Sonata Dusk, the youngest of the three girls who were formerly known as The Dazzlings, woke with a start and sat up in bed, gripping her blankets tightly. She had woken from a nightmare, and because she had anxiety, it made her nightmares that much worse and more terrifying for her. Tears began to form in her eyes as she looked over at her bedside table's digital clock to check the time, seeing that it was nearing 2:30am. She reached for her stuffed horse she slept with that helped to keep her calm and held him tightly to her chest as tears began running down her cheeks. Sonata cried for a couple of minutes before she decided to go and wake her older sister Aria Blaze, so she could seek some comfort and go back to sleep.
Since she had a relatively severe case of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, she often went to Aria for everything she needed, whether it be for comfort, to cry, or to ask for something to eat or drink. Mainly doing this because her oldest sister, Adagio Dazzle, cared very little to not at all about her anxiety and was always quick to dismiss her as just being whiny to get attention and to make Aria feel bad for her. Aria on the other hand, was very protective of Sonata and was always quick to defend and speak up for her, but she also made sure to not raise her voice when addressing Sonata or make super quick movements when she was around Sonata, since Aria knew that her younger sister didn't like those things.
Sonata got out of her bed and walked over to her bedroom door and quietly opened it, stepping out into the hall and shutting it behind her again. Still holding her stuffed horse and crying, she walked down the hall towards her older sisters bedrooms, which were across from one another. Aria's being on the right side of the hallway and Adagio's being on the left. When she reached Aria's bedroom door, she quickly and quietly opened it and stepped into the room, closing the door behind her once she was in the room. As she approached her sister's bed, she saw that her older sister was in a deep sleep, as she normally was, and felt kind of bad for waking her up, despite knowing that Aria wouldn't mind.
When Sonata reached the bed, she crawled onto the bed instead of kneeling down next to it, since she knew Aria never cared, as her older sister loved her. Once on the bed, she looked down at her older sister and gently reached over and shook her right shoulder to wake her.
"Ari." Sonata whispered as she gently shook her older sister awake.
"What?" Aria asked quietly, opening her eyes to see what Sonata wanted, knowing it was Sonata waking her because Adagio usually never did.
Sonata didn't answer, she just gestured that she wanted Aria to sit up in her bed and then buried her face into Aria's chest and began to cry once Aria had sat up. Wrapping her arms around Aria's waist.
"Shh, it's ok." Aria softly whispered, "What happened Nata?" she softly asked, referring to her younger sister by the nickname she was only allowed to call her when they were alone.
"I, I had a bad dream." Sonata answered between sobs, still hugging her older sister.
"What was your dream about?" Aria softly asked, gently rubbing her younger sister's back to help her calm down.
Reaching over with her other hand and grabbing her phone off her iHome where it was currently charging. Turning it on to check it, as she knew that she'd be up for a bit with Sonata which she didn't mind.
"It started out with you being mad at me, and then you and Dagi left me." Sonata explained between, beginning to calm down a little now that she was with her sister.
"It's ok Nata. Adagio and I won't leave you and I'm definitely not mad at you. I could never be mad at you." Aria softly explained once she heard what Sonata's dream had been about.
"I know that Ari. I just don't like it when I have dreams like that." Sonata quietly explained, moving her head to rest it on Aria's left shoulder.
"I know you don't." Aria softly replied, "I'm here now, so why don't we get you calmed down and then we can go back to bed ok." she softly explained, clicking on her SnapChat to check it after seeing that she had three notifications for SnapChat.
Sonata didn't answer, she just stayed silently while she focused on calming herself down enough so that she and Aria could go back to sleep. Grabbing a few strands of Aria's hair to play with while she calmed down, running it between her fingers. Aria felt this, but didn't mind, as she knew that Sonata often played with her hair while she calmed down. Aria slid to her SnapChat camera and took a photo of her and Sonata cuddling together, captioning it and then posting it to her memories as well as sending it to eight people. Once she did, she turned off her phone and set it back down on her iHome so it could finish charging.
"Sorry Ari." Sonata quietly apologized, her older sister moving to lay down again.
"For what?' Aria asked, looking at her younger sister.
"Waking you up and making you cuddle with me." Sonata answered, looking up at Aria as she rested her head on her sister's chest.
"That's alright Nata, I don't mind." Aria softly stated, "I love you, you know that. You just did what you normally do when you get upset, so don't be sorry for that ok." she added.
"I know Ari. I just feel bad about waking you up when you're sleeping." Sonata explained, "I know you don't really like it when Dagi does it." she added, shooting her older sister a small smile.
"Hey. It's different when Adagio wakes me up because she usually doesn't want anything urgent." Aria began explaining, "When you wake me up, I know it's important because you don't unless it is." she finished.
"Thanks Ari." Sonata said when Aria pulled the covers up over top of them both. Happy that she was always allowed to sleep with her younger sister when she got upset.
"You're welcome Nata." Aria replied, grabbing Sonata's stuffed horse and setting him down next to her.
Sonata grabbed her stuffed horse and held onto him while Aria continued to rub her shoulder, she still hadn't taken a deep breath to indicate that she was relaxing again and Aria wanted her to before they went back to sleep.
"Are you ok now?" Aria asked a couple minutes later, feeling her sister take a deep breath.
"Now that I'm with you I am." Sonata answered as she gently moved her stuffed horse closer to her.
"That's good." Aria said, "That's probably why you had the dream that you had, you were probably slightly upset that you weren't with me." she explained.
"Probably." Sonata replied.
Since Sonata had anxiety and Aria was her main support person, she often got separation anxiety when she and Aria were separated. It usually occurred during the daytime when Aria went to town without her or was in a separate room of the house, but sometimes she got a surge of it at nighttime and it usually caused her to become upset and not be able to sleep. She often got a bad dream due to it as well.
Aria began gently stroking Sonata's hair, as it usually helped her sister fall asleep, especially after waking up due to being upset. After a few minutes went by, she looked down and noted that Sonata had drifted off to sleep, still resting her head on Aria's chest. Aria smiled and then very gently moved her sister's head to rest it beside her on the pillow so she could get comfortable to go back to sleep herself. When she moved to get comfortable, Sonata became restless and began to say Aria's name while she slept, Aria knew what to do in order to calm her down though.
"Shh it's ok. I'm right here. Go back to sleep Nata." Aria softly whispered as she gently kissed her younger sister's left cheek.
Sonata settled again, enough so that Aria could get comfortable, once Aria was comfortable and laying on her right side, facing her sister, Sonata moved over and gently cuddled up to her. She had her stuffed horse between them and she wrapped her arms around Aria's waist. Aria smiled and gently wrapped her right arm over her sister to keep her close and then soon fell back into a deep sleep.
Author's Note
Well, here's another story that I've had saved in an archive for a couple of years now. Again, I hope you all like these shorter stories that I've had saved up, and I hope they'll work to keep you all satisfied until my larger story that I'm currently working on is completed and ready for publishing.
