Forget the Scare, Go for a Date
Flurry Heart bounced excitedly on her seat in the train. Out in the distance, after some long hours of travel, she was finally able to see her destination.
“Next Stop! Canterlot!” Called a pony in uniform as he entered the car. “I repeat! Next stop, Canterlot! If this is your stop, please make sure you have all your belongings!” he said as he made his way down the hall towards the next train car.
Flurry quickly grabbed her bag from the compartment above her and got ready for when the train stopped. She looked around, seeing a lot of other ponies also getting ready to leave the train, not a single of them paying much attention to the youngest princess of the Crystal Empire.
‘The illusion spell works perfectly.’ Flurry thought with a smile. It was a spell that slightly altered how other ponies perceived her. To anypony looking at her, she would look just as an average pegasus, not as one of the princesses of Equestria. Aside from the illusion, she was wearing simple clothes, a cute white shirt and short shorts. She remembered fondly of the time when her favorite pony in the whole world had taught her this spell, and many others when she was younger.
‘Aunt Twily… I can’t wait to see you again.’ The mare thought as the train finally came to a stop at the station. She stood up and made her way to the exit along with the other passengers that had reached their destination.
It didn’t take long to get out of the station, and under the light of the moonlight, she began walking down the main street of the city, making her way to the castle. As she walked, she looked all around at the houses and businesses, all of them decorated with some sort of spooky paraphernalia, ready for one of the greatest holidays of the year, Nightmare Night.
As she continued walking, she saw a notice board with a few pamphlets on it, the biggest one of them was an open invitation to all the foals of the city to take part in a modest event in the castle. An event taking place today, the day before the actual Nightmare Night. In this event, the foals would listen to the story of this special holiday, and then would participate in a few scary, yet safe activities. This was actually a tradition that had been started many years ago by Princess Luna, but with the princess away with her sister traveling the world for a few years now, Twilight Sparkle was the one running the event now.
Flurry smiled, a memory of when she had been a foal, the few times she had spent the festivity with her aunt, following a long and detailed schedule to assure the best mix of scary and fun possible. It had been years since then, and while the event had been fun, she hadn’t cared much about the sugary treats, or dressing up as her favorite character of the moment. What made the day special was spending time with her aunty. It was back then that she had first realized how she really felt.
Flurry resumed her walk to the castle, and it didn’t take long to reach it. From the main entrance, Flurry followed some indications and walked down the hall to the west wing of the castle, where the event was taking place. She reached a large group of ponies, parents, waiting outside a large door that led to one of the biggest rooms in the castle. From inside, a lot of screams and laughs could be heard, quickly followed by multiple hoofsteps getting closer and closer.
“AAAAaaahhhh!” “Hahahaha!” The screams and laughs intensified as the doors burst open, a wave of foals quickly coming out, each one making a direct line towards their respective parents.
“You are safe for the moment,” a voice trying to sound ominous said from the room, and slowly from the shadows, the current ruler of Equestria walked out. She was wearing a long flowy dark blue dress. “But remember! Tomorrow is Nightmare Night! You all better wear your best costumes to hide from the Nightmare!” Twilight said, and with a gesture of her hand, a few castle employees came out from the dark room and handed each foal a bag containing a book with the story of Nightmare Night and a piece of candy. “Now, make sure you get home safely and rest! Tomorrow is a big day.”
The parents bowed and thanked the princess, leading their kids out as the small ponies happily talked about how much fun they had. Twilight smiled widely as she watched her little ponies walking away, her gaze quickly landing on a single pony that stood still opposite to where the alicorn stood.
Twilight’s eyes widened, she quickly turned to one of the staff members, giving some indications before walking back inside the dark room. The staff pony relayed the information to his colleagues, then walked up to Flurry Heart.
“The Princess is requesting your presence inside. Please, allow me to take your luggage to your temporary room while you talk to her,” he said, extending a hand to take Flurry’s bag, then gesturing to the open doors.
Flurry let out a sigh and chuckled, thanking the pony as she made her way inside. ‘There goes the surprise.’ The second the doors closed behind her, arms encircled her waist, lifted her off the floor and started spinning her around.
