A Dragon's High School Years
Chapter 10: Adventures in Sparky-sitting
Previous ChapterNext ChapterChapter 10: Adventures in Sparky-sitting
It is now 2024. Three months had passed since the first game and the Summer Valley High School Dragons had finished up their last game. The Jr Varsity Basketball Team had won their half of the State Championships. Now, things are about to cool down for Basketball Season as they move onto Spring. Which means, it's almost Spring Break.
In Health Class, Miss Reynolds was teaching the class their last lesson before Spring Break would begin. She announced, "Alright, class, now before you all leave for Spring Break, I need you all to come back here."
"And why is that?" Smolder asked. Both her and Aaron were in Dragon Form.
"Because, Miss Drake, it is time you all do one of the most important assignments in Health Class," Miss Reynolds said before taking out a toy baby doll. "The baby-care assignment."
"What?!" Smolder asked. "We're taking care of... baby dolls? You have got to be kidding."
"Sorry, but it's the best we can work with," Miss Reynolds said. "Now, you come back here after the final bell of school rings, and I will give you your baby dolls. Now, since you and Mr. Blazer live under the same roof, you two will be paired up."
"Yeah, that's right," Paul said. "Go, Smolder." Then the class bell rang, signalling that class was over.
"Class dismissed," Miss Reynolds said. Then everyone got up and headed out of the classroom.
"This is gonna be one interesting Spring Break," Aaron said.
"I'm okay with an assignment where I'd have to take care of a baby, but I'd be more okay if it were a real one," Smolder said. "Perhaps there's a way for us to skip this..."
"Nope," Aaron said. "This is gonna cost us a third of our grade. We need to do this assignment."
"Oh, crap," Smolder said.
After every student left Health Class, Miss Reynolds grabbed her stuff and left the classroom as well. But after turning off the lights and closing the door, something happened. A portal opened up from the back of the classroom. Then running out of it was a certain dragon hatchling. He was giggling and he looked around. He could smell Aaron and Smolder's pheromones, but he couldn't see them in sight.
Sparky looked around, a little scared. He then saw on the teacher's desk the baby doll she brought out. Sparky went over to the desk and checked it out. Sparky was confused about it. He then blew his fire onto it, and the baby doll became a bird which started flying off towards an open window. Sparky then looked around, worried about being on his own, not knowing where he was.
After Spanish Class, Aaron and Smolder were coming out of their last class before Spring Break, both of them in human form. They headed back towards Health Class.
"Boy, that was one tough test," Smolder said. "I hope I did alright."
"You've been doing fine for the past few months," Aaron said. "I think you did alright." Then the rest of their classmates in Health Class arrived just outside of the classroom they were going to. They went in line and waited for Miss Reynolds to come, which she did.
"Alright, class," Miss Reynolds said. "Come on in, and you will be paired together and get your dolls to take care of." She opened the door, and she stopped, looking into the classroom surprised. All the desks were gone, and there were balloons all over the place. "Wait, what?"
Aaron and Smolder went in and saw all the balloons. Smolder then asked, "What happened here?"
Aaron then looked around and said, "Wait a minute." Aaron then changed into his dragon form. Smolder nodded and went into her dragon form as well. Aaron and Smolder then looked around. Just then, they heard a voice coming from behind the teacher's desk and they looked towards the desk.
"What was that?" Smolder asked.
Then coming from behind the desk, there was Sparky. He saw the two older dragons, smiled and ran towards them, giggling all the way.
"Sparky?" Aaron asked. Sparky then jumped up into Smolder's arms unexpectedly and snuggled into her chest.
"Okay, this is unexpected," Smolder said.
"You said it," Aaron said.
"Where are all the desks?" Paul asked. Aaron and Smolder then went deadpanned and they both looked down at the dragon hatchling.
"Sparky," Aaron said, sternly. "You mind..." He then pointed at the balloons. Sparky nodded sadly and then he blew his dragon fire at one of the balloons and it changed back into a desk. It fell, but Aaron caught the desk with his hands. "Okay. Next time, I'll bring the balloon down and then you change it back to what it was." Sparky nodded. Aaron then brought down the rest of the balloons and they got changed back into desks by Sparky's dragon fire.
