Button’s mouth opened, but no words came out, his mind blank with panic and crushing guilt. He took a step forward, reaching out a hoof, desperate to bridge the impossible distance between them, but Sweetie Belle turned on her heels and bolted, her sobs echoing through the empty streets of Ponyville as she fled into the night.
And Button could only stand there, frozen in place, staring at the empty doorway with his heart shattered into pieces, knowing he’d just lost the one pony who mattered most to him - and that he had no one to blame but himself.

He turned away without another word, his hooves carrying him out of the boutique on legs that trembled with the weight of his shame. But it couldn’t touch the icy ache that had settled deep in his chest, couldn’t dull the knowledge that he’d thrown away everything he’d cared about for nothing but a fleeting, hollow touch.
He kept walking, his steps uneven, his breath coming in ragged bursts as he tried to hold back the tears that blurred his vision. He’d lost everything that mattered, and all that was left was the empty echo of Rarity’s mocking laugh in his ears, following him out into the cold, unfeeling night.

Sweetie Belle sat slumped over a table at Sugarcube Corner, a half-melted tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream in front of her, spoon moving mechanically between the carton and her mouth. Her mane was a mess, her eyes puffy and red from crying, but she didn’t care who saw her right now. All she wanted was to drown herself in the sugar rush and the cold numbness it offered, even if just for a little while.
She barely noticed when Pinkie Pie bounced over to her, a concerned frown tugging at her usually cheerful face. Pinkie settled down in the chair across from Sweetie, resting her elbows on the table as she leaned forward. “Hey, Sweetie Belle, what’s got you so down in the dumps? Did somepony eat your favorite dessert before you could get to it?” Pinkie’s voice was bright, but there was a serious undercurrent in her tone as she eyed the state of Sweetie’s tear-stained face.
Sweetie Belle sniffled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hoof, the ice cream doing little to numb the ache in her chest. “…After a fashion, maybe. It’s... It’s Button Mash. And Rarity.”
Her voice cracked, and she took a deep breath, the words tumbling out of her in a rush, barely coherent but too heavy to hold in any longer. She told Pinkie everything - how she’d finished her errands early, how she’d walked into the boutique to find Button with Rarity, how she’d thought it was a terrible mistake until she caught them again, and how it felt like her whole world had been yanked out from under her hooves.
Pinkie Pie listened in a way that Sweetie hadn’t expected, her usual smile replaced with a worried, empathetic frown. She didn’t interrupt or try to change the subject; she just let Sweetie pour out her hurt, her frustration, all the anger that had twisted inside her chest since she’d run from the boutique.
When Sweetie finally fell silent, her spoon hovering over the ice cream but no longer moving, Pinkie let out a long, sad sigh, her mane seeming to deflate just a little at the edges. “Oh, Sweetie Belle, that’s... that’s awful. I can’t believe Button would do that to you, especially after you two seemed so happy together. And with Rarity of all ponies...” Pinkie shook her head, her eyes wide with sympathy.

