The sorcerers in Equestria: A battle for friendship
The beginning of the end (part 2)
Previous ChapterAs the last of the Elements of Harmony crumbled into dust, a heavy silence fell over the room. Twilight Sparkle knelt by the broken pieces, her eyes wide with shock, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She had always believed in the power of the Elements—of friendship—but now they were gone. How could they possibly defeat Sombra without them?
The jujutsu sorcerers and the Mane Six exchanged glances. There was no time to panic, no time to mourn the loss. Sombra stood before them, his dark laughter echoing through the throne room, his eyes gleaming with malevolent satisfaction.
“Did you really think it would be that easy?” Sombra sneered, his horn glowing with dark energy. “The Elements of Harmony were a crutch—a tool you relied on for far too long. But now, they are nothing.”
Twilight’s mind raced as she frantically tried to think of a solution. She had been in tight spots before, but this felt different. She didn’t have the Elements, and her friends—all of them—were in danger.
Rainbow Dash growled, her wings flaring. “We don’t need the Elements to kick your butt, Sombra!”
Yuji clenched his fists, his cursed energy flaring. “She’s right! We’re not giving up that easily.”
But before any of them could make a move, Sombra’s dark magic surged forward. With a wave of his horn, jagged rocks burst from the ground, encasing each of them in separate stone prisons. The rocks glowed with an eerie energy, blocking out both magic and cursed energy.
Twilight’s horn sparked as she tried to cast a spell, but nothing happened. She was trapped, her magic useless. The others struggled against the stone, but the more they fought, the tighter the prison became.
“You’ll never win, Sombra!” Applejack shouted, trying to buck against the rocks, but they wouldn’t budge.
Sombra chuckled darkly, his eyes gleaming with triumph. “I already have. With the Elements destroyed and your magic nullified, Equestria is mine. And once I’ve crushed this little rebellion, I will spread my rule to all corners of your world.”
He turned, his dark cape billowing behind him as he strode toward the exit of the throne room. “Enjoy your final moments together. When I return, I will claim what is rightfully mine.”
With a flash of his magic, Sombra disappeared, leaving the Mane Six and the jujutsu sorcerers trapped in their stone prisons. The room was silent except for the sound of their breathing, each of them processing the weight of what had just happened.
For a long moment, no one spoke. Then, slowly, panic began to set in.
“I can’t move!” Pinkie Pie said, her voice trembling. “I can’t feel my hooves!”
Rarity’s voice wavered with fear. “Darling, what are we going to do? Without the Elements…without our magic…we’re helpless.”
Fluttershy whimpered softly, her eyes filled with tears. “We’ve lost…he’s going to take over Equestria.”
Yuji, still straining against his prison, gritted his teeth. “No, we can’t give up! There has to be a way out of this.”
Twilight, though her body was trapped, closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “I know we’re scared,” she said, her voice wavering but resolute. “But we can’t lose hope. The Elements may be gone, but friendship isn’t.”
She looked around at her friends—both the ponies and the jujutsu sorcerers. “We’ve faced impossible odds before. And we’ve always come through because we’ve had each other. Sombra thinks he’s won, but we’re not alone. We have something stronger than magic. We have each other.”
The ponies nodded, finding strength in Twilight’s words. But as they reassured one another, Gojo’s usually easy-going demeanor turned uncharacteristically serious. His thoughts drifted far away from Equestria, to the people he had left behind.
Utahime… Ijichi… Shoko… Nanami.
For the first time in a long time, a sense of helplessness gnawed at Gojo. He couldn’t protect them here. He had always been so confident, so sure of his power, but now, in this strange world, cut off from his cursed energy, he was no different from the others. Powerless.
He clenched his fists, his heart heavy. Utahime’s stern voice echoed in his mind, reminding him of their arguments, their camaraderie. He thought of Ijichi’s nervous face, Shoko’s dry wit, Nanami’s unwavering reliability. These were the people he had fought alongside for so long—people he cared about. And here he was, unable to help.
Yuji, noticing Gojo’s uncharacteristic silence, glanced over. “Sensei? Are you okay?”
Gojo snapped out of his thoughts, his usual grin returning, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Of course, I’m okay. Just thinking about how we’re going to get out of this mess.”
But as the sorcerers and ponies tried to come up with a plan, Twilight focused on the broken pieces of the Elements of Harmony scattered around her. Her mind raced, recalling every lesson she had learned about the Elements, about the Tree of Harmony, about the magic of friendship.
There had to be a way to fix them.
