A thunderous boom, a fiery sight,
A cannonball landed, with all its might
The sand flew high, a deafening roar,
As Allura's panic began to soar

She zigzagged and dodged, with nimble grace,
A deadly dance, a dangerous chase
Twitch, clinging tight, a fearless friend,
His presence a comfort, to the very end

The cave, a beacon, a glimmer of hope,
As cannonballs struck, a heavy scope
Allura, determined, reached the door,
As rubble fell, the danger no more

Safe in the cave, they breathed a sigh,
As danger passed, their spirits high
A narrow escape, a lucky break,
As fate intervened, for goodness' sake

Allura stalked deeper into the cavern, her tail still flicking in frustration behind her. The dim light and uneven stone walls were nothing compared to the trials she’d already endured, but she wasn’t exactly thrilled about trudging through some dark, damp cave after almost being obliterated by cannon fire. Still, she moved forward, her paws padding softly over the rocky ground.

After a about an hour of walking deeper into the cavern in contemplative silence, Allura's eyes caught sight of something glimmering in the dim light of the cavern. Nestled among a cluster of snow-covered rocks, sat a large, metallic sphere. It hovered silently, its surface smooth and reflective, gleaming with an otherworldly light. A strange hum seemed to emanate from it, vibrating through the air.

Allura’s eyes widened, curiosity overpowering her caution. "What manner of magic is at work here?" she muttered, padding closer. Twitch’s ears perked up, and his nose twitched rapidly in alarm. He jumped off Allura's back and landed in front of her, furiously shaking his head, ears flopping from side to side like frantic flags in a gale.

Allura rolled her eyes at him. “Oh, come on, Twitch, it’s just a… ball? A very shiny ball. What’s the worst it could do?” She raised a paw towards it, her curiosity piqued.

Twitch’s frantic shaking intensified, his whole body vibrating with panic now. He waved his paws wildly, trying to get her attention, but Allura had already moved closer, her paw reaching toward the metallic surface.

The moment her paw got close, it was yanked forward with a sudden, powerful force. Her paw slapped onto the sphere with a loud, echoing thwack. Allura’s eyes went wide with shock. “What the—?” She tried to pull her paw back, but it was stuck fast to the metal. “Oh, great… just great!”

She tried to use her other forepaw to pry herself free, but as soon as it got close, it too was sucked onto the surface with a sharp, magnetic snap. “Oh, come on!” she growled, her patience wearing thin. She tugged with all her might, but it was no use. Her paws were stuck fast.

Twitch hopped around in a panic, shaking his head, his eyes wide with worry. He seemed to be silently pleading with her to stop whatever she was doing, but Allura, now thoroughly frustrated, ignored him. "Fine, if that’s how you want to play it," she snarled at the sphere, leaping onto it with all four paws.

The moment her hind paws hit the metal, they too were pulled in with a loud slap. Allura found herself splayed awkwardly across the sphere, stuck to it like a cat on a particularly annoying piece of flypaper. She tried to push herself off, but nothing worked. The sphere, sensing her struggle, began to hum louder, vibrating beneath her.

“Let… me... go!” Allura demanded, leaning back with all her weight. The sphere, however, did the opposite. It began to spin, slowly at first, then faster as she rocked back and forth. Allura’s paws finally lifted, but not in the way she wanted; she found herself moving in circles as the sphere spun faster and faster. She was forced to trot, then jog, and finally run just to keep her balance.

“Oh, no, no, no!” Allura yelped, her paws moving frantically now as the sphere picked up speed. She felt like she was running on a giant hamster wheel. The sphere shifted directions, tilting and wobbling, forcing her to run in strange, zigzagging paths.

"Twitch!" she shouted, her voice filled with urgency. “Do something! Stop this crazy thing!”

Twitch, at a loss but determined to help, dashed over and grabbed Allura’s tail with his small teeth. He yanked with all his might. The unexpected tug made Allura lose her footing, and she fell flat against the sphere. The metal spun even faster now, and both she and Twitch were whipped around on its surface like a couple of ragdolls caught in a whirlwind.

"Ahhhh!" Allura shrieked, her claws scraping against the metal as the sphere spun out of control. Twitch clung to her tail, eyes wide, his cheeks puffed out like a squirrel in a snowstorm. The sphere’s speed increased, the hum turning into a high-pitched whine, a sound that seemed to fill the entire cavern.

In a moment of desperation, Allura found just enough leverage to push herself up. She timed her jump perfectly, launching herself off the sphere and latching onto a nearby stalagmite with her forepaws. “Ha! Got it!” she grinned triumphantly.

