Author's Note
Hello! Me again! I just wanted to share a little story i wrote a few weeks ago but never submitted here for some reason, i hope you enjoy this less serious story! Hehe
Seriously Spike? Mooncakes?
"And the winner of the-" The Royal voice of Celestia, using her magic to make a first place trophy float next to her, would be interrupted by Pinkie Pie
"Yeah! We did it!" Pinkie, not letting Celestia say who really winned, grabbed all of her friends, Donut Joe, Gustave and Mulia on a thight hug.
"Umm...Sorry Pinkie, but your incredible cake is not the winner" Celestia said with a slight smile on her face, feeling bad for popping the mare's happiness
"WHAT!? But Princess! Nothing, and i mean, NOTHING is better than that Cake!...Umm...Your Majesty" Rainbow said flying almost to Celestia's face, a slight frown on the princess' face was enough to calm Rainbow Dash
"Princess Celestia, even if i don't agree with Rainbow's ways, she is right! That cake has the share abilities of 7 of the best cooks on Equestria!" Twilight said not understanding how Celestia would be able to pick anything but the MMMM
"Yes! This is outrageus! Who is better than us!?" Gustave said separating from the hug of a frozen Pinkie Pie. "...Is that a Mooncake?"
Everyone would share at Celestia, who was now munching a mooncake, ignoring all the screams and complainings of everyone unless they were calmed down.
"Yeah! Those are the best! Of course they are the winners!" One random pony said walking next to them with a mooncake on his hoof.
"Who made that!? Is a simple cake!" Mulia said disgusted by the situation, giving a step towards Celestia.
"I think...You are looking for us!"
When everyone turned to see where the voice was coming from, they saw...
"Spike!?"
"Spikey-Wikey!?"
"Sugarcube!?"
"Princess Luna!?"
"Oh hey guys" Now, everyone turned to see Pony Joe with a mix of confusion and anger. "...What? They visit my store every month"
"But yeah, as you can see, My sweet nephew and i beated this competition" Luna said with a slight smirk on his face, being a little bit weird to seeing her on the day and with a chef hat instead of her crown.
"Our mooncakes beated all of you!" Spike said blowing a raspberry at the cooks.
"But-But-HOW!?" Again, everyone turned around to see Pinkie, with half a cake on her hoof and the other half on her mouth. "This is...Is...Delicious!? I never tasted something like that! And i tasted everything!...What is your secret!? I need it! I could make the best dessert ever!"
"Okay, okay, Take it easy Pinkie, i guess i can tell you that" Spike said crossing his arms with a smile
2 days ago
"Seriously Spike? Mooncakes?" Princess Luna said frowning slightly, she was at the Castle's kitchen with his nephew Spike, both planning what to prepare for the dessert contest when the little baby dragon suggested that
Spike, who had been eagerly flipping through a cookbook filled with exotic recipes, looked up at Princess Luna with wide, hopeful eyes. "Yeah! Mooncakes!" he exclaimed, holding up the book to show her a picture of the round, intricately designed pastries. "They're perfect for the contest! I mean, you're Princess Luna, What could be better than something called 'mooncakes'?"
"Spike, what would you think if i said that we should prepare dragon beard because you are a dragon?" She said raising an eyebrow trying to make the little dragon understand her point
Spike paused, his enthusiasm slightly dampened by Luna's comparison. He scratched the back of his head, trying to think of a response. "Well... I guess that does sound a little silly when you put it that way," he admitted, a small frown forming on his face. "But mooncakes aren't just about the name! They're traditional, they're beautiful, and they taste amazing! Plus, they have those cool designs on them that we can customize. We could make them with stars, moons, or even your cutie mark!"
"...Awww i cannot say no to that pretty cute little face!" The princess said with a smile on her face, grabbing Spike's cheeks with his hooves and pressing them
"Aunt Luna! hehe Stop!" The baby dragon tried to escape from her grip, chuckling like a kid while the princess keep baby-talking to him
Princess Luna eventually let go of Spike, her smile widening at the dragon’s infectious laughter. “Alright, alright, you win. Mooncakes it is!” she said, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Spike’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Yes! You won’t regret it! I’ll get the ingredients ready. We can even make a special batch with some of your favorite flavors!”
"And yours" Luna said with a smile, rubbing the little baby's head with one hoof. "It's our dessert, not only mine right?"
"That's right!" Spike said before raising a hand, holding 5 fingers on the air. "5 minutes to collect our favourite flavors and come here as soon as we can!"
Both of them nodded and quickly went to recollect their items, Spike just flew away from the window and Luna disappeared using his magic, 5 minutes later, exactly at the same time, they entered with bags full of ingredients
"what did you bringed Spike?" Luna putted her own bag on the counter of the kitchen, revealing...64 moonstones?
"Just the best!" Spike said doing the same thing revealing a mix of different rocks and jewelry, making both of them to stay in silence while looking at the weird ingredients the other bringed to the table, not realizing how weird their own was
Princess Luna’s eyes widened as she stared at the bag of moonstones. “Spike, I didn’t realize you were bringing gems and rocks. They’re... lovely, but I’m not sure how we’re going to incorporate them into the mooncakes.”
"Huh? But you bringed rocks too!" Spike pouted pointing at the rocks she had on her bag
"Nono, they are MOONstones, from the moon!" Luna explained like that made them better for a dessert
Spike tilted his head, trying to make sense of Luna’s explanation. “I get that they’re from the moon, but do you think we can actually use them in the mooncakes? They’re not really... edible, are they?"
