Chapter 12: A Sudden Attack

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Location: Ponyville - Twilight’s Castle - Living Room - Morning

It was a typical morning in Ponyville, where the sun had just risen, casting warm beams of light through the windows of Twilight’s castle. The Mane 6, Spike, and Sonic were gathered in the living room, enjoying a rare day off from their usual responsibilities. Twilight had suggested they take a break, and everyone readily agreed. They spent the morning sharing stories, playing games, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

Sonic was particularly excited to spend time with his family. Over the years, he had grown incredibly close to the Mane 6 and Spike, seeing them not just as friends, but as his true family. Twilight was like a mother to him, her guidance and care shaping much of who he had become. Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash were like big sisters, each teaching him valuable lessons in their own unique ways. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy were like aunts, always ready with a comforting word or a fun distraction. And Spike, who had quickly become his closest companion, was like a brother in every sense of the word.

“Okay, Sonic, your turn!” Rainbow Dash cheered, eager to see what he’d come up with next.

Sonic grinned, his mind racing as he thought of a new charade. He mimed something exaggeratedly, moving with the same speed and agility he always did, which made guessing a bit of a challenge for the others. Applejack was about to call out her guess when a deafening crash interrupted their fun.

Location: Ponyville - Twilight’s Castle - Living Room - Chaos Unleashed

The wall opposite them exploded inward, debris flying in all directions as a monstrous creature smashed its way through the castle. The beast was massive, towering over them with muscles bulging beneath its thick, scaly hide. Its eyes were dark red, glowing with a malevolent fury as it snarled and looked around the room, searching for its target.

Sonic barely had time to react before the creature’s enormous fist shot forward, slamming into him with such force that the entire castle seemed to tremble. The impact sent Sonic hurtling across the room, crashing into the opposite wall with a sickening thud. He crumpled to the floor, unconscious, a deep gash on his forehead oozing blood.

“Sonic!” Twilight screamed, her heart stopping as she saw him lying motionless.

The rest of the Mane 6 and Spike were frozen in shock for a moment, the sheer ferocity of the attack leaving them stunned. The monster didn’t hesitate; it turned its attention to the others, its eyes gleaming with a cruel intelligence.

Before any of them could react, the creature’s massive hands reached out, grabbing them with a terrifying speed. Twilight tried to summon her magic, her horn glowing brightly, but the beast’s grip tightened around her, cutting off her concentration. The others struggled as well, but the monster’s strength was overwhelming.

With a guttural roar, the creature activated a strange, swirling portal beneath its feet. It teleported away, taking Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Spike with it, leaving behind a devastated living room and an unconscious Sonic, who was completely unaware that his family had just been taken from him.

Location: Ponyville - Twilight’s Castle - Living Room - Hours Later

Hours passed in silence. The once warm and cheerful living room was now eerily quiet, the only sound being the occasional creak of the damaged walls settling. Sonic lay still, his body battered and his forehead still bleeding from the brutal impact.

Finally, as the afternoon sun began to dip toward the horizon, Sonic stirred. A soft groan escaped his lips as he slowly regained consciousness. His vision was blurry, and every part of his body ached. He blinked, trying to clear his vision, and raised a shaky hand to his forehead. When he pulled his hand away, he saw it was smeared with blood. Panic began to rise within him.

He tried to push himself up, but his limbs felt heavy, his movements sluggish and uncoordinated. As he sat up, the room spun around him, and he had to close his eyes to steady himself. Slowly, he opened them again and looked around.

The sight that greeted him filled him with dread. The living room was in shambles. The wall was completely destroyed, furniture was overturned, and there was no sign of his family. The realization hit him like a ton of bricks—something terrible had happened while he was unconscious.

“Mom? Applejack? Rainbow? Spike?” Sonic’s voice was weak and laced with fear as he called out to the empty room. But there was no answer, only the haunting silence.