Twitch fell off and landed on his tail. He looked up and let out a scream at what he saw.

Allura turned and saw what Twitch was screaming at. Her tail was stretched out and still tightly wrapped around the spinning sphere. She stared at it in horror as the sphere continued to rotate, winding her tail tighter and tighter.

“Uh-oh…”

The sphere suddenly changed direction, spinning in reverse, and her tail began to unwind. The stored tension released all at once, and with a tremendous snap, Allura was flung off like a slingshot, her body hurtling through the air, deeper into the cave.

“AHHHHHH!” Allura screamed as she shot over some stalagmites and then plummeted down a steep incline, her limbs flailing as she tumbled. Rocks scraped against her fur, and her body bumped and rolled painfully over the uneven slope. With each rough impact, her already foul mood darkened.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she hit the bottom with a thud, sprawling out in a most ungraceful heap. Groaning, Allura lay there, dazed, as she tried to gather herself. Her head throbbed, her fur was in complete disarray, and her pride—well, it was practically non-existent at that point.

Twitch, after weaving through the maze of stalagmites, hopped down after her, his light, nimble form descending the slope with far more grace than she had managed. He landed softly beside her, his nose twitching as he checked to see if she was alright. But before he could offer any sign of concern, Allura shot up, fur bristling, and glared at him with fiery golden eyes.

“Why didn’t you try harder to stop me?” she snarled, her voice sharp as her claws, her tail lashing angrily behind her.

Twitch, ever calm, gave her a quiet look, his eyes wide but soft, as if to say, "I tried to warn you", without needing words. He motioned with his paws for her to breathe, to calm down, but the silent gestures only stoked the fire in her.

Allura’s lip curled, and she raised a paw, claws unsheathed, as if ready to swipe at him in her frustration. "Don't tell me to calm down!" she snapped. "You think this is funny, do you?"

But Twitch, in his usual quiet way, didn’t flinch. Instead, he gently reached up and grabbed her raised paw with his smaller ones, his paws cool and soft against her own. Allura blinked, tilting her head in confusion. "What are you doing?" she growled, but the edge in her voice was already dulling.

Twitch said nothing, of course. Instead, he squeezed her paw slightly, causing her retractable claws to pop out further, gleaming in the low light of the cave. Then, with surprising efficiency, he began to buff her claws with the fur on his forearm, moving with swift, deliberate strokes.

Allura’s mouth opened, but no sound came out as she watched, bewildered. Twitch worked diligently, moving in quick, smooth motions, his fur providing the perfect buffer to polish her sharp claws. He kept his eyes focused on the task, rubbing each claw with the precision of someone who’d done this a hundred times before. The movements were so fast, yet gentle, almost like a tiny artisan working on his latest masterpiece.

The feel of his fur brushing against her claws was oddly soothing, and despite her villainous demeanor and all her pent-up frustration, Allura found herself relaxing under his touch. His soft fur buffed away the grime and dirt from her earlier struggles, leaving her claws gleaming and clean. It was such a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes about their relationship, about how Twitch, in his quiet, unassuming way, always knew how to defuse her anger.

“Seriously?” Allura muttered, her voice softened by surprise. “You're really doing this now?”

Twitch paused, looked up at her, and flashed a cheeky grin, one that spoke volumes without him having to say a single word.

For a moment, Allura just stared at him, her tail twitching with uncertainty. But then, she couldn’t help it—a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. It wasn’t often that anyone could get under her skin in such a way that made her actually appreciate it.

She lifted her freshly-buffed paw, admiring the way her claws caught the dim light. Clean. Shiny. Almost elegant. Allura sighed, the last remnants of her earlier anger fading away. “Alright, fine,” she muttered, flicking her tail. “All is forgiven. This time.”

Twitch stood up, his whiskers twitching as if to say "I knew it." He crossed his arms and nodded smugly, still flashing that quiet, knowing grin.

Allura flicked her tail and gestured to her back. “Get up, then. So we can both stay out of trouble.”

Twitch didn’t hesitate. With a quick hop, he bounded onto her back, settling between her shoulder blades with a comfortable familiarity. His soft fur brushed against her as he settled in, and Allura padded forward once more, deeper into the cavern.

Despite her earlier frustration, she now felt a bit more at ease. The darkness of the cave no longer felt so ominous, and with Twitch perched securely on her back, she couldn’t help but feel that, no matter what else this place threw at them, they could handle it. Together.