"Okay, that was... unexpected," Miss Reynolds said. "How is that little dragon here, and how did he do that?"
"Dragon fire has evolved in the future," Smolder said. "We went there last summer, and even we evolved."
"That would explain the Cutie Marks," Megan said.
"Alright, class," Miss Reynolds said. "Let's get you those dolls." She then walked over to a trunk in the room and brought out the dolls for the students. Aaron and Smolder held onto Sparky as he snuggled into them. They waited until all the other students got their dolls. When the second to last pair of students got their doll, Miss Reynolds went wide eyed. "Um... one's missing."
"What?" Aaron asked.
"That's odd," Miss Reynolds said. "I swear I made sure I had enough dolls for every pair of two in my class." She then looked towards the three dragons. "Did that dragon change the last doll?"
"He must have," Aaron said. "Sparky's just a baby."
"Yeah, don't be hard on him," Smolder said. "He didn't know any better."
Miss Reynolds groaned, but then Kyle came up to her, saying, "Hold it, Miss Reynolds. What if that baby dragon can be Aaron and Smolder's assignment. That way, they'll be able to take care of him and do the task."
Aaron and Smolder then thought about it. Aaron then said, "Well, he does need someone to look after him when he's here." Smolder nodded in agreement.
"Alright," Miss Reynolds said. "But I'm gonna need pictures of the whole thing while you're taking care of him. You understand, you two?" She looked at the dragons in the room.
"Meh, not like we have much choice," Smolder said. "Besides, we haven't done it yet, but Sparky is our biological son."
"Wait, what?" Paul, Kyle and Megan asked.
"How do you know that?" Miss Reynolds asked.
"The dragon hatchlings know which dragons are their parents because they could remember the scent of their pheromones," Smolder said. "If they don't have their parents three years after they're hatched, they forget the scent of their pheromones."
"And there was a family tree scanner in the future, and our faces were in this dragon's parents's sections," Aaron said. "Unexpected for both of us."
"Alright," Miss Reynolds said. "Time travel. I can't believe that's a thing."
"In Equestria it is," Aaron said. "C'mon, Smolder, let's go home." Then the three dragons left the classroom. They walked down the hall of the school and headed for the pickup area. Aaron then sarcastically said, "That was fun explaining that to the class."
"If you thought that was surprising to them, how do you think you're aunt's gonna act when she hears it?" Smolder asked. Aaron then went pale after that.
"Oh, boy," Aaron said.
Back at home, Marissa was wide eyed after hearing about Sparky being Aaron and Smolder's son. Liam was in the kitchen, pulling a tri-tip out of the oven.
"Are you serious?" Marissa asked. "Sparky, the baby dragon from G5 My Little Pony, is your son?"
"We were surprised about it when we found out," Smolder said.
"I told Gallus about this so he could tell Twilight about this, but apparently, she's on a Zeppelin Cruise with her family, again," Aaron said. "This time, it's fully legal because it wasn't a promotional cruise."
"Well, that's a bummer," Liam said. "Hopefully, the rest of the friends can get Starlight Glimmer to help."
"Not really," came Gallus's voice. They all looked towards the voice and they saw the rest of the Young 6 coming in from Smolder's part of the house. "Starlight and Sunburst are out of town, too. Trixie is doing a week-long magic tour and she asked the two to join her. This time, they'll be staying in hotels while Trixie is sleeping in the cart."
"Meh, that's okay," Smolder said. "Besides, Sparky is our assignment to take care of during Spring Break. The rest of Health Class has to take care of a fake baby in order to understand what it's like to be parents. Sparky accidentally did something to our fake baby and... well..."
"Well, at least you'll have a more understanding experience," Ocellus said, making the others nod in agreement.
"So, how was Nyx doing?" Aaron asked, looking at Gallus.
"Oh, she's doing fine," Gallus said. "A lot of ponies feared her at first, but then they got taken in by her cuteness since she was a baby."
