Suncrisp looked around her in amazement, never in her life she would ever imagine she would be walking down the halls of a castle straight out of a fairy tale.
“Pretty amazing huh?” Twilight Sparkle spoke from beside her.
“Yeah, it’s different from yer castle, Princess Twilight,” Suncrisp said as she looked at the stained glass windows.
“Just call me, Twilight. Princess Suncrisp,” Twilight smiles cheekily at her fellow Alicorn.
“About that,” Suncrisp focuses her gaze at the horn protruding from her as she moves her wings a little. “Ah’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Ah’m a princess, much less from another world.”
“I know it’s a lot to take in, I had a hard time accepting it when I first became a Princess,” Twilight rested her left wing on Suncrisp's shoulder. “But I’ll be here to help you whenever you need me.”
“Thanks,” Suncrisp thanked Twilight. She is very grateful for her help. “Ah’m glad yer the first per-uh pony?” Suncrisp couldn’t believe that there was a race of talking ponies on the other side of the statue portal. “Ah met, ah don’t know what would’ve happened if anybody else found me.”
Twilight continued to smile as she looked at Suncrisp, she can see a lot of Applejack not just in her appearance but in her mannerisms as well. It must be because she was raised in the Apple farm all her life.
“So, this Princess Celestia we’re going to see. Can she really help me?” Suncrisp asked, she came to this world in the hopes of learning not just about herself but about her other mother, Sunset Shimmer.
“She most definitely will,” Twilight nodded confidently. “She can answer a lot of your questions that I couldn’t answer.”
The two stopped before double doors with two guards standing guard on either side. Twilight took a quick glance at Suncrisp before opening the right side of the door, the two stepped inside and Suncrisp saw two ponies sitting on their thrones. Both of them had wings and a unicorn horn like her and Twilight, the darker blue mare and the smaller one was sitting on a light blue throne with a crescent moon design above the headrest of her throne. Next to her is a bigger mare, bigger than any of the ponies Suncrisp had ever seen so far and maybe even bigger than the horses back home sat next to her in a white throne with a sun design on the headrest.
“Princess Celestia, Princess Luna!” Twilight called out.
Suncrisp did a double take, one of these mares was Princess Celestia?! Twilight mentioned that she has lived for centuries but Suncrisp was expecting a very old mare.
“Hello there, Twilight. It is good to see you,” Princess Celestia greeted before looking at Twilight’s companion, her eyes widened upon noticing her wings and horn.
“Twilight, is that an Alicorn you brought with you?” Princess Luna asked, shocked at seeing another Alicorn.
“She is, and you’re not going to believe who she is,” Twilight said excitedly.
“Suncrisp,” Celestia said as she descended from her throne and towards Suncrisp.
“Yah know who ah am?” Suncrisp said in surprise.
“Of course,” Celestia responded as she stood in front of Suncrisp. “How could I ever forget my grandfoal.”
Suncrisp’s eyes widened upon hearing this, she took two steps forward as Celestia raised her right leg to wrap around Suncrisp. Suncrisp nuzzled into her grandmother, her coat smelled really good. Like Sunflowers. She felt really warm, like a warm blanket. Suncrisp took a shuddering breath, the events at her house catching up with her. Her Aunt Applebloom’s confession, her family’s betrayal, everything she believed in was a lie. Her face contorted in pain as tears spilled from her eyes. She felt Celestia wrap her wings around her as she started wailing.
Celestia felt her granddaughter wrap her hooves around her tightly, it broke her heart to listen to Suncrisp’s sobs. Just what could have happened to cause her such pain?
Twilight and Luna looked on in concern before quickly joining Celestia and enveloping Suncrisp in a hug.
The four royals are in the dining room, Celestia sat at the head of the table, Luna sitting to her right, Suncrisp to her left and Twilight sat next to Suncrisp. Celestia used her magic to pour Suncrisp some tea and place a slice of cake next to it.
“Thanks,” Suncrisp thanked her grandmother as she wiped her eyes of any remaining tears.
“You’re welcome,” Celestia said as she poured everypony else a cup before pouring some for herself.
Suncrisp tried to focus her magic on her cup to get it to move but it wouldn’t budge, she sighed in defeat before picking up the tea cup in her hooves and taking a sip.
“If I may ask, what brings you to Equestria?” Luna asked as she sipped her tea.
“Ah was hoping ah could talk to mah mom, Sunset Shimmer. But Twilight told me that she disappeared a long time ago,” Suncrisp answered.
“Indeed. Years ago, I visited your world with Twilight. I’ve been having dreams about a strange foal and I felt a pull on my heart urging me to go,” Celestia explained as she looked at Suncrisp with a loving smile. “To my shock and joy, I realized that it was you my heart was pulling me to.”
Celestia lifted her hoof to caress Suncrisp’s face, she stared into her purple eyes that greatly resembled her own. Suncrisp stared at her grandmother, taking note of her flowing mane, one color in particular caused her to raise a hoof to the pink part of her mane. There is a nagging question in her mind.
“Why didn’t yah come visit me?”
“I did come see you but your mother, Applejack would never allow me too,” Celestia answered sadly.
At the mention of Applejack’s name, Suncrisp became enraged. Celestia saw the hatred in her eyes, the same hatred that she saw in Sunset’s eyes all those years ago when they had a falling out. Celestia placed her other hoof on the other side of Suncrisp’s face.
