Applejack and Rarity's relationship doesn't always go as smoothly as they would like. Their interests are often diametrically opposed, and though they try there's simply only so much that Applejack can tolerate of Bridleway musicals and only so much farmwork that Rarity can put up with. It works out in the end, though, because they simply enjoy the presence of each other's company (and their beautiful forms, as a bonus). It's not such a big deal, then, if they become addicted to a strange fruit they find in the forest, so long as they have each other.
