FANG For a FANG

“A year… Twelve months. What could possibly change so much in a year that would change one’s whole life completely?” said a soft, familiar voice among a room full of old high school friends as she walked in. “Many things, I suppose,” she giggled, as the clouds outside rolled in, darkening the scene before them. The sound of thunder began grumbling in the background as the lady took her seat in front of the others and grabbed an apple from the table, tossing it up in the air. She was flanked by four others who looked anything but nice.“It’s been so long since we had a chance to catch up,” she continued before taking a bite of the apple, exposing two large fangs as she bit into it.
Surrounding her was a cozy country living room. Its drapes, patched chairs, and couch all screamed the word “country.” A large man with reddish-orange hair, mouth agape, stared and watched as the woman waltzed into the room as if she owned the place and proceeded to take a seat in his house hold. Surrounded by his , wife—a woman with purple hair—and their many friends, sat around a cake under a banner that read, “Happy one year anniversary to the Apples.”
The lady, dressed in leather, along with red high heels and dark blue jeans, contrasted with a bright yellow shirt featuring a pink butterfly. Her rosy pink hair was tied back in a ponytail, except for two bangs that framed her face. She wore no makeup of any kind—a pure natural beauty—with white gold and black gothic earrings. Eventually, she opened one eye halfway, exposing a bright teal iris, when they did not say a word at her arrival. “Hmm, oh,” she said, her mouth still half full. “Don’t mind them; they’re just my security,” she told her friends, thinking it was just those who came in along with her that had everyone so spooked. “Anyway,” she shrugged and turned her attention to the three young teenagers in the corner, “look at you, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, Scootaloo—you’ve gotten so tall since the last time I saw you!”
The three girls she called out, only shivered in the corner at the sight of her.
“And you, Rarity,” the woman continued, turning to a lady with purple hair and a simple but elegant white dress. “Still stunning, as I remember.”
“Twilight,” the woman gestured to the lady next to Rarity. “I heard about your scientific achievement in the paper the other day.” In response, Twilight could only stare blankly, blinking in awe. “I can see that after high school, you really have achieved your dreams; the same goes for Dash.” Dash, a girl with rainbow-colored hair, was dressed as if she had just come right out of the army. “Applejack,” she said, pointing to the farm girl sitting behind her brother, “and Pinkie.” The woman smiled as a girl with pink curls stood there, jaw dropped, wider than everyone else.
“I brought Gilda,” she said, pointing at a rough-looking lady on her right. Gilda wore her greasy hair in bangs but gave a friendly smile to the rainbow-haired woman across the room. “Sup, Dash,” Gilda gave in a cool, smooth fashion
“What in the world?” Dash gasped.
“Yeah, I knew you’d like to see her again, so I brought her. She was supposed to be my only security detail,” the woman remarked, lowering her eyebrow, clearly irritated as she emphasized the word "only."
“Forgive me, Miss Shy, but the boss put us on this assignment. We couldn’t refuse him, now could we?” replied a bored voice.
Shy rolled her eyes and lifted her head toward the man who spoke. “The one in the red trench coat here is Capper. Let me introduce you guys.” She half-sighed as she leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs, sitting comfortably, confidence radiating from her body language. “This,” she said, pointing one finger upward to indicate the big, oversized muscular man behind her, “is Bulk.”
Bulk was dressed head to toe in a thin black suit that, truth be told, looked too small for him. Even his tie and white collar couldn’t hide the oversized veins in his neck. His chest looked about ready to pop out of his jacket, held for dear life by one button on the front. He wore black sunglasses, had one gold ring in his left ear, and a black coms device on the other.
“This,” she pointed her finger at the guy on her left, “is Thorax.” Thorax gave a twitchy, nervous smile and an equally squirming wave below. He was the shortest of them and was clearly also the youngest. His brown, almost black, messy hair had green stripes in it, completely contrasting with Bulk's little blond shave for a haircut.
“Fluttershy-,” dash muttered echoing everyones thoughts at the moment. But it was another lady with fiery orange hair and a leather jacket that finished it.
-“What happened to you,”
“Oh, don’t worry, Sunset,” chuckled Fluttershy, sounding anything but the girl they used to know. “A lot has happened since I left high school, is all, but we’re still friends. And,” she took another bite of her apple as she spoke, not caring, “when I got the invitation to come to the little family reunion, I just had to see you. Besides, it gives me a good chance to tell you all the good news. I was going to call you soon because—” she then brought out her other hand that she had kept in her pocket the entire time. The crowd gasped at the sight of a golden band with a butterfly-shaped white diamond on her finger. “I’m getting married,” she ended, her lips curving into a smirk.
“What?!” they all yelled out in unison.
Fluttershy merely smiled. “Yep, remember Sugar Belle?” Fluttershy turned her gaze to a lady holding her own child. “We made a deal at your wedding, didn’t we? You said you would be my bridesmaid when it was my turn.”
“Oh wow! You have to tell us all about him—how you two met, how you fell in love, how he proposed, ohhh!” squealed a pink, bushy-haired girl who jumped across the table.
In seconds, Bulk leaped over Fluttershy and grabbed Pinkie by the front of her shirt.
“Easy, Bulk, easy! They’re my friends,” she commanded, snapping her fingers. With that, Bulk let go of her and set her down gently. “Forgive him, he’s only doing his job, even if he’s a bit,” she shrugged, “hard-headed.”
“How did you get so much security anyway?” asked Twilight, momentarily straightening her glasses. “Who is this guy you’re marrying?”
“Oh yes,” Fluttershy sighed. “I guess we should start from the very top.”
“Ahem, hate to interrupt here, but I must remind you that—”
“Capper, these are my friends,” Fluttershy raised her nose in the air. “And I shall not hide one aspect of my life from them. Is that understood?”
“But, ma’am, are they even trustworthy with—” he stopped when he turned his cat-like eyes on her, realizing she was glaring at him. With an eye roll, he stepped aside and leaned against the wall. “As you wish. Frankly,” he let a smirk grow across his face, “I am curious about how, in the world, a sun-side girl like you got mixed up with one of the most ruthless thugs I have ever met.” He gave a hearty laugh.
At his words, jaws dropped and gasps were heard all around as they turned back to Fluttershy.
“Da—my dear,” Rarity nearly fainted on the couch. “Please tell me that he’s lying.”
In response, Fluttershy giggled at their expressions of shock, worry, and fear. “Come now, Rarity, Twilight, Dash, Applejack, Sunset, Pinkie, and Sugar Belle,” Fluttershy let a conniving smile spread across her lips, her white fangs glistening in what little light shined from the window as the sun was slowly swallowed by dark clouds. “Let me tell you my story…”
A fang for a fang…
