Equestria Girls (Nine Elements version): Book 1: Through the Mirror
Chapter 12: A Frame and a Flash
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe six girls looked at all the students wearing ears and tails.
“Well,” Rachael said. “We’ve convinced the vast majority. Though, there’s still a tiny issue.” She groaned. “Karen.”
“Karen?” Twilight asked.
The other four girls looked equally displeased.
“Her,” Roxy said grimly.
"What's wrong with her?" Twilight asked.
“She’s a bit of a…” Fauna said, trying to find the right words.
“Ornery bitch?” Ashleigh added.
“Yes, that,” Fauna nodded.
“What’s so bad about her?” Twilight asked.
“Get off the table, you foreign dipsh*t!” a grating valleygirl voice shouted.
“Karen?” Twilight asked on a hunch.
“Karen,” the other five girls confirmed flatly.
The owner of the voice was a white-skinned girl with blonde hair and purple eyes wearing a white tank top similar to Fauna’s, khaki shorts, white socks, and pink tennis shoes.*
“Don’t make me report you to Vice Principal Luna about this!” she snapped.
“Go ahead, Karen,” challenged a jock**. “We could use a laugh when she throws you out like a drunk gets thrown out of the bar again.”
“Excuse me?!” Karen gasped. “I am feeling so attacked right now! You are attacking me!”
“Is she always like that?” Twilight asked.
“She’s the only student more entitled than Susan,” Rachael said.
“Oh, dear,” Twilight said nervously.
“Luckily,” Roxy said. “There’s one way to convince her. Reminding her that the alternative is Susan Shoichet.”
“How am I going to do that?” Twilight asked.
“Watch and learn,” Pinkie said before facing Karen. “HEY!” she shouted. “YOUR OPTIONS ARE SUSAN SHOICHET OR TWILIGHT SPARKLE! MAKE YOUR CHOICE, BITCH!”
“What?!” Karen snapped. “Someone else is running against Susan Shoichet? Good God, it’s about time some pussy got the nerve!”
“Was she not listening?” Twilight asked, bewildered.
“Karen called the police over a cashier at a restaurant asking if they could take her order,” Roxy answered. “‘Nuff said.”
“She had only just come back to school today,” Rachael added. “As a minor, the harshest judicial punishment she can receive is a ten-day suspension.”
“Oh, my,” Twilight said. “Are there other people like her?”
“Too many ta count in this city alone,” Ashleigh answered. However, as the girls carried on, they noticed Susan walking down the hall from the opposite direction. She had a cocky look on her face as she looked back. “Ah don’t know what she’s smilin’ ‘bout, but, ah got a bad feelin’ ‘bout that.”
Susan then walked over to an office door and gave it a polite knock. Opening the door from the inside is a woman with long purplish-blue hair, light purple skin, a purple blouse with a white collar and a darker purple belt, dark blue slacks, and purple and white shoes.
“Make this quick, Miss Shoichet,” she said. “I’ve already received ten reports from Miss Karen Onn.***”
“What I have is much worse than Karen’s complaints, Vice Principal Luna,” Susan said, feigning innocence. She presented Vice Principal Luna with pictures of what appears to be Twilight destroying the decorations in the gym. The older woman looked at the pictures with clear skepticism. “I don’t understand why Twilight Sparkle would do such a horrible thing. After all of the hard work that Pinkie Pie put into making the gym look so amazing, Twilight did this truly awful thing with little regard.”
“I will look into this matter at once,” the older woman said. “I expect both you and her in my office.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Susan said, feigning sweetness.
Twilight could hear all that was happening and she nervously approached. The two girls were then seated before Vice Principal Luna’s desk. Twilight noticed a small plush dog of a familiar design. Vice Principal Luna spread out the photographs on her desk.
“Miss Sparkle,” the older woman asked calmly. “Do you have any explanation for these pictures?”
“I…” Twilight stammered. “I don’t understand. That looks like when I was playing soccer with Roxy Dodgers, but, I didn’t destroy the decorations.”
“And Miss Shoichet,” Luna continued. “You seem to have experienced a lapse in your intellect.”
Susan looked confused. “What do you mean? I’m only trying to do the right thing for our school.”
“Well,” Luna explained. “I find it rather suspicious that while you were supposedly present to take these photos, you made no attempts to stop what was happening after the measures you went through to ensure you became Princess of the Fall Formal.”****
Susan gulped uneasily. Sh*t, she thought to herself. I didn’t think of that.
As Vice Principal Luna spoke to the girls, there was another knock on the office door.
“Enter,” Vice Principal Luna said.
Entering was Flynn with photograph scraps in his hand.
“Sorry to disturb you, ma’am,” Flynn said. “But, I found these in the school library’s wastebasket and I thought I should bring this to your attention.” He presented the pictures and they were the background shots from when Twilight was playing soccer. Twilight’s pictures were cut out and had been taped onto the pictures of destruction happening in the gym’s decorations. Vice Principal Luna aligned them with the likeness of Twilight in the photos Susan gave her and found they were a perfect match.
“Thank you for your efforts, Flynn,” Vice Principal Luna smiled. “Susan Shoichet, for your efforts to frame Twilight, you are no longer eligible to run for the Princess of the Fall Formal and must serve detention for the remainder of the school day.”*****
“WHAT?!” Susan exclaimed.
“Would you prefer that I bar you from the dance entirely?” The vice principal asked sternly. Susan knew that if that were to happen, her plan would be ruined beyond salvation and reluctantly subsided. “That is as I thought. Unfortunately, due to all of the damage that has been done, the Fall Formal must be postponed until tomorrow night.”
That wasn’t a statement that Twilight wished to hear.
“Oh, no!” Twilight gasped. She then ran out of Vice Principal Luna’s office, taking Spike with her. “By then, it’ll be too late!”
“Twilight!” Flynn called. But, Twilight was so distraught and too far out of earshot that she didn't hear Flynn’s voice.
