Sunlight Sweethearts
Popping the Question
Previous ChapterCanterlot High School: Courtyard
In recent years the school had gained a larger budget thanks to various charities and collaboration with Crystal prep, as such the once broken and worn down Equine statue that housed the portal to Equestria had been rebuilt and fortified to allow it to stand the test of time. The horse on top of the statue had been replaced with a new alicorn statue and Sunset had been tasked to be its keeper alongside her future job as a counselor here at the school. As the marble portal lit up and rippled like water, Sunset Shimmer came out a little fast but still managed to stick the landing, shaking out her hair and fixing her jacket, she smiled as she stretched her arms above her head and looked to the sky.
"Home just in time."
It was dusk, the sun was beginning to set over the horizon but still shined bright enough to where it could still be considered the afternoon. Checking her cellphone she saw she had a few messages from her friends wondering when she would be back so they could all hang out, she hadn't given them an exact day since time between the two worlds tended to be a little weird but with a quick text to the Rainboom group chat she could let them know she was back and that is exactly what she did.
'Hey girls, I'm back! Miss me?'
'Yay! Sunny is back!'
'Finally, good to have ya back Shims'
'Welcome home darling! I do hope your trip was productive.'
'Smolder has really missed you, she's been a good girl while you were away.'
'Welcome back sugarcube! Now that sunny is back we can all meet up!'
'You there Sparky?'
'She's waiting for you at the school darling ;D'
'Oh is she now?'
Sunset would read through the texts and see that Twilight had in fact sent her a personal message telling her that she'd be waiting under the golden oak tree at the back of the school waiting for her. Sunset's heart fluttered and she smiled, the golden oak tree was a popular meeting spot for couples at the school, it was where she officially confessed to Twilight that she liked her and wanted to be her girlfriend. Fitting that it would be the place that she asked her to marry her right? Sunset would nod to herself and would remember Princess Celestia's advice.
'Just say and do what you feel is natural. Theres no need to rehearse what your heart and soul wish to tell the one you love most.'
With that in mind, Sunset would reach into her backpack and pulled out the box that held the ring and placed it in her jacket pocket, exhaling a deep breath after taking a brief moment to look out into the sunset which she got her namesake from and she placed a hand over her heart as she smiled and turned to go find her future wife.
"Time to go and get my fairytale ending."
With greater access to her magic, Sunset essentially had her full range of abilities available to her now as her pony'ed up form gave her access to her horn which instead took the form of a red gem that would materialize in the center of her forehead, this would also happen for Rarity, Starlight and Twilight. Using her magic to teleport to where she knew the golden oak tree was at the back of the school near the soccer field, she soon spotted Twilight nose deep in a book. She'd pop over to her side and hugged her without warning and then smooched her on the cheek, delighted in the girlish giggle Twilight made in response.
"Mmmahw, heya dorky. Miss me?" Sunset asked as she planted another smooch on her girlfriends cheek.
"Hehehe always Sunny. Did you have fun in Equestria? How did teaching feel?" Twilight asked with a giggle and smile as she felt Sunset's embrace and leaned into her, the book she was reading still open.
"It was great, it felt good passing on my knowledge to others. Gotta make sure the flames of friendship burn brightly right?"
"I'm glad you had a good time, it'll be good practice for when you actually become a teacher and counselor here! I'm so happy for you." Twilight replied sweetly as she cuddled close to her girlfriend.
"Yeah, life is really good right now isn't it? For us both and our friends and family." Sunset said with a calming sigh as she cuddled next to Twilight under the old tree.
"Yeah, life is pretty sweet right now isn't it?" Twilight replied contently.
"Though, I think I could do with it getting even sweeter."
"Hm? What do you mean?" Twilight asked curiously.
"Hehe stand up and look to the sky and tell me what you see Twilight." Sunset asked, staying in her seated position for the moment.
Twilight would look at her curiously but decided to play along, standing up from where she was sitting, bookmarking her page in the book she was reading and she looked to the sky and she could see the setting sun turning the sky into a beautiful aurora of colors. She smiled happily, adoring this time of day, it reminded her of the woman she loved the most and everything they'd been through together.
"I see the sunset. A beautiful one."
"Now look at me and tell me what you see." Sunset said, now in a kneeling position, bent down on one knee and holding the purple box in her hand as Twilight's focus remained on the sky but she couldn't have been happier with her reaction upon seeing her look down at her.
Twilight would look down at Sunset and gasped, dropping her book to the grass as she covered her mouth with both hands. Unable to find the words for what she was experiencing. Surprise, excitement and even a slight bit of disbelief as she was wondering to herself if this was actually real. Tears welled in her eyes behind her glasses as she watched Sunset pop open the box and reveal a ring that was a match for the geode of magic she wore around her neck. Another gasp escaped her and she was on the verge of breaking down as she felt weak in the knees and her heart was hammering in her chest ready to explode.
"I-I see MY Sunset. T-the most beautiful Sunset in the whole world." Twilight choked out, her tears falling rapidly.
Sunset for her part smiled at Twilight, tears in her eyes as well hearing her say that to her. She let them fall freely, unafraid to cry in front of Twilight, they'd cried in each others arms more than once and every single time there bond grew deeper and stronger. Swallowing the lump in her throat, Sunset would find the power to speak through a cracking hoarse voice.
"Then Twilight Sparkle, will...you marry me?"
"YES! YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!" Twilight shouted and took Sunset's hands in her own and hopped up and down gleefully, Sunset tightly taking Twilight's hand and standing up, leaping and jumping with her and finally hugging her close and sharing a deep and passionate love filled kiss. Shortly after, they broke apart, looking lovingly into each others eyes as Sunset placed the ring on Twilight's finger and they interlaced their fingers together.
"I hope you are ready to be the new Mrs. Sparkle."
"Till death do us part, Mrs. Shimmer." Twilight smiled through teary eyes and nuzzled her close and cried happily in her arms. Sunset holding her close, rocking her back and forth as they stood underneath the golden oak tree. After a few minutes, Twilight regained her composure and sniffled and giggled, overjoyed with what was happening.
"I think we should tell the girls the good news."
"Agreed."
Sunset pulled out her phone and took a picture of herself and Twilight together with Twilight showing off her new wedding ring. The replies were full of happy emoji and cheers for them with Rainbow and Applejack both replying
'ABOUT DAMN TIME!'
