The Ominous Presence

“It’s just that... the nightmare feels so real...” Twilight murmured as she sat across from Rarity, pouring tea into small cups.

The dark circles under her eyes had deepened, and her appearance deteriorated with each passing minute. Another sleepless night had passed without finding any clues about the strange dream that tormented her.

Rarity had come to visit, hoping that some company might ease her friend's distress. But things weren’t going as expected. Applejack was overwhelmed with work on the farm, Pinkie Pie had been called to the Crystal Empire Festival to organize parties, and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy were traveling. Even Rarity, with her tight schedule of orders, had made an effort to be there, worried about Spike's recent absence and Twilight's growing anxiety.

“Oh, dear, that sounds like a terrible nightmare. Have you asked Princess Luna for help?” Rarity asked with a tone of genuine concern, observing the evident deterioration on her friend's face as she sat across from her.

“Yes, I did. She tried to enter my dreams, but...” Twilight drifted off, remembering the conversation she had with Princess Luna a few days earlier when Spike was still at home.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this... It’s truly baffling,” Princess Luna admitted, her voice reflecting an unusual weariness.

“What do you mean, princess?” Twilight asked, feeling her anxiety grow.

“Twilight,” Princess Luna spoke with a firmness that was uncommon for her, “it’s normal to sometimes wake up not remembering your dreams, even if they occurred. But I... have the ability to access them and uncover hidden truths. However, last night, when I tried to enter your dreams, I encountered something very strange…”

“Did you manage to find out what’s causing the nightmares?” Hope reflected in Twilight’s eyes, wishing the cause was something as simple as stress. But Luna’s response left her breathless.

“Twilight...” Princess Luna hesitated before continuing. “I saw nothing.”

“How is that possible?” Twilight could barely believe what she was hearing.

“I saw nothing,” Luna repeated, her expression disturbed. “I entered your dreams and found a void. There was no trace of a nightmare, no dream, only darkness. And a presence...ominous, which seemed ready to devour me if I stayed there any longer"

Rarity remained silent, stunned, as Twilight recounted Princess Luna’s explanation. A shiver ran down her spine as she tried to process the gravity of the situation.

“A dark void?” Rarity asked, her voice trembling. “And an ominous presence? What could be so powerful that even Princess Luna can’t see your dreams? Please tell me this is some kind of joke. This is absolutely terrible! We have to do something!”

Though Twilight appreciated her friend’s concern, she felt she should face this alone. After everything that happened in the Crystal Empire with King Sombra, she believed her friends deserved a break from problems and conflicts.

“Thank you, really, Rarity... but this isn’t affecting me that much, just taking away some hours of sleep,” Twilight smiled, trying to downplay it, though she knew it wasn’t true. In her mind, she had already decided to bear this burden alone. “Besides, you know the girls are very busy with their own matters.”

But Rarity wasn’t easily deceived. She knew Twilight too well not to see the truth behind her words.

“Oh, darling, don’t try to minimize it. You look exhausted!” Rarity exclaimed, her eyes full of worry. “You’ve lost color, your eyes are dark and sunken, and you’re clearly struggling to stay awake. This isn’t just ‘some hours’ of sleep!”

Twilight tried to respond, but Rarity interrupted her firmly.

“You’re not being reasonable! You can’t just downplay it and expect everything to fix itself. You look like a walking corpse!” Rarity continued, her voice more worried with each word. “This is serious! You could collapse at any moment. You can’t ignore it and pretend it’s not a big problem! We’re your friends; we want to help. Don’t try to handle this on your own.”

Twilight smiled softly. Although she wanted to solve the problem by herself, she felt a bit regretful for having shared it. Now she just wanted to reassure Rarity somehow.

“I’ll figure it out, Rarity. And if at any point I feel like I can’t handle it alone, I’ll ask for help, okay?”

Rarity looked at her intently, searching for any sign of doubt in her words, but eventually sighed and nodded.

“Alright, but please promise me you’ll come to me or the others if it gets worse. I don’t like seeing you like this.”

“I will, don’t worry...” Twilight assured, grateful for her friend’s loyalty.

“And remember, we’re here for you, always. You don’t have to face everything alone. You’re our friend, and you’ll never be a burden to us.”

Later that night, after Rarity had left, anxiety overtook Twilight once again. Despite Rarity’s concern, she had no intention of going to bed. She immersed herself in an old book, searching for answers, but exhaustion began to take its toll. The words blurred before her eyes, and she read the same sentence repeatedly without comprehension.

Finally, after hours of struggling against sleep, she gave in.

“Maybe the best way to find out the cause is to experience it... again,” she murmured as she prepared to go to bed. She knew she would face something terrible, but she also knew she had to do it.

She lay down in bed, closed the window, allowing Owlowiscious to go out and hunt insects in the night. Then, she closed her eyes, letting exhaustion quickly pull her into sleep.

In her dream, she found herself surrounded by dense darkness, as if the void itself wanted to consume her. But this time, Twilight felt no fear, only a deep determination. She knew she had to confront whatever resided in that darkness.

The creature’s bright eyes watched her from a distance, and Twilight, instead of retreating, advanced toward them.

“Who are you?” she asked, her voice firm, though a part of her trembled at the unknown.

The creature didn’t respond, but it didn’t attack either. It only growled, a low and threatening sound, like a stray dog refusing to attack but continuing to warn.

“Why are you here?” Twilight continued, moving a little closer. The growl faded, and the creature approached, emerging from the shadows. Its form was barely visible, but its eyes remained fixed on her.

Twilight held her breath, trying to maintain her composure. She knew she was in danger, but something inside her told her that this was the key to understanding what was happening.

“Please,” she pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation. “If you need help, tell me how I can assist you.”

The creature seemed to consider her words. Its eyes shone with increased intensity, as if evaluating her, and for a moment, Twilight felt as if she had reached some sort of understanding.

But before she could say more, the creature vanished, leaving her alone in the darkness. A loud ringing filled her mind, and the sensation of being pulled into the ground intensified. As her limbs faded into the abyss of shadows, Twilight felt a growing panic.

“Help!” she shouted, desperate, with half of her body already sinking into the void of shadows.

Her cries echoed in the darkness, but soon the sound of her own voice faded, drowned by the emptiness.

“Ah!” Twilight exclaimed, waking abruptly, finding herself on the floor, wrapped in her sheets. The moon still shone high in the sky; only a few minutes had passed since she had fallen asleep.

She sighed, frustrated. The experiment had been a complete failure.
