In the land of Equestria, most bat ponies were fairly simple, elegant creatures, widely considered to be nothing more then slightly more brooding and uppity variants of pegasi as they flitted about in the sky and went about their business.
What most ponies did not know however was that there were actually several different types of bat pony, and the ones that flitted about in the sky and made brooding poems were just one of the many types that had mostly died out in the years following the banishment of Luna to the moon. Not all of them had gone extinct however, and some of them were even thriving in the new civilized world that had followed after Luna had returned.
She was one of the lucky ones. Almost as graceful as her kin, but seeming much more bestial in her appearance. Silent, strong, deadly. Her name was Jacky Bloodfang. Nobody knew if that was her actual name or just a moniker, and while most people who gave themselves such names went on to join rock bands and commit to a goth lifestyle, she had earned the name on the battlefields and war zones where colorful ponies had no place.

Well that was simple. It was spa day.

The little mare behind the wooden counter nodded, then waved a hoof towards the set of double doors that led into the spa proper.
“The spa is that way, I’ll just get your slippers.”
“Slippers?” Jacky asked, a low growl in her voice that she hadn’t intended.
“Yes. They have a special grip on them to keep you safe on the floor. They’re complimentary!”
The mare turned, busy digging through a box behind the counter. Jacky tried to not loom too threateningly behind her and instead examined the small waiting room. A waiting room in a spa was a bit of an oddity, but this was one of the best spas, so it made sense they might not always have enough room for everyone.
The room was small, and there were only four stairs stacked up against the back wall, but between them was a table piled high with books and magazines.
