Spike groaned in pain as he stared at the sterile white ceiling above him. His left arm was in a cast and sling, his jaw was painfully swollen from where his teeth had been reinserted, and his ribs were cracked to hell and back from his landing. The scent of antiseptic burned his nose a tiny bit too. But the absolute worst part of being cooped up in this bed was that there was no Twilight to keep him company. Twilight would have smacked him for being so stupid, but he was already hurt. She settled for curling up into his side and enjoying his warmer than average body.

“So… I was wondering why Spike had such a growth-spurt. Is this…?” Celestia trailed off, there were many questions she could have asked, but the silence asked all of them.
“Spike and I have been… let’s call it seeing each other for a few weeks now. The relationship caused him to get bigger,” In more ways than one, but Twilight wasn’t going to explain that to her teacher.

“It really isn’t. Twilight when I gave you this assignment I was certain that Sombra would not be the insane threat that he proved to be. If I had known-“

It had taken a team of doctors with the Princesses helping to treat the dark magic’s effects on his body, but Spike would be okay.
“Regardless, I feel awful. Twilight, I promise that from now on I’ll do everything I can to better prepare you and your friends for major threats.”
“What can you do? What can normal guards and weapons do against threats that require the Elements of Harmony and Princesses to face?” Spike asked. The fact that the man who got hurt was the one being so forgiving hurt.
“I don’t know, but I’ll think of something. I promise. Spike, is there anything at all that I can do to make this up to you? Anything at all?”
Spike blushed just a tad at Celestia’s tone, it wasn’t sultry or anything, but hearing the most powerful woman in the world say these words to him was a little bit exciting-

Celestia’s face glowed red as she stared at Spike’s pride. Biting her lip, she decided to make an offer. Spike had earned some relief after everything. “I know a spell that can help with that,” She got up and approached Spike’s side. “If you’re both okay with me touching Spike for a few seconds.”
“You do? That would actually be pretty helpful I’m feeling really tired and can’t fall asleep like this,” Twilight gently rubbed Spike’s unharmed cheek.