As Twilight tried to piece together the shattered Elements of Harmony, her horn glowing weakly, Gojo silently stepped forward, surveying the situation with narrowed eyes. He could feel the crushing weight of Sombra's magic still lingering in the air, and it gnawed at him that they were running out of time.
Twilight, her breath coming in quick, frustrated gasps, finally stepped back from the broken fragments. "It's no use," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I can't fix them… and without the Elements, we can't stop Sombra. Everypony we care about is in danger."
Her words hung in the air like a heavy cloud, and the group stood in silence for a moment, feeling the hopelessness sink in. Yuji frowned, stepping up beside Twilight. “There’s got to be something else we can do. We can’t just give up now.”
But before anyone else could speak, Gojo chuckled softly. It was the kind of laugh that carried a dangerous sense of ease, the kind that only came when he had a plan—no matter how reckless.
"Looks like it’s time for me to take charge," Gojo said, his voice casual but with a hint of authority that made everyone look at him. He crouched down, tracing his finger along the ground, drawing strange, intricate symbols in a large circle around the group.
Yuji, confused but trusting his teacher, tilted his head. “Uh, sensei? What are you doing?”
June, also unsure, added, “Are we supposed to just… stand here?”
Gojo smirked, glancing at his students. “Trust me. You’ll see soon enough.”
The symbols began to glow faintly as Gojo’s cursed energy poured into them. Twilight, still frazzled from her failed attempt to repair the Elements, looked at him curiously. “Gojo, what…?”
“We don’t need to fix the Elements,” Gojo said, standing up and brushing his hands together. “We just need to be where Sombra is.”
Yuji’s eyes widened in realization. “You’re going to teleport us?”
Gojo nodded, the symbols around them starting to hum with energy. “Exactly. Sombra thinks he can run this place like his little personal playground, but I’m not in the mood to let him have his fun.” He glanced at Twilight. “You ready to take on a whole brainwashed kingdom?”
Twilight swallowed, still worried about the mind-controlled ponies, but she nodded. “We don’t have a choice. We need to save them.”
The energy surged around them, and in an instant, the group was enveloped in light. The ground beneath them seemed to shift and warp, and before they knew it, they were no longer in the shattered throne room.
They appeared in the heart of Ponyville, but the place was unrecognizable. The once cheerful and vibrant town was draped in dark shadows, the buildings lined with ominous black crystals. Ponies moved about the streets like hollow shells, their eyes glowing green under Sombra’s dark influence.
Twilight gasped. “No… Everypony…”
As they moved through the town, they saw familiar faces—friends, neighbors, all under Sombra’s control. The Cakes, who owned Sugarcube Corner, were standing outside their shop, working with blank expressions to bake what looked like a hideous black cake, oozing with darkness. On top, in sickly green icing, the words "For King Sombra" were scrawled.
Twilight rushed forward, her heart aching at the sight. “Mr. Cake! Mrs. Cake! Can you hear me?”
But they didn’t respond, their eyes glowing with the same sickly green light that haunted every other pony.
Twilight tried casting a spell to break Sombra’s control, but nothing happened. “It’s not working,” she said, panic rising in her voice. “I can’t snap them out of it!”
Yuji clenched his fists. “This is bad. We’ve got to do something.”
But Gojo didn’t seem fazed. He observed the scene with a calm smile, hands in his pockets. “Looks like Sombra’s got them pretty deep under his spell. Guess it’s not as simple as just knocking them out of it.”
Twilight, desperate, tried again to use her magic, this time aiming at a group of ponies gathering at the town square. But once more, her spell fizzled out uselessly. “Why isn’t this working?!”
Gojo sighed, tilting his head thoughtfully. “Sombra’s dark magic is strong. It’s woven into the fabric of their minds. You won’t be able to break it with just normal magic.”
Nobara looked around at the mind-controlled ponies, her usual smirk gone. “So what do we do? We can’t just leave them like this.”
Gojo finally turned to face the group, his expression serious for once. “First, we find Sombra. Stopping him is the key. Break his control, and everyone else will be free.”
Twilight nodded, though her heart was heavy with worry for her friends. "But where could he be? How do we find him?"
As Gojo stood, quietly contemplating their next move, his keen eyes scanned the darkened, twisted streets of Ponyville. Amid the blank-faced, mind-controlled ponies wandering aimlessly, one figure caught his attention. His heart skipped a beat.
It was Utahime.
She moved like the others, her eyes glowing with that eerie green light, her expression vacant. Gojo’s usually carefree demeanor faltered for just a moment as he stepped forward, pushing his way through the scattered ponies until he stood directly in front of her.