“Flurry! Oh my goodness, this is so great! It’s so good to see you!” Twilight said before lowering her niece back to the floor, but not letting her out of her arms.
Flurry laughed as she also embraced her aunt. “It’s so good to see you too!” She said affectionately, the hug lasting a few extra seconds until both of them finally let go. “How did you recognize me so fast? I did my best with this illusion spell.”
Twilight chuckled. “You certainly have improved a lot, but you just can’t fool me. Alicorn magic runs in a specific wavelength that is just slightly different to that of a unicorn, and there’s no way I wouldn’t recognize my niece’s magic.” She then used her own magic to turn on the light in the room, showing all the special decorations for the event.
Flurry gave a quick look around as she spoke. “Darn, I was sure I would be able to trick you for a bit before you found out. Oh well, you are the best magic user after all,” Flurry said, as she stopped her magic and let the illusion banish.
Twilight’s eyes darkened a little as she took her niece’s figure clearly, her gaze quickly running up and down. “You have grown so much… You have become such a beautiful mare.”
“Thanks, aunty Twily,” she answered with a bright smile, a small amount of pink filling her cheeks.
“So, are your mom and dad here too?” She said as she began walking towards the opposite side of the room, Flurry right next to her.
“Nah, they are still back home. They were really busy preparing for a special charity ball that will be held tomorrow. I really wanted to be here to spend Nightmare night with you, aunty. You know, like we used to. They were a bit skeptical of me traveling alone, and said I should bring at least one guard with me. I didn’t want to, so I used my secret weapon on them.”
“You pulled the ‘I’m an adult now, I can take perfect care of myself’ speech?”
“You know me so well,” both mares chuckled at that. Twilight then opened a different door to the one they had entered through, one that led to the main section of the castle.
“Your parents only suggested the guard more as a formality. They know you can take care of yourself. They have been sending me letters about how much you have improved with your magic, and…” She takes a quick side glance at her niece’s toned body. “All the training you have been doing with Shining. He says you could be amongst the Crystal empire top guards if you ever decided to join them. They are really proud of the mare you have become.”
“I know.” Flurry stated proudly. “I’m glad they let me come alone though. Dad just made me promise him that I wouldn’t cause trouble for you, and mom just wished me luck.”
Twilight stopped and tilted her head. “Luck? With what?”
Flurry looked down, trying to hide her blush. “Oh, uhm, just luck in general, you know… with the trip.”
“Oh, ok.” Twilight reached one hand towards her niece’s. “I’m ecstatic to have you here. How long are you staying?”
“A few days. Maybe a week. I wanted to spend some time with you, aunty.”
Twilight smiled warmly. “And I want to spend some time with you. But it’s a bit late, and you must be tired from the long trip. I already asked one of the staff to have ready a room for you, the one right next to mine. Why don’t you go and get yourself comfortable. We can talk more tomorrow and plan a big day.”
“Sure, that sounds great. What about you? Aren’t you going to bed yet?”
Twilight shook her head. “I still have a few things to take care of before I go to sleep. Hopefully it won’t take long.”
“Okay.” Flurry said, leaning forward to hug her aunt. Twilight happily returned the hug. “See you tomorrow then,” She said as she broke the hug.
“Sleep well, Flurry,” Twilight responded as she turned and resumed her walk to most likely the throne room.
Flurry easily navigated the castle, already familiar with the layout from many visits in the past. She found her and her aunt’s room in less than five minutes. She entered her room, noticing her bag on top of the bed. She was about to enter when a plan formed in her mind.
She hadn’t been able to surprise her aunt as she had wanted, with her seeing through her spell right away. The surprise had failed, so why not give her a little scare? Giddily, Flurry closed the door to her room and made her way to her aunts. The door wasn’t locked, so she carefully got inside. A quick look around showed that the room hadn’t changed much. “That’s a good place to hide,” Flurry mumbled as she hid in the closet, leaving it open a crack so she could see when her aunt came. She made sure not to use magic, as she was sure her aunt would detect it and ruin her plan, again.
A few minutes passed, but before Flurry could begin to feel bored, the door of the room opened and closed. Flurry peered through the tiny crack on the door.