"Who wouldn't?" Silverstream asked. "Babies are adorable!" She then went over to Smolder, who was holding Sparky, and pinched Sparky's cheek. "Like this little guy." Sparky giggled at that.
"Well, I assumed you all would come since it's Spring Break," Liam said, bringing out some packs of salad. "Who's hungry?"
"Oh, I am starving," Gallus said. "I flew straight to the School of Friendship as fast as I could. I really need a bite." Then they all went over to the table. Aaron and Gallus extended the table so more people could sit in. Silverstream, Ocellus, Yona and Sandbar pushed in more chairs so they could sit at the table. Aaron then brought out the extra piece of the table for more table space.
"Alright, then come and get yourselves a plate and we'll dig in," Liam said. Then they all headed for the kitchen to get plates for dinner.
The next day, Aaron, the Young 6 and Sparky were at Universal Studios together. Sparky was on a leash for toddlers so he wouldn't get away from the group.
"Hold it, Sparky!" Smolder said, pulling on the leash. "Stay with us!" Sparky was trying to run away from the group to look at the amazing things Universal Studios has.
"I haven't seen him this excited since he went through the portal to the Dragon Lands," Aaron said.
"Um, why is everyone staring?" Ocellus asked.
"Because we're all characters from a TV show in this world, and we're out in public in our true forms," Smolder said.
"That makes sense," Ocellus said. Just then, a bunch of kids surrounded the group and got pictures of them. Sparky was getting worried and he ran over to Smolder and jumped into her arms.
"It's okay, Sparky," Smolder said. "They're just fans."
"I can't believe we're doing this," Gallus said.
"Why? This is exciting!" Silverstream said. Then one teenage girl and her little sister came up to her.
"Hi, mind if my sister gets a picture with you?" the teenage girl asked.
"Sure!" Silverstream said. Then the little girl got on Silverstream's back. The teenage girl then took a picture of the two. Then the little girl got off of Silverstream's back and she and her sister went back to their parents.
"Yona not sure how Yona feels about this," Yona said.
"Well, we should get going," Aaron said. "We have to meet Aunt Marissa at Mel's Drive-In."
"Let's get out of here," Smolder said, trying to walk through the group. Then one girl walked up to her.
"Is that Sparky from G5?" the girl asked.
"Yeah," Smolder responded.
"Why is he with you?" the girl asked again.
"That's private," Smolder said. They then headed away from there and went towards a part of the park.
Back at home, Smolder and Sparky were in the shallow end of the pool with Sparky in a small life preserver holding him up. The rest of the Young 6 and Aaron were on the other side of the pool. Yona wasn't in the pool because she still couldn't swim.
"Still not wanting to try and swim, huh, Yona?" Aaron asked.
"Yona still not wanting to get in," Yona said.
"Don't worry, Yona," Ocellus said. "We got your back. We can keep your head up out of the water."
"It would be better if this water isn't full of chlorine," Silverstream said.
"Oh, you don't have to worry about that anymore, Silverstream," Smolder said. "We changed out the water. So now, it's all salt water."
"Really?!" Silverstream asked. She then tapped on her seashell necklace and she transformed into a Seapony. She then splashed around in excitement. Even Sparky was enjoying it.
"Yeah, you like that, don't you?" Smolder asked. "Don't you?"
"So, how come we went to Universal Studios in our real forms instead of as humans?" Sandbar asked.
"Yeah, why was that?" Ocellus asked.
"We were originally going to put one of those medallions on Sparky so he would pass as a human," Aaron said. "But..."
"It didn't go as we expected," Smolder said.
"Why didn't it?" Gallus asked.
"Because since Sparky is half human, the medallion's magic didn't work on him," Aaron said.
"Aw, that makes sense," Gallus said. Just then, the sound of a car horn came in.
"Oh, Marissa's home," Smolder said. "C'mon, little guy." Sparky giggled as he was picked up by Smolder and taken into the house.
It was Friday Night of Spring Break. Smolder was feeding Sparky some spaghetti. Sparky was enjoying it. He got some sauce on his cheeks and then Smolder cleaned it up.
