The two mares had to ask for a wheelchair cart, since my hindlegs were too injured to walk on. The waiting. The Celestia-damned waiting. I thought. waiting for the cart. Things are different here, they have to be, but the uncertainty…

“Please follow me.” An earth pony with a pink mane and white coat said. I started walking after her, before Fluttershy spoke up – albiet quietly.

“Do you want me to come with you?” I started to shake my head again, but decided against it. She puts me at ease, I guess. I nodded. When we got to the room, Fluttershy stood close to the bench. She’s acting sort of… protective? Is this normal for her?

A few minutes passed. Then ten. Then another nurse pony came in. “We don’t have any batponies registered in Ponyville, so I don’t have any of your medical records. Can you fill out this information for me?” I nodded, and took the quill, ink, and paper in my hooves. The nurse walked out, and I looked at the form

I stared at the form. I wasn’t expecting… I knew things would be different here, I kept telling myself that, but… I didn’t expect things to be-

“Is it why you left?” I heard Fluttershy ask. I looked back up at her, acutely aware of the tears in my eyes.

“It’s part of why I live here. I grew up in cloudsdale, but…” She started. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be prying like this, but… your voice. It reminded me of mine, back when…” She suddenly pulled me into a hug, and then finished, “Back when I needed somepony the most. You reminded me so much of myself, I just…”

I nodded slightly. “Thanks.” I responded quietly. “Are things – are they really that different here? Better?”

“Yes. Not perfect, but much, much better.”