Twilight let out a loud sigh, intertwining her fingers and lifting her arms up, she stood on the tip of her hooves as she stretched her whole body. “Today was such a great day,” she said, taking a few steps forward and letting her body flop on the bed.
Flurry controlled her need to laugh, reminding herself to wait for the perfect time to get out and scare her aunt. She saw her aunt getting off the bed, then walking around to the right side of it, right in front of the closet. Then, Flurry’s eyes widened.

She had also left some instructions about the schedule for tomorrow so things could go smoothly without needing her presence. She was planning on taking the day off.
After swapping the position of the sun and the moon, Twilight retired to her room. As she got closer, she noticed that Flurry’s door was open. The mare quickened her pace to reach the room faster. As she looked inside, she saw her niece rummaging through one of the shopping bags she had most likely gotten earlier that day.
“H-HeYy!” Twilight grimaced. Gosh, why was she so nervous? Flurry had turned to look at her, letting out a giggle. Twilight took a deep breath and continued as if nothing. “Flurry, how has your day been?”
“It was great. I actually went out to get some ideas for our date.” Flurry then looked down, and began fidgeting with her hands. “I… I’m not pressuring you into this, right? If you don’t want to go in a date with me–”
“I want to!” Twilight exclaimed, moving closer to the younger alicorn and taking her hands with her own. “I really want to go on this date with you, Flurry.”
Flurry smiled widely. “Great! Then we better start getting ready for it!” Flurry walked back to her shopping bags. “So, what are you going to dress up as for the night?”
“Obviously, I’ll dress up as the most important conjurer of the pre-classical–”
“No.”
“W-what?”
“No, aunty, you won’t go as Star Swirl the Bearded.”
“Why?”
“Aunty, please, this is our date. I don’t want to go with my grandpa, I want to go with my aunt.” Flurry then took one of the shopping bags and offered it to Twilight. “Here, I picked a costume for you.”
“Alright, but I’m not wearing anything too revealing,” Twilight said as she looked inside the bag.
“Don’t worry, I know you don’t like that kind of clothes. I actually knew that you were going to dress as Star Swirl, you always do. So, I got you something close to that, a mage adventurer, and I,” Flurry then lifted the other shopping bag, “will go as a warrior. We’ll be a duo of adventurers!”
Twilight lifted a brow, “Your dad finally convinced you to play Ogres & Oubliettes, didn’t he?”
Flurry vehemently shook her head. “Never! I chose your costume making sure it would be something close to your usual, sans the beard, obviously. Then I thought that it would be amazing for my costume to match yours.”
A shy smile popped on Twilight’s face. ‘Matching costumes…’ “You are right! Okay, I’ll go and get changed.”
“Sure, I’ll get ready too.”
Twilight went to her room, a spring in her step, and as soon as her door was closed, she removed her dress and stood in the middle of the room. She reached inside of the shopping bag, but stopped, taking a look down at her undergarments.
‘I should wear something more… sexy, right?’ She thought as she looked at her plain blue briefs and bra. The alicorn let out a sigh. ‘Getting a little ahead of myself. There was a knock from the door, followed by the muffled voice of her niece. “Aunty Twily, are you ready?”
“Yes!” Twilight said, walking out of the bathroom and grabbing the last part of her costume, the witch hat, before getting to the door. “I’m rea–”

The mention of magic finally brought Twilight out of her trance, happy to share her knowledge about it. “Actually, there is a variation on the spell that would, uhm well, here, let me cast it and you’ll see.” Twilight took her niece’s hand, and her horn began shining, its light intensified for two seconds, then it completely faded.
Flurry looked down at herself, then at her aunt, but nothing was different. “Uhm, did you cast the illusion?”
Twilight chuckled, and without letting go of Flurry’s hand, her horn began shining again, this time brighter than before. Flurry felt disoriented for a second, then realized that the older alicorn had teleported them to an empty alley close to the castle. Without letting the hand go, Twilight guided them out of the alley and into the buzzling and festive street. The first thing Flurry noticed was that not a single pony seemed to be interested in the two alicorn princesses.
“Hmm, is this an illusion spell that doesn’t affect us but works on every other pony?”