Sweetie Belle bit her lip, her chest clenching as she thought about it again. She’d always looked up to Rarity, admired her elegance, her grace. She sniffled again, shoving another spoonful of ice cream into her mouth, but this time it didn’t make her feel any better. “Yeah... I don’t know, maybe I could...” She hesitated, chewing on her bottom lip before her eyes hardened with a flicker of defiance. “Maybe I could go... you know, be with some colt or stallion. Somepony who would make sure Button heard about it - someone who’d brag, rub it in his face. Maybe then he’d understand how it feels.”
Pinkie’s ears twitched, and her eyes went wide for a moment, clearly caught off guard by the bluntness of Sweetie Belle’s idea. She quickly masked her surprise, though, giving Sweetie a small, tentative smile. “That’s... definitely one way to get revenge,” she replied, her voice uncertain but still supportive, trying to feel out how serious Sweetie really was. “But, are you sure that’s what you really want, Sweetie? I mean, I get wanting to make him feel bad - he hurt you, after all - but do you think that’ll really make you feel better?”
Sweetie’s jaw clenched, her grip tightening around the spoon until her hoof shook. “I don’t know, Pinkie. I just... I don’t want to feel like this anymore. Like I was the only one who cared, and like he got away with everything. If I can make him feel even a fraction of what I felt when I walked in on him with her...” She trailed off, her shoulders slumping as she struggled to hold back fresh tears.
Sweetie Belle stared into the melting ice cream, her thoughts spiraling deeper into the pain and doubt that gnawed at her. Her voice was small, uncertain, when she finally spoke up, barely more than a whisper. “Do you think... maybe this was my fault, Pinkie? Like, maybe if I’d been, I don’t know, more willing ... If I had just lifted my tail sooner, given him what he wanted, maybe he wouldn’t have been tempted by Rarity. Maybe he wouldn’t have... done that.”
Her words hung in the air between them, heavy and raw, and for a moment, Sweetie couldn’t bring herself to look at Pinkie, afraid of what she might see in her eyes. But then Pinkie reached across the table, gently resting a hoof over Sweetie’s, her expression soft but serious as she caught Sweetie’s gaze.
“Absolutely not, Sweetie Belle. This is not your fault,” Pinkie said firmly, her voice filled with a conviction that made Sweetie blink in surprise. “You have every right to go at your own pace and not do anything you weren’t ready for. That’s not something you should blame yourself for, ever. Relationships aren’t supposed to be about rushing into things just to keep somepony around.”
Sweetie Belle looked down at Pinkie’s hoof, the warmth of the touch grounding her, but the doubt still lingered in her eyes. “But... what if he got tired of waiting? What if he went to Rarity because I wasn’t giving him enough?”
Pinkie shook her head, her expression growing more thoughtful as she considered the situation. “Sweetie, from what you told me, Button is just as inexperienced as you are. He probably doesn’t know any better than you do about how to handle those kinds of feelings. It’s like... you’re both stumbling around in the dark trying to figure it out.”
She paused, her gaze turning serious, almost contemplative, as she continued. “But Rarity? She knew what she was doing. She’s the one who has more experience, and she’s the one who chose to... take advantage of how unsure and confused Button was feeling. That’s on her more than it’s on you. She should’ve known better than to try and lure in somepony else’s coltfriend.”
Sweetie Belle’s shoulders sagged as she listened, a deep breath shuddering out of her. The words felt like a small comfort, even if they didn’t fully take away the ache inside her. She bit her lip, staring at the half-melted mess of ice cream as she tried to process everything Pinkie was saying. It didn’t fix what had happened, but it did make her feel a little less like it was her own shortcomings that had driven Button away.
“Thanks, Pinkie,” she whispered, her voice barely holding together. “I don’t know what I’m gonna do... but it helps to know that maybe it wasn’t all my fault.”
Pinkie Pie nodded slowly, her eyes still holding that thoughtful, sympathetic gleam as she squeezed Sweetie Belle's hoof. “You know, Sweetie, I think you might be trying to punish the wrong pony here,” she said gently, her voice taking on a careful tone, as though she was picking each word with precision. “I get why you’re so angry at Button. He’s the one who broke your trust, and I know how much that hurts. But... it sounds like he wasn’t the one leading things. Not really.”
Sweetie Belle looked up at her, frowning a little in confusion. “What do you mean?” she asked, her voice thick with the lingering hurt. “He’s the one who went along with it. He’s the one who... with her ...”
Pinkie’s expression softened further, and she tilted her head, her mane bobbing slightly as she continued. “I just mean... it seems like Rarity knew exactly what she was doing. She’s the one who should have known better, who should have respected you and your relationship with Button. Maybe she’s the one who deserves some of that anger.” Pinkie sighed, glancing off toward the door for a moment before turning back to Sweetie with a sad smile. “But I know... it’s probably a lot harder to think about punishing her, isn’t it?”
Sweetie Belle’s ears drooped, her chest tightening at the thought. Pinkie’s words struck a chord she hadn’t wanted to acknowledge. It was one thing to be furious at Button - he’d been her coltfriend, the one she trusted, the one who’d hurt her by turning to somepony else. But Rarity? Rarity was her sister. The betrayal cut so much deeper, and thinking about it made the hurt twist into something sharp and bitter inside her.
“Yeah,” Sweetie mumbled, her voice barely audible. “She’s supposed to be my big sister. She’s supposed to care about me, not... not do something like this.”