His heart pounded in his chest as he struggled to piece together what had happened. The last thing he remembered was the creature’s fist coming at him, and then… darkness. He touched his bleeding forehead again, wincing as pain flared up. He knew he was in bad shape, but that didn’t matter now. His family was gone, and he had to find them.

But where could they be? And who could have taken them? Sonic’s thoughts raced as he tried to think of what to do next. He remembered the stories he had heard about the Princesses of Equestria—Celestia and Luna. They were the rulers of the land, wise and powerful. If anyone could help him, it was them.

Sonic knew what he had to do. He had to get to Canterlot and warn the Princesses. But as he tried to stand, a wave of dizziness nearly sent him crashing back to the floor. His injuries were worse than he had realized, and the blood loss was taking its toll.

Location: Ponyville - Twilight’s Castle - Struggling to Move

With a great deal of effort, Sonic managed to get to his feet. His legs wobbled beneath him, and his vision blurred with each step. Every part of his body screamed in protest, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself forward. He had no time to waste. Every second counted.

He stumbled through the ruined living room, his hand clutching his forehead as he made his way to the door. Each step felt like a monumental effort, his muscles straining under the weight of his injuries. But he couldn’t stop now. He had to keep going. He had to save them.

Sonic reached the castle’s main entrance, his hand trembling as he pushed open the door. The cool breeze of the evening air hit him, refreshing but also making him shiver as it stung his wound. He took a deep breath, gathering what little strength he had left, and began to run.

Location: Ponyville - Roads to Canterlot - Early Evening

The path to Canterlot was long, and the usually easy journey seemed nearly impossible in Sonic’s condition. He was slower than he had ever been, each step a struggle. His body was screaming for him to stop, to rest, but he couldn’t afford to listen. He had to keep going.

The trees and houses of Ponyville blurred past him as he forced himself forward, his heart pounding not just from exertion but from the fear gnawing at him. What if he didn’t make it in time? What if the Princesses couldn’t help? What if… No. He couldn’t let those thoughts consume him. He had to stay focused.

But the longer he ran, the harder it became to ignore the pain. His vision was beginning to tunnel, the edges of his sight darkening with each passing minute. His legs felt like they were filled with lead, his movements sluggish and uncoordinated. He stumbled more than once, his body pitching forward as he tried to stay upright.

The blood from his forehead wound trickled down into his eyes, blurring his vision further. He wiped at it with the back of his hand, but it did little to help. Each time he fell, the impact sent shockwaves of pain through his already battered body. But each time, he forced himself back up, knowing he couldn’t afford to stop.

The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. The sight would have been beautiful under different circumstances, but for Sonic, it was a reminder of how little time he had left. He had to reach Canterlot before nightfall, before the trail went cold.

His thoughts kept returning to his family—Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Spike. They were counting on him. He could see their faces in his mind, their smiles, their laughter, and it fueled his determination. He couldn’t let them down.

Location: Canterlot - Castle Gates - Twilight Hours

By the time Sonic finally reached the base of Canterlot Mountain, his body was on the verge of collapse. The towering city above seemed impossibly far, the path winding and steep. But he knew he had no choice. He had to keep going.

His legs trembled violently as he began the ascent, each step a monumental effort. He was barely moving at this point, his speed reduced to a crawl as his body fought against him. But the thought of his family being in danger was stronger than the pain. It kept him going, even as every fiber of his being screamed for him to stop.

As he neared the castle gates, Sonic’s body finally gave out. He collapsed onto the ground, unable to take another step. His vision was fading, the world around him growing darker. But he had made it. The castle was right there.

The guards stationed at the entrance saw him fall and immediately rushed to his side. Their faces were masks of concern as they looked down at the small, blue creature lying at their feet, his body bruised and bloodied.

“Someone get help!” one of the guards called out, and another sprinted toward the castle, shouting for assistance.

Sonic tried to speak, but his voice was barely a whisper. “Please… Princesses… My family… They’re in danger…” The words were broken, desperate, but filled with a resolve that kept him conscious for just a bit longer.