“Exactly,” Twilight said just loud enough so only Flurry would hear her. “To all of them we will look like an unicorn and a pegasus.” She lightly squeezed Flurry’s hand, and feeling bold, added. “This way I can enjoy your beauty the whole night.”
Flurry grinned, a blush on her cheeks. “Awesome. With that taken care of, let’s get going! I have the whole night planned!” Flurry led them down the street, several ponies in costumes that were enjoying the night walking around them, not a single one paying them the level of attention a princess usually got.
“So… what’s the plan for the night,” Twilight asked, a smile on her face, as she watched a young filly in a Princess Twilight costume, happily chatting with her parents, walk past them.
“I wanted to keep things simple. The idea is to first go eat something, then go to a nice club that is having a “Nightmare Night Night” to dance a little, then go on a walk under the moon. And after that…” Flurry looked back at Twilight, giving her a meaningful look that made Twilight’s heart rate accelerate.
“T-that sounds good. Sooo… a fancy dinner first?”
“Ha! Far from it!” The young alicorn said, as she turned left, reaching an opened area with several food stalls.
“Street food?” Twilight asked as she looked at all the other ponies eating around there.
“How long has it been since you ate something that wasn’t cooked by the royal chef? I wanted us to try something different for today, and I have to say,” Flurry sniffed the air, humming contentedly. “It does smell delicious around here. So, this afternoon, I asked around for the best place that no noble pony would risk being seen eating at, and a lot of ponies recommended this place. Told me that I had to try the tacos. Apparently, only during Nightmare Night, the owner of the stall uses a special sauce that is, and I quote “Terrifyingly exquisite”.”
“Sounds interesting, I’m in.” Twilight said, and both of them moved to the stall selling tacos.
There were a few ponies ahead of them, but it didn’t take long for their turn to order. The cook was wearing a spider costume, with the fake arms doubling as tool and spice holders, and honestly, those arms might not have been fake with how fast he prepared things. The princesses, each now with a taco in one hand and a drink in the other, moved to some empty chairs nearby.
After the first bite, neither mare could help but moan in delight. “Oh my, this is soooo good!” Twilight said, a hand over her mouth as she spoke. Flurry nodded vigorously before taking another bite. It took no time for them to finish their meal. “This was such a good pick! It’s been years since I ate something like this.”
“I know! I actually would love to order one more of those, but…” Flurry trailed off as she looked back at the stall, an incredible long queue had quickly formed after they had gotten their food. Flurry then looked back at Twilight, a cocky grin popping up. “Well, at least you saved me some.”
Twilight tilted her head. “Huh? What do you mean?”
“There’s a bit of sauce on… let me…” In a flash, Flurry grabbed Twilight’s chin, leaned forward and licked the older mare’s cheek, then a second, slower lick ran over the corner of Twilight’s mouth. Flurry moved back slightly, still close enough to feel Twilight’s breath hit her.
Both their faces were red, with Twilight’s wide eyes moving from looking into Flurry’s, down to her lips, then up again. Twilight was the one who leaned forward this time, locking their lips together. An explosion of emotions and pleasure flooded their minds, their lips dancing against each other.
As Twilight was about to add some tongue to the action, she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders, gently pushing her back. She whined, attempting to meet those delicious lips she had been enjoying, but the hands holding her wouldn’t let her.
“Aunty… please… wait… I want more too… but…” Flurry started as she tried to catch her breath. “I… I don’t feel like giving a show to half of Canterlot.” She said as she gestured with her head towards the stall.
Twilight, still half dazed from the short making out session, turned around, and saw how every single pony around them had been looking at the pair. All the spectators quickly turned to look in any other possible direction.
For a split second, Twilight felt dread, but then remembered the spell she had used, and considering none of the onlookers seemed scandalized, it was still working perfectly. The dread quickly morphed into simple embarrassment, and Twilight attempted a good imitation of Fluttershy, hiding her face behind her witch hat..
“Come on, let's get out of here.”
“R-right.”
Flurry took Twilight’s hand, and began to drag her away from that place.
Aunt and niece walked happily, shoulder against shoulder, commenting about all the different and cute costumes they saw on their way.
They heard someone screaming, and saw a little colt in a mummy costume running past them. They looked in the direction the colt had come from and saw a group of three teenagers wearing monster masks, taking what seemed like a bag filled with candy from the floor, before running away.
