A Princess's Falling Out

The sun rose slowly over Ponyville, as it usually did. Twilight Had been pacing around her room all night, her thoughts about the Mane six’s fight clouded her mind. This whole situation was keeping her tense.

“Why did I say those things?” Twilight questioned herself. Sure, she could lose her cool at times, but she wouldn’t go as far as to insult them the way she did, she was the Princess of Friendship after all! So why had those mean, awful words climb out of her mouth? It didn’t take long for Spike to figure out, and he was disappointed with Twilight. He soon packed his things and moved out, leaving Twilight utterly alone, feeling defeated.

Things hadn’t been the same since Spike left, as Twilight had been forced to be more independent than she would have liked. With no dragon to send scrolls magically, and how tiring it was to use her own magic, she had resorted to using the United Pony Postal Service, also known as the UPPS. Twilight had written to Celestia about her dilemma, and she could sense her teacher’s disappointment with her. As if this month couldn’t get any worse. Little by little, the negativity in Twilight grew, day by day it became more painful of a burden, till one day, it was just too much to bear.

“I need to visit Celestia immediately.” Twilight huffed to herself as she packed a few items to take on her tip. She was hoping to find counseling with Celestia, if not a way to solve her predicament.

The trip had become an easier task since Twilight had gained her wings, what would have been an hours journey became nothing but mere minutes. Twilight found that her anxieties grew with every second she got closer to the Canterlot Castle. All she could think about was the 'what if’s.' Twilight soon arrived at the castle and trotted through its front doors, worried about what could come from this talk. The hallway was as large as it was long, a set of five windows lined both the eastern and western walls. Four of the windows were the image of the four princesses, and the fifth window showed an Alicorn mare that was a couple shades of a darker purple than Twilight, her mane being an unsorted rainbow which was a deeper shade of colors than Rainbow Dash’s mane.

Wait, since when were there five windows, and who was the mare on the fifth window? Was there a new princess? Why wasn’t Twilight told of this? Many questions filled her head as she neared the throne room doors. Twilight drew in a deep breath and went to open the doors when she heard two ponies laughing. She decided to put an ear to the door and listen to who was in the throne room. One laugh, of course, belonged to Celestia. Any pony could recognize it. The other laugh, on the other hoof, wasn’t easy to identify, so Twilight assumed it belonged to the new mare. She listened in further.

“Oh, my faithful student. What pleasure you have brought me.” Celestia giggled, her voice was soft and warm, the sound filled the room. The unknown mare was laughing too hard to respond.

“F-faithful… Student..?” Twilight choked on the words, she could feel hot tears forming in her eyes. “W-was I…?” She was too afraid to finish her sentence. Feeling betrayed, Twilight ran back down the hall, her tears hitting the floor.

Luna, Princess of the Moon, sighed as she laid down a pony language book. “Why dost thou make books of such difficulties?!” Her Equestrian voice shook the whole library as it filled every square inch of the building. Every pony looked in the direction of where her voice came from, but no pony dared to shush her. Luna soon realized you can’t just yell in a public library the way she did. Embarrassed, she walked out of the library and paused in the street.

“Perhaps I shall go visit Twilight, she can help with my troubles.” Luna seemed happy with her decision and took off for Ponyville. The day was nice, there were hardly any clouds, and the sun shined brightly in the afternoon sky. One could see all three kingdoms from the height of which Luna soared. Luna liked to fly leisurely like this from time to time and just forget her responsibilities. At the center of her thoughts was Twilight, and it had been for a long time.

Both the Twilight guards that stood in front of the Castle of Friendship shook in their armor when they saw the Goddess of dreams heading their way. The stallions moved to the side as Luna entered the castle. “Twilight, ist thou present?” There was no response. “Twilight?” Luna started to become worried when all she could hear was the breeze from outside and the clanking of armor from out front. In a frantic panic, she dashed out of the castle and headed towards the treehouse library. If Twilight wasn’t in her castle, she would most likely be at her house.

Twilight looked at the mess in the mirror and that’s when she noticed it. Her cutie mark was gone, her sense of purpose faded. She couldn’t handle it anymore, her feelings, her loneliness, all of it. Twilight had planned to end it all swiftly, here and now. “Goodbye Equestria…” Twilight choked on the words, her mind trying to keep her from stalling any further. Twilight Charged her horn and aimed in the mirror. Right then, Luna came in through the front door.

“Twilight?!” Luna called out in a worried tone. She heard sobbing coming from upstairs and rushed up to see what was wrong. Luna gasped and took Twilight into her embrace, the spell bullet fired off trajectory and hit a flower. The flower withered and turned to dust. Twilight looked up at Luna, then buried her face into Luna’s chest as she cried as hard as she could. Luna’s heart was a flutter, she dreamed of holding Twilight close to her for months now.

Luna loved Twilight like a sister, and perhaps even more. Luna shook any selfish thoughts out of her head, she needed to be here for Twilight in the present moment. A warm, fuzzy feeling grew within Twilight. It was like when she used to hug her mother when she was just a filly. Twilight felt like she was needed, wanted, and even loved. “Now, what is this all about?” Luna asked, her voice was soft, but had an element of worry under it.

“Well…” Twilight sniffled. “I got into a fight with my friends-” Twilight rambled on for hours about how her month was, going into detail about almost every event that occurred to her.

“Oh, I see.” Luna said whilst sipping on a cup of tea. They had moved to a table downstairs. “The new mare is actually my student. Her name is Wish Aim. She isn’t exactly a princess like us yet, but she does possess Alicorn magic like us, and possesses princess-like qualities.” Wish Aim, this mare somewhat intrigued Twilight. It wasn’t everyday a mare with Alicorn magic showed up in Equestria.

“Wait, student?” Twilight asked, puzzled that Luna even had a student.

“I promised my sister I’d take the next mare. Turns out being a teacher isn’t as easy as you both portray it to be.” Suddenly, something clicked in Luna’s head. She realized she had gone hours without speaking words of the ancient times. All her hard work was paying off!

“Oh, I see.” Twilight chuckled. “It seems to be getting late now.” Twilight pointed out to Luna.

“Oh, quite right. I shall be off then.” Luna said as she went to leave. As she reached for the door thunder clapped, and it began to rain heavily. “On second thought, may I spend the night here Twilight?” Luna asked, not wanting to go outside at this time.

Twilight giggled. “Sure, I have a small bed under the bookshelf over here.”

Luna hated the rain, she thought it was a malicious thing that existed just to make every pony's day worse, plus it would have been hard to get home in the current weather anyway. Twilight went to a bookshelf and pulled out a shelf that had a mattress tucked in it. She then pulled out a couple sheets from the drawer on the left and made Luna’s bed. Luna thanked Twilight and climbed into bed. Twilight went and got herself ready for bed. Shortly after she climbed under the covers and laid her head on her pillow, pulling up the covers. She sighed, a smile on her face as she closed her eyes.

Tomorrow is another day.