"Utahime..." he murmured softly.
She didn’t respond. Her gaze was distant, focused on nothing as she walked past him, completely oblivious to his presence. Gojo's heart tightened at the sight. This wasn’t the sharp, no-nonsense Utahime he knew. This was a puppet of Sombra’s dark magic, stripped of her will.
Without thinking, Gojo reached out. He gently cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs brushing against her cheeks with surprising tenderness. For a moment, he forgot about the danger around them. All he could see was her, lost in this horrible spell, and the thought of her like this made something deep inside him stir—something protective.
"Utahime…" he whispered again, this time with more urgency. His usual playful tone was gone, replaced by something softer, more vulnerable. "Come on… wake up."
But she remained unresponsive, her eyes still glowing with that unnatural green light. Gojo gritted his teeth. He could feel the cursed energy inside him stirring, but the dark magic surrounding her was strong, making it difficult for him to break through.
He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing, letting his cursed energy flow gently through his hands. It wasn’t brute force that would snap her out of this—it was something else. Something softer. He knew she’d be furious later, but right now, all that mattered was getting her back.
"You're stronger than this," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I know you are."
Slowly, the green glow in her eyes began to flicker, the dark magic struggling to hold its grip. For the briefest moment, her eyes met his, and the vacant expression softened just slightly.
Then, without warning, there was a loud crash behind them. The ground shook, and the air was suddenly filled with the sound of crackling branches and roaring winds.
“Uh, guys?” Yuji called out, his voice laced with concern. “I think we’ve got another problem!”
Gojo reluctantly released Utahime’s face, his attention snapping to the commotion. In the distance, the Everfree Forest had come alive—or more accurately, out of control. The thick, twisted vines and branches that usually stayed deep within the forest were now creeping into Ponyville, growing wild and untamed, spreading like a plague across the land.
Twilight gasped as she saw the thick vines creeping closer, their thorny branches stretching toward the town like dark tentacles. “The Everfree Forest! It’s… it’s out of control!”
Applejack’s eyes widened. “This ain’t good. That forest’s got a mind of its own on a good day. If it’s runnin’ wild, we’re in serious trouble!”
Yuji, always quick to jump into action, spotted a nearby cart full of old gardening tools—shovels, shears, rakes, anything that could be used to fight back the invading plant life. With a determined grin, he grabbed a bundle of tools and tossed them to the others.
"Here, take these!" Yuji called out as he flung a shovel toward Applejack, who caught it with ease.
"Uh, Yuji, you think gardening tools are gonna stop *that*?" Rainbow Dash asked, eyeing the rapidly approaching vines with a skeptical glance.
Yuji grinned, his usual confidence shining through. “It’s worth a shot!”
The ponies and jujutsu sorcerers grabbed what they could. Applejack wielded her shovel like a seasoned pro, cutting away at the nearest vines. Twilight used her magic to hold some of the larger branches at bay, though her magic still felt weak against the growing chaos.
“Keep cutting them back!” Twilight shouted. “We need to keep them from reaching the town!”
As the group frantically worked to keep the vines at bay, Gojo turned back to Utahime, whose eyes were now clear but filled with confusion. She blinked, her usual sharpness slowly returning as she realized where she was—and who was standing in front of her.
“Gojo…?” she muttered, her voice hoarse. “What—what happened? Where am I?”
Gojo let out a small, relieved laugh. “You were… under a bit of a spell. But you’re back now.”
Utahime’s eyes flickered with frustration as she processed everything, but before she could snap at him for his usual casual attitude, she saw the chaos around them—the vines creeping ever closer, the mind-controlled ponies stumbling through the streets.
"What's going on?" she asked, still disoriented but quickly regaining her composure.
Gojo flashed his usual grin, though this time there was a glint of sincerity in his eyes. "Long story, but we’ve got a kingdom to save. Mind lending a hand?"
Utahime sighed, brushing herself off. “Let’s just get this over with.”
Gojo turned his attention back to the chaotic forest and the spreading vines. They were resilient, far more than any ordinary plants, but he was sure they could hold them off—at least for now.
Yuji, hacking at the vines with a hoe, called out, “Gojo, any bright ideas?”
Gojo grinned. “Just one. Let’s stop the forest from taking over, then we’ll deal with Sombra.”
Twilight, panting from the strain of holding back the vines, looked at Gojo with renewed hope. “If we can stop the Everfree Forest, we might have a chance to regroup and come up with a plan.”
As the vines pressed in closer, the group braced themselves for another intense fight. The fate of Equestria hung in the balance, and with Sombra still at large, the battle was far from over.