Flurry and Twilight looked at each other, nodded, and went after the fleeing teenagers. They chased them, without being seen, to an empty alley. Twilight and Flurry took to the sky with the help of their wings, and listened quietly from the roof as the teenagers cackled.
“Hahaha, did you see how fast he ran? That was hilarious.” A female unicorn said as she leaned against the wall.
“Good thing he dropped his bag! That kid had quite the haul!” Said a male earth pony as he rummaged through their loot.
“Haha! Nothing better than pranking and scaring dumb kids in Nightmare Night!” Said the last member of the group, a female earth pony.
Twilight frowned, clearly displeased with what she was hearing. “How cruel! Flurry, excuse me a moment. I need to go down there and properly lecture those three about their actions.” Before Twilight could move, she felt a hand holding her in place.
“Wait, aunty, I have a better idea.” Flurry said with a mischievous smirk that Twilight found incredibly sexy. “They seem to enjoy the tradition of scaring ponies during Nightmare Night. I’m sure they will appreciate being able to experience this tradition from the other side.”
Twilight mirrored Flurry’s smirk.
The three teenagers removed their masks so they could eat the candy, and that’s when the whole alley was engulfed in complete darkness.

Thunder was heard as a lightning bolt hit the alley, illuminating the alley long enough for the teenagers to see the black coated alicorn at the entrance of the alley.
“Nightmare Moon!” The three screamed in unison.
All three quickly turned around and attempted to run in the opposite direction, but found it impossible to advance even an inch.
“What is going on?!” The colt shouted, looking down at his hooves. He saw dark tendrils emerging from the walls of the alley and wrapping around their hooves.
“Thou aren’t getting away from us.” Nightmare moon said, slowly getting closer.
The unicorn attempted to use her magic to grab any object she could from the alley and threw it at the Nightmare. The objects bounced away when they collided with a dark spell shield.
Nightmare Moon cackled. “We love it when our meal resists. Makes it taste so much better.” She said, her tongue running over her sharp teeth.
“The candy! Give her the candy!” The female earth pony shouted.
The male of the group didn’t question it, remembering the legend of the Nightmare.
“H-here!” He threw the bag towards the dark alicorn, who grabbed it in her magic. “We give y-you all the candy we have! So please! Let us g-go!”
The Nightmare remained thoughtful for a second, took a look at the bag and nodded. “We agree to the deal.”
A lightning bolt struck the space between the group of three and the Nightmare, causing the teenagers to close their eyes. After a few seconds, they opened them again. The darkness had banished, along with Nightmare Moon.
Now free from the grapes of the dark tendrils, the three teenagers screamed and ran out of the alley.
Above on the roof, Nightmare Moon landed right next to Twilight Sparkle.
“Hahaha, That went well!” Her horn shone brightly, and her appearance changed back to one of a pegasus in warrior armor. “Nice help with the special effects.”
Twilight giggled. “I have to admit, not the way I would have preferred to solve this, but it was a lot of fun scaring them.”
“Good to see you enjoyed it as much as me. We should get going and find the little kid so we can return this,” Flurry said, holding up the bag with candy.
“It won’t take us long to find him with this,” Twilight said, casting a spell on the bag. A wisp of light emerged from the bag and led them in the direction of the rightful owner of the bag. They quickly found the kid, quietly sniffling on a bench at the park.
“Hey kid, I believe this is yours,” Flurry said, dropping the bag on the bench next to the colt.
The colt jumped in surprise, not having noticed the presence of the two mares until one had talked. He looked at both of them, the at his candy bag, his eyes widening in joy.
“My candy!” He looked at the older ponies. “How did you get it?”
“These adventurers have their ways of dealing with injustice!” Flurry exclaimed, grabbing Twilight by the waist and pulling her close.
“Thank you so much, ma’ams.”
“It was nothing. Now, you better run back home to your parents. I believe you have recollected enough candy for the night,” Twilight said kindly.
The colt nodded. “Thank you a lot!”
After watching him disappear down the street while jumping in joy, they quietly walked away to continue their date, laughing as they animatedly talked about their little prank.
