Song for Inlight
Chapter 3: The Mother's Heart
Previous ChapterNext ChapterInterlude: Outcast in the Lodge
Inlight walked across the path to the bed-houses, surrounded by buildings and campfires. Different crearures were returning to their homes, to their families, but Aspirants walked to the bed-houses, to take a final rest before the Proving.
Flame-maned pegasi arrived to the entrance of a tall, wooden building, with the griffon standing on guard. He walked upstairs, and was ready to enter the bed-housebefore...
"Motherless curse." Inlight stopped at the doorway after hearing the words of a griffon. Inlight didn't have enough patience for the end of the day, and simply ignore it? Never.
"What did you just say?" Inlight said without turning his head.
"Find your bed, outcast, and dream about winning the Proving. That's the closest you would get to it." Griffon stood his ground, holding spear by his side. Inlight, in turn, took the deep breath, and slightly turned his head to hunter, enough to see him.
"So this is a bed-house, huh?" Pegasi questioned. "With you on the guard, I figured it was the latrine!" And before griffon could argue even further, Inlight closed the door shut right infront of him. Guard in answer rolled his eyes, stood on his position again, and mumbled under his breath.
"Mgh, foals..."
But yet, problems for Inlight didn't end here.
"Ohh, if it isn't the motherless outcast! Are you lost?" Another griffon, the one with light-brown feathers and brown beak, made a mocking laugh as soon as pegasi outcast entered the bed-house. But Inlight groaned and moved forward, while griffon continiued.
"You really think you can come on the Proving and somehow become a part of the tribe? Or you came to win the Proving?" Griffon again made his mockery laugh, which this time, annoyed not only Inlight.
"Ugh, Sky Breaker, shut up already!" Another aspirant spoke, a blue changeling, which already tried to fall asleep and rest.
"You can say whatever you can, but it wont change that I, Sky Breakee, would win the Proving tomorow, not some outcast from some wilderness!"
Inlight was tired of it, that griffon would no let him normaly rest... or even anyone in the bed-house.
"You know, Sky Breaker," Inlight began to talk. "Even thought I was raised as an outcast, I heard one proverb which is pretty wise – confidence is silent. But yet I don't remember you shutting your beak once."
This studdered Sky Breaker for second but yet, he once again tried to open his mouth, but it was unexpectadly closed by a bright pink aura. Both creatures were confused, and turned their heads to who could possibly close his beak. A kirin with brown fur and yellow mane and tail, with lightened horn, covered in pink aura stood near them and watched with unamused exprecion of the face. She soon let loose of Sky Breaker's beak, and spoke.
"Calmed down, Sky Breaker? Because we all are fed up with your nonsence." She said aggresively, which made light-brown griffon stood back. He frowned, and took his walk to his bed. Kirin then turned her head to Inlight, and made a soft smile on her face.
"Don't mind him there, he always bark but no bite. You must be knew here. I'm Summerwind." Inlight stared at her for a moment, but then streched out his hoof.
"Inlight Dust." He introduced himself.
"No need for formalities, Inlight. We all here contestants. Tomorrow will decide who will win..." she then leaned forward and whispered to Inlight. "Don't say Sky Breaker that that would be me." That both made them giggle for a moment. But then Summerwind began to move to her bed, while speaking to flame-maned pegasi.
"You should rest, by the way." She yawned for a moment. "Might be a good idea..."
Inlight listened to her, and walked to his bed, taking his final rest before the Proving.
Pegasi sat on his bed, looking arrounf as other aspirants already laid for rest. The unease covered his face, as he continiued to look arround him.
"Nervous about the Proving, right?" Inlight turned his head to the Summerwind's voice, which came from pegasi's right. He turned his head to her, as she, with closed eyes, resting on her bed. Inlight didn't knew what should he answer, and stood silent for a moment, slowly turning his head from the kirin. She opened her eyes, and turned her head, looking at the Inlight.
"Never slept in a bed-house before, right?" She guessed, on which pegasi could only nod. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it soon or later."
"This place is... definetly interesting." To kirin's surprise flame-maned pony said.
"Eh, nothing so special, just a bed-house, you'll know later..." she closed her eyes once again, entering the deep sleep. Inlight looked at her for a second, thinking about the upcoming day. Tomorow will be the Proving, and after that – his answers. But not now, he needed to rest ar first. He laid down on a bed, closed his eyes, and left the lodge in silence for the rest of the night...
