Something to change everything
Chapter 6: Some things never change.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterJacob awoke on a couch... when did he fall asleep? Much less when did he enter a building? He slowly got up from the couch and looked at his clothes neatly piled up before putting them on. The orange pegasus from yesterday trotted into the room with a backpack of sorts on her back. Was... School currently active in this world?
Scootaloo explained most of what happened and said that, thanks to Bad Guy, Jacob had been signed up for school in Ponyville. Great.
Jacob's pocket pack was on his back as he and Scootaloo trotted to meet up with her friends and get to school. After getting the fillies, the group went to the school. Turns out that none of these fillies are older than he is. All mostly around 7-9 years old.
When school officially started for the day, Jacob joined the CMC in class. He looked at the teacher, an earth pony named Miss Cheerilee, as she looked at him. Jacob took a deep breath as she called him up to introduce himself. "Hello, I am Jacob. I'm new to town and... well... I'll be straight with you all. I'm not from this world. I'm a hero from a whole 'nother world where I fought monsters beyond your wildest dreams! And it all acclimated... that's the word my brother'd use, right? Yeah. When it all acclimated, me and many other heroes had to fight Bad Guy at his absolute max power! It was a long and difficult battle but we did it. We had saved the day from Bad Guy... then me and a few of the other heroes not blessed with the godly energy went and tried to ransack Bad Guy's base since, at that point, me and everyone else thought he was dead but nope. The base started shaking, all three of the ones I came with ran off while I got captured and thrown into his base's dungeons so... yeah. That's how I'm in this world, stuck in a place I really didn't want to be in... ever," Jacob explained as he went to go and sit down. Everyone looked at him like he was crazy. Minus Sweetie Belle who knew the story.
The school day went on and they eventually got recess. Jacob was on his own before two fillies, a pink one with a purple mane that had a white stripe in it and a grey one that wore glassed, came up to him. "Wow, who'd have thought a blank flank could tell such a story, I bet every word of it was made up!" The pink one said.
Jacob didn't bother giving her angry eyes. "Wow, so creative. You know something... who cares. No, wait... who asked? I don't care about cutie marks, my brother made it clear to me that it isn't want you're a natural at, but your experiences that tell you what you're good at. I lived through combat and so, I got good at combat. Even if I have no cutie mark, I still have skills. What about you? What skills do you possess? What trials and challenges have you faced?" Jacob asked the filly who just stared, slack-jawed.
"Well, maybe your brother was just trying to make you feel better about not having it," the grey filly said, trying to defend the pink one but Jacob knew better.
"And clearly you both have better figures of authority if you're doing this crap? Just seriously, I'm terrible at noticing bs but even I can see through the falsified confidence! One of you has bad parents and took it out on the other so you could make yourself feel better about your shitty parent life!" Jacob stated, watching as the pink one started releasing a tear. The CMC were watching at Jacob told the pink filly off. "I was right. You wnna know something? I don't hold it against you but you could have handled your own situation better. Taking it out in fillies and colts who don't have cutie marks is not how you make it better, instead you kill off any chance you have at making a friend. A real friend. I mean, look at the Cutie Mark Crusaders, they may not have cutie marks yet many different ponies love them. It isn't because of the cutie mark that people like you because all a cutie mark does is flaunt what you're naturally good at. It's because of who you are as a person. As you know, I'm Jacob. What's your name?" Jacob held a hoof out in a comforting gesture.
The pink filly had no idea how to repond she looked... confused. She eventually reached out and took Jacob's hoof in her own. "I'm... Diamond Tiara. I... thank you for the words but... I still don't believe you fought and beat Bad Guy considering we heard that he somehow managed to create magical crystals that allow you to teleport to others you've visited," Diamond Tiara said.
"Oh? He's the one who put the warp crystals up? I... didn't think he had that in him. They aren't hard to create, I'm surprised this town doesn't know what they are or have ways of acquiring them, back home there was one at every major location which made backtracking easy as hell," Jacob commented as he pulled out a few green crystals from his pocket pack, "These here are similiar to the warp crystals except the fact that they heal the one interacting with it and all those nearby, even works for magical exhaustion, me and my friends got used to having these around to create a healing crystal whenever necessary due to how spread out they were," he added as both Diamond Tiara and her friend, Silver Spoon he heard her be called, observed the crystals.
"How do they work?" Silver Spoon asked as Jacob got a good hold on a healing crystal, placed it on the ground and held a hoof out as a blue colored energy left it and surrounded the crystal which eventually grew in size and started spinning in place. He touched it and simply had a green glow attached to him for a moment before it faded.
The rest of the school day went as planned and when it ended, Jacob, Diamond Tiara, and Silver Spoon all greed to go visit Diamond's parents so Jacob can give them a taste of his mind.
When the group got close, Jacob felt an odd presence... the same sort of godly presence that the Ultimate Trimmer had. When the front door to Diamond Tiara's house opened, Jacob got his weaponized controller ready and his hat on.
Inside was exactly what he expected. Someone got desperate and used the Mark of Insanity. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were confused by Jacob's gearing up. "Listen, if my theory is correct... then what we're dealing with is nothing this world has faced before. My world has many powerful relics but one of the worst to collect is called 'The Mark of Insanity' which, whole it does make you super powerful, slowly but surely makes the user more and more crazed and vile," Jacob explained and Diamond Tiara instantly looked knowing.