But with their friends by their side, they were ready to face whatever came next.
As the group fought against the rapidly encroaching vines, Yuji, sweating from the effort, swung a rake at one of the larger, thornier branches. He grinned, despite the chaos around him, and muttered under his breath, “Man, I could really use Chainsaw Man right about now…”
Megumi groaned, slashing at the vines with a set of gardening shears. “Yuji, not the time for your anime references.”
Nobara, smacking down a vine with a shovel, shot him a look. “Seriously, shut up, Yuji!”
Before Yuji could respond, a brilliant flash of light lit up the sky, so blinding that the group had to shield their eyes. The oppressive weight of the Everfree Forest’s chaotic magic lifted in an instant, and when the light faded, the vines that had been swallowing the town were no more. In their place stood Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, their regal forms glowing with immense power. Standing beside them was none other than the legendary wizard, Starswirl the Bearded, his ancient eyes twinkling with magic.
Twilight gasped, her heart soaring with relief. “Princess Celestia! Princess Luna! Starswirl!”
Celestia, her mane flowing in an ethereal breeze, smiled warmly at her former student. “Twilight, we sensed the disturbance and came as quickly as we could.”
Luna, her sharp gaze taking in the remnants of the chaos, nodded grimly. “It seems Sombra’s dark magic is spreading far beyond the Crystal Empire.”
Starswirl stepped forward, his horn glowing with residual magic from obliterating the vines. “The Everfree Forest is under control—for now. We will handle this while you and your friends continue to confront Sombra.”
Twilight, still panting from the effort of holding back the vines, bowed her head in gratitude. “Thank you, all of you. But we still need to stop Sombra before he takes over all of Equestria.”
Celestia stepped closer, her expression somber. “Go quickly, Twilight. Time is running out, and Sombra’s control is growing stronger.”
Twilight nodded, determination flickering in her eyes. “We will.”
With the vine threat neutralized, the sorcerers and ponies wasted no time. They charged toward Sombra’s dark castle, its once crystalline spires now corrupted by thick, black magic. The sky above it churned with storm clouds, and an oppressive energy radiated from the structure.
As they approached the castle, the group encountered throngs of mind-controlled ponies—unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies—all under Sombra’s thrall. Their eyes glowed the same eerie green, and they blocked the way forward, determined to stop any who would oppose their dark king.
Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi stepped forward, ready to fight. "Looks like we're going to have to go through them," Megumi muttered, summoning his cursed shadow creatures to help.
Applejack cracked her neck, tightening her grip on the shovel she'd been using. "Let’s get to it, then!"
The battle was fierce. The mind-controlled unicorns hurled blasts of dark magic, while pegasi swooped down from the sky, their wings like sharp blades. Earth ponies charged with incredible strength, and it was all the group could do to hold their ground.
Twilight and Rarity threw up magical shields to protect their friends, while Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy worked to disarm the attacking pegasi. Meanwhile, Yuji leapt into the fray, dodging blasts of magic and knocking out enemies with precision strikes. Nobara expertly used her Straw Doll Technique, pinning enemies in place, while Megumi’s Shikigami tore through the battlefield with savage efficiency.
Despite the strength of the mind-controlled ponies, the combined forces of the jujutsu sorcerers and the Mane Six slowly pushed their way forward. Twilight was about to teleport them closer to the castle when they were suddenly stopped by a familiar sight.
At the entrance to the castle stood Nanami and Shoko, both under Sombra’s control, their eyes glowing that unnatural green. Nanami stood stoically, his cursed energy radiating off him in dangerous waves, while Shoko’s usually calm demeanor was replaced with a cold, unfeeling gaze.
Yuji’s heart dropped. “Nanami… Shoko-sensei…?”
Nobara gritted her teeth. “No… not them too.”
Twilight, realizing the gravity of the situation, knew they couldn’t afford to fight their own allies—especially not Nanami, whose power was formidable even on a normal day.
“Twilight!” Yuji called out, panic edging into his voice. “What do we do?!”
Twilight quickly made a decision. Her horn flared with magic, and in an instant, she teleported herself, Yuji, Nobara, Megumi, and June alng with he ane six into the castle, leaving the mind-controlled Nanami and Shoko behind for now.
They reappeared inside the dark, twisted halls of the castle, the air thick with the stench of Sombra’s magic. The sudden change in atmosphere was almost suffocating. The walls shimmered with black crystals, and the shadows seemed to move as if alive, whispering threats in an ancient, dark language.