But whatever happens, just remember, none of this is your fault, okay? You didn’t deserve what happened. Neither of them had the right to do this to you.”
Sweetie leaned into the hug, feeling the warmth and reassurance in Pinkie’s embrace, and for a moment, she let herself cry into her friend’s shoulder, the emotions spilling out in choked sobs.
As Sweetie Belle’s sobs filled the quiet space of Sugarcube Corner, something inside Pinkie Pie seemed to shift. The morning sun had barely risen over Ponyville when Pinkie Pie sprang into action, her mind racing with plans and preparations. But this time, it wasn’t for a birthday celebration or a welcome party. No, today she had something much more specific in mind - a party with a very different purpose. A revenge party.
She moved through Sugarcube Corner with her usual energy, but there was a new, sharper focus in her steps as she gathered supplies: streamers, balloons, music, but also things she usually didn’t need to worry about. Like the special guest list she was putting together, each name chosen carefully and deliberately. This wasn’t going to be just any gathering, after all. It was for Sweetie Belle, and it was about making a statement that neither Button Mash nor Rarity would forget anytime soon.
Sitting at the counter with a stack of blank invitation cards, Pinkie tapped a quill against her chin, thinking through her options. She needed ponies who were willing to indulge in some fun and weren’t already tied down by commitments - those who might enjoy the attention and would be very willing to brag afterward. With a decisive nod, she wrote out the names of five colts and stallions who fit the bill: Thunderlane, a charismatic pegasus known for his flirtatious charm; Caramel, who always had an eye for an interesting opportunity; and three others who she knew had just enough of a reputation for enjoying a good time to suit Sweetie’s plan.
Pinkie folded each invitation carefully, sealing them with a small puff of confetti, and made sure to include a personal note to each one, hinting at the kind of "exclusive" event this was going to be. She knew how to make an invitation sound intriguing without giving away too much. They wouldn’t be able to resist showing up, curiosity driving them as much as anything else.
But the guest list was only part of the plan. Pinkie knew she had to secure the main entertainment; the part of the party that would make it truly unforgettable. Her mind worked through the details as she stashed the invitations into her saddlebag and headed out the door, the bell over the entrance jingling behind her.

Pinkie moved through the streets of Ponyville with purpose, dropping off invitations and making quiet arrangements for the party, her mind humming with the details of what was coming together. It was a different kind of event than she’d ever put together before, but as she thought of Sweetie Belle’s tear-stained face and her whispered plea for help, she steeled herself. Rarity struggled against the gag, her muffled protests growing more frantic, but Sweetie just shook her head, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. “No, Rarity, you don’t get to talk right now. You had plenty to say when you were stealing my coltfriend, didn’t you?” She turned to Button, her voice wavering for the first time, but the anger didn’t fade. “And you... you couldn’t even wait, couldn’t even try to explain yourself before going back to her again.”
Button’s ears flattened further, a choked sound escaping him, but he couldn’t meet her eyes. Sweetie’s expression hardened as she took another step closer, her voice dropping to a near whisper, filled with the pain that had been building inside her since that awful moment in the boutique. “I thought I meant something to you, Button. I thought... maybe we had something special. But I guess I was just fooling myself, wasn’t I?”
Pinkie watched from the shadows, her expression unreadable, but her presence was a reminder that this wasn’t a space for comforting words or apologies. It was Sweetie’s space, her moment of reckoning, and soon, it would be time for the rest of her plan to unfold.
Sweetie Belle let out a shaky breath, stepping back just enough to look at both of them fully. “Well, you’ll both have plenty of time to think about it now. And maybe, by the end of tonight, you’ll understand just how much you’ve both taken from me.” Her voice hardened again as she added, “And how much I’m willing to take back.”
Rarity’s eyes widened, and Button’s face paled as they both realized that whatever Sweetie had in mind, it was only just beginning.
The door to the back room creaked open, and one by one, five stallions stepped inside, each a familiar face in Ponyville. They had all received Pinkie’s strange, intriguing invitation earlier in the day, and now they gathered, curiosity lighting up their faces as they tried to figure out what this unusual gathering was all about.
First came Thunderlane, the sleek, dark-coated pegasus whose confident grin widened as he took in the scene - the dim lights, the heavy curtains, and the bound figures of Rarity and Button Mash.
Right behind him followed Caramel, the tan earth pony known for his laid-back attitude and roguish charm. He gave Pinkie a curious look, his smile turning curious as he glanced around.
Next was Dr. Hooves, the scientifically-minded earth pony whose curiosity often led him to peculiar situations. He adjusted his bowtie, raising an eyebrow as he noticed the nervous tension in the room.
After him came Davenport, the pony who ran the local sofa and quill shop, always up for something interesting to break up the monotony of his daily routine. He cast a wary glance around, clearly intrigued despite himself.

In moment of post-nut clarity… he knew what he had to do… his only real choice if he wanted to escape the pain of the last 36 hours.
Leaning down, he pressed his mouth close to her ear, his voice a harsh whisper filled with bitterness. “I’d rather be alone than marry the mare that cost me everything. I can only pray you’re not pregnant after tonight’s fun…” He pulled away sharply, leaving her there on the bed, her body still trembling from the force of it all.
Button turned away from the bed without looking back, his chest tight with the weight of the choice he had made, his hooves carrying him out of the Boutique and into the cold night air, ring of the door’s bell sounding hollow as he left Rarity behind in the shadows of her own sorrow.
