Nightmare at Canterlot High (Halloween Special)

Previous Chapter

At Canterlot High, Halloween preparations were in full swing. The gymnasium buzzed with excitement as students transformed it into a spooky wonderland. Fake cobwebs hung from the rafters, orange and black streamers draped every corner, and a few fog machines added an eerie mist to the atmosphere.

Rainbow Dash could barely contain her excitement. “I can’t wait for the games!” she said, punching the air as if she were already competing. Sunset Shimmer and the Dazzlings huddled together near the stage, eagerly discussing their playlist for the night.

“The music has to be perfect,” Sunset said, adjusting the microphone. “We’re bringing the chills and the beats!”

Rarity and Applejack were hard at work with the costumes, organizing outfits and admiring their fellow students’ spooky attire. Rarity clapped her hands in delight, spotting a vampire cape. “Applejack, darling, look at all these unique looks! Tonight’s going to be absolutely fabulous!”

Meanwhile, the CMCs, ever the enthusiastic trio, were setting up for the Halloween talent show. Scootaloo adjusted the lights while Apple Bloom arranged props on stage. Sweetie Belle gave Fluttershy a reassuring pat on the shoulder, noticing her uneasy expression.

“Don’t worry, Fluttershy,” she said with a warm smile. “Halloween’s about having fun. You’re braver than you think!”

Fluttershy took a deep breath, nodding. “I know… it’s just… some of the decorations are so realistic,” she said, glancing nervously at a hanging skeleton. “But I’ll be fine.”

As the last decorations went up, someone noticed the absence of one crucial element to any Canterlot High party: Pinkie Pie. “Where’s Pinkie?” Rainbow Dash asked, looking around. It wasn’t like her to miss the excitement, especially when there was a party involved.

Meanwhile, at the Pie family home, Pinkie Pie was hard at work with her own Halloween plans. “This year,” she muttered to herself, “I’m going to set the record for the most frights in one night!” A mischievous grin spread across her face as she imagined each prank in detail.

She began with her plan for Fluttershy: a terrifying demon beast prank, complete with a life-size cutout and a hidden speaker playing spooky growls. “Fluttershy’s gonna get such a thrill!” she giggled.

For Rarity, she plotted an odorous zombie prank, intending to leave a putrid scent hanging in the air wherever she went. “Nothing too strong,” she assured herself, “just enough to keep Rarity gasping!”

Applejack, she decided, would get a trick involving rotten food. A bucket filled with spoiled apples and wilting hay would be the perfect surprise. “She won’t see it coming!”

As for Rainbow Dash, Pinkie chuckled as she thought up a fake “broken” trampoline. The second Rainbow put her foot on it, it would wobble, causing her to tumble. “She’ll be embarrassed and laughing so hard!”

She thought about Sci-Twi and Spike next, devising a cake filled with salt instead of sugar. “Sweet surprise,” she giggled.

And for Sunset? Pinkie imagined a setup where Sunset’s special effects went haywire, triggering at random moments. That would surely give the Crusaders a fright as they prepared for their talent show.

But then, the ultimate idea struck her. “Why not combine all these pranks into one massive, mega-hilarious Halloween scare fest?” she said, rubbing her hands together. “They won’t know what hit them!”

As Pinkie laughed maniacally, she grabbed her prank supplies and headed toward Canterlot High, ready to turn the Halloween party into a night no one would ever forget. Little did her friends know, the ultimate scare was on its way.

Pinkie Pie arrived at Canterlot High, her arms loaded with prank supplies and a heap of mischief. Today was her big night—the night she would surprise her friends with the zaniest pranks in the school’s history. But as she stepped inside, she noticed something strange: the whole school was quiet. Unusually quiet. There wasn’t a single person in sight. Even the usual hum of lockers slamming, shoes squeaking, and chatter echoing down the hallways was absent.

“Huh, must be Hide-and-Seek Day!” Pinkie giggled to herself. “Good thing I’m amazing at finding people!” She skipped down the hall, her eyes darting around every corner, under every bench, and behind every door. But after a few minutes of searching, her skip slowed to a shuffle. Not a single soul was anywhere to be found, and her heart began to pound in her chest.

Trying to shake off the weird feeling, Pinkie made her way toward the gym, thinking it’d be the perfect place for her friends to hide out. As she opened the doors, her eyes widened in surprise. The entire gym was decorated with banners, streamers, balloons, and a massive sign that read: “SURPRISE!” Pinkie squealed with delight.

“A party! For me! You shouldn’t have!” She spun around, laughing gleefully. But her laughter was cut short when she heard a faint sound from the far corner of the gym, a low, eerie whisper.

Pinkie’s giggles turned into nervous chuckles. “Oh, are you hiding over there?” she called out, edging closer to the shadowy corner. But as she drew near, a ghostly figure suddenly popped out, its hollow eyes staring straight at her, shrieking, “Boo!”