Yuji stumbled forward, still reeling from the shock of seeing Nanami and Shoko like that. “Sensei… we need to help them.”
Twilight, though focused on the mission, nodded in agreement. “We will. But right now, we need to get to Sombra. If we can stop him, we can free everyone—including Nanami and Shoko.”
June, who had been quiet, looked down at her hands, clenching them into fists. “He’s using them, just like the others. We can’t let this continue.”
Nobara, shaking off her initial shock, huffed. “No way am I letting Sombra get away with messing with our people.”
Megumi, always the strategist, surveyed the dark hallways. “We don’t know where Sombra is hiding, but we’ll need to be ready for anything. He’s not going to make this easy.”
Twilight’s eyes narrowed as she led the way deeper into the castle, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and determination. “We’ll find him. And when we do, we’ll make sure he never hurts anyone again.”
With their resolve stronger than ever, the group pressed forward, ready to face whatever horrors awaited them in the dark heart of Sombra’s twisted castle.
As Twilight and the others made their way deeper into the twisted halls of Sombra's castle, the oppressive energy only seemed to grow stronger. The air was thick, almost suffocating, and the dark magic seemed to press down on them with every step. Just when it seemed like the weight of the atmosphere was too much to bear, there was a sudden *pop* sound from behind them.
"Well, well, well, what have we here?"
Everyone whipped around to see Discord, floating lazily in the air, a mischievous grin on his face. As usual, he seemed completely unaffected by the dark magic surrounding them. What was more, he was holding a jar of pickles, which he casually plucked from and chewed with loud, deliberate crunches.
"Oh, don’t mind me," Discord said between bites, hovering directly above June and Nobara, dangling the pickles just inches above their heads. "Just enjoying a snack while I watch you all struggle. Quite entertaining, really."
Nobara immediately scowled, glancing up as a pickle dangled precariously close to her hair. "Seriously? Now? Could you *not* eat pickles over our heads?"
June shot him a glare as well, wiping off a few drops of pickle juice that had landed on her. "Yeah, gross."
Discord chuckled, completely unfazed. “I can’t help it, darling. Watching you all struggle to save Equestria gives me an appetite.” He crunched another pickle loudly and offered the jar to Yuji with a sly grin. "Care for one?"
Yuji, too focused on the situation, waved his hand dismissively. “We don’t have time for this, Discord! Sombra’s controlling everyone, and we’re trying to save Equestria.”
Discord sighed dramatically, tossing the empty pickle jar aside, which turned into a cloud of confetti as it hit the ground. “Oh, I know, I know. Dark magic, mind control, yadda yadda yadda.” He stretched out his limbs in an exaggerated yawn, floating lazily in the air. “But really, why is everyone so *serious* all the time? It’s so *boring*.”
Twilight stepped forward, her patience visibly thinning. “Discord, we need your help. Sombra’s forces are all over the place, and we’re not going to get to him if we keep getting held up.”
At this, Discord’s chaotic eyes sparkled with a bit more interest. He glanced at the jujutsu sorcerers, his grin widening. “Oh, so you’re actually asking for my help? My, my, what a delightful turn of events! I do enjoy being *needed*.”
Megumi, ever the skeptic, crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. “Are you actually going to help, or are you just going to make things worse?”
Discord’s grin only widened. “Oh, come now, Megumi! Have a little faith.” He snapped his fingers, causing a cascade of rainbow sparkles to float around the group before they quickly evaporated.
Just as Yuji was about to retort, the sound of hooves pounding against the stone floors echoed through the hallway. A group of palace guards, their eyes glowing with Sombra’s dark magic, charged toward them, armored and ready to attack.
Twilight's horn flared up, but before she could cast a spell, Discord lazily waved his paw. "I suppose I could lend a hand… or a claw. Whatever."
With another snap of his fingers, the charging guards were suddenly suspended mid-air, their hooves kicking in confusion as they hovered above the ground in bubbles of translucent, chaotic magic. The guards flailed helplessly, their weapons clattering to the ground, while Discord casually floated next to them, inspecting his nails. “Really, Sombra could’ve used more creativity with his minions. They're all so dreadfully serious.”
The sorcerers, though usually wary of Discord’s chaotic nature, exchanged grateful glances.
“I’m not gonna lie, that was actually helpful,” Yuji admitted, looking up at the floating guards.
Even Nobara, though still wiping pickle juice off her hair, begrudgingly nodded. “Okay, I’ll give you that. But can you stop with the pickles?”
Discord snapped his fingers, and the remaining pickles above their heads transformed into harmless little clouds that drifted away. He winked at Nobara. “There, better?”
