Eclipsed by the Sun

Load Full StoryBeneath the skies, of both dark and bright,
Two sisters ruled a land of joyful light.
Celestia, was the deity of sun and flame,
The younger sister Luna was in the shadow of her name.
Over her subjects dreams and night she would rule,
And place the stars in the blue skies dark pool.
But the world loved the morning glow,
The beautiful night they would never know.
Each dawn was praised, the sun would rise,
While Luna’s night was met by few eyes.
The dreams she made with the greatest love,
Yet the ponies ignored the stars above.
Luna watched, in silent pain,
her kingdom of the night was left to wane.
Ponies sang of Morning dew, of the orange morning glow,
The beauty of the dark blue sky they would never know.
She walked through dreams, and moonlight, alone,
In her darkest thoughts did her mind begin to roam.
Her temperament began to fray,
As she saw ponies cheer for her sister's day.
The envy grew, her hatred soared.
Her hate, her pain, began to roar.
The stars, once white took on a red glow,
Something was wrong, even her sister had to know.
In the stillness of her hate,
Luna hoped her sisters words would change her fate.
She spoke her sadness, she spoke her mind,
But her sisters love she couldn’t find.
“Dear sister, hear me,” Luna pled,
As night around her softly spread.
“The moon deserves to stand with pride,
To share the sky, to not subside.”
Celestia failed to listen, and in her grace,
She smiled warmly to her sister’s face.
“The sun must rise to meet the day,
For without its light, our ponies couldn't play.”
She hugged her sister, and kissed her brow,
And whispered, “I understand you now.
Fear not, for the ponies love both the day and night,
I hope you now feel better and without your plight”
Luna’s heart was still filled with woe,
As her sister left her hate continued to grow.
Each word, unheard, and she knew not why,
For her ponies Luna would still show her evening sky.
She turned away, her voice unheard,
Her heart grew colder after her sisters weakest of word.
In her chamber, Luna’s thoughts would wildly stir,
Self doubt, Envy would only grow in her.
Each night she watched the ponies in their sleep,
Her hatred swelled, her anger ran deep.
"Why do our ponies give the sun such praise,
While the beautiful night is just a hidden haze?
In my sisters shadow I will no longer stand,
All will live in nights shadow at my command."
Power whispered to her from a darkened shade,
Demanding that she ascend, that her empathy fade.
"Claim what is yours, embrace the night,
The sun will forever set by your wondrous might.
No more a shadow, no more unseen,
You will rule as Equestria's rightful Queen."
Luna, still lost in the darkest of thought,
Gave into the power that the darkness sought.
Her heart, full of love, began to twist,
Desperate to be loved, she could not resist.
The stars swirled above at her powerful call,
The Luna we once knew began to fall.
In her the darkness grew and she refused to fight,
An Empress was born of darkness and might.
For power and might she became Nightmare Moon,
Luna was gone, and this power her sister would know soon.
The sun disappeared, and the sky was torn,
The moon eclipsed the sun and eternal night was born.
From her might, this night was the darkest of make,
And all the heavens began to shake.
Celestia, saw the relinquish of daylights glow,
She saw the night refuse to go.
“Sister, why do you create this eternal night?
The world must rise with morning light!”
Nightmare Moon's voice, like a loud thunder rang,
“No longer shall the daylight hang.
The night shall rule, There is no 'we',
And I will be Queen eternally!”
With eyes bright and powerful, her gaze was steel,
Her heart was too cold for love to heal.
Energies clashed, and the sky was torn asunder,
The battle was louder than the greatest of thunder.
Sadness covered Celestia's face,
Yet she met her wrath in fierce embrace.
With each blow, and each strike the heavens would cry,
Ponies watched as two gods warred in the sky.
The world itself was split in two,
As sun and moon in battle flew.
The moon and sun, once bright, began to dim,
As the battle of gods grew grim.
Thunder raged and the heavens cried,
The battle of light and dark left all ponies terrified.
Celestia’s sword was her Light, her flame,
Met Luna’s blade of cold and darkness, as sharp as blame.
The sun blazed hot, the moon burned cold,
This story, into history would fold.
Each strike a wound, each blow was sheer,
Both hearts weighed down with sorrow and fear.
The battle raged, their castle destroyed,
Their home and memories were now a void.
The oceans roared and the land would quake,
The world itself shook in their wake.
Yet Celestia fought not to win,
She still loved her sister deep within.
“Sister, this will only lead to pain,
Please stop this battle and let peace reign.”
No longer Luna, lost in rage’s might,
She she would not stop and she would not see the light.
Her power surged, her eyes still glow,
Her deepest pain her sister would know.
With one last powerful and everlasting blow,
The suns light began to slow.
Her power great, wild and vast,
Brought Celestia to defeat at last.
The sun cried and the stars did weep,
As Celestia fell, her soul asleep.
Nightmare Moon stood, her reign now on high,
The victor in the endless sky.
Within in her heart, a shadow grew,
She may have won, but her pain still knew.
Her sister was left a pallet of defeat,
Yet victory tasted incomplete.
With trembling hooves, she cast the spell,
She bound her sister to the fiery shell.
The sun itself became her cage,
A prison forged from Luna’s rage.
Celestia, was now trapped in the sun,
One thousand years of imprisonment had only begun.
The night was infinite, dark, and still,
As Nightmare moon ruled with iron will.
Her name would rise to the greatest of fame,
Yet her heart still hurt without her sisters flame.
The pain inside would continue still,
The jealousy gone, yet the void would not fill.
Alone she sat upon her throne,
Queen of all of Equestria, yet all alone.
The shadows no longer whispered in her ear,
She longed to have her sister near.
She longed for Celestia’s fiery embrace,
To see the sunshine on her sister’s face.
Why did she do this? How much was lost?
Was the devotion of her ponies worth such a cost?
The stars above were so bright but felt so far,
As Nightmare Moon wished upon every star.
She wished to see her sister, she wished to see her light,
She wished for her sister’s guiding might.
It didn't matter, she was sealed in the sky,
And Nightmare Moon did not understand why.
The night was long, the silence was kept.
Nightmare Moon, deep in her regret, wept.
She ruled all, and she had won,
But her heart was forever lost, eclipsed by the sun.