Pinkie screamed and took off, her feet moving faster than her thoughts. She bolted down the hall, her mind racing. She tried the main entrance, hoping to burst outside and end this spooky game, but the door wouldn’t budge. She yanked on it a few times, her breaths coming fast.

“Oh, no… it’s like a… poltergeist!” she whispered to herself.

Before she could think about it further, she saw something moving toward her. She froze as a figure stumbled forward with a blank, unblinking gaze—zombie-like, with arms outstretched. Pinkie yelped and backed away, only to bump into a strange figure behind her. She spun around and found a witch, cackling and holding out a handful of candy corn. Relieved, Pinkie grabbed a piece and popped it into her mouth.

“Thanks!” she said, smiling weakly—until her smile turned to a grimace as she tasted something… slimy.

“Ewww!” she shrieked, spitting out the gooey mess. “What kind of prank is this?”

She tried to run, but in her haste, she didn’t notice the slippery puddle of frosting beneath her feet. She slipped, arms flailing, and landed on her back with a splat.

“Oof!” she groaned, feeling her fingers coated in frosting. As she tried to push herself up, a thick, swirling fog started to gather around her. She blinked, trying to make sense of the mist, but it grew denser, wrapping around her like a blanket until she couldn’t see a thing. A strange feeling of weightlessness overcame her, and when the fog finally cleared, she found herself somewhere entirely different.

Gone were the familiar school hallways. Instead, she stood in a dark, empty corridor, with nothing but a dim light flickering at the far end. Her heart pounded, her hands trembling as she hugged herself, unsure whether to laugh or scream.

“Hello? Anyone?” she called, her voice echoing down the empty hall. Silence answered her.

Taking a shaky breath, Pinkie squared her shoulders. “Alright, if this is a prank, you got me good! But if it’s not…” She gulped. “...then I guess I’ll have to find my own way out of here!”

With that, she took a cautious step forward, into the unknown.

With that, she took a cautious step forward, into the unknown.

Suddenly, all the lights blazed on, and Pinkie saw that she’s in the school science lab as crowd of costumed students and faculty sprang out from every corner, shouting, "Surprise!"

Pinkie’s jaw dropped. Her friends and classmates were all there, decked out in Halloween costumes, with grins and giggles as they waved to her. Pinkie blinked as she took in the sight: Applejack, standing tall in a crooked witch's hat and a dark, flowing cloak; Rarity, looking rather ghastly as a glamorous zombie with just the right amount of tattered flair; and Fluttershy, hovering in a translucent ghost costume that made her almost look like she was floating.

A low fog swirled around them, adding to the spooky atmosphere. Sci-Twi and Spike, working as a team, released more fog from hidden machines, while Rainbow Dash around fast in her vampire costume with a hint of her signature athletic edge.

“Surprised, Pinkie?” Rainbow teased.

“Y-You all did this… for me?” Pinkie gasped, looking around in awe. She noticed several teachers grinning knowingly and Principal Celestia stepped forward with a laugh.

“Oh yes, Pinkie,” she said. “Every year, you pull the same pranks on us, so we thought it was high time we got back at you.”

Applejack placed a friendly arm around Pinkie’s shoulder. “Yep, sugarcube. We wanted to surprise you for once! Figured it’d be a nice change.”

Rarity nodded, placing a dramatic hand to her zombie makeup. “And darling, I must say, revenge never looked this fabulous.”

Seeing her friends and classmates’ efforts, Pinkie’s heart softened. “Aww, I didn’t realize my pranks were getting a bit... repetitive,” she admitted with a bashful grin. “I’m really sorry if I got carried away!”

Everyone shared a warm laugh, and Principal Celestia patted Pinkie’s shoulder. “Apology accepted, Pinkie. Now, let’s get this party started!”

With that, the celebration was on! Music filled the gymnasium, and everyone scattered to enjoy the festivities. The Crusaders and Trixie took to the stage for a spirited talent show performance, earning applause from the crowd. Nearby, Rainbow and Applejack were in fierce competition, trying out various games, each one trying to best the other. Rarity admired the creative costumes her friends and classmates wore, nodding approvingly at every impressive outfit that passed her by.

Sci-Twi and Sunset found a quieter spot to chat, sharing memories of their past and exchanging stories of how far they’d come.

And then, Pinkie bounced up to the center of the gym and cleared her throat, drawing everyone’s attention. “Attention, everyone! I am about to attempt the most epic trampoline jump Canterlot High has ever seen!” she declared with a dramatic flair.

A round of cheers erupted, and Pinkie leapt onto a trampoline set up in the gym, bouncing higher and higher, until… snap! The trampoline collapsed under her with a comedic thud. Everyone gasped, but Pinkie sprang back up, completely unscathed, her laughter echoing through the gym.

“Oh, that was priceless!” she giggled. “I guess I’m not the only one who’s had a prank backfire tonight!”

The crowd roared with laughter, and the party continued late into the night, filled with games, music, and laughter. The Canterlot High Halloween party was one Pinkie would never forget—and this time, she’d been the one caught off guard in the best way possible.