She rolled her eyes but didn’t argue, relieved to be free from the random snack rain.
Twilight, realizing that Discord was actually being helpful for once, nodded in appreciation. “Thank you, Discord. Now we can focus on getting to Sombra.”
Discord floated in front of them, striking a dramatic pose. “Yes, yes, all part of the glorious plan! Saving the day, helping friends, eating pickles—ah, what a wonderful life I lead.”
June looked at him skeptically. “I still don’t trust him.”
“I wouldn’t either,” Megumi muttered under his breath.
But despite their complaints, the group continued forward, with Discord trailing lazily behind, occasionally adding little flourishes of chaos to their path. When another set of guards appeared in the hallway, Discord snapped them away with little more than a flick of his fingers, sending them floating harmlessly into the air. For the first time, the sorcerers found themselves grateful for his particular brand of chaos.
As they neared the central throne room of the castle, Twilight’s heart raced. “This is it,” she said, her voice tight with anticipation. “Sombra’s in there. We have to end this.”
Discord floated ahead, peeking around the corner with a playful smirk. “Oh, this is going to be *fun.* I do love a good showdown.”
Without another word, Twilight teleported the group inside the dark, oppressive throne room, where the final battle with Sombra awaited them.
The group burst into Sombra’s throne room, the air thick with dark energy. At the far end of the room, on a towering, twisted throne of black crystal, sat King Sombra himself, his eyes glowing a sinister green, his horn crackling with dark magic. His wicked grin spread wider as he noticed their arrival.
“Ah, Twilight Sparkle,” Sombra sneered, his voice dripping with malice. “And your little friends from another world. How convenient of you to deliver yourselves to me.”
Before anyone could react, Sombra’s horn lit up, and with a booming roar, he unleashed a torrent of dark magic aimed directly at the sorcerers and June. The attack surged across the room with terrifying speed, and the sorcerers barely had time to register the danger before it was upon them.
Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi barely had a moment to brace themselves as the magic closed in, eyes wide in shock.
“Watch out!” Twilight screamed, but it was too late.
In an instant, Discord zipped forward, snapping his fingers with a dramatic flourish. A shimmering, chaotic shield of energy appeared in front of the group just as Sombra’s attack struck. The dark magic crashed into Discord’s barrier and was deflected with a blinding flash, sending the energy ricocheting harmlessly away.
June, still trembling from the near-miss, gasped. “That was close…”
The sorcerers let out collective sighs of relief, realizing they had narrowly avoided being blasted by dark magic.
Yuji exhaled shakily. “Thanks, Discord. That was—”
But before he could finish, Sombra launched another volley of dark energy toward them, this time even more powerful. Once again, Discord effortlessly flicked it aside, yawning dramatically as he did so.
“Oh, please,” Discord said, brushing imaginary dust off his shoulder. “Is this the best you’ve got, Sombra? I expected at least a little creativity. You call yourself a dark lord, but your attacks are so... predictable.”
Sombra growled in frustration, his eyes narrowing. “You insolent creature! You will regret interfering with my plans!”
Discord, however, was completely unfazed. “Oh, I’ve heard that before,” he said with a smug grin. “Do you know how many ‘dark lords’ I’ve dealt with? You’re really not that special.”
As Discord continued to effortlessly deflect each of Sombra’s attacks, he turned his attention back to the ponies and sorcerers, floating above them casually. “So, as I was saying earlier, Twilight,” he began, his tone light, “after we deal with this whole ‘Sombra taking over Equestria’ nonsense, I’m thinking we should really spruce up your castle. You know, maybe add a slide or two, a few floating chairs. Really liven the place up.”
Twilight blinked, clearly confused by Discord’s sudden change of topic. “Discord, now is *not* the time—”
But before she could finish, Discord was hit square in the chest by one of Sombra’s bolts of dark magic. The attack sent him flying backward, crashing into the far wall with a loud, echoing thud.
“Discord!” Fluttershy cried out, her voice trembling as she rushed toward him, tears welling up in her eyes.
The room went eerily quiet as the sorcerers and ponies processed what had just happened. Discord, who had been so effortlessly playful and carefree, now lay motionless against the wall, his usual chaotic energy dimmed.
Fluttershy knelt beside him, her voice shaking. “D-Discord? Please, say something…”
For once, Discord didn’t respond with a quip or a joke. His eyes flickered weakly, and his form seemed to shrink slightly as he tried to sit up. “Oh dear… That… stung a little more than I expected.”
