The hum of white noise…

The small room greeted me again. I forgot the color so it didn’t matter. A calendar hung, unchanged for years but more importantly there was a small machine in the room. The box projected light into my dark eyes.

This is where I read, this is where I watch. No one will see me and no one will hear me. I hate the outside, everyone is rude. It hurts to walk anyways.

Before I get tangled within the ill I feel for the outer world I clicked through the websites and the monitor displayed a wide range of bright colors. The show of horses brought me joy, a comfort, a perfect escape. How I wouldn’t wish to be dragged through the screen.

Hours pass, it only felt like minutes. In a deep yawn and a gross stretch I close the website. The machine powers down after the longest minute of the day then I stared into the black monitor. After an hour I finally fell into my bed and shut my eyes.

“Anon… Anon! Hey, Anon!” Someone called to me. I rubbed my eyes and slowly cracked them open.

“Ah, there you are Anon! I was worried you wouldn’t answer my summoning spell.” The purple unicorn spoke to me. At a first glance I knew where I was, I was in the Golden Oak Library.

“O-Oh, sorry for being late Twilight. I-”

“Please don’t worry Anon, you aren’t late at all. I was… Just trying to summon you a bit early is all… Anyways, let’s get back to working on that spell. You can’t keep living in that other world, it must be unhealthy for you.” The lavender horse smiled with genuine friendship as she lifted a book to me.

“Thanks Twilight, I can always count on you.” I return her smile.

“Of course, I couldn’t ever let down a friend. Especially you Anon!” The unicorn chuckled smittenly.

I couldn’t wipe the grin from my face as I opened the book she gave to me. I couldn’t read any of it but I understood what it said. I couldn’t focus too long on it without a small headache.

“The book says that we need two leaves and cake batter.” I stated, looking up from the fuzzy text.

“Hmm, cake batter I have but not two leaves. Maybe Rarity has some, you should go ask her.” She thought tapping her chin.

“Good idea, I’ll go there now.” With that I raced out the door. I waved to all my friends as I passed them before ending up at Rarity’s Boutique.

“Rarity!” I called as the bell above the door rang.

“Thank goodness you’re here darling. I was just pondering on what dress to wear to Twilight’s tonight.” Rarity brought out her dress from the season one finale; The Best Night Ever. For the second she replaced the first dress with the one from the season one finale; The Best Night Ever.

“Well? What do you think?” She asked nervously.

“Hmm, I love the first one but I think the second will fit tonight’s theme better.” I stated with some confidence.

“Oh goodness you’re right dear! Yes this is the one I must wear. Also, I’m sorry, I don’t have three leaves. Pinkie Pie might have some though.” Rarity said while putting on her dress.

“Thank you Rarity, always such a great help.” With a small bow of my head I fled back into the town, searching for the building that looks similar to a large sweet.

“Heeeeyyyyy, Nonny. Looking for me?” A pink pony whispered in my ear.

“Hi Pinkie, you are just the pony I was looking to talk to.” I give a smile.

“Eyup, of course I have some leafs.” I get a smile along with four leafs from the party pony. “You know what they say; three thousand, six hundred, and fifty two times (and a half) is the charm.”

“Thanks Pinkie, hopefully this time it will work.”

“Well, we’ll just have to try it.” Twilight said, getting up from her desk in the corner of the room. I place the five leafs on the wooden table and take a step back. Twilight’s horn lit and the ingredients glowed.

“Just a little more magic and…” The unicorn stated with a focused stare. The ingredients levitated before forming a large cake.

Happy Birthday to you~” They sung in unison.

“I’m so happy you guys remembered.” I wipe a tear from my eye.

“Of course we remember Anon.” Fluttershy rubbed my back.

“Yeah! Even I remembered it, must be because it’s so awesome huh?” Rainbow cheered.

“We don’t know your exact birthday but it’s also your anniversary of answering my summon spell. So we just put a big ten on there.” Twilight grinned.

“Now, it’s bad manners to interrupt somepony before they even blow out their candles. Go ahead Anon.” Rarity motioned to the cake.

“Make a wish!” Spike interjected.

With a heavy blow from me the light atop the stick faded away as I held a wish in my head. Hopefully this year we can finally find a spell to keep me here. I don’t want to go back.

“Ye-haw! Now it’s a party.” Applejack stated loudly.

"I can't believe it's already been ten years." Pinkie smiled.

“Anon, I’m sorry we couldn’t find a spell to keep you here this year. I think I found a new book to help with that though. It just came in the mail today actually.” Twilight rubbed the back of her mane.

“Really? That’s great!” I said, ecstatic. This might be it, finally I might be able to stay here with my friends.

Sounds came from another room. They inched closer with each passing second. The colorful friends that I loved slowly faded even as I reached for them. It seemed this was a short day. Could it not last longer? It was my birthday after all.

Author's Note

Proof I am not dead, just really slow about writing right now. Needed to upload something to get in the groove again. I required a really simple story to help me through it. Something big is coming from me if I can get off my butt and actually write.

Anyways I hope you enjoyed it, if you didn't than you like the Borderlands movie :twilightsheepish:
