Chapter 11: Last Hope

Chorus thoroughly studied the reversal spell in the book. All he had to do was make sure he didn’t send any non-clones back into the pond. That wouldn’t be difficult, considering every non-clone was incapacitated at this point. But, he also had to wake up the incapacitated ponies. If he didn’t want to draw the Dollkeeper straight to him, it would be wise to do both of those as quickly as possible, or at the same time. Chorus brainstormed how he could possibly make this work.

He knew it had to be in a song. That was the only reason his teleportation spell had worked. He just had to come up with a song that perfectly encapsulated the essence of what he was trying to express. It was impossible. Chorus pulled at his mane in frustration. He was way out of his depth. Just a couple days ago he had been singing innocent songs in the streets of Ponyville, and now he was expected to save the entire town. Chorus recalled what Prose had said to him before she was unfortunately whisked away.

I know you are capable of more than you think you are. All you have to do is believe it too. Those words echoed in Chorus’s mind. He remembered all he had done in the past few days. He had uncovered a villainous plot to take over Ponyville, He had successfully evaded evil forces several times. He used his music magic to cast a complex spell. He survived a night in the Everfree Forest. He made friends.

Casting a single spell to save Ponyville might have been impossible, but Chorus had accomplished the impossible before. He could do it again. He concentrated hard on his magic, allowing the instrumentation in his mind to manifest out of his horn. A catchy melody streamed out with the magic. Strings and percussion harmoniously collided to create an accompaniment worthy of a battle song. Chorus dreamed up lyrics about his ultimate goal. He thought about the clones slowly taking over the lives of his neighbors. He thought about the ponies lying comatose in an underground tunnel. He thought about Pinkie Pie. He thought about Prose. He thought about Ginger Blush. He took a deep breath and recited his final hope aloud:

I know things may seem quite bleak
The damage seems beyond repair
But searching in the dark for hope
I find there’s something there

Cheap copies roam my town
Like they’ve been here all along
I wish them all away
Send them back where they belong

There’s an evil setting traps
My friends are stuck in slumber
Let them all wake once again

Save them from the spell they’re under

I miss the ponies of my town
And that’s why I sing this song
I love it here in Ponyville
Where everypony belongs

Chorus blasted music magic out of his horn, blending the melodious noise into a satisfying outro. He reigned the song in for one final measure, and released the spell once and for all. A blinding light exploded out of his horn, phasing past the walls of his home, expanding all over the city. Chorus struggled to keep his footing as the force of his magic pushed him backwards. He locked his hooves in place and let the magic flow out of his horn until it was completely finished. When the light finally left his horn, he fell to his knees, exhausted and completely drained. With the last of his energy, he picked himself up and stormed towards Twilight Sparkle’s castle, ready to face the Dollkeeper.

Prose watched from outside of Ponyville as an extraordinary pink light encapsulated the town and spread towards her and the crowd of clones. She watched as one by one, the ponies around her collapsed into sparkling dust clouds and floated away, straight towards the Everfree Forest.

“He did it,” she uttered in impressed disbelief. “He really did it.”

Prose set her sights on Ponyville, and ran as fast as she could. She was ready to face the Dollkeeper.

Ginger Blush yawned as her eyes fluttered open. She listened as a multitude of ponies around her began to shuffle about as they woke up. She felt a familiar dirt ground, and she knew she was back in the Mirror Pool cavern. She threw herself up onto her hooves and sprinted past the Mirror Pool, towards the exit tunnel. She was ready to face the Dollkeeper.
