You take a calming breath. "Channel your inner AJ!" You take a slower breath. "Shoot, pardner, can't do somethin' based on a lie!" You throw one hoof in front of yourself and nod. "Let's come clean. Everypony makes a mistake sometimes. Doesn't mean this wasn't a fun party." You stamp a hoof against the ground. "We've got gifts! They can go to ponies who want them! All we need to do is hand them out. We just tell the truth and there's no problem!"

You feel confident! Sure, it was a slip up, but that didn't mean you couldn't fix things.

Filled with renewed vigor, you emerge from your profiling basement and march on the town square. "Everypony's having fun! Let's keep that up." You clear your throat. "Everypony! Your attention please!"

You blink with surprise as ponies fall silent. "Well, that worked. I had this whole speech prepared." You trot over to the presents. "So, it turns out, this isn't actually the birthday of the pony I thought it was. If one of these presents are yours, you may take it back. The presents that are still here in an hour? I'm tearing them open and they go to whoever wants 'em! This party isn't stopping. Let's celebrate Ponyville and all the happy ponies in it."

Ponies clap and cheer at your speech. With a smile, you drift back towards the sidelines, keeping an eye on things. That is until you bump into somepony else.

"So sorry."

Oh, it's the original protagonist. Who you are again.

You pat Pinkie on the shoulder gently. "Looks like you're bouncing back, good. I didn't mean to make your evening bad. You're a good pony, Pinkie."

She beams at you. "You mean that?"

"Yup! Never met somepony as joyful as you." You nudge her lightly with a wink. "Keep up the good work. And I look forward to that party when it's on the right day." You give Pinkie a hug to show you mean it. "Let's have fun with this party you already went through the trouble of making."

Pinkie drags you off to join in the singing and dancing. You join in with gusto, doing your best to keep up with her. For the first time in a long while, you find yourself genuinely having a great time in Ponyville, and everypony else seems to be in the groove.

The end.