"That's it, Sparky," Smolder said. "Gotta be clean."
"So, how long do you think it'll take for Twilight to come back?" Sandbar asked.
"Sooner than you think," came Twilight's voice. Aaron, the Young 6, Sparky, Marissa and Liam looked towards the voice and they saw Twilight at the front door. "Sorry for keeping you all waiting. That cruise was longer than I thought."
"That's okay, Twilight," Aaron said. Twilight walked over to Sparky and he giggled at the sight of her.
"Looks like Sparky's been enjoying his time here," Twilight said. "Even though he traveled through time and space."
"Let's get him back to his family," Smolder said, cleaning Sparky up. "We basically did everything on Sparky that people usually do on babies. He's been fed, bathed, napped, and we had a hard time trying to change his diapers."
"Why?" Twilight asked. "Does he poop a lot?"
"Worse," Aaron said. "Sparky's fire doesn't just come out of one end." Twilight and the Young 6 laughed at that. "I'm serious. He literally farts fire."
"Spike didn't have that problem when I was taking care of him," Twilight said. "So, let's get this little guy home." Aaron then took Sparky out of Smolder's arms. Twilight then opened a portal to the future Equestria in Maretime Bay. More specifically, in the Brighthouse. Smolder also handed Aaron a flash-drive of Sparky during his time on Earth.
Back in the future, the G5 Mane 6 were in the Crystal Brighthouse. Hitch was upset about Sparky being separated from him, and the girls were comforting him.
"We'll never find my little buddy!" Hitch said.
"Hitch, it's okay," Sunny said. "Hopefully, Sparky will find his way back."
"How?" Hitch asked. "It's not like..." Just then, a portal opened up in front of the front door, which the G5 Mane 6 noticed. Coming through the portal was Aaron and Sparky. Aaron changed to how he'd look in G5.
"Anyone lose a dragon hatchling?" Aaron asked.
"Sparky!" Hitch shouted. He then ran towards Aaron. Sparky saw Hitch with excitement. He jumped out of Aaron's arms and ran towards Hitch. The two reached each other with Sparky jumping into Hitch's forelegs and he nuzzled into Hitch's chest. "Oh, don't you run off like that again."
Sparky felt bad for what he did to Hitch. He then said, "S-Sorry... Dada." That made Hitch gasp.
"Did Sparky just...?" Sunny asked.
"Talk in sentences?" Aaron asked. "Yeah, we've been doing that in our time. Of course, it's been a week in our time."
"A week?" Zipp asked. "Huh. Guess the Nova Charm shards do a lot more than send creatures through space."
"Please tell me you have pictures," Pipp said. Aaron then brought out the flash-drive Smolder brought him. Pipp then inspected it. "I don't think this one's compatible with our tech." Sparky then released a small burst of fire and it hit the flash-drive, and then it changed into one that was compatible with their computers. "Oh. Thanks, Sparky." She then brought out her phone and plugged the flash-drive into it. She then saw all the pictures of Sparky in the flash-drive. "Aw, so cute."
"Wow," Hitch said. "Something tells me you and Smolder are gonna make good parents."
"Of course that's when we're old enough to have kids," Aaron said. He then looked towards Sparky. "Next time, how about when your mom and I are actually grown ups?" Sparky nodded.
"Looks like little Sparky's growing up," came Alphabittle's voice. The group looked at the portal and they saw Alphabittle walking around it. "Guess he had time with his parents before they were adults again."
"Hey, Alphabittle," Aaron said.
"Good to see you again, Aaron," Alphabittle said. "So, you kept an eye on Sparky, huh? Good call. You'd make a good father."
"That will have to wait for my Health Teacher to judge," Aaron said. He then saw Misty in the kitchen, making a sandwich. He then asked, "Say, Alphabittle? One thing crossed my mind after going back to my time. Why in the world is mayonnaise bad luck?"
"Huh," Alphabittle said. "I never thought about it before. Perhaps it has something to do with mayonnaise being rotten at a certain point of time and it made everypony sick."