Fluttershy’s tears flowed freely now, her face filled with worry. “You’ll be okay, right? You’re always okay…”
The sorcerers, though not as emotionally close to Discord, couldn’t help but feel the weight of the moment. Yuji’s usual smile faltered, and he shifted uncomfortably, guilt bubbling up inside him.
“We… we should’ve been more careful,” Yuji muttered, his fists clenching. “If Discord hadn’t been here, that attack would've hit us.”
Nobara bit her lip, her usual tough exterior softening. “I hate to admit it, but we owe him.”
Even Megumi, usually so composed, looked troubled. “He didn’t have to protect us. And now… this.”
As Fluttershy sobbed softly beside Discord, Twilight’s heart ached for her friend. She stepped forward, her voice firm despite the tears in her eyes. “We can’t let this happen. Sombra needs to be stopped, *now*.”
But Sombra only laughed, his voice cold and mocking. “You think you can stop me? You have no Elements of Harmony, no chaotic trickster to save you this time.”
Twilight's horn glowed with renewed determination as she faced Sombra head-on. "We don’t need the Elements, and we don’t need tricks. We have each other, and that’s more powerful than anything you’ll ever understand."
The sorcerers, their grief for Discord fueling their resolve, stepped forward, joining Twilight and her friends. Yuji’s cursed energy flickered around him, Megumi summoned his Shikigami, and Nobara gripped her hammer tightly, June takes her bo staff, deadly grip in her hand, her knuckles white with fury.
“We’ll take you down,” Yuji said, his voice filled with determination.
Sombra's cruel smile faltered for just a moment as the united front stood before him, stronger than before. Even without Discord’s chaotic magic, they were ready to fight—and win.
As the final wave of Sombra’s dark magic surged toward the group, Twilight Sparkle’s horn flared to life, its radiant glow cutting through the shadows. With a powerful blast of magic, she formed a shimmering shield, large enough to protect everyone—ponies and sorcerers alike. The dark energy slammed into the barrier, but Twilight held firm, gritting her teeth against the pressure.
“Not this time, Sombra!” Twilight shouted, her voice filled with determination.
Sombra, his grin fading, poured more of his dark magic into the attack, but Twilight's magic held strong. Her friends and the sorcerers stood behind her, watching in awe as the shield repelled the oppressive darkness. In that moment, the magic of friendship surged through Twilight, amplifying her strength. The shield shifted, becoming not just a barrier, but an offensive force. With a single, powerful burst, Twilight unleashed a wave of energy that slammed into Sombra.
The dark lord’s eyes widened in shock as the magic tore through his defenses, stripping away his dark form. The black crystals that had corrupted the room shattered, and the shadowy figure of Sombra began to dissolve.
“No… this can’t be!” Sombra roared, his voice fading as he was consumed by the light. “I… am… eternal!”
But with a final, echoing scream, Sombra was wiped out, his dark magic dissipating into nothingness. As his control faded, the green glow in the eyes of the mind-controlled ponies vanished, and they blinked as if waking from a long, terrible nightmare.
The throne room was still, filled with the quiet, shocked relief of those who had been freed.
Twilight panted, lowering her horn as the last traces of Sombra’s magic vanished. "It's over…" she whispered, the weight of the battle finally lifting.
Suddenly, there was a blur of movement. Gojo, breaking the tension, sprinted across the room toward Utahime, his usual cocky grin nowhere to be found. Without a word, he wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug, surprising everyone, but especially Utahime.
"Wha—Gojo?!" Utahime gasped, stiffening for a moment, completely taken aback. "What are you—"
But Gojo just held her closer, his usual teasing persona replaced with something softer, more genuine. "I thought I’d lost you for a second there," he said, his voice unusually quiet.
Utahime stood frozen for a moment, her mind catching up to what was happening. When she finally relaxed, she cleared her throat, awkwardly patting his back, trying to hide the blush creeping onto her face. "You're such an idiot…"
Across the room, Shoko, Nanami, and Ijichi, who had all been under Sombra’s control, blinked awake, their eyes clearing as they took in their surroundings.
Nanami, ever the professional, adjusted his glasses and sighed heavily. "I was wondering why things felt so… off."
Shoko, always calm, glanced around with a raised eyebrow. "So… did we win?"
Yuji, still recovering from the intensity of the battle, grinned widely. “Yeah! Twilight did it! She totally wiped out Sombra.”
Before anyone could relax further, there was a sudden groan from the corner of the room. Discord, who had been "injured" earlier, dramatically opened one eye and stretched lazily. “Oh, *ouch*. Such pain, such suffering…”
The sorcerers and ponies stared at him, wide-eyed. Fluttershy, still wiping away her tears, gasped. “Discord! You’re okay?!”