Diamond Tiara carefully guided Jacob and Silver Spoon around until they reached the secret basement, "Mom's probably down there, she said she found something yesterday and... well... she hadn't been the same... I mean, she never did admit she was proud of me but... she got worse," Diamond Tiara said as she opened it. Jacob jumped in, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon following after him.
As Jacob landed, he noticed the chests around the area. "Sweet! Loot!" He said as he went to open a chest. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon may not have had as graceful a landing but they recovered quickly looking around.
"This isn't how the basement looked before, everything's different," Diamond Tiara announced.
"Such is the world of pocket dimensions and dungeons," Jacob said pulling out a small book, "Ugh, damn taunting me with a recipe book without my crafting grid," he said as he put the book in his pocket pack.
The room the group found themselves in wasn't that big, probably five tiles by five tiles if Brendan's logic was anything to go by. There were two possible paths, left or right. "Hmm, let's go left for now and just make sure we go somewhere since I'm not pleased with the idea that monsters could be here," Jacob said as he started going down the left path, controller at the ready, with Diamond and Silver following him.
The next room showed Jacob the first enemies of the dungeon, sentient money. Jacob slammed the controller on the sentient money and killed it in a single shot with a smirk on his face, then he grabbed the ice button and pressed it, unleashing several icicles onto the last one. "Coast is clear now. Sentient money bags, never thought I'd see that," Jacob said as Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon poked their heads through the door way. Jacob picks up some bits dropped from the enemies, "And hey, killing enemies is a good source of money and experience," he added.
Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon stayed close together as they found a chest and opened it, "What the?! How long was this hayburger in this chest and why was it in there?!" Silver Spoon asked as Diamond Tiara shrugged.
"Kinda what I ask everytime I open a chest, how long and why? I stopped really questioning it after I found out my home was shoved into a pocket dimension and the chests became commonplace. To make things weirder, they restock with random items after certain points in times so... don't question it," Jacob said as he hung his controller over his neck like it was a boa. "Anyways, this is a dead end, need to go the other w- Diamond Tiara? What are you looking at?" Jacob asked as he noticed Diamond looking at a cracked part of the wall.
"Hey, do you have something that can get through cracked walls or destroy them?" Diamond asked as Jacob nodded before realizing what it was she saw. Jacob trotted up to the wall, found the cracks, got out a button, the explosive button, and then pressed it opening the wall open to farther exploration. Inside was a chest, the golden variety which are constant and never restock, which held a new accessory. "Can't believe this could have generated because of my mom, still..." Diamond sadly said.
"Crazy people do crazy things. Bad Guy got power hungry and summoned a long forgotten god to get his power so... your mother getting the Mark of Insanity and then creating this is... far from unexpected," Jacob said as they were going down the right path from the entrance which had more money bags, more chests filled with items and recipes, and at the end of it all...
"There she is. The Mark of Insanity and its victim," Jacob stated quietly.
"Is that Diamond's mom? Her face looks nearly unregconizable," Silver Spoon said in mild trepidation.
The duo watched as Diamond Tiara went forward. "Hey! Mother! I'm here to talk to you!" Diamond said as her mom slowly turned around. Silver Spoon rushed to Diamond Tiara's side with Jacob not far behind.
Diamond Tiara's mom slowly opened her mouth, "So... my own daughter fails expectations again? Hanging out with a... blank flank?" she said, her voice unnatural and distorted.
"Hey, might I tell you that no stupid mark needs to tell me shit, asshat. Experience will tell me what I'm good at and right now, it's lookin' like I'll have to drop kick you in self-defense," Jacob said, a smirk on his muzzle, "Or are you too scared to fight me?" He said as he gripped his controller, ready for a fight.
"So... you think you mean anything? So be it," Diamond Tiara's mom says as she screams aloud.
Jacob starts the battle off by pressing the fire button and thus shooting a fire ball at her then he uses his controller as a frail to hit her head. Spoiled Rich was having that so she grabbed the controller and tried to fling it out of Jacob's muzzle but he countered with a press of the ice button.
Spoiled Rich looked to be nearly down so Jacob decided finishing her right was smacking her with his controlled and afterwards she was out cold. Jacob found the Mark of Insanity, a small vial of a pure black substance, now half empty, and put it in his pocket pack. "Did you... win?" Diamond Tiara asked in shock.
"Yeah, your mother should be knocked out for a very long while but... that isn't the best. My controller isn't made for killing, just knocking out. My friends had better weapons made for outright killing. She'll need to either be taken to a purifier or just killed... I'm... sorry, Diamond Tiara," Jacob said but... Diamond Tiara had an idea.
The three were staring at Bad Guy as he looked over the unconscious body of Spoiled Rich. "Soo... let me get this straight... she consumed the Mark of Insanity and now, instead of trying to purify her, you want me to kill her? Am I hearing that right, Diamond Tiara?" Bad Guy asked as Diamond Tiara nodded, "Fine by me then," Bad Guy added as he shot an explosive blast right into Spoiled Rich. Destroying her body entirely.