“It wasn’t part of the date, but it was a fun activity. Let us get into the spirit of the night.”
Twilight nodded in agreement.
“Okay, here we are!” Flurry said as they stopped in front of the night club Flurry had mentioned earlier.
Next to the entrance, hung a message indicating a special rule for the night: ‘Best place in the city to hide from Nightmare Moon and DOUBLE your fun! If you have no costume, then you get NO entrance! No underage ponies allowed.’
“So, anything special about this club?” The older one asked as she looked at the big building. The exterior was decorated for the holiday, with a lot of cobwebs, bats, spiders and other things.
Flurry shook her head. “Not really. I was actually surprised at how many good places to dance there are here.” Flurry then shrugged. “I just chose this place because I heard that the DJ for the night is a fan of a singer I like, so hopefully he’ll play some of that music.”
“Oh! Do I know the singer?”
Flurry grinned. “Maybe, you’ll have to wait and see if any of the songs are familiar to you. Come on, let’s go inside.” The two walked to the entrance, greeted the bouncer, a tall pegasus in a sunflower costume, and went inside.
The blast of music was instantaneous, a catchy pop song currently playing. The inside was large, a big open area in the middle for dancing, with lights and speakers hanging from the ceiling. All the way to the back was the stage with the music equipment and the DJ. To the right was the bar, a large display of liquors against the wall, and three bartenders already taking orders. Booths filled all the other available space in the club. The club was about half capacity at the moment, with ponies already dancing and drinking.
“Wow, this place is crazy!” Flurry exclaimed, already enjoying the jovial and carefree vibe of the place.
“I know, they covered the evacuation signs with the decorations!” Twilight said, alarmed.
Flurry turned and looked with a deadpan expression at her aunt. “Really?”
“Hey! The safety of ponies is something to always take seriously!” Twilight answered earnestly.
Flurry’s ears flopped. “You are right, sorry. It’s just… Can you ignore it for tonight? Pretty please?”
Twilight looked at Flurry, then around the place, and finally let out a sigh. “Alright, but I’ll make a mental note to write a very stern letter tomorrow about safety issues.”
“Yes, sure, you do that, tomorrow. Tonight…” Flurry took Twilight’s hand and guided her to the bar. “Let’s just relax and continue enjoying our date. What do you say? We start with a drink, then we hit the dance floor?” Twilight nodded.
They found two empty bar stools and sat. One of the bartenders, an earth pony mare in a bee costume, approached them.
“Hey, sweeties, we have a special menu for the night. When you are ready to order, just lift a hand to get my, or one of my coworkers' attention.” She said, leaving the menu in front of them, then moving to attend another customer.
“Oh wow, look at these drinks!” Flurry said excitedly. “All of them look so good. What will you order, aunty?” Flurry asked just loud enough for Twilight to hear.
“Hmmm, this Boo Beverage looks interesting.”
“All of them do. I’m so glad I’m old enough to try some of these. I have already decided on my drink, you?”
“Yup.”
“Good,” Flurry lifted a hand, a few seconds later, the same bartender from earlier got closer.
“Ready to order?”
“Yeah, we’ll have a Black Cat, and…”
“A Boo Beverage,” Twilight added.
“Whiskey or Rum?”
“Whiskey please.”
“Okay, I’ll have them ready in a minute,” the bartender said, moving away to gather all the ingredients.
It didn’t take long for their drinks to be ready, and both mares enjoyed their drinks, making light talk while moving their shoulders to the rhythm of the songs. It was after Spooky Scary Skeletons finished that they heard a familiar song.
“Oh my!” Twilight said animatedly, a hand on Flurry’s arm, a big grin on face. “Is this the singer you were talking about earlier?”
Flurry smiled. “I knew you would recognize her.”
“Of course I would recognize Sweetie Belle’s song!” Twilight then gulped what remained of her drink and stood. “Come on, we HAVE to dance to this song, it’s so good!”
Flurry barely had time to finish her own drink before being dragged to the dance floor. They found a wide enough area among the ponies already there and began to sway their bodies along the rhythm of the song. So I wanted to participate in the contest, and wanted to make a Flurry x Twilight story, but had no idea of what to actually write for the story.
