Chapter 2: The Haunting Visions

Previous Chapter

The sun was setting over Canterlot City, casting long shadows across the streets as Sunset Shimmer walked home. But peace eluded her—those haunting visions wouldn’t leave her alone. Her pace slowed, a sharp pain suddenly stabbing through her skull as another headache took hold. Voices echoed in her mind, growing louder until she could no longer distinguish reality from illusion. She winced, bringing a hand to her forehead, but it did little to stop the onslaught.

This time, the world around her seemed to darken, and a chilling presence emerged from the shadows. The air around her seemed to thicken, making it hard to breathe. The figure came closer, stopping just a few feet away. Sunset felt a chill run down her spine as the figure’s cold voice pierced the silence.

"You care about others, but what about me? You ignored me, refused to listen to my wishes," the figure said, her tone dripping with resentment. "I think I have no other choice."

Sunset tried to speak, to defend herself, but her voice caught in her throat. Before she could react, the figure reached out and a polearm materialized in her hand. In one swift motion, it drove the weapon into her chest. Sunset gasped, feeling the sharp, searing pain as if it were real. Her vision blurred, and she collapsed onto the cold pavement, her body trembling as darkness claimed her. As her consciousness faded, she heard the figure's final words.

"I hope you'll remember this lesson,_____ ______," the voice trailed off as the figure disappeared into the darkness.

Sunset’s world turned black, but another voice lingered, the one she heard earlier in the bathroom, echoing in the emptiness of her mind. "NO! P-Please don’t leave me... Please... I’m begging you... No..."

Darkness consumed her, but she wasn’t alone. A gentler figure emerged from the void—this one, bathed in a soft, warm light. The figure reached out a hand towards her, her eyes filled with sorrow.

"Sunset Shimmer," the figure whispered.

Sunset woke with a start, gasping for breath as a tear slipped down her cheek. Disoriented, she found herself lying on a couch in a place she recognized—Flash Sentry’s house. Her heart raced, but she tried to calm herself, wiping away the tear before Flash noticed.

Flash was sitting nearby, his eyes filled with concern as he noticed her waking up. "Sunset! You’re awake. How are you feeling?" he asked gently.

Sunset managed a weak smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’m okay, just... a bit disoriented," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Flash let out a sigh of relief, his expression softening. "Thank goodness. I found you unconscious in the middle of the city. You looked so pale—I thought you needed help. What happened?"

Sunset sat up slowly, still feeling the residual effects of the vision. She looked down at herself, half-expecting to find a wound where the polearm had struck, but there was nothing—no blood, no injury, just the memory of pain that still lingered.

"I... I’m not sure," Sunset murmured, her voice trembling. "It felt so real, but..." She couldn’t find the words to explain what had happened. The experience was too vivid, too terrifying, to dismiss as just a dream or hallucination.

Flash frowned, concern etched in his features, but he didn’t press her for more details. Instead, he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It’s okay, Sunset. You don’t have to explain right now. Just take it easy. I’m here if you need anything."

Sunset offered him a grateful smile, but her mind was still a whirlwind of confusion and fear. She knew that what she’d seen wasn’t just a figment of her imagination—there was something more to it, something dark and foreboding. The figure in her vision had a connection to her, one she couldn’t ignore.

As she tried to stand, Flash looked up at her, his worry deepening as he moved to help her. "Sunset? Where are you going? Are you alright?" he asked.

But before Sunset could answer, a familiar sharp pain shot through her head. The room began to spin, and she barely registered Flash’s worried voice calling out to her as the voices returned, echoing in her mind.

"It will all be over soon... I’ll come back!"

Sunset staggered, nearly collapsing again, but Flash caught her just in time. She turned to look at him, and for a moment, his familiar face seemed to twist and distort. His eyes, normally warm and kind, now glowed with a strange, cold light, and his voice took on an eerie, hollow tone.

"I’ll come back to you," he said with a soft, chilling laugh.

Sunset screamed, jolting awake once more. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her body trembling with fear. She was back in Flash Sentry’s living room, just as before, but the terror from the vision lingered.