"That's not true," Hitch said.
"Maybe it's an Earth Pony thing," Alphabittle said. "Unicorns do not do anything with mayonnaise anymore."
"Then you probably should've told Misty about that," Aaron said, looking at Alphabittle, tilting his head towards the kitchen. Alphabittle looked towards the kitchen and he saw Misty spreading mayonnaise on a piece of bread.
"Misty!" Alphabittle said. "NOOOOOO!!"
Misty shouted in response, making everything she had in her hooves fly up. Misty then used her magic to catch everything. Misty then sighed.
"Daaad..." Misty whined. "I was just making a snack."
"With mayonnaise, Misty," Alphabittle said. "Mayonnaise is jinxie."
"Really?" Misty asked. "I've been having it a lot ever since I've been with Opaline. Mayonnaise is a good condiment."
"But it's rotten," Alphabittle said. "How could you like it?"
"It wasn't so bad," Misty said. "After all, the coolness of the refrigerator keeps it good for a while."
"Wait... it's supposed to be put in the fridge?" Alphabittle asked.
"After opening of course," Misty said.
Aaron leaned his head back and laughed. He then said, "Well, I gotta go. See you guys again someday." Aaron then headed through the portal and back home.
The following Tuesday, Aaron and Smolder headed for Health Class. Miss Reynolds was looking at a photo album of the two dragons taking care of Sparky.
"Huh," Miss Reynolds said. "Wow. You two did well with taking care of that little dragon hatchling."
"And we got him back to his time," Smolder said. "We're gonna have to wait a while for us to be actual parents."
"Yeah," Aaron said. "Especially Sparky's."
"Well, since you two did so well this assignment, both of you get an A," Miss Reynolds said. Aaron and Smolder then fist bumped.
At a Golden Corral Buffet & Grill, Aaron, Smolder, Marissa and Liam were all having dinner there. Smolder was taking it easy with her food because she still had cheerleading. Marissa had a lot of food on her plate.
"Um, are you feeling okay, Marissa?" Smolder asked. "You have a lot of food on that plate."
"Oh, that's what I wanted to talk to you two about," Marissa said. "Liam and I have a surprise." She and Liam looked at each other, Liam being smug about it. "Aaron... I'm pregnant."
"No way," Aaron said. "You're..."
"That's awesome," Smolder said. "A new little face in the house."
"Well, we're gonna need a lot of help around the house," Marissa said.
"Meaning we're gonna have to pick up some new baby supplies," Liam said. "A crib, a baby changing station, diapers, baby blankets, even strollers and a car seat."
"I bet you can find a combination stroller and car seat online," Smolder said.
"Although, with the Blazer family history of having twins, we might have to wait until we find out how many babies you're gonna have, Aunt Marissa," Aaron said.
"Good point," Marissa said. "We'll start with the baby crib and the diaper changing station."
"We'll head out to Wal-Mart after dinner," Liam said.
"And, one more thing," Marissa said. "When summer starts, I want you two to get summer jobs."
"Summer jobs?" Smolder asked. "Seriously?"
"Well, you two are gonna turn sixteen next year," Marissa said. "You're gonna have to have experience with being grownups. Luckily, I got you two summer jobs at the Mel's Drive-In at Universal Studios."
"Really?" Aaron said. "Well, at least we'll have something to do over the summer."
"Oh, boy," Smolder said, annoyed. "Do we have to?"
"We can get you two a car next summer after you two get your Driver's Licenses," Marissa said.
"We get to drive?" Smolder asked. She then looked at Aaron with a smirk.
"No," Aaron said. "We are not street racing. It's illegal."
"Fine," Smolder said. "Although, it would be fun to drive."
"Let's get back to eating," Liam said. Then the four continued eating their food they had.
Author's Note
The G5 Mane 6 and Sparky will return... in A Dragon's New Family. But that won't be for a while.
Well, Marissa is pregnant. Hopefully, Aaron and Smolder would prepare for his new cousins in the house. Aaron might have to sleep with Smolder with the babies crying all night during certain times of the year. See you all next time.