“Tell me my little pony, what has happened to you that you show such anger towards your mother?” Celestia asked in a pleading tone.
Suncrisp’s anger died down a little at her grandmother’s pleading look, she took a deep breath before explaining what had happened.
“For as long as ah can remember, mah Ma has always preached to me the importance of family and how family sticks together and supports one another. She never told me about mah other mother,” Suncrisp frowned as she averted her gaze. “But when ah was playing mah guitar with Aunt Dash, ah suddenly felt this surge deep inside and the next thing ah knew, ah grew wings. Aunt Dash called it ponying up, she said that she and mah other aunts, including mah Ma used to pony up a lot when they were mah age. But fer some reason they weren’t able to fer years.”
Celestia glanced at Twilight to see her thinking about what Suncrisp had just said, she would have to ask her what her thoughts were later.
“As she started talking about her past she got real quiet when she mentioned Sunset Shimmer,” Suncrisp said. “Before ah could ask, mah Ma came in mah room to tells us that dinner was ready. Aunt Dash looked very relieved when she said that, later ah asked Ma about Sunset and she got really mad. She told me never to ask about her again, ah had never seen Ma so mad in my life. It scared me. Ah didn’t bring it up but her reaction got me really curious about this Sunset Shimmer so ah decided to find out more about her on mah own.”
Celestia’s ears dropped as this sounded very familiar.
“Ah asked Aunt Dash again but all she told me was that she was a friend that betrayed them in the past,” Suncrisp explained. “That got mah attention, ah asked her for more but she told me that it was a touchy subject. So ah went to ask Aunt Rarity, Aunt Shy and Auntie Pinkie but they all told me the same thing. It was driving me crazy, ah had to know who this Sunset was and why mentioning her made my Aunts sad. Ah figured that the only person that would give me straight answers was my great granny, what she told me was not the answer ah was expecting. She told me that Sunset Shimmer is mah mother and that she comes from a world of magic.”
“Ah couldn’t believe it, she had to be pulling mah leg. But looking into her eyes, ah could tell that she was serious. Ah was in shock, why had Ma never told me, why did she do that caused all her friends such pain? Just then, Ma and Aunt Applebloom walked in. We stared at each other in silence, the tension was so thick yah could cut it with a knife. Ah got mad and told her that ah know the truth, and accused her of lying to me about my other mother.”
Celestia’s heart dropped, this was playing out exactly like her fallout with Sunset.
“We argued, our voices were raised. Ma revealed to me what had happened, about Anon-A-Miss, how they cut Sunset out of their friend group, how she learned that she was pregnant with Sunset’s baby, how she decided to never tell her. It was all too much and suddenly Aunt Applebloom revealed a horrible secret. She was the one who created Anon-A-Miss with her friends, she was the one who betrayed Ma and framed Sunset, she was the one who broke our family.” Suncrisp narrowed her eyes. “Ah couldn’t take it anymore ah needed to get away so ah went to mah room. Ah was so upset, ah played mah guitar to calm me down but it only made me more angry. Ah ponied up. As ah looked at myself in the mirror, ah thought back to how ah was raised, it was all a lie. Ah was living a lie, ah didn’t know who ah was anymore.” She reached for her hat that was a gift from her Ma and pulled it back until it rested on her neck.
“But then ah remember Aunt Rainbow mentioning something about a portal at the base of the Wondercolt Statue, she joked that it led to another world. After learning about my other mother and that magic is real, ah figured that what she said about the portal must be true. So ah wrote a note and flew towards CHS, ah crashed landed in the snow and after looking around the statue ah found the portal. Ah was about to go in but Ma pulled up in her truck and tried to stop me, ah got really mad looking at her. All this time she has been preaching to me about family. When she abandoned mah mother without giving her a chance to defend herself, ah turned back to the portal and stepped through it. Mah vision was flooded with swirling colors before ah was flung out of something.”
Suncrisp stopped when she heard the sound of sniffing, she looked up to see her grandmother in tears.
“Why are you crying?” Suncrisp asked, confused as to why her grandmother was crying.
“Your falling out with your mother is the same as my falling out with my daughter, Sunset.” Celestia tearfully explained. “I fear that you may walk down the same dark path that she did.”
“What dark path?” Suncrisp asked, feeling afraid.
“The path to stealing my crown,” Twilight said sadly.
“The path that turns you into a monster,” Luna said with regret.
“But ah don’t want to do any of that!” Suncrisp raised her voice, very alarmed at what they were saying.
“And you won’t,” Celestia spoke. “I’ll be there to catch you if you fall.”
“We will be there to catch her,” Luna said from beside Suncrisp, having risen from her seat.
“You can count me on me too,” Twilight declared. “No way am I letting my best friend’s daughter fall to darkness.”
“Suncrisp,” Celestia spoke softly. “I know that your trust in family is shaken after what you have been through but if you give us a chance, we’ll prove to you that you can still trust in your family.”
Suncrisp was quiet as she mulled over Celestia’s words, she looked into her grandmother’s eyes, eyes filled with love and regret.
“Can yah teach me how to use magic?” She asked, a small smile on her lips.
“I would be honored,” Celestia agreed as she nuzzled Suncrisp.
“And fly,” Suncrisp added as nuzzled her grandmother.
“We shall have a grand time teaching you how to fly!” Luna cheered as she nuzzled her great niece.
Twilight watched the family moment with delight, but her smile faltered when she thought of Sunset. Whenever her friend was, she hoped that she could see her again.