Once again, Flash was beside her, his expression mirroring the concern he’d shown earlier. "Sunset! You’re awake. How are you feeling—"

"P-Please help me get home," Sunset interrupted him, her voice shaking as she jumped off the couch, moving quickly toward the door.

Flash blinked in confusion, quickly following after her and catching her arm gently. "Sunset, wait! What’s wrong? What happened?"

"Please, Flash... I need to go home. It’s important," she pleaded, her voice desperate. "I’ll explain on the way, but please, I need to get out of here."

Flash looked at her, searching her eyes for answers, but all he found was fear. He sighed, nodding slowly. "Alright. I’ll take you home."

They stepped outside into the cool evening air and made their way to Flash’s car. Sunset climbed into the passenger seat while Flash slid behind the wheel. The engine roared to life, and they pulled away from the house, heading towards Sunset’s apartment.

The car was silent except for the hum of the engine. Flash Sentry finally spoke, his voice careful and steady as he kept his eyes on the road. "So, what’s going on?"

Sunset Shimmer hesitated, her hands trembling slightly as she clasped them in her lap. She stared out the window, watching the city lights blur past, trying to find the right words to explain what had happened.

"I... I keep seeing things, Flash. Horrible things. It’s like these visions are trying to tell me something, but I don’t know what it is. And they feel so real, like I’m actually living them."

Flash glanced at her with a mix of concern and curiosity. "Visions? Like dreams?"

Sunset shook her head, her hands trembling in her lap. "No, not dreams. They're more like... memories, but they’re not mine. It’s like I’m reliving someone else’s pain. And tonight, I thought I... I thought I was going to die. It felt so real, Flash. I could feel the pain, the cold steel—everything."

Flash's grip tightened on the steering wheel. "But when I found you, there wasn’t a mark on you. It was like you were just... asleep. But you were so pale, Sunset. I was scared."

"I was scared too," Sunset admitted, her voice shaking. "I don’t know what’s happening to me, but it’s getting stronger. And that figure... she’s angry with me, Flash. I can feel it. And it's... terrifying."

Flash’s eyes widened slightly, but he tried to remain calm for her sake. "Have you talked to anyone else about this? The others might be able to help."

Sunset sighed, leaning her head back against the seat. "I did, but... I don’t want to worry them. I need to figure out what’s going on first."

Flash nodded slowly, though he didn’t look entirely convinced. "Okay, but you know they’d want to help you. We all would."

Sunset managed a small smile, appreciating his concern. "I know, Flash. And I’m glad you’re here with me. I just need some time to think."

They continued driving in silence, the weight of Sunset’s words lingering between them. Flash knew something was seriously wrong, but he didn’t want to push her. And yet, he couldn't help but glance at Sunset's gloves.

"Sunset—"

"I know," Sunset interrupted him, her gaze looked back at her gloves. "Just a new power, and... when I got it, all these things got started."

Flash nodded slowly. "I see."

With that, they finally arrived at Sunset’s apartment, Flash turned off the engine but didn’t move to get out of the car. He looked at Sunset, who was staring down at her gloved hands, lost in thought.

"Sunset, if you need anything, anything at all, I’m just a call away," Flash said, his voice full of earnest concern.

Sunset nodded, her eyes meeting his. "Thank you, Flash. I really appreciate it."

Flash offered a small smile before they both got out of the car. He walked her to her door, ensuring she was safely inside before he reluctantly left. Sunset watched him drive away, then closed the door behind her.

Alone in her apartment, Sunset tried to shake off the lingering unease from her visions. She paced around the room, her mind racing with thoughts of the figure she’d seen—the woman who had attacked her in the vision.

"Who are you?" Sunset whispered to herself, her voice trembling. "What do you want from me?"

She paused by the window, staring out into the dark night. The city was quiet, but the silence only amplified the dread she felt. As it grew late, she decided to get ready for bed.

"I should better get ready for tomorrow," she whispered. "Maybe Princess Twilight will reply soon."

With that, she headed to her closet, changing into pajamas, preparing for bed and hoping her friend from Equestria could provide the guidance she desperately needed.
