My Little Pony: Equestria Girls-Crystal problem
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryNext ChapterOn a stormy Friday in the library of Crystal Prep Academy in autumn, at about 3pm, 4 girls are sitting at a large oak table in the library.
2 are doing homework, one is listening to music through her headphones, while another is tapping away on her phone.
The 4 girls, of average height, are dressed in the usual Crystal Prep Akademy dress code of a reddish-purple blazer and skirt, and a dark blue bow and black shoes.
One of the students, named Sour Sweat, whose skin is a pale light-gold color, while her hair is styled in a ponytail in the back, while in the front she has bangs that reach to the bottom of her forehead, which are a moderate rose color, and which are light moderate pink and interspersed with grayish aquamarine stripes.
Her eyes are a greyish orchid colour, and she is the one in attendance, wearing a blazer in place of a reddish purple vest with a light blue t-shirt underneath.
She wears purple socks that reach to her ankles on both feet.
She has just finished her history homework, which is due in a week and a half on Monday. She completed this homework with one of her friends, Sunny Flare, as it is a historical homework assignment that they have to do as a group.
Sunny Flare has light turquoise-grey skin, while her shoulder-length hair is a filtered mauve with light raspberry-coloured streaks.
The eyes are of a moderate brown colour. On the right side of her hair is an orange flower-shaped hair clip.
The topic of the history homework is the history of a particular building in the city. These two are presenting the history of the city theatre.
"Well, at last we've done the assignment!" said Sour Sweat, looking relieved, as he wiped his brow with his hand:
"Good thing we got the theatre, it's easier to write about than the other buildings."
"I totally agree with you, Sour!" agreed Sunny Flare, "It's a good thing we're not the ones who have to present the history of our school, since there's not much about the school to be found on the internet.
Most of the stuff we found about our school is in very thick books, and there's nothing interesting about our school in those either!"
One of the girls who uses her phone is called Sugarcoat.
Her skin is a greyish orchid colour, while her hair is styled in pigtails, a light opalescent grey with light arctic blue-grey streaks.
The eyes are a moderate indigo colour. He wears orange glasses and has a pink hair clip on the left side of his hair.
She is the only one in attendance who, in addition to her skirt, is wearing an ankle-length pair of dark blue tights.
"The most interesting thing is," Sugarcoat said, reading an article about his school on his phone that described the most interesting thing, "that every fifty years, at exactly midnight on Halloween, the crystals that cover the school begin to glow brightly, and that this event ends within five to 10 minutes after midnight. What causes this special event is a mystery even to scientists."
The fourth girl, who was listening to music, stopped the music and took off her pink headphones just as Sugarcoat started the article, which is why she heard his entire speech. This girl's name is Lemon Zest.
Her skin is a pale light grayish-amber color. Her waist-length hair is a light pistachio color, interspersed with light grayish green and bright bright lemon green streaks. The eyes are a light brilliant amber. Like Sour Sweat, she wears knee-length purple socks.
"Maybe it's magic too!" said Lemon casually, as the three other girls looked at her, but in a way that you could read on their faces, "you've got to be kidding?"
"Lemon, we can't attribute everything weird to magic," Sour Sweat explained, "surely there must be some scientific explanation for this event!"
"Maybe Sour Sweat, but don't forget the events of six months ago, I'm thinking of the Friendship Games events!" said Lemon as she reminded the others of what happened six months ago.
"Yes, we remember the Friendship Games event, and we remember that it was because of magic, but that doesn't mean that this Hallowenn event is because of magic!" explained Sunny Flare to Lemon.
"It's very likely that this event will happen again tomorrow," Sugarcoat told the others as he continued to read the article, "because based on the date in the article, tomorrow will be 50 years since this event was last seen. This will be the 4th time in the school's history that this event has happened.
It will even be observed by the city's science team and will even be broadcast on public television when it happens."
"Hey girls, we might as well check it out," offered Sour Sweat, to which the other 3 girls turned their heads towards her, "I don't have anything to do at midnight!"
"Actually, I don't have any plans for midnight either," said Sunny, "I can probably watch it, and you..."
She stopped talking here, because she saw something on one of the crystal walls of the library, right between Lemon Zest and Sugarcoat.
What he saw was some strange midnight black liquid flowing down the crystal wall and dripping onto the clean wooden floor.
""What's that there?!" asks Sunny, surprised and frightened at the same time.
The others turned to where Sunny was looking. When they noticed this strange substance, there were those who were startled and those who speculated as to what it was, while Sugarcoat took a photo with his phone. When Sugarcoat took the photo, she noticed in the photo that the substance that had been splashed on the floor had crystallized.