Discord floated up into the air, grinning mischievously. “Well, of course I am, my dear Fluttershy. Did you really think *I* would let some second-rate dark lord take me out? I was just… playing along!” He gave a wink, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Yuji’s jaw dropped. “You were faking the whole time?!”
Nobara’s eye twitched in irritation. “You let us think you were *hurt*! We felt *bad* for you!”
Even June, who had been quietly standing by, shook her head, her baby-blue hair swaying as she processed Discord’s antics. “I can’t believe it,” she muttered, running a hand through her hair in disbelief. “He really had us going…”
Discord chuckled, clearly enjoying their reactions. “Oh, the looks on your faces! Priceless!” He floated over to Fluttershy, who was still sniffling, and gave her a gentle pat on the head. “Don’t worry, dear. I’m just fine.”
Gojo, finally letting go of Utahime, snickered. “Classic Discord move.”
Meanwhile, the doors to the throne room creaked open, and the Kyoto students and the second-year sorcerers entered, having helped secure the rest of the castle. Panda and Maki gave approving nods to the first-years and June, clearly impressed by what they had just witnessed.
"Not bad, first-years," Maki said with a smirk. "You handled yourselves well."
Panda nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you didn’t completely screw it up. That’s an improvement."
Mai from the Kyoto team gave a small, begrudging nod. "You did alright, I guess."
Mechamaru, always practical, simply said, “Mission accomplished.”
Yuji, feeling the weight of the compliments, rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed. "Thanks, but it was really a team effort."
Twilight, standing beside him, smiled warmly. "You’re right, Yuji. We couldn’t have done it without each other."
With Sombra defeated and the ponies freed from his spell, the atmosphere shifted from tense and chaotic to one of relief and quiet celebration. The darkness that had loomed over Equestria had lifted, and together, sorcerers and ponies alike had played their part in saving the day.
As they all stood together, catching their breath and reflecting on the battle, it was clear that a new bond had been forged between these two very different worlds—one built on friendship, bravery, and a little bit of chaos.
As the tension in the room finally dissolved, Gojo—true to form—broke the somber mood by suddenly skipping in a circle around the group, dragging a very confused and exasperated Utahime along by the hand.
“Come on, Utahime! We’ve earned it! Let’s go get candy for *everyone*!” Gojo beamed, his carefree nature fully restored now that the battle was over.
Utahime, stumbling slightly as she was pulled along, glared at him. “Gojo, stop dragging me around! And how exactly do you plan on buying candy? You don’t even have the right currency!”
Gojo slowed down just enough to give her a cheeky grin. “Details, details. I’ll figure something out. After all, I’m the great Satoru Gojo. I can do *anything*.”
Utahime huffed, clearly unimpressed. “You’re ridiculous.”
Before Gojo could offer one of his usual over-the-top retorts, Twilight Sparkle, who had been quietly watching the exchange with an amused smile, stepped forward.
“Actually, I think I can help with that,” Twilight said, her horn glowing softly as she conjured a small pouch of bits, the currency of Equestria. “This should be enough to buy plenty of candy for everyone.”
Gojo’s eyes lit up at the sight of the pouch. “Well, would you look at that! Twilight’s got us covered!” He turned to Utahime with a smug look. “See? No problem at all.”
Utahime facepalmed. “Of course.”
Yuji, overhearing the conversation, pumped his fist in the air. “Yes! Candy time!”
Nobara rolled her eyes but smiled despite herself. “I guess after all that fighting, we *do* deserve a treat.”
Megumi, though still his usual reserved self, couldn’t help but smirk a little at the lightheartedness. “Gojo-sensei never changes…”
June smiled, clearly happy at the bonding time.
As the group began to relax, Gojo, still holding the pouch of bits, continued skipping toward the exit of the castle, calling out over his shoulder, “Alright, everyone, candy’s on me! Let’s go!”
Utahime, still being dragged along, muttered under her breath, “I swear, Gojo, if you keep this up, I’ll—”
“Come on, Utahime!” Gojo interrupted, grinning like a kid. “Candy makes everything better!”
Twilight and the rest of the ponies exchanged amused glances before following after the group, feeling lighter now that the threat of Sombra had passed.
As they made their way out of the castle and back toward Ponyville, it was clear that—despite their differences—the bond between the sorcerers and the ponies had grown stronger. And with Gojo leading the charge toward the nearest candy store, everyone was ready to celebrate their victory with a little sweetness.
