth as you both felt it wasn’t the time. Right here under the blankets and with the light of your dancing cutie marks; this was a moment that you both wanted to preserve in your minds for the rest of your lives.
However, like many things in life it did have to end and you both pulled back slowly. Bits of saliva still connected your lips for a few moments longer before they snapped. You both looked at each other and you felt your heart beat faster as you saw her eyes returning to her usual glow.
She let out a chuckle as she said “You know I wanted to take a picture of our first real kiss.”
You blush a bit as you replied “Sorry.”
She shook her head “Don’t be. That moment is one that stays with us. However” She gives you a playful jab of her hoof on your chest “I do plan on taking lots of pictures when you take me out for smoothies and a walk on the Board Trot.”
You chuckle a bit and lean in to give her another kiss. This one was short and sweet; a confirmation of the planned date. Pulling back you asked “And your haters?”
She giggled from the kiss as he threw the blanket off you and her. Getting out of your grip as much as she didn’t want to, she stretched her body and said “As we were kissing I realized that I shouldn’t let those ponies put me down with their negativity. The only ponies I should truly care about are my mom, Zipp, Sunny, Hitch, Misty, Izzy and” She pauses as she looks at me with her eyes half lidded and a small smile gracing her lips “ you.”
You start to get up from lying down as she hops off the bed and grabs her phone. From your position you see her screen a bit and you watch her start to delete messages from her phone and even start to block some ponies. You don’t see much more as she starts to walk out towards her bedroom door where her sister must still be waiting for her.
You smile, thinking about the next date you will be sharing with a mare who is back to doing what she loves to do as you grab your phone and go to follow her.