Luna let some air escape from her nose in a almost narcisist way. "Oh come on Spike, i lived from these things years on the moon!"
"But...You don't need to eat, and you always complained about having to repair your teeth with magic after that"
Luna huffed. “Well, they’re symbolic. They remind me of the moon and my time there. They’re perfect for the theme of the contest.”
Spike crossed his arms, clearly not satisfied. “But they’re not edible. How are we supposed to use them in a dessert? It’s like you’re not even trying to make something we can actually eat.”
“And your rocks are not exactly conventional ingredients either,” Luna shot back. “What are we supposed to do with those? I don’t see how a bunch of gemstones is going to help us win this contest.”
Spike’s face flushed with frustration. “These aren’t just any rocks! They’re rare and have unique qualities. We could use them to give our mooncakes a special touch.”
Luna’s expression hardened. “Unique or not, they’re still rocks. We need to make something delicious, not just something that looks fancy. We have to think about flavor and presentation.”
Spike threw up his hands in exasperation. “Well, maybe moonstones would be better if you actually knew how to use them in cooking! But since you don’t want to admit it, we’re stuck with your moonstones and my gems!.”
Luna glared at Spike. “Fine, then. Let’s just stick to our original plan. We’ll each use our own ingredients and see how it turns out. But don’t come complaining if your gems don’t work out.”
“Same goes for your rocks!” Spike retorted.
They both started to start cooking their own things...But after literally 5 minutes, Luna turned to see Spike
"Umm...Spike...How do you use a stove?" She asked with a blush on his face, making Spike forget all the argument from how cute his aunt looked like that
Spike’s stern expression softened instantly, and he chuckled at Luna’s flustered look. “Alright, alright, let me show you. It’s not that complicated, but it does help to know what you’re doing.”
He walked over to Luna’s side of the kitchen, demonstrating how to adjust the temperature on the stove and explaining the different settings. Luna watched intently, her cheeks still tinged pink from embarrassment.
“See, you just need to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get too hot,” Spike said, pointing to the dials. “And be sure to stir occasionally, or else things might burn.”
Princess Luna nodded, trying to absorb everything Spike was explaining. She was still a bit embarrassed, but Spike always helped to ease her nerves.
“Thank you, Spike,” Luna said softly, giving him a grateful smile. “I suppose I’m more accustomed to using magic than actual kitchen appliances.”
Spike grinned. “No problem, Aunt Luna. Everyone has to start somewhere. Besides, you’ve got a lot more experience with, well, everything else!”
Spike beamed with pride, happy to help his aunt. “And hey, if this works out, maybe we can even surprise Princess Celestia with our presentation!"
Luna’s eyes sparkled with the idea. “Yes, she would love that! Especially since she’s always teasing me about my lack of skills in the kitchen. Imagine her surprise when she sees what we’ve created.”
And if Spike saw fire on her eyes while she said that, he never said a thing
"But...Our ingredients..." Spike said akwardly, rubbing the back of his head after realizing that none of them were really edible
"Oh! Yeah, i forgot!" Luna said before making her horn glow for a few seconds. "Done! One of the first spells me and mi sisters learned after all the moon fiasco, how to make non edible things edible!"
Spike's eyes widened in awe as he watched the glow of Luna's magic fade. "Wait, you can do that? You just turned moonstones and gemstones into food?"
Luna nodded proudly. "Indeed! But don't worry, this spell won't affect the taste negatively."
Spike hesitated for a moment, then reached out to touch one of the moonstones. To his surprise, it felt soft and almost dough-like. "Wow, this is amazing!"
Luna smiled, relieved that their argument was behind them. “I’m glad you think so. Now, let’s work together to create something truly spectacular."
After a few hours, once the dough was ready, they carefully molded each mooncake, using moons, stars, and even a few tiny dragons, and again, if Spike saw Luna save one mooncake with a mirror printed, he didn't said a thing. The kitchen was soon filled with the sweet, enticing aroma of baking pastries, making them both eager to taste their creation.
As the first batch finished baking, Spike and Luna “Ready to try one?” Spike asked, his eyes shining with anticipation.
Luna nodded, levitating a mooncake toward them. She broke it in half, revealing the rich, fragrant filling inside. “To our teamwork,” she said, offering Spike one half.
“To the best mooncakes ever,” Spike agreed, taking his piece.
They each took a bite, savoring the flavors that burst across their taste buds. The mooncakes were unlike anything they’d ever tasted—rich, sweet, and with a subtle hint of the mystical. The gemstones added a delicate crunch that complemented the softness of the dough, while the moonstones brought a unique, otherworldly flavor that was so exotic that Spike almost wanted to go there for more.
“This is... amazing,” Spike said, his voice muffled by the mouthful of mooncake
"i think i'm going to cry" Luna said with tears of joy on her eyes, eating her own half of the cake
Present Day
"...Moonstones...And gems?" Mulia said not believing what she just heared.
"But...But...But..." Gustave just looked at them for a few seconds before passing away on the floor.
"Damn, Pinkie was right" Joe said with a mooncake on his mouth, making Mulia look at him disgusted, hitting the cake out of his mouth. "What? Cakes are like donuts"
"...Wait, how all of you entered here? You weren't like...Individually joining?" Spike said pointing at Pinkie confused
"Oh my sweet Spike...Is all a mistery" Pinkie said putting her hat on once again, smiling at...someplace
"...Want some cake?"
"Yes!"