The guards exchanged worried glances but didn’t hesitate. They gently lifted Sonic, careful not to aggravate his injuries, and carried him into the castle. Despite his injuries and the pain, Sonic kept murmuring, his words fading in and out as he repeated, “I have to save them… Please…”

Location: Canterlot - Castle Hallways - Twilight and Celestia

The grand hallways of Canterlot Castle, usually so full of light and splendor, were dim in the twilight hours. Sonic’s vision blurred as he was carried through them, the voices around him growing distant as he fought to stay conscious. But his strength was fading fast.

They reached the throne room, the large ornate doors opening before them to reveal Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, both seated on their thrones. The sight of the two alicorns was awe-inspiring, their regal presence filling the room with a powerful, calming energy.

But as soon as they saw Sonic, their expressions turned to ones of deep concern. They rose from their thrones immediately, moving swiftly to where the guards were laying Sonic down.

“Sonic?” Princess Celestia’s voice was soft, filled with worry. “What has happened? Where is Twilight?”

Sonic struggled to speak, his voice weak and trembling. “Monster… took them… my family… please… help…”

Princess Luna knelt beside him, her horn glowing as she attempted to assess his injuries. “He’s hurt badly, Sister. We must get him to safety.”

But Sonic shook his head weakly, his eyes half-open and pleading. “No… please… you have to find them… before it’s too late…”

Princess Celestia looked at Sonic with a mixture of sorrow and determination. “We will find them, Sonic. But first, we must help you. You’re gravely injured.”

Sonic tried to protest, but the pain and exhaustion finally caught up to him. His vision went dark, and his body went limp as he slipped into unconsciousness, his last thoughts a jumbled mix of fear and hope that his family would be saved.

Location: Canterlot - Castle Infirmary - Night

When Sonic awoke, he found himself lying in a soft bed, bandages wrapped around his forehead and various other parts of his body. The room was quiet, lit only by the soft glow of the moonlight streaming in through the window. He felt weak, but the sharp pain in his head had dulled to a more manageable ache.

Princess Luna was seated beside his bed, her expression one of quiet concern. As soon as she saw his eyes open, she leaned forward slightly, her voice gentle.

“How do you feel, Sonic?”

Sonic blinked a few times, his mind still foggy from the injuries. “Where… where am I?”

“You’re in the castle infirmary,” Luna explained. “You’ve been unconscious for a few hours. We’ve treated your wounds, but you need to rest.”

Memories of what happened earlier came rushing back to Sonic, and he tried to sit up, but Luna placed a gentle hoof on his shoulder, urging him to stay still.

“The monster… it took them…” Sonic’s voice was laced with fear. “You have to find them, please…”

“Rest assured, Sonic,” Luna said, her tone soothing but firm. “We have already begun the search. My sister and I have dispatched search parties, and we are using every resource available to locate your family.”

“But… what if…” Sonic’s voice trembled with emotion. “What if we’re too late?”

Luna’s eyes softened with understanding. “You mustn’t lose hope. Twilight, Spike, and the others are strong. We will find them, and we will bring them back safely. But you must focus on getting better. They will need you at your best when they return.”

Sonic felt a lump in his throat, his worry for his family overwhelming. But he knew Luna was right. He had to trust in the Princesses and in his family’s strength. They had faced dangers before, and they would do so again. Still, the fear gnawed at him, making it hard to relax.

“Please…” Sonic whispered. “Please find them…”

“We will,” Luna promised, her voice filled with determination. “But for now, you must rest. Let us take care of this.”

Sonic finally relented, his body too weak to argue further. As he lay back down, exhaustion overtook him once more. He closed his eyes, his thoughts lingering on his family, hoping with all his heart that they were safe.

Luna remained by his side, watching over him as he drifted back into a restless sleep. The night was long, and the search had just begun. But she and Celestia would not rest until they brought their friends back home.