He walked closer and noticed that the dripping crystal crystallized in a matter of seconds.
"I wonder what this midnight black liquid could be?" asked Lemon Zest, and then he saw a broom nearby, which he picked up and touched the end of the handle to the strange liquid dripping down the wall.
The moment he touched the liquid, the liquid began to crystallize on the broom's metal handle, and this crystallization almost reached Lemon's hand if he hadn't dropped the broom.
"Holy crap, what the hell is that?" shouted Sunny, then dragged a stunned Lemon away from the crystal.
When they all started to move away, they noticed that not only was this particular liquid on this crystal wall, but it was also on all the other crystal walls that were constantly flowing down.
When they turned around, they suddenly noticed that on to, large oak table in front of them, this strange liquid was dripping continuously, almost without stopping, turning all the objects on the table into crystal.
Then they looked up at the ceiling and were frightened by what they saw. On the Crystal Ceiling, several small crystals and one large crystal had formed, dripping liquid almost continuously.
These crystals were photographed by Sugarcoat in order to have proof, which he explained to his friends.
"Where do you think this can disappear to?" asked Sunny.
Just as Sugarcoat was about to answer, a small crystal was suddenly knocked off the wall and fell onto the oak table, shattering the crystal. Fortunately, the scattered shards of crystal did not hit anyone. When they heard the shattering of the crystal, they tensed and looked up at the ceiling, then became frightened as the crystal on the ceiling continued to spread and the crystal above the table began to crack, threatening to fall.
"I think girls, let's get out of here, but right now!" said Lemon nervously, and then they started running towards the exit all at once.
As they were running towards the exit, the large midnight black crystal shard finally broke off and started to fall.
It hit the oak table underneath just as the girls were leaving the library. The falling shard of crystal finally shattered the oak table, and the piece of the table hit some bookshelves. The crystallized objects on the table were shattered by the large crystal that fell.
After the girls ran out of the library and rounded a second corner, they almost ran into an adult woman.
This woman had pale, light greyish-cherry skin, while her waist-length hair was a moderate violet with bright pink and pale golden streaks. The eyes are a pale, light greyish-purple. She wears a navy blue blazer and a light blue t-shirt underneath.
On the left side of the navy blue blazer is pinned a multifaceted light blue crystal heart set between gold lace.
She wears a gold necklace around her neck. She also wears a turquoise blue knee-length skirt and gold colored high heels.
This woman was Principal Cadance, who has been the school's headmistress for six months after being promoted.
"Hey girls, watch out or I might bump into someone!" scolded Principal Cadance to the girls.
"Sorry Principal Cadance," said Lemon apologetically, "but something weird and scary just happened in the library!"
"What?" asked Cadance, concerned and curious at the same time.
"I think Principal Cadance, you'd better see it for yourself!" said Sunny Flare with a serious expression.
Cadance, seeing Sunny's serious expression, started walking with the girls towards the library.
Once they got there and entered the library doors, Cadance was surprised at the extent of the destruction.
But even before Cadance could take the girls to account for what had happened, Sour Sweat suddenly spoke up at what she had seen.
"Where did all those crystals go?" asked Sour Sweat in surprise, just as the other three girls were about to ask the same question.
Sugarcoat took out his phone and showed Cadance the pictures of the crystals.
"Good heavens, I've never seen anything like this in all my time working here at the school," Cadance said to the girls in surprise, "what could have caused this?"
"All we know is that this liquid was flowing out of the crystals, but how this could have happened, we don't know," Sugarcoat explained.
"Maybe it was magic!" suggested Lemon.
"Not everything can be attributed to magic, but suddenly I don't know any other explanation!" said Sugarcoat.
"But, unfortunately, we don't know anything about magic," said Sunny, "but maybe the Canterlot High School students can help us.
"That's a great idea, Sunny," Cadance agreed, "I'll go and call them right away, but first I'd like to ask Sugarcoat to come to the secretariat, because I need to get those pictures printed so I can show them to Principal Celestia."
"Okay, Principal!" said Sugarcoat, and then she started to walk with Principal Cadance to the secretariat.
But before Cadance left the sight of the other 3 girls, Cadance turned around to look the girls in the eyes.
"Please don't upload these pictures to any community media, because I don't want any fuss about this, okay? And I'm shutting down the library until we solve this mystery and get it cleaned up."
"All right, Principal Cadance!" the girls agreed with Principal Cadance.
Once Cadance was out of sight, Sour Sweat spoke up.
"Too bad we have to do our homework again, Sunny!" said Sour Sweat sadly to Sunny.
"Don't worry, I took a picture of the whole thing!" said Sunny to Sour Sweat.
